Thailand's reformist leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut is leading opinion polls ahead of the Feb 8 election.

00:00Thailand's election race is taking shape ahead of the vote on February 8th,
00:05with reformist forces gaining momentum in the polls.
00:08At the center of the contest is Natapong Rembanyawood,
00:11leader of the Progressive People's Party, who is emerging as the frontrunner.
00:16The race is now widely seen as a three-way contest.
00:20Natapong's reformist movement is challenging Prime Minister Anutin Chon Virakol
00:24and his conservative Bum Chai Thai Party as well as the former ruling Pew Thai Party.
00:30A poll conducted by Suandusit University shows Natapong leading with over 35 percent support,
00:36followed by Pew's Thai Prime Ministerial Candidate Yotchanan Wang Sawad,
00:39while Anutin trails in third place with 16 percent.
00:43A separate survey by the National Institute of Development Administration
00:46also places Natapong ahead with support rising to 29 percent, up from 25 percent earlier this month.
00:53The same poll shows Anutin making modest gains to 22 percent,
00:57though he remains behind his main rivals.
01:01The People's Party is the successor to the Move Forward Party,
01:04which won the 2023 election but was blocked from forming a government
01:07and later dissolved by a court ruling.
01:10As Pauling Day draws closer,
01:12pressure is building on Anutin to shore up conservative support,
01:16with coalition talks widely expected after the vote.
