Transcript
00:00So congratulations on the performance last night.
00:08Thank you so much. I'm happy I got through it.
00:10It's just great to be a part of the Essence process, the story.
00:14I mean, I've told you about how I feel about the magazine.
00:17Absolutely.
00:18How it inspires so many people in inner city rural areas to aspire for greater things
00:27than what The Corner is showing them that they can be.
00:30And to be 43 and to be able to get this amazing honor of being involved with Essence,
00:38my second cover.
00:40My first book was like 97 or 8 or something.
00:45So it's just an honor.
00:47It's like really the cherry on top.
00:51It's great to be able to celebrate it with the bass,
00:54to be in New Orleans, a country, a city that has faced some serious obstacles
01:03in the very same way as we have as people of color and overcome.
01:09You know, look at it now.
01:10It's amazing.
01:11And Essence is keeping it alive.
01:12And, you know, there was 20th anniversary of the Maze,
01:15Frankie Beverly and Maze last year.
01:17In Louisiana, Maze is like, I mean, they're just what they are.
01:22Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:23They're gods.
01:24It's basically like the ground that you walk on.
01:26It's Maze.
01:27And the synergy of that.
01:29And then it's all so beautiful, man.
01:31It's like, it's just great to be a part of this musical community
01:35and to be recognized and to have recognition for it over these many years.
01:40I'm so grateful.
