00:00The government has turned to the Court of Appeal to set aside a High Court order, compelling
00:06it to expedite adjustments to the pensions of former civil servants in accordance with
00:11a previous court ruling.
00:13Lawyer Shukor Ahmad said the government's notice of appeal was filed at the High Court
00:18Registry yesterday.
00:20On January 16, Justice Amarjit Singh said a service circular issued in 2016 had the
00:26effect of a salary revision for government servants.
00:30Amarjit said that as a result, government pensioners were entitled under the Pensions
00:34Adjustment Act 1980 to pensions corresponding to the adjusted salary.
00:40He ordered the Director-General of the Public Services Department to pay back dated pensions
00:45from January 2022 and refused an oral stay application by Federal Counsel M. Kogilambigai.
00:52Shukor said the government had yet to file a formal stay application, but he believed
00:57the application would follow suit as they filed a notice of appeal.
01:02On February 29, 2024, the High Court granted former civil servant Aminah Ahmad and her
01:07co-applicants leave to commence judicial review proceedings after the Attorney-General raised
01:13no objection.
