00:00You watch your step.
00:01Okay.
00:02Oh, you look wonderful.
00:04I mean, you guys, I love this, all the palette.
00:08Well, thank you.
00:08We have a little orange moment.
00:09We did not plan this either.
00:10Really?
00:11We didn't.
00:11Just sleeves and orange were on the menu.
00:13It looks very much like a Vogue shoot or like an Essence shoot.
00:16Do you know what I mean?
00:17Oh, so much.
00:18Yeah, it's styles.
00:19Well, tell us what you're wearing.
00:21This is a little Dolce & Gabbana.
00:22Okay, that's a casualty casualty casualty.
00:25But I do want to say I appreciate them because they make larger sizes.
00:29For those of us who've got a little bit more to offer, that's what I like to say.
00:32I have more to offer.
00:33Great, and we love it.
00:34We'll take it.
00:35And speaking of inclusivity, in Hollywood specifically, what has it been like to see it evolve black
00:42women in the roles and the stories and everything in Hollywood?
00:45Well, I feel like we've been doing a great job of pushing because as we see right now,
00:50even with the Supreme Court hearings, it's like the resistance is real.
00:54The deep resistance is real.
00:56The real rageful resistance to our rise is real.
01:02And so we have made strides.
01:04But what I do feel is that we need more people to be in green lighting positions in Hollywood.
01:10Because we're still working on the basics of proving to white men that our voices are important
01:17enough to generate dollars.
01:19And then they're going, I don't like this, but okay.
01:22That's what's happening.
01:23What's happening is I don't understand it, but okay.
01:25Yep.
01:26Because I think I'll make money on it.
01:27But I don't want to have to do that.
01:29I want to be able to say to another woman of color, hey, this is the story I want to tell
01:33and have her go, I resonate with that.
01:35Yes, let's do it.
01:36Yes.
01:37And so that shift hasn't happened yet.
01:38We're still in the place where we're trying to prove ourselves in order to get the yes.
01:43Definitely.
01:44And so I have a question.
01:45What is one of your favorite things about being a black woman behind the camera?
01:49Oh my God.
01:50Giving people jobs, girl.
01:51Okay.
01:52Giving people jobs.
01:53You have to employ us.
01:54To be able to hire women, people of color, LGBT folk, that is like the most important thing.
02:00For so long, I was like the one.
02:02Yep.
02:03And a lot of times people would hire me because I was a woman and black.
02:05So they got to check off two things with one body.
02:07Yep.
02:08So to be able to say, okay, actually, this is going to be our playground behind the scenes.
02:13Because they're not as reluctant to cast us on camera anymore as the fourth or fifth person on the call sheet.
02:18Let's keep it all the way real.
02:21But it's behind the scenes allowing us to write and to direct.
02:26I was at an award show, I won't say which, but there was a TV category and all of the nominees were white, straight men, except one.
02:36And I was like...
02:38Not quite.
02:39Not sitting right.
02:40No.
02:41And it's behind the scenes.
02:42Yeah.
02:43And it's like, is this still okay with y'all?
02:44Yep.
02:45Y'all is good.
02:46Yep.
02:47With this.
02:48Yep.
02:49Because I'm not.
02:50Do you know what I mean?
02:51So I just, yeah, we still have a fight.
02:52And piggybacking off of what she said about being behind the scenes.
02:54Yeah.
02:55The four women that are being honored today that are in front of the camera.
02:58Yeah.
02:59Anjanoo, Nia, Shantae, and Quinta.
03:01What is it like to see those four being celebrated?
03:03I mean, first of all, Anjanoo, I'm like such a huge fan of hers.
03:06I've been sweating her for years.
03:08In fact, we were in a, we worked together when I was like a little teeny, like little teeny writer.
03:12Like I love her so much.
03:14Um, Nia, I mean, amazing.
03:16Of course.
03:17I'm so excited about Quinta specifically because she is a content creator.
03:21Yeah.
03:22She is a writer.
03:23And so many times we don't get to play the part that we create.
03:27You know, six or seven years ago, Quinta brings that same script.
03:30Yeah.
03:31And then they're like, hmm, is there a tall, skinny, light-skinned girl that we could put
03:35in this part?
03:36Right?
03:37Because that's what it is.
03:38Wow.
03:39The girl in the way you make me feel video.
03:41Do you know what I'm saying?
03:42Wow, that's really fast.
03:43So what's great now is that Quinta creates that part and she gets to play that part.
03:47Yes, yes, yes.
03:48And that is like hallelujah all the way across.
03:50And she rocks it.
03:51Hallelujah.
03:52Amen and amen.
03:53Amen and amen.
03:54You brought us there.
03:55We're here.
03:56And I know that we'll be taking to church a few more times today.
03:58Yes.
03:59Thank you so much.
04:00We will see you inside for the magic.
04:01Yes.
04:02Have fun.
04:03Enjoy yourself.
04:04Bye.
04:05Bye.
04:06Bye.
04:07Bye.
