00:00Monday is MLK some people look at it as a three-day holiday it's their day to be off if you will but
00:09there's there's such a bigger story and a bigger legacy and a bigger history to that final thoughts
00:14and I'll start here with you Donovan what would you like people to do on that day you know I like
00:20think that people should do whatever black people in particular should do whatever we want to do on
00:24MLK day because you know black black service matters black rest matters black barbecues matter
00:31like he didn't die for us to be you know guilty into you know putting in work that you know it's
00:37a day that honestly if you work 365 days of a year if you have a full-time job rest okay
00:42we were just talking about this I think ultimately black people need to do whatever is going to keep
00:50them alive whatever's going to keep them restful and spirited and joy because it's hard being black
00:5524 7 and we don't just need one day to recognize that and I think that ultimately whatever whatever
01:01anyone does within the rest of the 364 days that exists in the year is that we still need the black
01:08people to be active and engaged within the larger movement and one day of rest can be can be something
01:13that we can still live up to Christina quickly and this is not diluting King's groundwork the groundwork
01:19that he laid for this movement it obviously is a springboard into this bigger black liberation
01:23movement we're in now but we when I say we were just talking about this self-care is so important
01:28and that's not a conversation we're having enough we're organizing we're mobilizing and we're telling
01:32the stories as journalists and that's traumatizing black trauma is real and we see it every day and we
01:37can't disconnect from it because not only is it our job but it's our passion it's our commitment
01:42it's what we do so we're going to take a day I don't see what's wrong with sleeping in
01:46or going to the spa or doing whatever you want to do or playing your house music and just relaxing
01:54and really taking care of yourself and doing what you love to do to make sure that you're
01:57the best black person that you can be when you go back out there in the world
