01:32Dennis hello you guys hear me how y'all doing today all right I do need it to be a little bit louder you
01:54know I love energy I feed off of it how are we doing today let's go all right so for those who
02:02missed my introduction earlier I am the co-creator of essence Girls United and our franchise partner in
02:09prime is really about first of all how many people are here with their sisters how about your best friend
02:16or your line sister okay so this conversation is all about how you and your sister or your partner in
02:25prime really level up together you know we hear about how we should be networking with our peers and how we
02:32should really be helping you know each other and helping our sisters and that's what this conversation is
02:37about how you guys together can help each other get to the next level so Sophia yes I am Sophia or
02:45Dennis I go by many names nicknames also co-founder of Essences Girls United I'm super excited to be here
02:52gracing the stage with my sister and some awesome sisters that are going to join us shortly I'm so
02:59excited to be here and I think we should we should start to talk a little bit about sisterhood and
03:06business and what it really means to build something with people in your family and the people that you
03:10care the most about yeah so as Sophia mentioned sister sister sister sister is what this is about
03:17to be so we are going to check in with two more sisters who are also happen to be successful
03:22entrepreneurs and content creators so not only do they have fun together but they also get to the bag
03:29together and I got to tell you we are super super excited to have these specific sisters with us today
03:34so drum roll please join us in welcoming founder and CEO of forever unbothered streetwear brand Jody Woods
03:48and founder and CEO of Woods by Jordan Jordan Woods give it up for the Woods sisters let's give it up for
03:59look at these outfits y'all look look at this look at the fashion amazing I heard we were twirling so I
04:04want I want you guys to do a little a little something a little twirl a twirl a twirl oh
04:10yes Fitz okay yes we are so excited to have you guys here um when you guys first sat down you look you
04:25were like oh my god you guys look so much alike to Rochelle and I and I was like wait you guys look so
04:29much alike it's so crazy like looking so much alike so many years apart from each other yeah and you
04:35guys are 10 years apart right you still seem to be very very close um we're actually a little bit
04:41closer in age than you than you guys we're about four or five years apart but I would definitely love
04:46to know a little bit about how your relationship growing up together worked out and how you were
04:52able to translate that into learning from each other and building businesses and developing your
04:57career goals as young women yeah I feel like starting out you know an almost 10 year age gap
05:02there's a lot of separation um and then as you get older you get closer and the gap gets less and less
05:09and then you know once she's 21 it's gonna feel like she's the same age yeah hopefully I'm sorry I feel
05:15like I can't adapt with the younger generation oh my gosh this younger generation I'm the oldest so it's
05:20like I'm looking at her and I'm like what are you talking about like what's going on what word is that
05:25I love having Jordan because like I realize now I'm going through the same issue she was going
05:30through at my age so she's really the blueprint for me she always gives me good advice that's
05:35awesome that's awesome do I give you great advice Sophia I think so I think so I think also like
05:40we're a little bit closer so I think that you know and I'm also somebody who I don't know I like
05:46kind of like march to the beat of my own drum so I feel like the things that I'm like yeah the things
05:51that I'm like interested in or things that I'm going through are like they're just a little bit
05:55different yeah I think it's because I think I'm a little bit more reserved and you're more like
06:00outgoing but then at some point it flips I don't know if you guys like kind of take on this I feel
06:04like it just depends on the day yeah now Jodi's the one like pulling me outside before I was like
06:09I'm out I'm not home I'm doing whatever now I'm like a homebody and she's like let's go out
06:15something lame I'm like okay fine I'll do it just for you I love it so as sisters who grew up
06:21together what are the earliest life lessons you remember learning that influenced the way you guys
06:26approach your careers and your goals and just being young women today um I think that
06:32it's hard because of the age gap so I get to experience a lot of things first and kind of give
06:38her that life advice like okay this was my experience but as an older sister I don't want to
06:43I'm not your parent you know yeah I want to give you advice but not in a way like don't do this or
06:48I'm judging you I just want to give you loving advice and just in general you should when someone
06:53comes to you you should give them the ability to make their own decisions but just give them your
06:58experience and hopefully they can learn from that rather than giving them controlling advice
07:03telling them not to do something because I know when I was younger when someone would tell me don't
07:07do this I'm going to do that yeah like honestly I'm the opposite if Jordan tells me not to do it
07:12I'm not doing it because she's always right she always ends up being right every time I go against
07:16her word yeah Sophia will just not listen to me she'll be like yeah okay whatever and I'll be like
07:23oh damn all right I also don't think that I don't think enough before I act to even ask an opinion of
07:29whether or not I should do something I just tend to already be in the motion of doing it before I even
07:33think oh maybe I should have asked if this was the right thing to do or not sometimes it be like
07:37that and you have to do that because everything's a learning experience yes that's just part of your
07:41joining us I'm a trial and error I feel like I never learned something or got stronger or wiser
07:47by making the right decision like I had to mess up to learn what not to do yeah I think sometimes
07:53you learn so much from learning what not to do as opposed to learning what to do because if you
07:58learn what to do then you know you just know how to do something you never learn why something doesn't
08:02work out or why doing a certain thing doesn't lead to the result that you want so sometimes learning
08:07what not to do can really enrich you and give you a lot of the tools that you need to be
08:11successful right I just take everything as a learning experience yeah and that was one of
08:16the biggest lessons like learning and like even seeing like other siblings and whatnot and even
08:21like communities of people that were really strong right and had strong relationships with their friends
08:27was they would know information and be able to like pass it on to like their brothers and like
08:32younger grades or sisters in their younger grades and so they would go like even like college
08:36applications right like you don't know until like you know somebody else has done it before you or
08:42when you're talking and you're having something and you're trying to figure something out you don't
08:46know unless somebody else has gone through it or experienced it so that's why I think like sisterhood
08:51is just so important and so needed um and I think it's something that doesn't get talked about we talk
08:57about relationships so much but the relationships that are your sisterly relationships I think are the most
09:02valuable because those are forever yeah in life I feel like being teachable is everything like
09:07thinking that you know it all is where you mess up yes yeah absolutely yeah I don't know what I do
09:12without my sisters sisters also don't mean blood it could be your friends your peers whoever but like
09:18sisterhood is so important and the older I get I'm like okay you can have a million friends you go out
09:24and party with but when shit gets tough who's really there for you who's showing up those are your
09:29sisters those are your peers and it takes a village so you can't do anything really by yourself as
09:35much as you want to be independent and like be like I did this on my own you can only go so far by
09:41yourself that's that's very very true if you want to go if you want to go fast go alone if you want to
09:46go far go with somebody else it takes a village absolutely so speaking of it taking a village I'm sure
09:54growing up and using social media and being content creators you have definitely had moments in which
10:00you know you're online and you're promoting different products and you've built up an online
10:05persona I'm sure there have been different instances in which you've had to find who you are as an
10:11individual and determine what your identity is especially for you sorry especially for you jody being
10:17younger how have you been able to build a community online while still being very strong within your
10:23individual identity um honestly I really am just myself and I feel like that's why people love me
10:28like even though everyone's like you and jordan look the same everyone knows my personality is like
10:34very bold and we're very different we're the same but different at the same time so really just be
10:38yourself I don't let people talk fear into my plans you know yeah yeah I feel like we're we're like the
10:46same across the table yeah no that's like an older sister thing I don't know yeah because I think like
10:53me and Sophia like she's definitely more out there I'm like more reserved like I think it was somebody
10:59was just telling me like if Sophia had a little bit more of you and if you had a little bit more Sophia
11:03that would just make all the difference and I was like you know what I never thought of it like
11:08that but it's kind of it's all about the balance but it's the end to the end yes exactly and like
11:12you said individual but the same yeah no I feel like people really struggle with identity though
11:18it's okay to not be like so sure of yourself that sometimes like I feel like as human beings we're
11:24always trying to figure out who we are where we belong um and try to figure out where we're going
11:30with our life because even me I feel like I have a plan and when you make plans God laughs
11:35so things always change but I always tell myself life doesn't happen to you it happens for you yes
11:43yeah I feel like what really keeps us going is like knowing that our plan is already written
11:48so everything that's a part of the journey it's happening for a reason I love it so you both have
11:54your own clothing lines so they're you both have them but they're also very different can you tell us
12:00a little bit about your lines how you each came up with them and how you guys also support each other
12:04as entrepreneurs um I'm really like the streetwear girly yes I dress girly but on the day today I
12:11really dress like a boy this bit is fire I was about to say this tie is amazing yeah it's kind of
12:17like a boy type of vibe girly to twist you know yeah um but I love streetwear that's like my favorite
12:24thing ever so I just wanted to make something that made people feel comfortable that was cozy that
12:29fly and I have a lot more coming I'm excited for people to see it yeah for me I feel like I was in
12:37my awkward stage up until maybe a couple years ago um I grew up always being kind of a bigger girl not
12:44really being able to wear the trendy cute clothes finding clothes that fit me properly at the quality
12:50and styles that I wanted and so that's a lot of my inspiration building my brand is just making
12:56quality clothing affordable pricing but very inclusive for all for all body types whether
13:02you're small large somewhere in between um I just want to cater to you know those people out there
13:08where they feel like they can't find that piece and I really focus on the quality and the fit so it
13:14takes me a lot of time I'm getting impatient um but that was really where I found my inspiration
13:20and starting my brand that's so cool those dresses hit different I don't know what she put in them
13:24but they snatch you it's like sisterhood of the traveling dress it looks bomb on everyone yeah I
13:30feel like we just like making things that everyone could wear and everyone could feel comfortable and
13:34beautiful in yeah so this this is not a question on the note cards but when we were backstage I saw you
13:41guys interacting with your mom and talking about how you know you grew up being in different business
13:45meetings and how she's really been you know such a pillar for you know this entrepreneurial mindset
13:50that both of you guys have I would love to know how growing up with such a strong mother in such
13:56an amazing industry has influenced both of you guys in your decisions to start your brands
14:01um honestly our mother's like everything to us we bring her everywhere she's always involved and she's
14:07just so strong and from super super young she was bringing me to meetings like I just admire her work
14:14ethic and I always consider her in every decision that I make um and she gives us a lot of good
14:20advice too yeah I feel like we've been through so many phases in her life but somehow she always
14:25figures it out sometimes I'm like I don't know how you pulled this off but you did and so her resilience
14:30is really um admirable and I feel like you have to have resilience in this industry and just in
14:37anything that you do um so seeing someone just push through adversity or anything that may come
14:42was really inspiring to me and honestly through everything I've gone through in my life I don't
14:46know what I would do without my mom my family like yeah they're probably the reason I'm still here
14:50don't let anyone play with her
14:52we love your mom by the way
14:56she don't let anyone play with us and she don't let anyone play with her and that's the reason we
15:03are the way we are today I love that but everyone thinks she's our sister
15:06do you want to come up on stage
15:09we'll do that next year same time same place next year
15:18yes and moms are so important so you know one thing that my mom always told us was
15:29at the end of the day no matter what the only person that you will have is your sister so
15:35what are some things that your mom did to like we know that you guys probably when you were little
15:39got into like you know got into a little bit like I know me and Sophia still kind of get into it a
15:43little bit but what did she instill in you guys that you know really helped you guys also see each
15:48other whether you guys had differences or anything I mean funny thing is Jordan and I never argue
15:53like we really rarely ever argue like maybe we'll argue about little things if I like stole a shirt
16:00or something but if I ask her she's like like my favorite yeah it'll always be her favorite thing
16:05we always like the same things but we never really argue with each other I feel like we just understand
16:13each other because we're so alike yeah and we've been through so much as a family so at this point
16:19we just kind of know how to operate when each other are going through things like we know when
16:24to leave each other alone we know when to be there for each other I feel like I'm more of the dramatic
16:29sister and Jordan always calms me down she's like Jodi it's okay you'll be fine like I don't know what
16:35I would do without her oh I'm gonna cry yeah no I feel like we when we were younger I think the biggest
16:41argument would be like she wants to sleep in my bed with me or something yep like no I need my space
16:46like other than that we are like she said so different but so similar I feel like
16:51I always try to think of what that other person is going through and normally nothing is ever personal
16:57like just in any situation we all take things so personal and at the end of the day everyone's
17:03battling with something within themselves yeah so just try to like give people grace give them space
17:09yeah what what I admire about Jordan is she's very selfless she looks at things from many perspectives
17:16and she really taught me that because in life a lot of times I feel like people are self-projecting
17:22just how they feel inside so you can't even take things personal absolutely 100% agree and I think
17:28at this current state of the world the greatest gift that you can you can give somebody is grace
17:34like sometimes people are just going through it they need a moment for sure and acting out of
17:39character because of what they're going through absolutely Sophie I have a question for you who's the
17:43most dramatic out of us okay so we have two we have two other sisters we have one older one and a
17:49younger one who's actually 10 years younger than me um I would say maybe Julian but I mean out of
17:56us oh out of us too okay I would say I think it's her but am I dramatic I think so
18:03maybe I'm dramatic I think I'm just like a very expressive person like I talk with my hands and
18:10I talk loud and I talk non-stop and I just don't shut up so I think I'm like I'm dramatic about
18:16anything just because everything excites me no honestly me too like sometimes it'll be my tone and
18:21Jordan will be like Jody calm down like okay I'm like why do you have an attitude she's like I don't
18:26that's how I talk I'm like okay whatever so me and my sister actually built Girls United together
18:34and the brand so it's been great working with each other and like learning each other's working styles
18:39has been you know we've come through it and I think I know her strengths and her weaknesses and she knows
18:46my strengths and my weaknesses and we balance out each other so well and that's what has allowed us to
18:51continue to build and work on what we're working so what was the last project you guys worked on
18:56together and and what was it like oh what was the last project we worked on together the last night
19:03we accepted an award together congratulations okay what was the award my sister's keeper award oh
19:10that's a great award my sister do yeah yeah it was very surreal for us because Jordan and I really just
19:16are ourselves so it's so cool like getting to win an award for just being sisters and being us and
19:22putting hard work in like that's so amazing I feel like people organically are like oh they do so much
19:28business together because we're always together we're both working individually a lot but we have
19:33a lot of things we're working on behind the scenes collectively um so I feel like we haven't really
19:38necessarily started any businesses together but we both see each other in action um and we're very
19:45involved in what each other are doing like we're always asking each other for advice
19:49yeah on every project because you guys just did like a photo shoot together the fire night was that
19:54for Halloween shoot it was yeah we just wanted to do something fun I feel like we never do like
20:00that many photo shoots together so that was super cool speaking of fun and once again I'm not
20:07reading off the question cards because I'm a little bit rebellious to see a wild card right here
20:12she's the dramatic one I would love to know if you guys could give us and the audience maybe your
20:18top three beauty tricks or hacks or life tricks or hacks just things that you've been really enjoying
20:23recently um one obviously the Jodi Woods mac lip combo go buy it pull out your phone out it
20:30um oh I'm trying to think of another one I feel like Jodi's more of a glam girl I'm more of like a
20:41soft glam girl but you're still soft glam yeah she's just a little bit more edgy um you couldn't tell by
20:47today's look though um I don't know I feel like my one of my holy grail products is aquaphor I'm like
20:56I'm getting that's one of the ones that's chopped lips elbows fake whatever any little ash just
21:02yeah season for aquaphor it's just aquaphor is is everything yeah one thing I really can't live
21:07without is bronzer wrong I love it no I love looking nice and tan especially because I get very pale in
21:14the winter like I can't do my makeup without bronzer and I really like um cream highlighter
21:19actually I love cream just for that more like skin effect what else what else are my beauty trends
21:27right now I don't know I'm on this like hair journey because I bleached my hair and so I'm trying to
21:33figure out what I'm gonna do with it right now um so if any of you in the crowd have any advice on
21:38how I can grow my hair let me know the secrets yeah what's like a hairstyle that you're really
21:43liking right now honestly these braids oh those I love I got addicted to wigs when we went to fashion
21:49week I never do wigs um but I'm so over the glue I just hate that and when I like like the natural
21:55look I like my edges so I'm just on my braid natural vibe right now I think I'm gonna keep
22:00you can never go wrong with braids but Jordan always makes fun of me because I cannot keep a style
22:04in like I will get box braids sit there for 10 hours keep them in for a week and be like all right
22:10I'm done like I took pictures let's wrap it up yeah that's me if I'm sitting there I'm gonna keep
22:15them for as long as I do until they start falling out and they're gotta yeah growth y'all see the
22:20parallel I'm trying to be that girly I'm really trying guys she in the earlier when she got the
22:26braid she's like I think I'm a braid girl now like I'm gonna just I'm like be real until tomorrow
22:30I'm like be fucking for real you're gonna until next week they'll probably be gone next I'm gonna be
22:35like I did the event and then I took photos and like I just like now I need a wig
22:39I just feel ugly now like I need something new you know what it is it's about being like a new
22:45person every single time once you get your hair next challenge yeah once I get my hair done I just
22:52feel like a brand new person yeah and I love when you get to like actually scratch your scalp like
22:57that's oh my gosh and also mine is like really thick and it was super long I started doing tape
23:04bends my hair started coming out so I'm just growing it back right now yeah I had that taping
23:10issue I'm like currently flirting with getting a silk press and getting my hair straightened but I'm
23:15like I actually recently just did that actually in that photo right there I had my natural hair
23:19I just ironed it myself oh it's so cute thank you honestly people don't talk about how
23:25much more work it is being natural and like having to work curly hair they're like oh so much wash and
23:32go can't relate yeah it's not really not even like to do this little slick back I've been in the back
23:39putting so much gel on it because I've been oh yeah my hair never wants to lay down okay so I've
23:44recently been on this is not what we're talking about but I've recently been on like this journey of
23:49only doing wash and goes and believe it or not if you get the right products and you style it
23:54properly it's easier it took me less than like three minutes to do my hair today so how did you
23:58find the right product I just define my curls keep it for a few days TikTok is everything whenever I
24:04need an answer I'm like what's Google I'm gonna go to TikTok yeah if I'm doing that whole wash and go
24:09I'm defining my curls keeping it for a few days then it'll probably be in a bun or something I don't
24:14know I'm just like if I'm washing it I'm slicking it down that's like I can't I don't know how to do
24:19I try and get Jordan to wear her hair out all the time y'all please tell her to wear her natural
24:23hair out please I need to get we found your next hairstyle we can exchange we can exchange some
24:29product recommendations okay so what was like how did you guys each influence each other right like
24:35Jodi what was Jordan's biggest influence on you and Jordan what was your biggest or what was Jodi's
24:40biggest influence on you um honestly really everything she does I'm not gonna lie like Jordan's just
24:46really that girl in all aspects and not even like talking about materialistic things like she
24:51just has a heart of gold and the way that she carries herself is just so admirable like to know
24:57her is to love her and she really taught me how to be selfless and to be just extremely grateful and
25:05unapologetically me like ever since I was super young even if Jordan wasn't the most confident she
25:11would always embrace herself and walk with her head high so she really just taught me kind of like
25:18not how to be myself because I was always me but she just inspired me to not let anyone like play with
25:25me or talk fears into my plans you know yeah I wish I was as strong as Jodi is at her age when I was her age
25:33also I did not look as beautiful as she looks but Jodi is a Capricorn she's very ghost me too
25:40okay now I get it now I get it what's your birthday January 6th I'm the 14th wait what are you
25:47Capricorns are winning I'm a cancer see y'all y'all show me that much love there must be some
25:55Libras in here period okay yeah any cancer actually I love it I love no I love Libras though I really
26:01love Libras no but she's a Capricorn so she goes really hard for the people she loves she loves hard
26:08she doesn't play about her people Jodi will fight anyone for me I swear has anyone out um but she just
26:16she has the vision she's had the vision from a young age she was always carrying around a lip gloss even
26:21when she was always what one oh wow a purse lip gloss and a cell phone I think she might
26:27stole my pink razor when I didn't use it anymore and she would just keep that in her bag so she's
26:32always been about her makeup her glam her people and um yeah I would change my outfit like five times a
26:39day I would change my outfit all the time yeah I swear like people come over I'd be like I need to
26:44change my outfit yeah but no I love having a little sister I grew up we also have two brothers so
26:50I was the only girl for a while and um so nice having a little sister right like Jordan will
