00:00Today the Exhibition Authority is proud to unveil in this iconic building a historical
00:16and civic experience that will be viewed by thousands of national, international,
00:23and local visitors alike as they enter and exit the convention center.
00:28I've been mentioned as being Dutch reincarnated and I said, you know, that's not a bad thing
00:38at all.
00:39It's really a badge of honor and I have worn that badge, staying focused truly on the leadership
00:47that has come before me and understanding my role as mayor to move this city forward.
00:53We're also celebrating the multiple generations of people, public, private, and beyond, who
01:00were part of building this facility in terms of what it means to present day New Orleans,
01:08what it meant in the past, and indeed what it means to the future.
01:12I wasn't there 25 years ago, but I know that Marc Morial took what was a one time idea to
01:23celebrate Essence and put his arms around the Essence brand and this Essence celebration and
01:34laid the foundation for this to become an annual event.
01:39Today, we're teaming up with the Urban League of Louisiana to make a very, very special announcement.
01:46Beginning in 2020, we will honor our namesake by establishing the Ernest N. Dutch Morial Award
01:54that will be awarded annually to a deserving small and emerging and minority-owned business.
