00:04I've got to talk to you about the 25th anniversary of the Essence Festival.
00:08Surely in 25 years you have been to the Essence Festival, yes?
00:11At least 50% of the time. Honestly, yes.
00:14Those are good odds. So, can you describe the experience for me?
00:18It really invites all of the sisters of all walks of life
00:22to come and see what we're doing present and for the future.
00:27And also, on top of that, they give us amazing music.
00:33Frankie, Beverly, and Mays, they're being honored this year
00:36because they have performed more than anyone else.
00:39They're a standard bearer there, and you'd think that,
00:42oh, each year it might get less. It gets better.
00:45They're amazing, and they know their audience, and they love us to pieces.
00:49So, that's great.
00:50And what about the role that New Orleans plays in all the fun?
00:53You know, New Orleans obviously has been through lots of ups and downs.
01:00Essence has been a stalwart and still remaining there
01:03regardless of what's happened around in the city.
01:06And I think it's helped the city so much.
01:10Many people say that the Essence Festival feels like home.
01:13Would you agree with that?
01:14It's almost too big for the venue at this point
01:17because there is a thunderous roar when you walk in
01:22and everyone is speaking at this level.
01:25Like a family reunion.
01:27It is like a family reunion, and everyone's trying to get their word in.
01:31And also, young entrepreneurs trying to show what they've created.
01:35It's just a wonderful mishmash of feminine, palcatrudinous, fabulosities.
01:42Wow, for those polysaladic words. I love that.
01:45You know, it's really a wonderful event. I love it.
01:50And every time I go, no, no, I'm not going to go.
01:52I've gone before. I end up there.
01:56We hope you end up there, too.
