00:00Hi, Essence family. This is Yolanda Sanguini, entertainment editor at Essence.com.
00:08Welcome to Coffee Talk, your weekly dose of what's hot on Essence.com.
00:13We've been closely following the presidential race, and Super Tuesday just passed.
00:17So we took it to the streets of New York to find out what people are talking about when it comes to the candidates.
00:22So, Dionne, are you paying attention to the presidential race?
00:25Honestly, I'm not following it on television. I'm clear I'm voting for Obama, and I think everybody else is crazy.
00:31I just kind of follow some of the YouTube things and things on Twitter, but not watching the debates because I'm a diehard Obama fan.
00:39Some of the statements in terms of what they're thinking about women when you're talking about, well, Rush, clearly, with his statement about the law student
00:45and just reproductive rights, what they're thinking about the economy, and how they're blaming Obama for everything that's happened.
00:52So the fact that he's been president for almost one term, right, and all of a sudden he's responsible for everything that's happened in the preceding terms.
00:59No one else is responsible. There's just too much demonizing and pointing fingers, and the racism has been really evident, I think, as well.
01:07So, are you following the presidential race?
01:09I'm not following the Republicans.
01:11And why?
01:12Because I'm not interested in what their platform is at this particular time, and my intention is to re-elect President Obama.
01:19Well, right now, I, like, I'm not voting for him, but I think he's moving among all of them more higher, Mick Romney.
01:29I think he, out of the four of them, I think he had the better shot at bringing back the economic, you know, and said he used to run a business.
01:37Who are you voting for come November?
01:39I'm voting for Obama.
01:40Well, I'm definitely an Obama supporter.
01:42I feel like he's made a lot of progress in the economy, you know, with the jobs.
01:47The job situation has increased.
01:49It took a long time for us to get into the state that we're in, and I think that is wrong for people to expect that he was going to be able to turn things around so quickly.
01:58I believe that Obama is a favorite, and I think now, particularly, some of the problems that existed about a year ago with the economy has turned around.
02:08So Obama's initiatives for electronic medical records and all the healthcare initiatives, I think, are great, and we're starting to see the fruits of that now, where there are a lot more jobs than it was.
02:19Yeah.
02:20And if you had to choose one Republican candidate, who would you pick?
02:25Oh, my gosh.
02:26That would be so difficult.
02:27I have, I cannot stand for any of the things that they stand for right now.
02:33I don't agree with any of them, so that would be very, very difficult.
02:37I hope it doesn't come down to that.
02:39I'm not interested in none of them that's on there.
02:41Yeah?
02:42Yeah, I don't like who's on there.
02:43So you're obviously voting for Obama?
02:45Oh, definitely.
02:46That's my brother.
02:47Yeah.
02:48That's my big brother.
02:49Okay.
02:50You know?
02:51Not because, you know, okay, we're the same color, but it's what he stands for and what
02:55he's doing is what I like.
02:56So, Ernie, are you following the presidential race?
02:58Yes, I am.
02:59Yeah?
03:00And what about it has stood out for you so far?
03:01Sort of the craziness in the Republican primary.
03:04A lot of the candidates have really tacked far right, and there's just a lot of madness,
03:09I think, on that side of the campaign.
03:14We just had Super Tuesdays, and things are about to get really, really hot.
03:17What do you predict is going to happen in the next couple of months?
03:20Well, I guess Gingrich will probably drop out sooner rather than later.
03:26I think Romney's going to ultimately nab the nomination.
03:30I'll probably go voting for Obama.
