00:00Our first honoree has touched the carpet.
00:02The beautiful, the incomparable, the lady in purple.
00:06Yes.
00:07Shantae Adams is here, y'all.
00:09It's now.
00:09Yep, this is your time.
00:10Runway, runway.
00:10Look at her.
00:11Yes, yes.
00:12Okay, who are you wearing?
00:13Sergio Hudson.
00:15Black designer.
00:16Period.
00:17Black designer for black women in Hollywood.
00:19That's right.
00:19You look fabulous.
00:21Thank you so much.
00:22Stunning.
00:22How does it feel to be honored at black women in Hollywood this year?
00:26Oh, my gosh.
00:28So amazing.
00:28This is my favorite event of the year, and any space that allows black women to come
00:33together and just commune and be ourselves, our full, authentic selves, is always so special.
00:39So I'm just, I'm honored to be honored.
00:41Wow.
00:42Well, look, you've been doing it in the films, okay?
00:44Yes, yes.
00:45So if there was an inspiring actress, what words of advice would you give them?
00:51I would give them two things.
00:53I would say, first, take care of yourself.
00:55This industry is very demanding and can put a lot on us.
00:59Be sure to step out of it and give your body and your mind what it needs.
01:03And second, don't let no bring you down because you're going to experience that a lot as well.
01:08We are resilient people.
01:10And if this is what you love to do, you will do it.
01:13That is on period.
01:15We were having this conversation.
01:17We were.
01:17We were having this conversation about the roles that we would love to see black women get the opportunity to portray.
01:22Is there anything that you're like, I wish they would let a black woman do this role?
01:26Is there a dream role?
01:26Oh, right now, you know, there's no dream role.
01:29Right now, I'm just focused on just taking up the spaces where we don't see ourselves in.
01:33It doesn't matter what it is.
01:35Like, I'm ready to break down doors and bust through windows.
01:37Like, let's just get in there, you know?
01:39And you've been in so many incredible films back to back to back to back to back.
01:43She's booked and busy.
01:44Yeah.
01:45And I know that you said take care of yourself.
01:46So how do you take care of yourself in between being that booked and that busy?
01:49Yeah, it's so important to step away from technology, y'all, and the internet, and just turning your phone off for a while.
01:55And also, my relationship to God and the Spirit is so important to me.
01:59So just taking the time to be one with myself and, you know, just to shut the world out, even if it's just for a couple hours.
02:05Like, that's just really important.
02:07And you're being honored with one of your former on-screen mothers.
02:10Yes!
02:11Nia Long.
02:12What is it like to be honored alongside her?
02:15It's a very full-circle moment.
02:17Yeah.
02:17That's what I'll say.
02:18I mean, just to be honored, period, is so incredible.
02:21But to do it and to be honored alongside her, alongside someone that's my big sister and my mentor, it's just such an amazing feeling.
02:29And I think I'm more excited for her than myself.
02:31Well, from what I hear, she feels the feeling is very mutual, and she is just as excited for you.
02:36Thank you so much.
02:38We'll see you inside.
02:38You look magical.
02:43Congratulations.
02:44Congratulations.
02:45We wish you so much more.
