00:00Super Bowl 60. It is game week. Both teams arrived yesterday in Santa Clara slash San Francisco.
00:06One team's going to practice, I think, at San Jose. The other in Palo Alto, which is the campus for the Stanford Cardinal.
00:12That is Seattle. And it is New England here, Joe. The opening line a week ago for the Super Bowl was a four and a half point spread at most outlets.
00:20Today, it still sits at most outlets at four and a half. The total in this game, which opened up at 46 and a half, now sits at 45 and a half.
00:29Drake May last week, banged up shoulder illness here. We'll get those official practice reports once again this week, Joe.
00:34But the spread line for you on the side of the total for Super Bowl 60 is what?
00:39Well, I mean, this is the week, Donnie, where we're going to really start to see the volume of bets start to come in.
00:46Now, whether or not that will move the side one way or the other remains to be seen.
00:52We've seen and heard reports of a couple of, you know, six and seven figure bets coming in on one side or the other.
00:58But we haven't seen a ton of movement. Four and a half, five is likely what we're going to get.
01:04There are some thoughts that the amount of money coming in this week could push this a little closer because it's clear that Seattle is the public side and will continue to be.
01:14But we haven't seen it. What we have seen is, interestingly enough, move to the under here, Donnie.
01:21The consistent nature of the betting to the under has driven this thing down to 45, 45 and a half.
01:27But we all know the public this week, nobody's betting an under in the Super Bowl, Donnie.
01:31The public is coming to bet the over. Is there any value in taking the over now?
01:38Well, it might be if that's where you're leaning.
01:40I would bet it sooner rather than later, because by the time we get to kick at 45, 45 and a half could very well be 46 and a half, 47.
01:49Now, I'm feeling the over in this game. We'll see how it plays out this week.

01:59Super Bowl 60 will take place this Sunday, 630 p.m.

02:11But other news and notes around the NFL that you need to know includes the Vikings.
02:15They fired their general manager. Typically, this happens right after the season.
02:18This one was delayed.
02:19Kweisi Adolfo Menso is out of a job and you're paid on what you've done for your organization.
02:25Four straight horrendous drafts and then the decision to let Sam Darnold walk, who probably will win a Super Bowl,
02:32only to find out J.J. McCarthy, who drafted, might not be a franchise quarterback after all.

02:41Yeah, and it's not so much that he's out of the job.
02:44I think it's the timing, Donnie, that got everyone by surprise.
02:48I mean, this is not very strange.
02:52They were holding meetings.
02:53He's very liked in the building.
02:56He had just had meetings with agents of the players.
03:00Like, the whole timing of this was very strange.
03:03But the reality is, I mean, he's been there long enough now where you have an idea of the track record.
03:09I mean, over 20 draft picks that he has oversaw.
03:13And only three or four of them, Donnie, are legitimate starters in the NFL.
03:17So, you can't keep swinging and missing in the draft and think that everything is going to be okay.
03:24So, it's not so much that he was fired, but it's just that they waited this long to fire him.
03:30And then the find-out tour and training camp took two weeks off with the birth of his child here.
03:35Didn't go over well with the organization.
03:37And he finds himself on the outside looking in.
03:38Also, he was one of those general managers, very forward-thinking, where it wasn't really like a football background.
03:44It's more of an analytical background.
03:45Just didn't work out.
03:46And I did find it funny.
03:47I don't know if it's true or not, where he drafted just based on PFF and what their draft rankings were at this point.
03:53He had four straight really bad drafts.
03:55You can't escape that.
03:56It's like an NFL coach.
03:57When you lose, you're going to get fired.
03:58Same thing as a general manager.
04:00You're hired to be fired if things aren't going the right direction.
04:02And they weren't going the right direction in Minnesota.
04:04How about the right direction for the NFL and ESPN?

04:46Even though you're not going to call plays, Sean McVay will, you will be a head coach.
04:50Look at the four offensive coordinators during his tenure as head coach.

04:55Kevin O'Connell, head coach.

05:21And listen, I like the job, you know, long term.
05:24But as long as ownership gives them an opportunity to be able to get something done, they got to figure out what to do with Kyla Murray.
05:32Otherwise, he'll be back with LaFleur in a couple of years here, and that'll be the end of that.

05:41Arizona hired the other LaFleur, not the Green Bay head coach.
05:44His brother is now going to take over the reins of the Arizona Cardinals.
05:47That seems like a tough job, because as Joe pointed out at the start, we all know who is going to be your quarterback,
05:51and you're working for one of the worst ownership groups in the sport.

07:08Fill in some offensive and defensive coordinators, some general managers.
07:11And away we go into the official off-season, which starts the minute Super Bowl 60 is over.

07:20It is Sunday at 630 to start all the pomp, circumstance, and pageantry surrounding it,
07:25which includes the commercials, which you all enjoy, and Bad Bunny, who's going to perform at halftime here.
07:31It's Seattle and it's New England.
07:32It's Sam Darnold versus Drake May.
07:33The home team is actually New England.
07:35The road team, technically, is Seattle.
07:38If we look at those lines that we've been looking at from last week till this week,
07:41still sitting at 4.5 as a side and favorite for the Seattle Seahawks in a total that comes in at 45.5.
07:48So, Joe, we'll start there at this point.
07:49I do think Seattle's the better team.
07:51Still weighing my options on the side.

07:53I do think this game does inch to the over as opposed to the under.
07:57But also, the key ingredient is, where are these lines going to move when all that big money comes in this week
08:03from both sharp sides and also from public sides?

08:16He is frozen right now just like this line has been for the past week and a half.

08:28Sometimes we are going to overcompensate for what we want to think is going to take place.
08:32Like, for me, I just wish the past couple weeks I knew Sam Darnold was 100% healthy
08:37because I would have just been riding Seattle all the way through.
08:40Hammered the 49ers and then picked up the win and cover against the Los Angeles Rams.
08:44Now we're led to believe after two weeks from that previous injury
08:47and then two more weeks, including the bye week to the Super Bowl,
08:50he should be just fine.
08:51And I'm counting on that because I do think Seattle's the better defense
08:53and the better offense overall and should be able to win this football game.
08:57But it's not about winning the football game.
08:58It's about covering a spread at minus four and a half.
09:02But also understand this from a New England Patriots side and perspective.
09:05Drake May, last time we saw him in the snow in Denver, what actually happened?
09:11Yeah, goes down with a shoulder injury, was able to finish that football game.
09:15Then a little bit lackluster in practice this week, trying to take it easy.
09:18He says he'll be fine.
09:19Vrabel says he'll be fine.
09:21Then also, you get a sickness at the end of the week,
09:24which causes him to miss some practice time as well.
09:26So sickness coming into Super Bowl week, which I know a little bit about that.
09:29Not that I played in the Super Bowl, but man, how was sick a week and a half ago
09:32and still feeling the after effects of that.
09:35Does that linger around?
09:36And also, we're taking a look at the total in this football game,
09:40sitting now at 45 and a half.
09:42A lot of people will say, and maybe rightfully so,
09:44look at the Seattle Seahawks in this game.
09:47Very good offense, yes, but an elite defense.
09:49Two weeks to prepare for your opponent, that should make some sense.
09:52Also understand this.
09:53Hey, Donnie, did you see what New England's been doing in the playoffs here?
09:55The offense doesn't look so good.
09:57You playing elite defense is number one, which Seattle is,
10:00but also number two, under circumstances like heavy rains
10:03where you can't actually hold the football,
10:05or how about a heavy snowstorm where you can't actually see the football,
10:09let alone make plays downfield.
10:11They won those football games.
10:13They wound up in the Super Bowl, and we'll see what makes sense.
10:16But for me, I look at both of these quarterbacks.
10:18I'm trusting to be healthy.
10:19They should be able to move the football,
10:20and we're not asking for 55 and a half points to go over.
10:24It's 45 and a half.
10:26Now, let's take a look at some things that I thoroughly enjoy.
10:28I've been to a couple Super Bowls in the past,
10:30and every time you go to the media center,
10:31they have all the logos and all the banners that are hanging there,
10:35and you can take a look at.
10:36The one thing I don't understand, even though I do,
10:39yes, Roman numbers, Roman numerals, I should say, are pretty cool.
10:43But having said that, when you look at some of these logos on the screen,
10:46Super Bowl XXII, of course, we know that's 22.
10:49But as we start getting later, even in the Eagles Super Bowl years,
10:52like, LV, XLV1, XLV111, like, can we just have the numbers at this point right now?
10:59Like, this is Super Bowl 60.
11:01Super Bowl with a 6 and a 0 makes the most sense.
11:04But if you are looking at some of those iconic logos,
11:07you see where the NFL has shifted here.
11:09Earlier in it, spelling out the word Super Bowl, keeping it simple at this point.
11:13Then they really got into the Roman numerals,
11:15where you see some of those Super Bowls and say,
11:17I don't actually know what year that was.
11:19Super Bowl XXX out there in Phoenix, Super Bowl XX, which is Super Bowl XX there,
11:23and I believe Super Bowl XX.
11:24Was it Super Bowl XX? I don't think so.
11:26What was the Bears and the Patriots at that one?
11:28That's one of the more memorable Super Bowls for me growing up,
11:30was the first one that I watched from start to finish,
11:33as the Chicago Bears and William Refrigerer-Perry
11:35absolutely crushed the New England Patriots.
11:38But you know what I do like about the NFL, to be honest?
11:41If we look at the recent years here,
11:43the incorporation of the actual Lombardi trophy,
11:47as opposed to just the Roman numerals,
11:49Now, granted, they have them, but do you see how they incorporated them in?
11:52It looks like, what, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15,
11:57the last 16 Super Bowls, Joe.
11:59They've incorporated the Lombardi trophy into the logo,
12:03and I kind of appreciate that.
12:06Listen, you got to love that they're nice enough
12:09to keep some tradition going on here, Donnie, right?
12:12Yeah.
12:12Because it feels like there's conspiracy theories all over the place
12:16when it comes to that logo each and every year.
12:18Kind of like the Simpsons, right?
12:20That they knew this was coming, and look at this.
12:23It's all a projection.
12:25Yeah, no, it's just a logo,
12:26and they have figured out how to keep it somewhat traditional over the years.
12:31Now, let me ask you this question, Joe.
12:32We always know high-speed internet travels pretty quickly,
12:34but in the state of Florida, when it gets a little cooler,
12:36does it tend to freeze up, like, at that point right now?
12:38Like, what happened down there?
12:40Did you hit with a blast of cold air?
12:41It's either that, Donnie, or we just got hit with a bomb
12:47because the level of the explosion just rocked the studio here.
12:51So, not sure what's going on out there, but we're back.

13:15This is Tulane Stadium, January 16th, 1972.
13:18We don't like cold-weather Super Bowls, man.
13:2039, a kickoff, and the Dolphins actually played well.
13:23That's pretty impressive.

13:54Still don't know exactly what that weather is going to be like for Sunday.
13:58And, by the way, I've never played in temperatures that cold,

14:02Even the game, I think it was the AFC Championship game,
14:04San Diego and Cincinnati played in, like, conditions that you should not be out there
14:09and it's not worth risking your life.
14:11If I was a player, like, it's so important to go to the Super Bowl
14:13and win a championship.
14:14I don't even know, Joe, if I would even care about that midway through the game.
14:17Like, I'd be so cold.
14:17Like, I'll be fine with a loss.
14:19I just want to get out of town.
14:20I just can't take it anymore at this point.
14:22But talking about Joe getting out of town,

14:40Listen, this is beyond my wildest dreams for the fans

14:48I said all along, if our players played up to the standard that you guys expected

15:32but it feels like the Patriots, like, two years ago were in the Super Bowl.
15:35We're so used to them making it.
15:36When you hear seven years, it doesn't even compute.
15:38Like, the Patriots were in the Super Bowl seven years because for a while it was every year,
15:42every other year the Patriots were in it every single time,
15:45and now they're back and seeing as an underdog to see if they can complete that there.
15:49The quarterback battle is going to be interesting, Joe.
15:51We're talking about here the difference between Drake May, a little bit of an illness,
15:54a little bit of a shoulder injury, oblique injury for Sam Darnold.
15:57Both should be fine for Super Bowl Sunday.
15:59You take a look at Drake May, excuse me, 220 and a half as his passing prop,
16:04and also Darnold, 228 and a half as his passing prop.
16:08Yeah, I mean, listen, I don't think health is an issue at all.
16:13I don't think it's going to be for Sam Darnold.
16:15I don't think it's going to be Drake May.
16:16I would not be betting thinking that they are hampered in any way, shape, or form.
16:21So I would just assume they are more than well enough to be able to run the ball,
16:27throw the ball.
16:28They're going to be just fine in this game.

17:08You know, not many long shots I'm taking.
17:11I am laying some juice in some spots, but I'm ready to discuss it all.
17:15Let's see if we can get some good weather, which is the anticipation.
17:18Maybe a clean surface where nobody's slipping around,
17:20and we get a good football game.
17:21Sam Darnold and Drake May.
17:22Let's start here first, Tom, because as we overanalyze like we will,
17:26you saw the injury to Sam Darnold, or excuse me, the injury to Drake May.
17:29We'll start here.
17:30That shoulder, we don't know how serious it is.
17:32Illness at the end of the week.
17:33He's probably going to be limited here.
17:34We'll get those full practice reports this week.
17:36And then also, Sam Darnold, the oblique injury,
17:38which he had, again, wrapped up in the NFC Championship game.
17:41But if that means he's injured and he threw for 350 close yards and three touchdowns here,
17:46how injured he's going to be for the Super Bowl, whether he's hurt or not.
17:49Give me a breakdown of the quarterbacks and the anticipation for this game coming up this weekend.
17:53As of now, I'm not worried about either of them.
17:56You know, seeing Drake May limited a week before the game doesn't concern me.
18:00I assume every player is dealing with something at this point.
18:04You know, Drake May is limited on Thursday or Friday of this week.
18:07I think that's a very different story compared to being a week out.
18:10You know, I know a lot of people are just waiting for the other shoe to drop for Sam Darnold, so to speak.
18:14But he keeps putting up these good performances like, oh, but it's Sam Darnold.
18:17Oh, but it's Sam Darnold.
18:18But, oh, they're the numbers.
18:19You know, he's going to, you know, he's going to throw more in seven.
18:21Like, well, it hasn't happened yet.
18:23And maybe he's gotten past that.
18:24You know, I'm not willing to back Seattle at minus four and a half.
18:29I think they win the game, but I'm not going to lay it.
18:31I think Drake May just has to be the best he's been in literally over a month.
18:35He hasn't been great in the playoffs.
18:37Last week was terrible.
18:38I know he threw some touchdowns against the Texans.
18:40That's because it was really just the matter of the game, how it unfolded.
18:43But five sacks a game is just not acceptable and we'll lose them the game if that happens again.
18:50So who's more likely to throw the INT here?
18:53Or do you just bet them both?
18:54So I think Drake May's at a higher probability to throw an interception.
19:01The odds suggest that he's minus 138 to Sam Darnold at minus 128.
19:04But I actually bet both teams to record an interception at plus 200.
19:09If I had to pick one, it would be Drake May.
19:11I think he'll be dropping back more.
19:13He'll have to throw the ball just giving at a higher risk to throw.
19:16So I think you can play that straight up at minus 138.
19:18But I also like both teams to record an interception at plus 200.
19:21How are we feeling about the total in this game, Tom?
19:2445 and a half as it sits right now.
19:26We'll see where it gets up to game time.
19:27I'm more trending towards the over in this game.
19:30Two weeks to prepare.
19:31Get a little bit healthy at the quarterback spot.
19:32Also New England not playing in snowstorms or rainstorms here.
19:35How are we feeling about the total in this one?
19:38This is a little bit of a cop-out, but if it was 44, I would love the over.
19:4244 and a half, I would be my spot.
19:45And frankly, I'm expecting it to move up.
19:47I'm expecting as the week goes on to see more and more public money.
19:50So if you like the over, I would bet it now.
19:53If you like the under, I actually think that there's obviously a time to wait.
19:56And then you wait for Friday, Saturday when that public money gets there.
20:00Then you bet the under.
20:01I think we're looking at a 24-20, 24-21, maybe 27-20 type of final.
20:07I think Seattle wins.
20:08If they cover, it's not going to be by much.
20:09And it may just be a late field goal pushing them from 24 to 27.
20:14Yeah.
20:14You know, both these teams have two offensive coordinators that have had a ton of success.
20:21We know the early part of the game is the scripted portion here.
20:25First quarter over, total points here?
20:27Are we expecting both offenses to start the game on fire, or what are we thinking?
20:31I would lean towards under if I had to choose.
20:36I think these teams are going to play super close to the vest.
20:38If they get to midfield, I don't think that they'll be going forward on fourth down, at least at the early portion of the game.
20:44I think if they get in field goal range, I think both teams will lean towards taking a field goal rather than going forward on fourth down.
20:51So to me, that would lean under.
20:53And frankly, I think the game will start punt-punt.
20:55I think the teams pick up a first down and then they punt.
20:59It's not going to be a high-flying.
21:00I think things will pick up as the game goes on, but it's going to be a slow start.
