YouTuber Tiarra Monet shows how to do makeup when you have colorful hair.
Transcript
00:00Hey guys, what's up? It is your girl, TMA, and I partnered with Essence today, and I'm
00:15so excited to show you guys how to marry your mermaid hair with your makeup. I know, neon
00:20hair is something I usually run from too, but I learned how to make sure that my makeup
00:24compliments it, and that's what we're going to do today. I know I might sound a little
00:28weird, guys. I am three weeks into lingual braces. Google it. It is not cute, but I hope
00:36you guys can understand me because I'm really excited about this, so let's get right into
00:40it. So I'm going to start by taking a little bit of concealer and applying it to my eyelid.
00:44This is going to neutralize my lid and make the color stick. Then I'm going to take a little
00:52bit of translucent powder and lightly press that in. Next, using a fluffy brush, I'm going
01:00to take a really nice, earth-toned color. When you have fun, vibrant hair, you want to
01:03make sure that your makeup matches it. So I'm going to make sure that our eye look is going
01:07to match this mermaid hair, but not take away from it at the same time. So I'm going to take
01:11a really neutral color and apply that to my lid. That is going to be the color that I blend
01:15out. Next, we're going to build up a gradient, and we're going to use a darker color and pop
01:27that right underneath that color we just supplied. We're going to pop that darker color right in
01:36the crease. The crease is exactly where your eye folds when you open it up wide. So you want
01:40to find that line and pop that darker color right in there.
01:52So we're going to go real light on the black shades, but we still want to have a nice gradient
01:56effect. So I'm going to mix black and brown, and that'll be my final crease color.
02:07Make sure whatever you do to one, you do to the other. I'm going to go back into that maroon
02:18color, and this is going to finish up our blending.
02:21You guys can see how that literally dulled down all that black, but we want to create a gradient-like
02:33effect, so don't be afraid of the color. We're going to go back into that flat concealer brush
02:38earlier, and use whatever product is left over, and apply that to our lid.
02:50Let's talk color. So of course, I have green and yellow hair, so on this palette, I'm going to stick to the green and yellow colors.
02:56If you have red hair, you're going to stick with maroons and browns, and so on and so forth. So I'm going to tap into that yellow and apply that exactly where I just applied that concealer.
03:06We're going to go back using a blending brush and marry those two shades.
03:21I'm going to go into the shadow that has green and yellow flecks of gold in it, so I'm going to take that and pop that right in the inner corner of my eye.
03:33So our eyes are done for now. What I'm going to do is go in and start on the skin, honey.
03:47What I like to do is use a reflective booster, and I use this as my primer.
03:52So if you're not into highlighting post-foundation, this is a great way to have that shimmer shine through, and you don't have to add a highlighter later.
04:04Next, I'm going to take a color corrector and get rid of all the hyperpigmentation spots that I have.
04:09I love using a salmon or orange face concealer because it cancels out all the dark tones on my face.
04:18Now we're going to blend, blend, blend.
04:20And be sure not to use too much of this. Sometimes we use too much of it, so a little goes a long way.
04:29Next, I'm going to go into my favorite foundation and add a few drops. This is going to even out my skin complexion.
04:38I like to fill my foundation in all the spots that I want to cover, and then blend it out from there.
04:49Now it's time to add some dimension. I'm going to go on using a foundation stick that is about two shades darker than my skin,
05:07and we're going to use this to contour.
05:20Scary, I know. But it's actually really easy to blend out. Let's get into it.
05:24I love using a beauty blender for this part, but post-brush.
05:27So what we're going to do, we're going to use this brush right here to blur those harsh lines.
05:37Make sure you blend all the way down so that you snatch if you do have that double chin. I had one.
05:49So this definitely helps get rid of it.
05:52Now it's time to further blur, and we're going to go in using a wet blender. This is going to help give you that airbrush-like look.
06:13All right, guys. Now it is time to highlight. So we're going to bring the light back into the face.
06:18And I like to use varying shades of concealer to do that. My base concealer is this really pretty yellow tone.
06:24I like to put this under my eye and everywhere I want the light to kiss me.
06:48Now we're going to go back into that blender and blur these lines.
07:05Always make sure that your blender is damp, not wet.
07:08This will make sure that the product is not absorbed into the sponge and you don't waste any.
07:12And it will also make sure that you look airbrushed.
07:23Now it is time to bake.
07:25What we're going to do is use a light translucent powder.
07:28We're going to pack that onto a brush and pack it under all the places that we use highlight.
07:33And you're just going to press the powder into your concealer.
07:47We're going to use a chocolate tone translucent powder to kind of carve out our cheekbones.
07:52So now that we're baking all of the highlighted areas, we have to still set those chocolate contoured areas.
08:13And I like to use a really chocolate brown blush or bronzer to set those darker foundations.
08:27Now using the same exact color as your normal skin tone, we're going to dip into that with a fluffy brush.
08:31And we're going to blend both the highlight and the contour powders.
08:34I'm going to use this really pretty coral color.
08:44This is going to serve as my blush color.
08:48And you want to place that blush right above your contour.
08:55So here's where we get into the color coordinating of the makeup look.
08:58I like to use a highlight that is very close to the hair color.
09:01So again, if you have more of like an orange hair look, you want to go for more of a copper tone highlight.
09:07If you have more of a red, you want to go for more of this pinkish.
09:10You want to stay within the same shade range or hue of the color that you're rocking on your hair.
09:14Except for black, of course.
09:16Black is universal. You can wear whatever you want.
09:18So I'm going to lightly dip into this yellow.
09:20And if you're afraid of going too yellow, you can also mix this in your favorite gold or neutral highlighter.
09:31I also like to mix in that same shimmer that I used on my inner corner on my highlight as well.
09:42Don't be afraid to use some shadow to highlight.
09:45It looks good.
09:46I'm going to take this really pretty neon color and I'm going to apply that to my waterline.
09:59Not only is that going to open up my eyes, it's also going to tie in to the hair.
10:04You know, you know, you know already.
10:05Okay.
10:12Then we're going to go back into that same palette we used to create the gradient.
10:15And we're going to dip into this really pretty chocolate color.
10:18And we're going to put that right underneath on.
10:19It's going to give you a doll baby like look.
10:29Alright, we're almost done guys.
10:30But I'm going to get into these eyebrows because we cannot not get into them.
10:34And my favorite brow product is this like really thick brow pomade.
10:39It literally stays on all day.
10:55Now we're going to clean up our brows using the same concealer we used earlier and a really fine brush.
11:00This is going to give you that really sharp, precise eyebrow.
11:04And I like to kind of use it in really tiny strokes and just kind of erase all the hair that I should have tweezed earlier.
11:09And then you want to just blend out any harsh lines that you may have.
11:24Because they will roast you for having those boxy brows, trust me.
11:30We're going to go back into that same shimmer shade that I applied right here.
11:37And we're going to use that to highlight our brow bone.
11:39This is exactly how you're going to tie all the color in.
11:42And of course, we need to finish the eye look with some mascara.
11:55So we're going to keep the lips really neutral because we have enough color going on.
12:08So I'm going to use this really pretty brown lip liner.
12:10This is going to be the base for my neutral lip.
12:14So now we're going to use a liquid lipstick.
12:24And I love liquid lipsticks because they last all day.
12:27And I'm going to apply this right in the center of my lip.
12:30This is like the perfect neutral color for brown girls.
12:32And I'm going to blend it outward.
12:35Now, of course, I have to add yellow to the lips too.
12:44And I have this really pretty gloss that has these gold yellow-like flecks in it.
12:48And I'm going to apply this to the center of my lip.
12:51And I think we're almost done.
12:58Oh my gosh, I almost forgot.
12:59We've got to set our face, right?
13:01I'm going to take my favorite setting spray.
13:02This is definitely an all-nighter.
13:04And I'm going to spray this all over my face.
13:06I like to bathe in it personally.
13:08And this is going to keep my makeup snatched.
13:13Never too much.
13:15Maybe there is too much, but I love it.
13:18So now we're going to let that sit in, sink in, set us.
13:22So now you guys can see that all the yellow is going to tie in.
13:25I have yellow in my hair, yellow in my cheeks, my lids, the high points of my brow, my lips.
13:31So now the yellow is the universal color for me.
13:33When people look at you, they're going to see the yellow in your face and your hair.
13:36And it will kind of blend and marry each other so well.
13:39Thank you guys so much for tuning in.
