00:00And I want you to tell me about that summer of Monday qualifying for.
00:05Corn Ferry Tour events.
00:06Just tell people what Monday qualifying is all about and how frustrating it is.
00:10Difficult that process is.
00:12Yeah, it's it's not.
00:15Not an easy road.
00:15I mean, like you said, there's there's so many talented players that.
00:20Just don't find their way out there.
00:21I think it it's one of those things that takes some some good.
00:25Fortune and some good timing.
00:26And, you know, in my case, it.
00:30Worked out that way.
00:30You know, I played Monday qualifiers most of that summer.
00:35And got all the way to the last one.
00:38You know, it's one of those things.
00:40You go shoot 66 in the third group out of the day.
00:43I did it, man.
00:44I understand.
00:44Yeah.
00:45I remember I remember one in particular and I think it was Briggs Ranch.
00:50In Texas.
00:50Yep.
00:51And I shot I think I shot 65.
00:54Like the second.
00:55Group out and there were already four 63s.
00:58So it was just one of like.
01:00It's just you had no chance unless you shot nine, 10, 11 under.
01:03Oh, my God.
01:04Did you.
01:05Did you qualify for any before we'll get to the one in Omaha?
01:08But before that, did you qualify for any.
01:10Other Mondays?
01:11No.
01:13I had.
01:13I had gotten through a US Open.
01:15Open sectional, which is kind of a different animal, but.
01:20Yeah, really until then I had I hadn't played in any major.
01:25Professional event on a kind of a PGA Tour sanctioned tour.
01:28And now.
01:29Yeah.
01:30Eventually got to got to Omaha, the last one of the season, last Monday qualifier and.
01:35I shot I think I shot eight under 64.
01:39Yeah.
01:40And, you know, kind of a me.
01:43I'm like, OK, well, that's not going to do it.
01:45I'm just based on my experience that summer.
01:48I just felt like, OK, I played well, but that.
01:50That didn't feel that hard.
01:51Somebody's there's going to be five people that shoot 10.
01:53Um.
01:55And kind of so I waited around all day, sat in the parking lot for hours and finally,
01:59you know.
02:00Started looking pretty good with a few groups left and got in and my.
02:05Actually, my current caddy, Kyle, I called him because I had been.
02:10I had been joking with him all summer, you know, if I get into something, will you caddy for me?
02:14Um, of course.
02:15Of course, he said, yes, you know, he was he was playing himself.
02:17And but I called him on one afternoon.
02:20He said, hey, can you meet me in Omaha, Nebraska?
02:22Oh, my gosh.
02:23So, yeah.
02:25Caddy for me for a couple of weeks and starting together for really good tournaments and.
02:30Got myself conditional status or special temporary status, I suppose.
02:35So, yeah, it was how many events do you think you played Monday qualifying?
02:39Do you think you play.
02:40You know, more than five during that.
02:42Yeah, I would say I played.
02:43I would say I probably.
02:45I played high single digits, I probably played six or eight.
02:50OK, so can you run through just what those costs kind of looked like and just the operating.
02:55Cash that you had that summer to kind of play with, because I had read that you were probably.
03:00Maybe you're playing out two more weeks before you're potentially writing letters to the member.
03:05membership at Sleepy Hollow trying to fundraise a little bit.
03:07I mean, you were you were right up against it, man.
03:09I was out.
03:10Yeah, I was out of cash.
03:12I it is expensive.
03:14I mean, the.
03:15I'm sure fees are expensive.
03:16Shrapples are expensive, even if you're trying to do it cheaply, you know, I.
03:20I split hotel rooms with my college teammates, I I have found the cheapest flights I could for the most.
03:25are and it just is expensive and, you know, unless you've.
03:30worked for a number of years, you know, not many people coming out of college have much money to.
03:35name and, you know, I didn't have a job I never worked at practice.
03:40So, um, you know, I didn't have much money and, um.
03:45Thankfully, you know, we're very lucky.
03:47Sleepy Hollow was incredibly supportive of my father and.
03:50of my career and, um, I don't think I would have even had to write a letter there.
03:53There were already some people kind of.
03:55lining up to help me out, which I'm incredibly grateful for looking back and also grateful I never had.
04:00to make that ask mm-hmm just because I feel like as soon as you start taking them on.
04:05there's just another layer of pressure that you don't want to have and there's plenty of it on you already and totally.
04:10for me, that would have been, I think, difficult so, uh, to get in when I did and.
04:15you know, to never in that first, there were plenty of setbacks, but I never felt like I was going back.
04:20backwards, I wasn't, you know, from that point on, I wasn't running out of money, I wasn't.
04:25you know, struggling to keep a card, I was kind of fighting my way up.
04:30and I wasn't really, I never felt like my back was against the wall again after that.
