00:00My name is Gannetta Gonaver. I own Meals by Gannetta restaurant and I've had it for 15 years.
00:10Gannetta, tell me what makes Ethiopian food unique. Food is very important in Ethiopia when you have
00:21birth in the family, death in the family, holidays. That's all we do. We just get around. Everything
00:28is eat, eat, eat. So food is really the epicenter of everything. Everything. I'm the only cook in this
00:36kitchen, believe it or not. That's crazy, I know. My son used to tell me, mom, your cooking needs to
00:42be duplicated. Teach somebody. I tried for the first seven years, but it don't work. But I'm happy
00:48doing it. I have incredible people. Sean is my lead server. Some people just come for him, really. I
00:56tell him you're taking it away from the food.
01:08So what are we going to be sampling here today? The traditional dora wood. Okay. So how do I
01:13start? So what you do is take a piece of ginger. Okay. You roll it up. Okay. And you can pick
01:19anything you want. You can pick two things, three things. They go very well together. I see. And then
01:24that's it. Okay. Come back. It's magical. Oh, thank God. In my country, actually, I'm supposed to, you know,
01:33the way we eat is we believe only animals eat for themselves. So I would do this. Got that chicken
01:40for you. I hope this is not too spicy. No. Oh, thank you. And then this is called gursha. So you never eat in
01:47Ethiopia for yourself. You feed each other. And then now in my country, if I give you gursha once,
01:55I have to give it to you again. Otherwise, we believe we fight. Seriously. Seriously.
02:02Really? And I don't want to fight with you yet. So you have to do it twice?
02:05You give gursha always at least twice. Okay.
02:08Okay. This is delicious. Thank you. It's just so intimate and romantic to just share a meal
02:16with the people you love. I love that. It's a nice thing. So it's a great place for a date night.
02:20It is. I have a customer, actually. It's funny. Maybe I shouldn't say that on camera. He brings them
02:27here to check if they are like, oh, I don't want to eat with my hand. What is this? It doesn't bring them
02:32back. So this is his restaurant. I really is. I knew I was going to open a restaurant someday. I
02:43always knew that. But I am very, very grateful. I have to tell you. I am just so happy. I love the
02:51food. I love your energy. Thank you. I adore you. I wish I lived here so I could come back. Thank you.
02:57Thank you so much.
