00:00So success looks different for everyone.
00:07Joanne, what does it look like when you've actually dug deep and done the entrepreneurship
00:10work?
00:11What's success?
00:12Is it having nine stores, nine McDonald restaurants?
00:14Nah.
00:15To me, it's about what are you doing for everybody else?
00:18It's about that next person who want to be like me or who helped me be me.
00:25When I see where we have the ability to give back to our communities, one of my most important
00:31is the education.
00:32I do a lot of scholarships, giving back.
00:35I love when I hear things like that from people who've been in the game for so long because
00:39the reality is it's about leaving a legacy.
00:42It's about making sure that long after I leave this planet that my impact has been felt.
00:46I want to make sure that my girls are able to say that there are no excuses, that there's
00:49someone who looks just like them who went out there, transformed their destiny, and made
00:53it happen with what they had.
00:55And I think it's also about not tying your identity, who you are, yourself, so much to
01:00your business so that when your business is doing like this, you're still good.
01:04You're grounded.
01:05You're okay.
01:06And making sure that you are yourself and your business is your business will help you kind
01:12of get through those challenging times.
01:14I absolutely agree.
01:15I think we always have to be ready.
01:18You always want it to be on your time.
01:21Yeah.
01:22Although I know sometimes that may not work that way.
01:24Yeah.
01:25But I think mentally we always, we should make sure we prepare for our time when I'm ready.
01:30I would just encourage anybody, it's difficult, but just constantly be in the state of being
01:36a part of the current.
01:37Yeah.
01:38You may not essentially know what the exit strategy is, but you have to make sure you'll
01:42never have an end.
01:43And there's a, there's actual tactical piece to it as well where your books need to be
01:49ready.
01:50Yes.
01:51You know, I used to keep a folder of all of our documents, all of the contracts, every
01:55single thing that has ever transpired across the course of the business.
01:59And that made it.
02:00So when a buyer came, we were, we had the materials that they needed and that was ready to go.
02:05And also it was important about how you build your business, because if you, if you want
02:09to have a business that you can pass on to your family, you're going to build that business
02:13in a different way than if you want to have a business that you can sell after four or
02:17five years.
