00:00So, Journey, thank you for joining us at Essence Fest today. We're so excited to have.
00:10I'm so excited to be here. It's my first time, so I'm just soaking it all in.
00:16Yes, it's so much. Is there anything you're, like, super excited to see during the festival?
00:21Oh, my gosh. You know, the music. You come to Essence for the music, right?
00:28I mean, I'm super excited to see Kendrick Lamar, and my boy Usher is playing tomorrow.
00:35So, you know, the music, NDR, I just ran into her, and I'm gawking over her.
00:41Oh, my gosh. She's so beautiful.
00:44She's amazing. She's amazing.
00:46So, first of all, love your hair. The curls, they are glorious.
00:52So, you're actually my hair crush.
00:54Oh, that's so sweet.
00:57Yes. So, tell me, is there anybody out there, a celebrity, that you have a hair crush on?
01:02I mean, I think we all have hair crushes on Beyonce.
01:07But, honestly, like, Solange's hair, the way she flips it and does so many different things with it,
01:14it's just always so glowy and shiny.
01:17I mean, she'd be giving me Diana rocks.
01:18Yes.
01:19All the time.
01:20So, I think solo, definitely.
01:23You know, here at Essence, we celebrate black women.
01:26We try to empower black women and inspire them.
01:29What do you love most about being a black woman?
01:32You know, I really love the legacy that we as black women have inherited.
01:37You know, from our mothers, from our grandmothers.
01:39We come from Queens.
01:41And that is one of the things that I take pride in.
01:45You know, my mom is such a strong, regal woman, you know, with six children, fierce, feminine, and strong.
01:53You know, and I love that we as black women are able to embody such complexities, you know.
01:59Like, it's impossible to define who we are as black women because we're so complex.
02:05We come in different shapes, different hues, different colors, different personalities.
02:09And it's that very complexity that I love, I appreciate, that I celebrate, that I'm in awe of.
02:17Now, speaking of that, we're very dynamic as black women.
02:20We have all these different sides.
02:22Do you have an alter ego?
02:24And if so, what's her name?
02:26Sometimes I do.
02:32And I sometimes have referred to her as Lady Diana.
02:36That's spicy. That's saucy. I love it.
02:39So tell me, I'm loving this red lip that you're wearing. It's gorgeous.
02:44Now, Lady Diana, what lipstick color would she be rocking?
02:48You know, she loves, like, a purple.
02:54Like, there's this purple that I have at home that I only wear once in a while.
02:59It's like a real rich, like, almost more so wine.
03:04Well, thank you so much, Journey, for joining us.
03:07We're very excited about you appearing here at Essence Fest, and I hope you enjoy yourselves.
03:11Yeah, I'm excited about our trailer for Underground showing.
03:14So you know what? Tell me a little bit about the show.
03:16Well, Underground, we're filming it here in Louisiana.
03:20It premieres in January. It's about the Underground Railroad.
03:23It's about all of the people that we haven't really heard stories about.
03:27These courageous men and women who are bold enough to run 600 miles sometimes, you know, with chasing dogs, being starved to death.
03:35Like, going up against crazy obstacles and circumstances, and yet they were able to achieve it.
03:42And so it's really these, you know, all of these stories that are uncovered, that we're uncovering, you know, with the Underground Railroad.
03:50We don't really hear a lot about, you know, the William Stills, the people who helped these people, you know, achieve such enormous, I mean, overcome such enormous obstacles, you know?
04:04And so I'm excited because really, you know, this show, I thought it was going to be one thing, and it turned into, like, some whole action kind of thing that we're going.
04:14I'm doing stunts.
04:15Oh, wow.
04:16Where, like, it's exhausting and exhilarating at the same time.
04:20So, I think that's just something that I've already witnessed.
04:21I'm sorry.
04:22I've never seen any of these sort of things that I was wondering.
04:23I mean, I mean to step back into the world.
04:24I've never seen the world before.
04:27So, I think, you know, in really it's not a way to do all this stuff.
04:28I went to the world, but I didn't think so.
04:29When I was a beginner to the world, I thought you could do that.
04:30I was in a little bit of a country and, like, I said, to the world.
04:33I was able to do all this stuff.
04:34I thought I didn't think so.
04:36I thought I was a little bit quite a bit of a time.
04:37I thought you would be a little bit more hour before.
04:38I was at the place of another country.
04:39But I thought I was never thinking.
