Transcript
00:00Hi Essence Family, this is Yolanda Sanguini, Entertainment Editor at Essence.com.
00:08Welcome to Coffee Talk, your weekly dose of what's hot on Essence.com.
00:13This week we spoke with R&B singer Anthony Hamilton.
00:16Anthony spoke to us about his latest album, Back to Love, his life and family,
00:21and collaborating with Kerry Hilson on the new album.
00:24Back to Love is titled that because I wanted to remind people what was important.
00:29You know, you spend a lot of time trying to achieve success, traveling, you know, just working and day to day.
00:36And you forget the important people like your mom, your brothers and sisters, giving them that quality time, your loved ones.
00:43And you just kind of want people to refocus their values.
00:47It's refreshing for those who love Anthony Hamilton.
00:50It's like, you know, oh man, he's wearing a new cologne and I like it.
00:54So it's one of those things, an extension of my personality, enjoying life, not so stressed out, not so heartbroken, not so serious, not so all the time.
01:09Life changes, your moods change, things around you change, you have to adapt to who you are and where you are at that moment.
01:20And musically I was able to do it and feel successful about it.
01:24Just kind of enjoying life, family, having new additions, have twin boys that bring a lot of joy.
01:33My wife and I, we tend to find a lot of joy in between changing pampers, in between the screams at night sometimes.
01:44You find peace and joy in extending a family.
01:48Like the song Mad, like, you know, we've been together eight years, been married six.
01:52I love her, but some days I don't want to, I don't want to be bothered.
01:57I want to sit here and not be bothered.
02:00So I speak about it, I'm mad.
02:02I'm mad at the way she loves me, I'm mad at the way she cares, I'm mad at the way she touched me and the way she wears her hair.
02:07But I'd be lying if I said it didn't mean a thing.
02:10I'd be lying if I said I didn't care.
02:12I'd be lying if I said I didn't love her because I'm still here.
02:15So those are parts of love that people are afraid to talk about.
02:18I'm not, I'm not.
02:20You get on my nerves, you get on my nerves.
02:22But I love you.
02:23And just, it's all back to love.
02:26It's enriched with Curtis Mayfield, the instrumentation around it.
02:33It's like here we are in the time of our life, both posing as strangers who never fell in love.
02:40And sometimes we get to a place where we get comfortable and act like it never happened,
02:44or we never intended for it to happen.
02:47So I want to snap you out of that.
02:49Like, let's get back.
02:50Don't bring me this far and act like you don't know me.
02:54Carrie Hilson came about.
02:56There was a song written by me, a young lady by the name of Christelle Nicole,
03:01who's an amazing writer, songwriter, amazing.
03:03I was working with Jerry Wander.
03:05Creatively and business, you tend to want to expand.
03:11You want to go outside the box.
03:13And Carrie was a nice, refreshing addition to my album.
03:18More mainstream.
03:19She's beautiful, talented, and she can really sing.
03:24I was like, minding my business.
03:27Wasn't thinking about.
03:28Striking up no conversation.
03:31Uh-uh.
03:32But she had those thick things in a roundabout.
03:35Like the devil said, boy, how's about a little temptation?
03:39Oh, no.
03:41She was so fine.
03:43Could not keep my eyes off her.
03:46Girl, it was critical, even biblical.
03:49Like, just like Delilah say.
03:52Woo, woo, woo, woo.
03:55Girl, you're so bad.
03:57You hear the gravel in there.
03:59That's it, girl.
04:00I'm going to get you.
04:02Hey, what's up?
04:03This is Anthony Hamilton, and you're watching Essence TV.
