Doctors have again raised concerns about the prescription of weight loss drugs by Telehealth clinics. It comes after a woman was hospitalised with an eating disorder after an online provider authorised medication her long-time GP had refused.

00:00Claire Munch is recovering from what she calls the worst years of her life.
00:07Since her school days, the 47-year-old has battled an eating disorder and severe mental health issues.
00:13As a result, her GP told her she wasn't eligible for weight loss drugs.
00:17Instead, she turned to the telehealth company Juniper.
00:21At the end of the questionnaire, I was accepted, no questions asked, and I was then sent the medication.
00:28That led to a relapse of her eating disorder and months later she was hospitalised.
00:33She told Juniper what had happened and they apologised and refunded her.
00:37But the company still sent her discount codes encouraging her to sign back up.
00:42It was so manipulative and abusive. I'm like, I didn't want to have this.
00:47You know, I'd unsubscribed and everything.
00:50It's terrible, you know, I really feel for her.
00:52And it's re-traumatising her experience as well.
00:56Specialist doctors are increasingly concerned about online providers prescribing weight loss drugs.
01:02In regards to side effect management, but also constantly looking at those more longer term risks,
01:07which includes risk of disordered eating, eating disorders, but also micronutrient deficiencies, muscle loss, those sorts of things.
01:13In its apology letter, Juniper told Miss Munch it's made changes to its clinical procedures, including mandating video consultations.
01:21Juniper says it can't comment on individual cases, but is committed to patient safety.
01:27The federal government insists it hasn't seen a rise in eating disorders related to weight loss drugs, but it is aware of a handful of cases.
