Transcript
00:00Kevin Hart may or may not be hosting the Oscars this year, but either way he has apologized
00:04again for the tweets he penned in 2011 that resulted in him stepping down from the role
00:09he'd wanted to take on for so long. The comedian issued another apology to the LGBTQ community
00:14on his Sirius XM radio show, Straight From the Heart.
00:30In the segment, Hart discussed the original homophobic joke that landed him in hot water,
00:34explaining that he had to unearth it to remind himself of the exact wording.
00:38I really had to dive into the whole thing, even the tweets Hart explained.
00:42These weren't words that I said to gay individuals. I didn't say these words to people at the time.
00:47This was our dumbasses on Twitter going back and forth with each other. We thought it was okay
00:51to talk like that, because that's how we talk to one another. In that, you go,
00:55this is wrong now. The Upside actor then proceeded to acknowledge in deeper detail how the social
01:00landscape has changed. Now we're in a space where I'm around people of the LGBTQ community,
01:06and I'm now aware of how these words make them feel and why they say,
01:10that s**t hurt because of what I've been through, Hart said. So then we say, hey man, as a group,
01:15let's erase this s**t. Let's not do this. We don't post this s**t on social media. The bottom line,
01:20according to the comic, I think that in the times we're living in, we have to be understanding
01:24and accepting of people and change. Hart was announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts
01:29and Sciences as host of the 91st Academy Awards on December 4, but stepped down from the position
01:34just two days later following backlash over his previous homophobic remarks. The awards ceremony,
01:40which will take place on February 24, is still without a host, but fellow comedian Ellen DeGeneres
01:44has urged Hart to step back into the role after speaking to the Academy on his behalf.
