00:00This beauty who's joining me, there's the exchange. Ms. Ken Fields, how are you?
00:11I'm awesome. How are you?
00:12I'm fabulous. You look absolutely stunning. You better slay for the camera.
00:16You better slay. Now, is this your first Essence Festival?
00:18Ooh, no, girl. Not at all. Not at all. I have been here before with Verizon.
00:24This year I'm here with Walmart and AARP, and at one point I performed in the Super Lounge
00:30when I was doing my spoken word and smooth jazz with a group called Impromptu.
00:35So I've been here many times.
00:37And what keeps you coming back year after year?
00:39Well, first of all, the people who invite you, you know.
00:43It's such an important work that they do year round to connect with their consumer,
00:48to be able to send positive, empowering messages, especially to women.
00:53And then especially to women of color.
00:56So that's pretty much the main thing that keeps you coming back, you know,
00:59to be able to reconnect with your village.
01:01Definitely, definitely.
01:02And New Orleans is known for having such great culture and food.
01:06So what do you hit up when you're here in New Orleans?
01:08Dookie Chase.
01:10Since I was seven, eight years old, I have been going to Dookie Chase every single time
01:16I come to New Orleans for various appearances over my 40-year career.
01:21Thank you, Father.
01:22So Mama Chase, it's always wonderful to see her and the kids, the grandkids, everybody.
01:28So that's my spot.
01:29And then Cafe Du Monde.
01:32You've got to get dirty with the powdered sugar all over you.
01:35Absolutely.
01:36Who are you looking forward to seeing over the weekend?
01:39Well, certainly, I already have seen Babyface, which he just puts on such a great show.
01:43And it's like you go, oh my God, you wrote that?
01:45You wrote that?
01:46I mean, he has his own hits.
01:47And then when you realize, oh my goodness, you wrote this, that, and there.
01:51So that was wonderful.
01:52I'm certainly looking forward to seeing my boy's new addition.
01:55And Maxwell, I mean, come on.
01:58I remember my first Maxwell concert at Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles.
02:03I had a front row seat, and he had just hit the scene.
02:07And it was almost like the set was so cool, and it was almost like you were just in this
02:12dude's living room just, you know, vibing off of some good music and lyrics.
02:17And it was just, oh, it's so hot.
02:19I can't wait.
02:20Awesome, awesome.
02:21What other projects are you working on?
02:22Because I know you are always working on something.
02:24So where can our fans find you?
02:25What are you up to?
02:26Well, certainly at KimFields.com and on social media with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram,
02:31the whole shebang at Kim Fields or the official Kim Fields.
02:35I'm currently back in the lab after finishing Dancing with the Stars and Real Housewives of
02:41Atlanta for that season.
02:42So I'm back in my lab, as I say, just finishing out my inspirational book called Keep Your Soul
02:48in Check.
02:49And then I also have my autobiography coming out towards the end of this year, top of next
02:53year, called Bless Life.
02:55And I'm celebrating my 40th anniversary in the industry.
02:58So we're doing a big event.
02:59So hopefully you'll come and be invited.
03:01Well, I know you'll be invited.
03:03But hopefully you'll come and hang out with us there.
03:05And we have a few scripted projects that we're doing as well.
03:08Congratulations on everything that you do.
