00:38You know, my little extra flawless face for the Essence Fest.
00:42Yeah!
00:43You like this? I got a smoky eye.
00:45Ah!
00:46Anyway, it is an honor to be your host tonight.
00:49You know, I've always wanted to host a talk show,
00:51so Estee Lauder was like, we got you, boo.
00:53And I was like, I got you, too.
00:54And we have such an amazing show tonight.
00:57Let me tell you right now, we're going to chat about skin care.
01:00Because we got to be popping.
01:01We about to go right out.
01:02Outside is about to open up.
01:04Okay?
01:05You vax and wax all of the things.
01:06You got your baby curl, S curl, whatever have you laid.
01:10Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.
01:11You about to be on the popping.
01:12So you got to make sure your skin is on the popping, too.
01:14So we're going to be talking to experts like Dr. Caroline Robinson.
01:20We're going to talk to Maya Martin and Alex Hill.
01:23We might even tell you why chocolate is actually good for your face.
01:26Yeah, just lather it all up.
01:27Just a little dark chocolate.
01:28It ain't never hurt nobody.
01:30All right.
01:31And then, to close out the night, y'all, we got a special musical performance by the one, the only, the Grammy Award-winning Miss India Irie.
01:42Now, I know that we're doing this through a screen, and like I said, we all, we all ready to be done with the video conferencing.
01:50So I know you guys are ready to get your, like, nighttime routine ready so you can be glowing in the daytime.
01:57See, I got my advanced night repair on lock.
02:00Okay?
02:01Let me tell you right now.
02:02I got my own filter.
02:03Glow?
02:04Check.
02:05What?
02:06Even skin tone?
02:07Check.
02:08Keeping it tight and right?
02:09Check.
02:10I'm trying to help you out, baby.
02:11If you want all of this, stick around.
02:13Stick around.
02:14We got you.
02:15All right, guys.
02:16To kick things off, welcome Dr. Caroline Robinson and Maya Martin.
02:21Guys, we're so excited to have you guys here to talk about all things beauty routine.
02:25Maya, you work for Estee, so is that the cheat code to how your skin be looking poppin' and flawless?
02:30First of all, thank you, sis.
02:33I try to make sure my skin is always on ultralight beam.
02:36You're looking like a 1995 music video right now.
02:39I love it.
02:40I love it.
02:41I've always been into beauty, makeup, skincare, you name it, but coming to Estee definitely
02:45helped me to up the ante.
02:47I became women educated in terms of ingredients and, you know, benefits that come from certain
02:56products, how to expand on my skincare routine.
02:59And also, it's really important to have, like, clear, even, hydrated skin because that is truly
03:06the foundation to any type of makeup look.
03:08All right.
03:09Well, listen.
03:10Send me the cliff nose because, boo, whatever you're doing, I desire that, okay?
03:14Because you're popping.
03:15So, Dot, tell me how you got your start in beauty.
03:18And, I mean, were you always skincare obsessed?
03:20Like, what got you into the game?
03:23I was always obsessed with caring for my skin and preventing changes in my skin.
03:30And that kind of brought me into dermatology and eventually my career path.
03:35I know we have some beauty regrets between the three of us.
03:37So, we're going to play a little game I like to call Skin Care or Care Less.
03:42Y'all ready for this?
03:49Skin Care or Care Less.
03:51All right, guys.
03:52So, round one.
03:53Toothpaste as zit cream.
03:56I'm going to say that that is not the best approach to skincare treatment.
04:02The toothpaste should really be left for your teeth, to be quite honest.
04:05And for healthy-looking skin, you need something like our Advanced Night Repair Face Serum
04:10that has ingredients like hyaluronic acid to keep your skin clear versus fluoride.
04:16I like that answer.
04:17Good answer!
04:18Good answer!
04:19Listen, I'm not going to front.
04:21I definitely have been one to use toothpaste as zit cream.
04:24See, when you are mal-informed and misinformed, they be like,
04:27nah, you just got to put it in and it dries it out.
04:30And it's just like, but like you said, Wisdom has cried out.
04:32Hello?
04:33Hello?
04:34Mm-hmm.
04:35Pick up the phone.
04:36Hello?
04:37Okay.
04:38Wisdom?
04:39So, don't do that no more?
04:40Cool.
04:41So, don't do that no more.
04:42It don't matter if you're in eighth grade or if you're 80 years old.
04:43We got products.
04:44Round two!
04:45Doc, I think this might be for you.
04:47Melanin-rich skin does not need sunscreen.
04:52I think that's careless.
04:55I think all of us have fallen for that myth, but in order to protect our skin from the harmful effects of UV rays, like fine lines, wrinkles, unevenness, and skin cancer, we really need that SPF.
05:08She said that's careless.
05:10So, for y'all, brown skin, melanated folks who going out, it's summertime shy.
05:15Okay?
05:16We ready.
05:17We out here.
05:18We glowing.
05:19If you are not using an SPF anything, you're about to be SPFed.
05:23Okay?
05:24Do you?
05:25No, can we not say that?
05:26It came too quick.
05:28It happened.
05:29It's a thing.
05:30We grown.
05:31Sorry, Essence.
05:33Anyway.
05:34Next up.
05:35Oh, this is a good one.
05:37Men need beauty routines too.
05:40Skincare or careless?
05:43Men absolutely need beauty routines.
05:46That's skincare.
05:47I think we can't leave the guys behind.
05:49They need facials.
05:51They need moisturizer.
05:53They need sunscreen.
05:54They need all of the things that we need.
05:56And I think to that point too, outside of the moisturizers, the cleansers, and all of that, our men also need serums.
06:02Like, and we want to see their skin on ultralight beam just like ours is.
06:07Men can have that glow.
06:08And using serums like Advanced Night Repair Serum will help them retain that moisture and give them that hydrated glow that we love.
06:16Cause we got, we got, they got big boy beards.
06:18Okay?
06:19And so, you know, you got a big, you got to groom that.
06:21You got to brush that.
06:22You know, you got to put some oils on that.
06:24You got to make it so, don't be brillo patting me with your beard.
06:27Okay.
06:28Last round.
06:29Ooh, black skin.
06:31Black skin.
06:32Don't age.
06:33You know, they say black don't crack.
06:35So, is this a skin care or is this care less?
06:39Hate to break it to you, but this is care less.
06:42This is a huge myth that exists in the community and causes a lot of women and men to be reactive with their aging treatments versus proactive.
06:52And we need to adjust that.
06:54All right.
06:55Y'all nailed it.
06:56Game over.
06:57Everybody's a winner.
06:58Okay.
06:59You're a winner.
07:00You're a winner.
07:01Cause you the bomb.
07:02You the best.
07:03And your skin look good.
07:04All right guys.
07:05Well, I hope you had fun playing that little game or whatever.
07:06Stick around because there's still more to come.
07:08We'll be talking bedtime snacks with Alex Hill.
07:11Are y'all hungry?
07:12Cause I got the munchies.
07:14Alex, where you at?
07:16Can I get some snacks?
07:18Anyone flying in?
07:19No?
07:25Imagine your best self.
07:29You have the power to become that person.
07:35Keep advancing.
07:40Everybody, welcome back to Estee Lauder at night.
07:43You like that?
07:44Is it sexy?
07:45It's sexy for me.
07:46Hey!
07:47All right.
07:48Y'all know I'm your host, Yvonne Orji.
07:49But you know, we talked a lot about skincare.
07:51So now, I want to turn the conversation.
07:53I want to switch it up a little bit to everyone's favorite topic.
07:57Self-care.
07:58Cause you know, I love me a self-care Saturday.
08:00Self-care Sunday.
08:01Self-care Monday.
08:03Matter of fact, self-care every day.
08:05Let's do it.
08:06With me, I have Alex Hill, a.k.a.
08:08Just at Hot Sauce.
08:09How you doing, Alex?
08:10Hi!
08:11I'm so happy to be here.
08:13So, Alex, we all know that, you know, your self-care routine starts from inside.
08:18Okay?
08:19A lot of people think it's all on the outside, but it starts from the inside.
08:22I want to talk about food and my favorite meal, bedtime snacks.
08:27Mm-hmm.
08:28They're the best.
08:29They're the best.
08:30Yes.
08:35All right, Alex.
08:36So, the first bedtime snack that we're going to talk about, if it's good or not for your skin.
08:41Okay.
08:42It is chocolate ice cream with sweet and salty popcorn.
08:47I mean, what's wrong with that?
08:49I mean, I mean, your menstrual cycle is on.
08:52Everybody knows.
08:53It's the best.
08:54You get real hungry around that time.
08:56So, why not grab some chocolate ice cream with some sweet and salty popcorn, huh?
08:59Okay, so, it's my favorite, but I got to rate it a two, because when you're eating dairy, it causes your skin to break out.
09:08So, you don't want that, especially when Aunt Flo comes to town, you don't want that.
09:12So, I give it a two, but even in my heart, it's a ten.
09:16I mean, I give it a ten all the time, but it is what it is.
09:21This is why you're the professional.
09:23All right, dark chocolate covered pretzels.
09:26Kept in the freezer, though.
09:28Kept in the freezer.
09:30It's a ten.
09:31It's a ten, because dark chocolate is a superfood.
09:34It's an antioxidant, just like advanced night repair.
09:37So, you're covered with your face, your inside.
09:41You're covered, so it's good.
09:42You better call my trainer and tell her that this is not only good for my face,
09:45but it's also good for the abs that I told her that I wanted to get.
09:48Okay?
09:49Because, you know, I may not do crunches, but I be crunching.
09:52Listen, it's frozen.
09:54It's cold.
09:55It's chocolatey.
09:56You're good for the night.
09:57I need you to have my back on this one.
09:59My third favorite bedtime snack.
10:02Nigel Jalof rice.
10:04What do you say?
10:06It's a ten times seven.
10:08It's a ten all around.
10:11Listen, it's amazing.
10:12It's spicy.
10:13Spicy is good for your soul.
10:16So, it's a ten.
10:17That's what I'm trying to tell folks.
10:19It clears up your skin.
10:20You know, it prolongs your life.
10:22You know what I'm saying?
10:23It gives you, you know, girth for when you're birthing babies.
10:26Delof rice is multifaceted.
10:27It does.
10:28It does.
10:29It's amazing.
10:30It's a multi-
10:31It's a gravy.
10:32Yes.
10:33You gotta get everything on it.
10:34You know?
10:35It is a multi-purpose superfood.
10:37Don't come for me.
10:38I said what I said.
10:39It is.
10:40It is.
10:41All right.
10:42Well, as you can see, Alice told me that my bedtime snacks, except for the dairy, were
10:45phenomenal and they was popping.
10:47So, thank you so much for adding a little hot sauce to my bedtime snacks.
10:51You like that?
10:52I am swag.
10:53Yeah.
10:54But you guys, make sure you stick around because we have a special musical performance
10:58by none other than Miss India.
11:00India.
11:01I read.
11:02Ooh.
11:21And we're back.
11:22And we are ready to talk beauty with Maya and our musical guest, Miss India.
11:27I read.
11:28I'm ready.
11:29I know I'm ready.
11:30I hope you are too.
11:31Welcome, Miss India Ari.
11:34Thanks.
11:35So excited to be here with you today.
11:38You look phenomenal.
11:43So do you.
11:45Your skin is glowing.
11:47It's super clear.
11:49So, with that said, I want to go ahead and dive in.
11:53I know traditions are obviously a major part of our community and I want to talk a little
11:58bit about skincare routines and traditions that you had growing up.
12:03You're actually about to get a scoop because I've never really talked to anybody really
12:06about my skin story, but I have an interesting one.
12:09Okay.
12:10Because when you said my skin looked good and glowing and clear, this has been a long
12:15journey to get to this point with me and my skin.
12:18When I was young, I had very, very, very troubled skin.
12:23I would say my skin stayed troubled until I was probably 19 and then around 36, 37, it
12:32broke out again.
12:33And it was so bad that my mom said, this is worse than it was when you were a teenager.
12:37What do you think happened?
12:38And so what I learned as I got older was that I had allergies that I didn't know I
12:43had.
12:44I was eating what everybody else ate, but it was affecting my body different than it
12:47affected everyone else because I'm hypersensitive.
12:49And so if we're talking about traditions, one of the things that I think I really started
12:53back then was a nighttime regimen.
12:55It was always wash your face before you go to bed, even if I wasn't using the right things.
12:59Thank you for giving us that inside scoop.
13:01Also, I want to get into your song, I Am Not My Hair.
13:06And hearing that song and listening to the lyrics and the message and understanding that,
13:11you know, we're not only sort of the physical that we're showing up to in a space, whether
13:16we wear our hair in braids or twist outs or shave it or, you know, long weaves.
13:20I mean, there's so much versatility there.
13:22But regardless of how we choose to show up, we're more than that.
13:26The essence of who we are and what we bring to the table really remains true.
13:31So just wanted to say thank you so much for that beautiful message.
13:37It's not a song about hair.
13:39It's a song about self-definition and how you define yourself.
13:44It's a song about dogmatic self-definition, the things that you think make you you.
13:48It's a song about who you give your definition to, who you give the power to define you.
13:54And it's a song, it's really a song about making healthy choices around how you define yourself
13:59and making the choice to define yourself and using hair as an allegory for that.
14:05Because so much of our society is based on what things look like.
14:10And, you know, when it comes down to black women, we, our hair has always been a big conversation
14:16because it doesn't fit the Eurocentric mold of beauty.
14:19We can make it fit, but that's the magic of having black hair.
14:23It can look like a lot of things.
14:25And so when we choose to let it be what it is, using that as allegory for saying,
14:30I choose to let myself be what I am.
14:33I am not my hair.
14:35I am not the skin.
14:38I am not your expectations.
14:42No, no, no.
14:43I am not my hair.
14:46I am not the skin.
14:48I am the soul that lives within.
14:53I don't know where that ending came from.
14:58I'm trying not to sing loud.
15:01Anyway, there you go, Mom.
15:02I did it.
15:05You sound incredible.
15:06Thank you so much for that.
15:08So thank you so much, Ms. Indyari, for being here today, for giving us insight into your skincare journey, how you proactively treat your skin, and for that beautiful melody that you sang to us with, I am not my hair. We are all standing. And with that said, I will kick it back to Yvonne.
15:30Thank you for joining me on Estee Lauder at night, because you got to say it sexy, at night. I hope that you've enjoyed your time. Now please enjoy our grand finale, the gorgeous Grammy Award winning artist, Ms. Indyari. Take it away.
15:47I am Indyari, and this is my band and my friends, Kevin Randolph, Kari Simmons, Maya Dyson, Gene Moore, Joel Cross, and Charles Lamont Garner.
16:04And we have prepared a little acoustic version of my jam. This is Steady Love.
16:13Steady Love.
16:21Steady Love.
16:25Steady Love.
16:28The way that he looks in me, when he holds my hand, he wants everyone to know, I'm this woman and he is my man.
16:41He can talk about anything. He's got nothing to hide. He's not afraid of his feelings. He's not a slave to his pride. He's giving me love.
16:55So steady.
16:58He touches my heart.
17:01Now I'm ready.
17:04He touches my soul.
17:07And my spirit.
17:10He's giving me love.
17:13He's giving me love.
17:14So steady.
17:15He's got me so steady.
17:18Ooh.
17:21Steady love.
17:24Ooh.
17:27Steady love.
17:29I have never met a man that I wanted to be his wife.
17:36But then he came along.
17:40It's so natural to make a life.
17:43Cause he's my perfect compliment.
17:46Cause I'm a boss in my world.
17:49But when we're together,
17:51he just makes me feel like his girl.
17:54He's giving me love.
17:56So steady.
17:58So steady.
17:59He touches my heart.
18:03Now I'm ready.
18:06He touches my soul.
18:09And my spirit.
18:12He's giving me love.
18:15So steady.
18:17He puts every other man I've ever known to shame.
18:24Known to shame.
18:24I just want to be with him.
18:27Talk to him.
18:27Sleep near him.
18:28Walk with him.
18:29Be with him.
18:30Every day.
18:31I want to be lovers and friends.
18:34And mother,
18:34his children make breakfast on Sunday.
18:37Fight and then make up again.
18:39I'm just going to be crazy.
18:41Anyway,
18:42I want to do it with him.
18:44He's a good father.
19:01He's a good cook.
19:04He loves his basketball.
19:06And he loves a good book.
19:09I'll tell you how I know he's the perfect one for me.
19:15Because he's a warrior in the streets.
19:18But he's a king in them sheets.
19:21He's giving me love.
19:24So steady.
19:27He touches my eye.
19:30Now I'm ready.
19:32He touches my soul.
19:35And my soul.
19:38He's giving me love.
19:43So steady.
19:45He's giving me love.
19:49So steady.
19:51He touches my heart.
19:54Now I'm ready.
19:56He touches my soul.
20:01And my spirit.
20:04He's giving me love.
20:07So steady.
20:08So steady.
20:12He's giving me love.
20:17Hey ladies. Here's a little secret. There's no one way to be 45 or 25. Both can be buying their
20:40first house or their first face serum. Just like both can be rocking short hair with tight jeans.
20:45Hello. When it comes to life, it's less about checking the age-appropriate box and more about
20:51doing what makes you feel good. With S.A. Lauder, there's no right time or right age to become the
20:57best version of yourself. All that matters is that you do. Keep advancing, ladies. I know I will.
21:05Who's coming with me?
