00:00After the Renegade shooting, the administration seems to suggest that ICE officers enjoy near
00:05complete immunity, but today you told the Washington Examiner that when appropriate, the administration
00:10might take disciplinary actions against ICE, so is that a change of opinion, and if so,
00:15why the change of opinion?
00:16No, I didn't say, and I don't think any other official within the Trump administration
00:20said that officers who engaged in wrongdoing would enjoy immunity, that's absurd.
00:24We have a federal law
00:25enforcement official engaging in federal law enforcement action.
00:28That's a federal issue.
00:29That guy is protected.
00:30By absolute immunity, he was doing his job.
00:33What I did say is that when federal law
00:35enforcement officers violate the law, that is typically something that federal officials
00:38would look into.
00:39We don't want these guys
00:40to have kangaroo courts.
00:41We want them to actually have real due process, real investigation.
00:45Because again, sometimes they're accused of wrongdoing, and it turns out when you learn
00:48the context, they didn't actually
00:50do anything wrong.
00:51But of course, we're going to investigate these things.
00:53Of course, we're investigating the Renee Good shooting.
00:55But we're investigating them in a way that respects people's rights, and then ensures that
01:00if somebody did something wrong, yes, they're going to face disciplinary action, but we're
01:03not going to judge them in the court.
01:05of public opinion.
01:06I've spoken at length on this particular case.
01:08I think that Renee Good's death is
01:10a tragedy.
01:11I also think that she rammed an ICE officer with her car.
01:14So there are the
01:15The tragedy here is multilayered.
01:18The tragedy is there was the misunderstanding, the tragedy
01:20is that Renee Good lost her life.
01:22The tragedy is that you have ICE officers who are going into
01:25communities where they're worried that if they call 911, no one's going to come to help them.
01:30That is what produces this terrible situation, and it's something state and local officials
01:35here in Minnesota could solve.
