00:00Hi everyone, I'm Maya Martin, Director of Consumer Engagement for Estee Lauder and I could not be more excited to be here hosting this segment today.
00:13Essence and Estee Lauder have once again partnered together to not only celebrate but also uplift black women in our unique beauty experiences and we are so excited to come together yet again for another Essence Fest.
00:25So without further ado, let's go ahead and get started. Today we have first and foremost YouTube superstar, beauty influencer and self-proclaimed mamapreneur Ellery who will be joining us. Welcome Ellery.
00:41Hi, thank you so much to Estee Lauder team for having me. I'm so excited to share this little summertime makeup look.
00:47I know my daughter reminds me often when I need to spruce myself up so this is coming at a perfect time.
00:54I want to welcome our second guest who is world-renowned model, star of Real Housewives of Atlanta. Welcome Cynthia Bailey.
01:04Hey you guys, what's up? It's me. I'm so excited to be here. Last year this time we were actually in New Orleans when I participated with Essence and Estee Lauder and it was amazing.
01:14So I'm very happy to be back here again. You know, I love a great beat face. I put on a little light beat before I got started but I can't wait to just talk about all the great tips.
01:24That leads us to our third and final guest, tennis pro and also my personal fitspo, Sloane Stephens. Welcome Sloane.
01:34Hi guys, I'm so excited to be here. I need to learn more tips and tricks about makeup so I'm super excited. Cynthia already looks amazing so I'm super jealous.
01:46But Ellery hopefully will help me out and I'll be able to look much better after this.
01:52Yes. But you look great.
01:54You're already serving skin.
01:56Exactly.
01:57I'm trying, I'm trying.
01:59I know for this summer, especially with it being kind of like more like a home summer, which is no excuse. We can still look cute at home. I always like to do less now. I went from like the five layer cake to more like a mini cupcake, like just a little, a little face.
02:15I love, I actually am wearing double wear stay in place foundation, which is amazing. And I love it so much because it's light. It doesn't feel like I have anything on my face really, but it also gives me a very finished look because I don't want like light and then it looks like I don't really have anything on. If I'm going to put it on, I want to look like I have a little bit on.
02:33I try to be like as light as possible because I feel like I'm always sweating and like the stay in place has been amazing for me because I have long days and it's very easy for me. I find helpful to match it up. Like if I look on my phone and I did a shoot with essay water a while ago and they gave me this and I'm like, Oh wait, wait, here we go. And I'm always, I'm almost at the end. I'm like scraping the bottom of this too, but it is so good. Like this is one of my favorite products.
02:58So I literally have a ton of them and I just keep in my tennis bag, my makeup bag and I like can't live without this. So literally foundation, mascara, and I mix my foundation with like the moisturizer, like the SPF one, just because I'm in the sun all the time. It stays and it's just super easy. So yeah, that's basically it. Very simple. I don't know how to apply bronzer. So you're on with that one.
03:28I'm really picky when it comes to my foundation. So this is one that I can vouch for and I always keep right on the desk so that I always know when I choose it, it's going to be everything that I need stays in place. It's it controls my oil stays on all day. I'm a sweater too. And I do not like to look like a grease ball. So I need something that can control this face, not move.
03:57I don't want it to settle or change colors. It like does everything it's supposed to do and it's it shades. So they got you. My goal is just to make the skin look really nice and flawless. A little light glow, no eyeshadow, just a little mascara, a little gloss.
04:11Be good. Because we all are looking good up in here. So set me, you know, a little shiny, but we're going to pick that.
04:17I am super shiny.
04:20Everyone's skin looks so good. Even just before we start, everyone's complexion is super clear.
04:25It's one color. It's even. I mean, we're catching the light, but no, it looks flawless.
04:30It looks flawless. One thing, too, that I want to touch on that I think all of us have mentioned in this chat is oftentimes our skin complexions are changing, whether it's due to the season, whether it's due to travel, whether it's to being outdoors.
04:45Like you were saying, clone, because you were on the court killing it all day long.
04:50So we actually have a virtual shade finding tool. It will tell you exactly what shade you are and match you to the specific undertone that you are.
04:59So for me, in the wintertime, I can be a little pasty. So normally I'm a neutral undertone, but in the summer, you know, when I'm load up, she's a little warmer undertone.
05:10So I love that it takes all of the guessing games away. It's super seamless. And within a matter of seconds, you can find your perfect shade for any time of year.
05:20I always start with a clean space, hydrated. I always try to use a moisturizer that has an SPF in it, but sometimes they don't control your oil as much.
05:30And because I like a matte look, I try to use a moisturizer that has something mattifying, even if I go on top of the SPF.
05:36So Estee Lauder has the Daywear Matte Oil Control Moisturizer, and it's not going to give you a matte dry look, but it's definitely going to control some of the oil so that you start off, you know, removing some of that excess and it's not going to, like, dry you out.
05:52I think I already messed it up. Wait.
05:55Yeah, you didn't do that much.
05:58That was too much?
06:00Less is more, but it's fine.
06:02Wait, wait, wait. I got to start over already.
06:05Do your neck. You can do your neck because you always want to apply everything that's on your face to the neck and go up.
06:12Your ears, too. They need to be moisturized, too.
06:14Your ears?
06:16Yeah, we can't leave out your ears. Like, when you're doing makeup and stuff, like, you definitely do to your face.
06:22I do to my ears and also my neck as well.
06:27Okay. Are we good?
06:29Moisturized.
06:30So, next, we've all mentioned her, the Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation.
06:38The only thing about this, there's so many different ways to put it on your foundation.
06:42You kind of have to find the best way for you.
06:43A lot of people like to put it on with their fingers because it warms up the product.
06:47Some people like brushes.
06:49Some people like blenders.
06:50You really are just going to find the best way it comes on naturally for you.
06:54But I just dot all over my face.
06:57Here we go.
07:00And you can either rub it on, like, a lotion, just like a moisturizer, or you can use a sponge.
07:06It's going to give you a little bit more coverage because this is medium to full coverage, which is my favorite because sometimes I don't like a really heavy full coverage foundation.
07:14So, you can add as little or as much as you want to get whatever desired coverage you want.
07:20Right.
07:20I find when I do mine for daytime, I like doing it with my hands because it just makes it a little lighter.
07:26But if I want a heavier coverage, I use my blender.
07:30And sometimes I'll use brushes as well.
07:31But for the most part, it's blenders and hands.
07:35Agreed.
07:36I've never used my hands before.
07:38So, this is more of, like, an arts and crafts for me right now.
07:42But I'm loving it.
07:43I mean, it's blending really well.
07:47It really is.
07:48It looks like your skin.
07:49Yeah.
07:50It really looks like your skin.
07:52And if you have any places you want to put a little bit more on, like, I'm usually light, like, around my nose.
07:57You can always add just a little bit more wherever you need a little bit more coverage.
08:02What do they call that?
08:03Don't they call that, like, your five o'clock shadow or something?
08:07I feel like I have, guys.
08:08I think that's the most of it.
08:09I think that's the most of it.
08:09I think that's the most of it.
08:13I mean, some people want to have a five o'clock shadow.
08:15Oh, Lord.
08:17No, never mind.
08:18Not my five o'clock shadow.
08:20I was just about to grab mine.
08:22Because I use the deep warm, 5W deep warm.
08:26Because I don't really like a super heavy highlight.
08:29I like, like, maybe a shade, maybe a shade and a half lighter.
08:35That way it doesn't have to look like you have, like, a full three, five, six layers of makeup.
08:42It's really just sort of that shadow under your eyes.
08:45Right here, this little crevice, you know.
08:46This is the radiant concealer, like you said.
08:51And that's what I'm going to use next.
08:52So it does have an applicator, too.
08:54That's going to make it easy.
08:55You don't have to use your finger to apply it.
08:57You can just dot it with the applicator and then kind of work it in with your finger.
09:01And it's the tap, tap, tap, not, like, rub.
09:04You just want to kind of press it into your skin.
09:07Okay.
09:09This is creating symmetry with the face.
09:11Come on.
09:12There you are.
09:14Yeah.
09:14Let's talk to something, Ellery.
09:15I never did.
09:16I always do here.
09:17I do here.
09:19I didn't know to do here.
09:20And the chin and the smile line.
09:23So, all right.
09:23I got to try that.
09:25Wait.
09:26Pause.
09:26What's going on there now?
09:28This is just a face powder.
09:29Just a neutral.
09:31Okay.
09:31It's just a set.
09:33Yeah.
09:34Okay.
09:35I'm following.
09:35So, Sloane, you didn't want to try the concealer?
09:38Wait.
09:39I never wear concealer.
09:40Like, this is, like, my, like, basic look.
09:43But I'm, like, now I feel like I should try it.
09:46If you're scared, you can just do one thing.
09:48Yeah, just try it.
09:49I actually put it more than I needed.
09:50Mm-hmm.
09:51Yeah.
09:51But wait.
09:52Okay.
09:53You got to elevate your makeup game, boo, for when you want to.
09:56I know, right?
09:57I'm, like, okay.
09:58Hold on.
09:58I mean, you don't really need it, but if you want to do it.
10:01Mm-hmm.
10:02Wait.
10:02Let me see.
10:03Oh, wait.
10:04Turn this side.
10:05Wait, like that?
10:06Is that too light?
10:07That, that, that's not.
10:09That's not.
10:10Yeah.
10:10That's our name.
10:11Yep.
10:12Okay.
10:13And just.
10:13Like that.
10:14Don't rub.
10:14I have to do everything she said.
10:16Mm-hmm.
10:17Okay.
10:18And then I have to blend all of this in.
10:19To seal her brush.
10:20Here we go.
10:21Yes, ma'am.
10:22Here we go.
10:22Okay.
10:23And that's a good size for under your eyes, too, Sloane.
10:26And it all in.
10:28Right.
10:28And you are highlighted.
10:33Oh, okay.
10:35So now that you're, you're ready.
10:38I mean, not, like, well, not all of us were blessed with the, um, Cynthia Bailey bones.
10:44So.
10:45Yeah.
10:45We need a little bit of time here.
10:46We need a little help.
10:47Okay.
10:48I'm looking at the moon right now just because I don't, I'm not highlighting any of the shadows
10:52in my face to give me this.
10:55And I want this.
10:56So I'm going to get the bronze goddess bronzer.
11:01Okay.
11:01And like I said, you can use concealer, but, um, I like to use bronzer and you're just
11:08going to work the perimeter of your forehead, hollows of your cheeks up in this direction.
11:14And that's usually all I like to do when I'm doing something really soft, because it's
11:18just going to give me a little bit more definition in my face.
11:21I just like to stamp it on.
11:24Wait, are you using your big brush?
11:25This one?
11:27This brush is a pretty decent size.
11:29You can go smaller, but since I'm not putting a lot, I'm just using this one.
11:33Cause I'm just using the corner of the, of the brush.
11:37I'm not like swirling it in there.
11:39And then you can also get, I don't do my, this area too often, but it kind of helps to
11:45get a little, you know, file that side profile.
11:51I usually just use the excess on the brush to get my jawline.
11:57Oh, I like this.
11:59Yeah.
11:59It's looking good.
12:01It's looking founcy.
12:03So next, it's also in the bronze goddess collection.
12:06It is an illuminating powder.
12:08I'm trying to open mine.
12:10And this is.
12:11You've got to push it in.
12:12Yeah.
12:12Look at this.
12:13Look at this.
12:14I love this.
12:16Is that the same one?
12:17What color is yours?
12:18I have solar crush.
12:20Yep.
12:20That's the one I have as well.
12:21Same.
12:22Wait, I have heat wave.
12:26That was going to be my second option.
12:28Like, I kind of work both.
12:30Yeah.
12:31Okay.
12:32I'm greedy.
12:33Where am I putting it?
12:34Right here?
12:35The highest points of your cheeks.
12:37Mm-hmm.
12:37Yep.
12:38Cheeks first.
12:39Yep.
12:39Right there.
12:40Yep.
12:40I just put it on the tip of my nose.
12:46Mm-hmm.
12:47I don't do a stripe down the nose, but I do like to run it over the brim of the tip of
12:52my nose.
12:53And some people go crazy.
12:55Some people put it on, like, these points of their chin.
13:00Some people like to put it on their chin.
13:01I just usually do the cheeks, a little bit on the nose, and then my cupid's bow.
13:05Mm-hmm.
13:06Now, I know you said you don't wear lashes all the time, Cynthia, but I'm bald-eyed.
13:10I don't have no eyelashes.
13:13Right.
13:13I am not bald-eyed.
13:15I have a little lash one right there.
13:18I have a little eyes as well, but I still, I just embrace my bald eyes.
13:22This is Pure Color Envy Lash, and I like mascara wands that have, like, the defining
13:29bristles and the with bristles, because you can, like, comb through your eyelashes and
13:34then add more volume with the other side of the brush.
13:37I know a lot of people in the movies, they pump their mascara wands, but that's putting
13:40air in there, and it'll dry out faster.
13:42It doesn't dry it out?
13:43No.
13:44I didn't know that.
13:45So, no pumping?
13:46No pumping.
13:47No pumping.
13:48No pumping.
13:48No pumping.
13:48No pumping.
13:48Come on, Cynthia.
13:49I even knew that.
13:51I've been pumping for years.
13:53Okay.
13:54Okay.
13:55Something like an all cast and all the girls are there, you know, I may have somebody
13:58come in, you know, I may bring in the pros to give me, like, a big look, because usually
14:01if we all get together, I know that will definitely be in the show, that scene.
14:06So, if I'm going to spend money on glam, but, you know, it gets a little expensive, I definitely
14:11want to call in the big dogs for that.
14:13And for our professionals, like when we sit and we, like, throw shade and, like, read
14:17and be funny or whatever, we always have professional people do us for that.
14:21But any, you see me going over to Kenya's or going to meet candy somewhere, usually for
14:26the most part, I do makeup.
14:28I do makeup.
14:30Okay.
14:31That is amazing.
14:32Girl, you look good.
14:33I learned how to do it from, you know, before I was a housewife.
14:35I was a model.
14:36And, like, honestly, all the models that I came up with, Naomi and Tara, all those girls,
14:40Iman, they all know how to beat their face.
14:41Like, we had to know how to do our makeup because, you know, we're older than y'all now, okay?
14:46So, with that said, today, you know, we didn't have a lot of different shades.
14:51And a lot of times we would work with white makeup artists and they didn't always have
14:54our colors.
14:55So, we always brought our own makeup and we always, you know, knew how to, like, you know,
14:59touch it up if we didn't get the beat that we wanted.
15:01Right.
15:02So, trust me, all those ladies, those talented, beautiful models that I came up with can beat
15:06their face probably better than any makeup artist can ever do it.
15:10The routine we just did today, I feel like, is something that you can take with you because
15:13you did good.
15:14You looked good.
15:15Yeah, I can definitely do this.
15:16We didn't even did the lift yet.
15:18No, but, yeah, no, no.
15:19I'm definitely going to, like, DM you and be like, can you write down my routine so I
15:24don't forget?
15:25Not write down my routine.
15:28I got you.
15:29I got you.
15:31So, I'm going to use a gloss.
15:33I like to use glosses all summer long just because they're so easy.
15:37You don't even need a mirror when you have a gloss in your purse.
15:40This is just a really nice gold bronze color that makes your lips have a little.
15:46It's very subtle.
15:47They're good toppers too.
15:48This is a good topper.
15:49Like, if you have a new, like, even a new gloss.
15:52And I also have peach chill, which is really pretty for daytime.
15:55Oh, that's what I'm wearing today.
15:57Yeah, peach chill is really good.
15:59And I like that they're not really sticky either.
16:02Mm-mm.
16:03Yeah, they're super smooth and soft.
16:05Mm-hmm.
16:06Mm-hmm.
16:07And then that's, that's pretty, that's pretty much it, guys.
16:10That's pretty much it.
16:11Well, that's the whole look?
16:12Yes.
16:13Whole look.
16:14It just turned you up and out.
16:15The whole point was to accentuate, you know, what you already had.
16:19And you were already looking good before you started.
16:21But I can see the little subtle differences.
16:23It looks super natural, which is the point.
16:26Wait, do you guys see that corner?
16:27That corner right there?
16:28I do.
16:29Like a little highlight?
16:30Yeah.
16:31That little highlight there?
16:32Yeah.
16:33Ooh, that one's a little bit more, but we'll just go back to this one.
16:35But yeah.
16:36This one is good.
16:37This one right here.
16:38Right?
16:39My skin looks so, like, even on this side.
16:41I like how the foundation, like, really, like, it's full coverage.
16:45I really like that.
16:46Mm-hmm.
16:47And it's, it looks, like, super smooth.
16:49And, like, maybe because I did it with my hands, I've never done that before either.
16:52Mm-hmm.
16:53So that was maybe also, I warmed it up.
16:56Mm-hmm.
16:57That's a term I just learned.
16:58So, I did that.
16:59You can really make a little makeup look with just your hands.
17:01So they're your best tools to have.
17:02Yeah.
17:03Back in the day, it was very hard for Black women to find a shade.
17:06Yeah.
17:07And so we were constantly sort of having to be chemists, if you will.
17:11And mix and match different shades, maybe different brands to get the perfect foundation color.
17:16And, again, that's one of the questions that people ask me the most.
17:20You know, where can I find, you know, a foundation that matches?
17:23And I would definitely refer them right over here to Estee Lauder.
17:29Because, like I said, I believe that they have a foundation color for any skin color, honestly.
17:35Amazing.
17:36Well, with that, ladies, I want to thank you all so much for spending time with us today.
17:42This was absolutely fantastic.
17:44Ellery, we learned so much from you.

18:11Definitely.
18:12Yes.
