ORAQUICK-EP2-2-WHY US_FINAL-SEE_LEARN
Transcript
00:00or quit did a study they asked african-american women you know why they weren't asking their men
00:18to get tested and the majority of us said it was because we didn't want to ruin the mood which if
00:25you're thinking about ruining the mood that means you're about to have sex which means it's a little
00:29late to be asking about testing at what point in a relationship do you think we should have that
00:34conversation i really think if this isn't someone you just met today and you're about to have sex with
00:39them i think that that needs to be a conversation very early on because some people out here hiv
00:44positive i mean the statistics are showing that sometimes you're going to run into a partner that
00:48is hiv positive they might tell you and they might not and if they tell you you have to decide at that
00:54point well do i like this person enough to continue the relationship you have to make a decision to
00:59live your life authentically to say you know what i'm not going to sleep with a man until i know
01:06what his status is i am not going to you know date someone who i think might be dating other women
01:14but i don't know you have to say it we know i know that this person doesn't have anything and that
01:21might be the reason that i stopped using condoms i personally think you should still keep using them
01:26until there's committed monogamy there because the reason our stds are so high is because we're
01:30partner sharing and i think that too many of us too many times women in relationships starting off
01:37interrelate when it comes to sex when it comes to talking about you know sexually transmitted diseases
01:42have you been tested things we just go with the flow we don't want to we don't want to cause a
01:48problem we don't want to stir things up i just want to be able to say i got a man we don't want to
01:53know you you ask your friend they'll say oh they've been dating this guy how long you guys been
01:56dating oh about four months well where does he work well i know he works in the business yeah
02:01where does he live well you know you're not i'm not 100 sure but i know he lives in such and such
02:07neighborhood we're not asking questions we're not we don't feel comfortable just asking whether or not
02:13he's willing to get tested for hiv because this is a big thing 65 of all new cases of hiv infection
02:19are in african-american women so what we really have to do is take a step back look at who we're
02:25having sex with take the precaution don't just ask have you gotten tested but let's test together
02:31so that to me that's one of my favorite things about orquick is the fact that it's very accessible
02:36you can get it 24 hours a day at any of your local pharmacists pharmacies and you know it's the
02:42perfect way to kind of break the ice because i don't believe that you need to just ask someone if
02:46you've been tested you need to see the results so the best thing is to kind of test together so you
02:50can go make that investment um and make sure that you're safe so is it fair to say that if he's not
02:58picking up the phone he's not making time to see you he's not really that interested in a relationship
03:02i think those are very obvious signs you would think so
