00:00On the line, Roxxon has been so good on the 94 to start the year. Can he get a win? Can Sexton and Webb get on the board? Hunter Lawrence, so close last week. Watch for Prado at the start. We're ready at Anaheim to drop the gate.
00:14Tomek and Lawrence fighting for it. No, Jason Anderson has to lead over Sexton. And Sexton able to clear Lawrence to lockdown second. Where did Malcolm Stewart come from?
00:33Yeah, he came around that corner and was able to triple on that tabletop. Ah, look it. I'll tell you what, these guys are going to have their hands full with the four of Chase Sexton.
00:44Especially if he gets by a home break. Jason Anderson here within the next two laps. When you think about where Eli's at, all that, just those three guys that separate them is all you need for a guy like Chase Sexton to build a gap and maintain. It's going to be interesting.
01:03The wild first couple of corners. Riders who looked to have good starts got shuffled back. You've got Lawrence. Oh, Tomek able to make a move on Malcolm Stewart. Powers around the outside.
01:15And Plessinger follows him through. Oh, Hunter Lawrence.
01:19It's by Sexton.
01:22Oh, and they almost built wheels.
01:23And there's Eli right in the mix.
01:26And we had said early in the season that the early lap intensity was maybe the one weakness for Hunter. Not this time.
01:33100%. This is where he absolutely had to improve.
01:38And he has done a magnificent job of that.
01:41Last week and so far here early on in the main.
01:46Now you remember, you go back to Anaheim 1.
01:48The one guy that he had a problem getting by.
01:50And that's Jason Anderson.
01:52If he's able to get to that rear wheel of Anderson, he cannot wait around like he did at A1.
01:59It's going to be interesting to see how that plays out.
02:01There is no love loss and a lot of history between Anderson and the Lawrence brothers.
02:06So that was the situation Hunter had to deal with two weeks ago here.
02:10But he's got to go because Sexton and Tomek are right there.
02:14Then you've got Plessinger.
02:15Webb's sixth.
02:16Ken Rockson is in 21st place.
02:20These guys are just absolutely slingshotting out of that outside line in the sand section.

02:28Sobachi last week's fifth place finisher buried.
02:31Prado buried as well.
02:32And Anderson taking advantage.
02:37Sexton rolling back up to Lawrence.
02:42Roxen went down early by himself.
02:43He is back up and okay.

02:53Yeah, he keeps peeking on the inside of these rhythm lanes coming into the corners, being a little lower.
03:01Oh, he was right on top of the rear wheel of Hunter.

03:08And he powers out and takes second away.
03:17Yeah, great pass by Chase right there.
03:19Goes up the inside of that right-hander after the mechanics area.
03:25Spooks Hunter just a little that he needed to.
03:28Man, Chase is looking so good right now.
03:32I think the ride that he had last week was something to build on.
03:35Oh, he got the bike a little bit more dialed in.
03:39Said the bike fell too low at Anaheim 1.
03:42They actually made it taller.
03:44Was much more comfortable last week.
03:46Had a ton of speed.
03:47But got stuck in the starting gate.
03:48Now, finally, we can see what Sexton can do from the front.
03:53We talked about it a little bit before the night, before the races started here.
03:58And I just felt like watching Tomac in practice.
04:01I just didn't feel like he was spot on and his timing wasn't as precise as it was the last two weeks.
04:08Obviously, he's gotten a little bit better since qualifying practice earlier today.
04:13But I just feel like he's missing that little bit extra that he had.
04:19Well, we were trying to theorize as to why.
04:21The dirt a lot different than Anaheim 1.
04:24Could that be the difference maker?
04:25Yeah, again, a little more load on the bike perhaps.
04:29And not something that he's raced on a condition like this on this new machine.
04:34Maybe it's working a bit different for him.
04:37Oh, lookit.
04:38Yeah, Webb is attacking Plessinger, who's hanging with Tomac.
04:42Oh, Plessinger overjumped.
04:43This is going to allow Webb to get side by side.
04:46Can he make a move in the woods?
04:50Webb had to, and he does.
04:52Ooh, that was a good move by Webb.
04:54These next couple laps, now that he has some clean air,
04:57it's going to be interesting if he can find that Eye of the Tiger
05:00that has led him to be a three-time Monster Energy Supercross track.
05:04If he can lock that in and activate that mode, JT.
05:12Yeah, Rick, I just wanted to add to what you were talking about there.
05:14You know, we're all kind of hypothesizing,
05:16but if you think about the conditions at A1,
05:18everybody was searching for traction.
05:21It's a really hard base, really loose on top,
05:24which is really difficult to kind of find certainty.
05:27And we talked about how well Eli Tomac's KTM looked.
05:30It was so planted.
05:31It looked like he kind of could do whatever he wanted,
05:33where everybody else was struggling a bit.
05:35But with so much more traction here,
05:37maybe he just doesn't have that edge that he had over everybody.
05:40The higher traction levels have kind of negated the advantage he had at A1.
05:45Yeah, well said.
05:46Yeah, that advantage.
05:48And that's why, you know, like I was saying about the different condition here,
05:52it's going to work different.
05:54And, again, if he had a massive advantage because of those conditions,
05:57well, it's gone away.
05:58Anderson on the Twisted T, Suzuki now under fire from Sexton.
06:04Anderson rides so well here at Anaheim.
06:07Battled near the podium two weeks ago at a podium last year.
06:11Hasn't won a race, though, since 2022.
06:13Can he hang on?
06:15Sexton is applying a lot of heat.
06:18And it's still early in this main event.
06:20Oh, yeah.
06:21These are the rides that you just love to watch from Chase Sexton.
06:24And, you know, if he's able to do this every single week,
06:28and he's winning all the time.
06:31And it's just the drive that he carries.
06:34He's right there showing a wheel to Anderson.
06:37They triple on together.
06:39Triple.
06:40Triple.
06:43Into the corner.
06:43Sexton has it.
06:45Anderson uses the outside.
06:47Big run.
06:49He threes out and gets him.
06:52That was a great pass back by Jason Anderson.
06:56He anticipated the four of Sexton making the move.

07:03Surprised that Anderson gave it that easy in that corner.
07:06Yeah, what a fantastic battle.
07:10As Tomek is trying to get Hunter Lawrence here in the bottom box.

07:14Yeah, if he wants to have any contest towards Sexton,
07:19he's going to have to get by Hunter Lawrence right here.
07:23You're going to see Sexton just pull out a massive lead.
07:27And once again, Hunter Lawrence has to contend with Anderson.
07:30This was the scenario at Anaheim 1.
07:33He tried to be nice to him.
07:36And it's not going to help because Tomek is right there.
07:39Jason Anderson not doing anything wrong right here.
07:43And he's so good at guarding his position.
07:47Tomek got the inside.
07:49He tried.
07:54Hunter was able to get a good run through the Wolves right there.
07:57I thought that Eli was going to get him, but Hunter stuck with it.
08:01And Eli did a good job too of not completely closing him out as well.
08:05And I want to point out Webb back there.

08:09Oh, yeah, and from a championship standpoint, 100% he does.
08:13Cooper Webb was the fastest guy around the track that time.
08:16Oh, Tomek sent it off that jump to get inside and makes the move.

08:21He's going to go beast mode right now.

08:25Hunter gives it all he has on the inside.
08:27And that line just isn't developed enough, isn't established enough
08:31for it to be equal to the outside.

08:40I cannot believe Malcolm Stewart is hanging tough like this for six,
08:44riding with major shoulder injuries, dating back two weeks ago here.

08:54This, as far as if Eli is able to catch up to the four,
09:00this is going to be a massive, massive mental psyche race, I believe.
09:05We just, well, what that would do to Sexton.
09:08I mean, because we all, we say it all the time,

09:50He's gotten in in this battle with Plessinger and Stewart.

09:55I'm wondering if he's starting to feel the effects of that big heat race crash.
10:00Yeah, probably so.
10:02I mean, that was a tough crash.
10:04Just the fact that he's out there, Will, is pretty remarkable.
10:08Yeah, he's doing well.
10:09He did get some physiotherapy from Doc G during the break there in between racing.
10:14But I was told that he's banged up and he's kind of grazed up on his shoulder.
10:17They said, all in all, he's doing well, but he may be feeling the effects, as you guys said.

10:58By going to the inside right there, you just kill your momentum.
11:01And he can't do the three out either, and that's going to allow Lawrence to fight him.

11:17It's going to be wide open in the right of the corner, and Hunter Lawrence gets it.
11:22Oh, that was costly for Tomek.
11:24Yeah, what a pass by Hunter.
11:26Hunter was right there lurking.
11:27And then when Eli tried to make that pass on Anderson, he ended up losing more time rather
11:34than if he would have probably followed Anderson through there.
11:37And that's what allowed Hunter just to get that much closer and make the move.
11:42Well, he stood there and watched it in practice.
11:44The jumps after the whoops, so critical.
11:47Tomek couldn't get it, and then suddenly Lawrence was there, and now he's going to go back after
11:52Jason Anderson.
11:53Yeah, I mean, he's got to get by this dude.

12:07This is one of those races, Jason, is just like you got one foot in, one foot out.

12:40Here is Lawrence working on Anderson again.
12:42So if he can get a good run down the inside of this rhythm lane right here, maybe he can
12:51make a move in this right-hander.
12:54But it's going to put him inside.
12:56He can make the pass.

13:00Yeah, Anderson doesn't really put up a fight right there.
13:02Now these next couple laps, like I talked about for Tomac, going to be interesting to see.

13:16Cooper Webb is right there now with Tomac.

13:25And while those three battled, he's now in a four-rider fight.
13:28As Lawrence tries to distance himself, Tomac and Webb go to work on it.

13:44What can Tomac do with the 21?
13:46He's going to try to use the outside, which will turn to the inside.
13:52Is he close enough?

13:54Oh, puts him over the track, off the track.
13:58Getting aggressive, but look at Cooper Webb.
14:00This is a gritty ride that Cooper Webb's going for.
14:05We talked about it at the opening of the show, Jason, that Cooper Webb needed to show us something.
14:14And he has done that here tonight.
14:17He has stepped up.
14:19He had no more room to give.
14:2121 points back.
14:24Went to the goat farm this past week.
14:27Made some adjustments, small adjustments to the bike.
14:29Not wholesale changes, but it appears just enough.
14:34And there's plenty of time.
14:36Five minutes and a lap to go for him to go after Tomac.
14:39Or can Tomac put in a charge on Lawrence?
14:43They've disposed of Anderson.
14:44And I mean, almost literally disposed.
14:49Right.
14:49Tomac just cut across the ruts.
14:52Put Anderson off the track.
14:54He's got to go.
14:56Because the champ is here.
14:57I can tell you, if I'm a competitor, if I'm Eli Tomac, if I'm Chase Sexton or Hunter Lawrence,
15:08I do not want to see that number one start to get confidence.
15:14We've seen it happen in three championship occasions.

15:20Behind him, you've got Stewart battling it out with Savace.
15:24That is a battle for six.
15:25Savace, this time, doing it without the good start.
15:28And coming through the pack.
15:29And those are some huge names.

15:36Not a surprise, though.
15:37I mean, this guy has plenty of ability to run where he's running.
15:40It seems like he believes in himself.

15:46He's like, you know, that fifth to eighth is the goal.
15:48But he's like, the fifth last week, that was great.
15:50He's like, I almost kind of need a result buffer, if you like.
15:53He's like, because when I get to the front there, and I get into those positions,
15:56I don't really want to force things forward too much.
15:59He's like, that next pack of riders, that's tough to get to.
16:01He's like, but I'm going consistently in that fifth, sixth, seventh spot.
16:04He's like, then the moment comes, and I'm sitting there, and I can go,
16:07all right, let's push and see what I'm capable of.
16:09He just talked about it as putting those building blocks in place.
16:12So I'm going about this season very methodically,
16:15and I was praising the team for everything they've done for him.

16:25Hunter Lawrence taking a little bit of time out of Sexton's lead,
16:28and we get our first look at Ken Roxen,
16:31who was basically last when this race started.
16:35Yeah, he went down on his own early on in this race, but working hard.
16:40He's catching up to the back of a pack of guys that are going to be really tough to get by.
16:45Yeah.
16:47Hopefully he'll be able to use one of those split lanes to his advantage.
16:50That's what's nice about those split lanes is it gives you an easier opportunity to make a move,
16:55especially this inside right here.
16:57Once it gets grooved in and there's an established line, he'll be able to use that.
17:03And Roxen, a title contender early this year, needs these points as Prado goes after Stewart.
17:10Again, he's got to be hurting.
17:11That'll move Prado up.
17:13Prado's showing he can do it without the start.
17:16Prado got fired and ended up 13th last week, but moving up with authority this time on the 26th.
17:27And the lead down to 2.3 up front between Lawrence and Sexton, and there is Roxen making moves.
17:35Let's check in with the leader.
17:36Now the gap down to two seconds.
17:38Yeah, one thing about it, though, at this level, I mean, and what I've learned completely different
17:43to when, like, when Stu and I was racing, is that these guys are so good.
17:46Oh, that lapper, Mitchell Harrison, slowing up.
17:50Hunter, going back to what I was saying is that these guys are good at, like, getting a two,
17:55two-and-a-half-second lead and just maintaining that gap.
17:58So it's always tough for me to tell, like, is he just, you know, is he maintaining what he's got
18:03or is he actually losing time because he's not the best guy right now?
18:08Well, that lap traffic might have made that debate even harder to figure out
18:13because the lead is back to 2.7 just with that one incident alone.
18:18Yeah, we're getting down to the end here.
18:22Chase just looks like he's in the zone.

19:01They had a big gap over Anderson, so he won't lose any more positions.

19:16Oh, that is an uncommon mistake by the three-time champ.
19:21But let me tell you, man, it ain't for a lack of not trying.
19:24This is a huge turnaround from the last two weeks.
19:27Well, when you're pushing that limit, it's easier to make those mistakes, and your risk of going down increases.
19:36He's got to get going here because Savace, who's been riding well, is, you can see, not too far back.

19:44Is the challenge from Lawrence complete?

19:54I mean, again, he's going to need some help.

20:16He said last week he feels the last five laps.
20:19If they've got to get around Forkner, or last five minutes, where he does his best work.

20:29How tough is it when you go down like Webb to ramp it back up?

20:34Especially late in the race like this, when you've been digging.

20:48I think that lap traffic exchange was the end of it.

20:53And I'll tell you, makes up a lot of points here tonight.

20:58And as it runs right now, he's only 13 behind Tomac.
21:01I'm going to tell you, that's an eternity to have a point swing like that in one night.
21:06What is it like mentally, too?
21:10Well, and I think that was exactly where I was going next.
21:12And mentally, now knowing, again, giving that affirmation that he can go out there and still be the guy that he's always been.
21:24He's keeping an eye on Lawrence.

21:30And he makes it look right.
