00:00On Friday morning, Comedy Central announced that it is cancelling The Opposition with
00:03Jordan Klepper after one season. But Klepper himself is staying at the cable channel to
00:08host a new half-hour series tentatively titled Klepper. In a statement, Comedy Central said,
00:13"...we are excited to announce Klepper, a new primetime weekly series created by and
00:18starring Jordan Klepper. The new series will premiere in early 2019, with production beginning
00:22in July. Accordingly, production on The Opposition will cease after its June 28 episode. We thank
00:28the cast and crew of The Opposition for their incredible efforts in creating such a bold,
00:32provocative show and look forward to the launch of Jordan's new primetime series next year."
00:37Klepper created his on-air persona for The Opposition, an alt-media satire, after seeing how
00:42alternative media sources like InfoWars and Breitbart were influencing the current climate.
00:47Klepper now says he is looking forward to the opportunity to introduce viewers to a new character.
00:51I couldn't be more proud of the hard-working, creative staff of The Opposition who tirelessly
00:56filtered the world through the chaos of America's fringe. This staff is remarkable. Moving forward,
01:01I will be leaving The Opposition's paranoid Jordan Klepper character behind, he said.
01:05I figured, maybe right now, the world could use one less arse, because I've been him for the
01:10better part of my life. He's eager to get into the field, talk to real America, and make a
01:14kick-ass television show." According to Comedy Central's announcement, the new series will see
01:18Klepper get out of the studio and into the real world, where he will interview real people
01:22about issues that are both important to him and to the country. Rather than regurgitate the current
01:27political narrative, Klepper intends to drive it by challenging attitudes, perceptions and bias.
01:33Moving over with the host to executive produce Klepper are Stuart Miller and Kim Gamble,
01:37along with executive producer and co-creator Trevor Noah. Klepper, an alum of the Upright
01:41Citizens Brigade and Second City, joined The Daily Show in 2014 before heading behind the desk at The Opposition.
01:47Comedy Central has not yet eyed a successor, meaning Trevor Noah will be its sole late-night host,
01:52and the network plans to run reruns of The Office in the time slot for now.
