Simone Jordan talks black owned business are the core of our business
Transcript
00:00Speaking of Black-owned businesses, there's been a huge movement to support and shop Black-owned
00:05businesses. Simone, why do you think that it's so important and what is Shea Moisture doing to
00:10support, you know, that particular movement of shopping Black-owned? Yeah, so we, as AC just
00:17mentioned, this, supporting Black-owned businesses, it, we've been doing it since the business was
00:23founded. And it's really near and dear to us because we once was a Black-owned business. And
00:30now Unilever acquiring it, it maintains that legacy. It's allowing us to continue our commitment
00:37to Black-owned businesses. And what's really important to note here is that they've been on
00:42the front lines even before. So now we're introducing a social justice coalition where we will still look
00:50at entrepreneurs and Black-owned businesses as those who are on the front line fighting for
00:54injustices. And, you know, we've always recognized this. So in any funding that we have put forth,
01:02whether it's been for women of color entrepreneurs, whether it's for small minority businesses,
01:06specifically when we launched it for COVID-19, we know that they're going out there and whether
01:12they are cash-strapped, whether they need to save their money for their own families, they're still
01:18putting it in their communities. So for us, Black-owned businesses are the core of our community.
01:23They are who are standing up, ensuring that their communities are served, that where we are
01:29disproportionately seeing numbers of Black people affected by disease, by injustice, by food, lack
01:36of food and nutrition, our businesses are stepping up. So it's very important for us, for us to invest in
01:43Black-owned businesses at this time, specifically where, you know, if they're not invested in, they could go away
01:50permanently.
