00:09PepsiCo announced it's slashing the prices on the snack brands that it owns.
00:14Think Lay's potato chips, Doritos, Cheetos, the elite classics, if you will.
00:20PepsiCo brass say that they've listened to consumers who bemoan the strain of rising prices,
00:24and so they've opted to lower the suggested retail prices by as much as 15% to reduce the pressure.
00:30The company told the Wall Street Journal emails and voicemails have been pouring in
00:34from cash-strapped Americans complaining about prices, and they have a point.
00:39The financial firm Jeffries analyzed the cost of snackaroonies and found that across the board,
00:45salty snacks cost 38% more in June of 2024 compared to June of 2023.
00:51Another key data point here, the Consumer Price Index, it found food prices in general are 3.1%
00:57higher in December of 2025 compared to the same month in 2024.
01:02The fly in the ointment here, though, are retailers.
01:05The stores ultimately set the price of a given item, but PepsiCo hopes that by suggesting lower
01:11prices, your grocery bill will also be lower.
