00:00I'm Pete Wiggs and by now you should definitely know I love dogs in fact I
00:17don't just love them I'm completely obsessed I like them more than I like
00:22people and I always have safe now buddy and I couldn't be more delighted to be
00:28back at Dogs Trust again hey little baby pub to witness the resilience how she's
00:35managed to bring up six puppies it's a miracle the courage this one looks a
00:39little bit more shut down it's just really sad Pete and the unconditional
00:43love that these amazing creatures are capable of and every day I'm blown away
00:48by the amazing humans who work here too because behind every rescue we have to
00:53give them the better chance about hiding I hate saying anyone quite there's a team
00:57of vets physios and people who believe that every dog matters we've not opened
01:03the door yet we're gonna be brave and we're gonna do it today look at the big
01:07wide world it's like they flipped the switch and they've decided they want to
01:11live
01:14help you know you look good it's the dragon what a great day come on puppies
01:23I'm back and starting somewhere that's become like a second home the Basildon Center in my
01:35very own Essex good afternoon Dogs Trust Basildon Pete speaking and there is no time to waste as I get
01:41stuck back in there's some sort of lumps of it's for you darling thank you oh you're so
01:47nice oh yeah just just the best job ever it honestly is just the best job ever but it
01:55doesn't take long before I'm reminded how quickly things can take a serious turn
01:59here yeah no I know it's really really hard now is that all right then so we'll we'll come to you
02:05now all right we'll see you very soon see you soon all right take care bye you all right what's
02:09happening it's a guy who has got 18 dogs in the house and he reached out to us to see if we would
02:17take some of them so it's a voluntary handover which is great he's finding it really difficult to
02:21to hand over the dogs and which is kind of why we just need to he's just said he's just agreed for the
02:27first time that we can go so we just kind of need to go right now right now yeah I'm ready
02:32animal hoarding has become a growing problem in recent years and the team are seeing it more and
02:37more often let me get the door for you oh thank you very much here you go madam thank you today I'm
02:44joining Lisa and behaviorist Gemma on this delicate case with so called hoarding situations often
02:55they're linked with underlying mental health issues and so it's not necessarily about the
02:59numbers of dogs it's just they need to feel that they need to collect in the case of hoarding animals
03:04with that many dogs in a home there's likely to be urine there's likely to be faeces around the home
03:10that in itself can lead to health issues for both the person and for the dogs he's told me that the
03:16dogs haven't ever really left the house before it's a situation that until we get there we just don't
03:20know well I'm here to help so whatever you guys need me to do yeah thank you thank you very much
03:26thank you good luck guys thank you as Lisa and Gemma go to meet the owner we have no idea if he will
03:37give any of his 18 dogs up today Lisa and Gemma are at the door I mean we're about 40 foot away and
03:48it is loud that's a lot that sounds like an awful lot of dogs
03:54what's the guy saying he's quite sweet actually he's clearly in a bad way yeah so Gemma's just
04:08gone back pick up some more dogs so we've got three here now they look to be in pretty good condition to
04:17disappear but they do smell so this little one looks a little bit more shut down than the other
04:31three and they have just been within that property so for them to come out in these crates people they
04:39don't know to be put in the back of a van they've probably never experienced that before so I imagine
04:45they're terrified this one's poor little bit older little bit older little bit older I'm just gonna
04:51go back and help Lisa quickly with five dogs in the van Lisa and Gemma come around the corner with the
04:57last of the two hours is that all right yeah you might need to shut this door quite quick yeah I'm ready
05:01there you go he refused to get in any of the carriers so pick it up it was okay so is that the
05:11scared he was wriggly but we got there didn't we how was it it's just really sad Pete like it's really
05:17sad he's a nice guy and he can you can just see he just he just wants what's best for the dogs he's
05:22just got to stay out of control and he said he didn't sleep last night but he knows it's the right
05:26thing for the dogs so we've got six so we've got two older dogs so you've got around six years old
05:31and thinks and the rest are around about four months old and from two different it says all
05:35right shall we get back then let's get back yeah time is of the essence in this case we need to get
05:40these terrified chihuahuas back to be properly assessed first up are the two older dogs right
05:46he's gonna be a little bit scaredy because I've got to grab him oh good boy good boy well done well
05:51done it's okay it's okay let's go yeah having never left the house this terrified chain needs
05:59to be carried something the team only do when there's no other choice I mean this could be the
06:05first time he's ever had a collar on at all yeah first time he's met other people in a long time there
06:10we go I think leave I think we just need to leave him give him a little while to settle in he's so
06:19worried yeah it's not fair as they're so scared the team decide to leave the two adults who they've
06:29named cheddar and feta to settle before they handle them any further and now it's time for the younger
06:35ones yeah these younger ones might be slightly easier yeah hey guys good doggie they're obviously
06:49very reluctant to come out of these little carriers of me yeah I mean is this fairly normal in terms of
06:55the fact you know if they come from a hoarding situation with multiple multiple dogs with new
06:59people new environment it must be pretty scary for him imagine what everything you've experienced in
07:10your life it's been turned upside down it's I think it's even worse than that every understanding you've
07:15got of the world yeah and suddenly everything is different oh this is good this is really this is
07:21really good I think these two these two most common yeah these two came out pretty much within a couple
07:26of minutes hey princess hi I mean she's definitely a lot more nervous than the others so we still need
07:33to name these four as well so if we stand down the cheese route I like parmesan and then we've got
07:40another little boy here halloumi oh got a little one coming out a little so that one ricotta I like that
07:48one oh it's wagging his little tail at the girl so this is Brie this is Brie yeah I mean she's
07:54considerably smaller and thinner than I feel yeah yeah yeah yeah as her three brothers explore it's
08:03only nervous Brie who still won't come out she's shaking quite a lot out of all of them she looks
08:09the most underweight the others have all got pretty good body condition like weight wise they then they
08:14don't look visibly underweight good yeah some are more confident than others I'm really surprised and
08:20actually the fact that these two are a little bit more scared if they can watch these two other guys
08:25who are more confident with new people and watch them do it first they'll observationally learn that
08:30things are a bit safe and things are okay anytime you see a dog shut down or anytime you see a dog who
08:37is pretty much living in fear which is where they're currently at everything they've ever known has been
08:43ripped away from them and they don't understand it's for their own good the two older ones it was
08:48just so shut down I just wish I could speak dog you know to say to her it's okay like you know we're
08:53gonna everything that's gonna be fine with the cost of living still putting pressure on families
09:13across the country Dogs Trust has seen a marked rise in people having to give up their dogs come on to hard
09:19times where I'll see but I've got to put him up for re-homing it's a hard decision for anyone to make
09:25oh puppy and today Nicole and Danny are in with their pugs are you doing guys you're right yeah thank
09:33you hello puppy who's this hello darling how are you Sapphire and that's Coco Sapphire and Coco yeah
09:42what are you guys doing here today rehoming our dogs okay you're gonna be rehoming both of these
09:50guys yeah okay I mean I can tell that that's not an easy decision for you no I mean do you mind me
09:58asking why circumstances that are really out of our control financially and everything is just not
10:04plausible for us anymore rents a bit more expensive now so yeah we have to give them a better chance at
10:11a better home how long have you had them both since birth we had their mum there were four in March
10:15yeah sisters yeah they came from the same litter sisters yeah Sapphire's pregnant this little baby
10:22yeah she's pregnant yeah it's a really tough situation but genuinely by bringing them here
10:29they're in the best possible care I'll make sure they go somewhere nice I promise you that I wanted
10:34to prove everybody wrong and that we could have dogs and a baby and pay for everything and I just I
10:40tried but but darling that's not listen it's best life it doesn't matter about proving people wrong
10:47it honestly doesn't matter you have to do what's best for you and you have to do what's best for the
10:51dogs and by the sounds of it I think this is probably it but you've got to look after yourselves as well
10:56you know yeah yeah thank you and I genuinely mean that guys thank you guys I'm gonna I'm gonna give
11:05you a little minute to say goodbye yeah thank you yeah be alright thank you buddy
11:21that girl was devastated because they've made a tough decision that is best for the dogs out of love
11:32they brought me here out of love they brought me here to give them the best chance really upsetting it's
11:38um I hate seeing anyone cry oh god it's gonna upset me now I hate seeing anyone cry uh but sometimes when
11:49you see someone love saying so much and come to the realization actually there's nothing more I can do
11:56um and then have to look at other solutions it's heartbreaking
12:01I promise you we find all good home
12:25you've got a beautiful daughter yeah you know concentrate on that yeah and actually what
12:31you've done is so brave you've had four years you've given them everything for four years you can
12:35see how loved they are yeah you know I mean you should be really really proud of that you should
12:39be really proud of that can't give us a hug though thanks honestly you've done the right thing thank you
12:46I'll do thank you appreciate it right take care guys yeah
13:04Coco and Safa are taken straight to the vet suite for a check-up with James and Charlotte
13:09is a good girl after Coco's all checked the team decide on a special plan for her even though the
13:17intake is a really lovely blood it's very noisy for little dogs like Coco that just aren't used to
13:22this environment luckily for Coco she'll be getting some very important pet treatment because she's so
13:28small and so sweet I've got a really lovely um older lady that's available to foster oh I'm
13:33literally going to take Coco out and get her there as quick as I can and get her on the sofa she's
13:38lovely though isn't she yeah really really sweet super cute that's it it's okay puppy are you ready
13:45you go to your little foster home oh I love that little dog now it's time to see how pregnant sister
13:51Sapphire is doing all right guys hi have a little look at Sapphire I mean obviously you can tell now I
13:58couldn't tell outside but it's pregnant yeah do we know how far gone or anything she's about 45 days
14:06we know that she's been mated with another pug that's always really good to know because pugs can
14:10struggle to give birth naturally especially if they've been mated with a larger breed dog so
14:15hopefully being another pug that's going to be in her favor and it'll be a nice natural birth and we
14:21won't have to go um to surgery but with pugs you just never know like we will still need to keep a
14:26close eye on her so with that noise we can hear at the moment that could potentially be a concern
14:32presumably as well for kind of brekkie breeds that do struggle with their breathing being pregnant as
14:37well yeah will have a bit more of an impact because they're carrying an extra bit of weight yeah it's
14:42just gonna be one to be momented as pugs are at a higher risk during pregnancy and birth the team
14:48want to send Sapphire for a scan to check everything's okay so me and handler Sharla take her to see the
14:54off-site vets hi Sapphire would like to come in please amazing where vet amy will be doing her
14:59ultrasound so put the lights down until so she's been nice and calm for her scan good girl good girl
15:04so it's pretty much similar to human ultrasound then so a little bit of gel goes on a little bit of gel
15:11so she's definitely pregnant there's no doubt about that you're not fat you're not fat so that's
15:17always good news so you can definitely see at least three in one image but i think she's got at least
15:22four at least four i think so four little pugs did you know a group of pugs is called a grumble
15:30is it really yes that's amazing well they all look nice and healthy they're kicking away and she seems
15:37to be coping quite well bless her potentially at least four pups which is very exciting you look very
15:43good so she could be dropping sometime very soon and i cannot wait for some tiny little baby puggles
15:51little baby little bubble you can have a little grumble you can have a grumble oh no no granddad is so
15:57happy the idea of pug puppies has made me completely lose my mind and i haven't recovered by the time i get
16:07back to the basildon center hi to see how the young cheese chihuahuas are doing now they've been here
16:13for three days oh hello everyone it's a cheese party you do you are you are cheese board and the four
16:20younger cheese who have now got the all clear from the vets have started to come out of their shelves
16:25they look yeah i know a lot more confident i know hi are you surprised at kind of how well they've
16:33adapted yeah i am to be honest little breeze really sweet as well but she's just that little bit more
16:40scared i think she'll get there she's already shown some promise but dogs have different personalities
16:46she might just be a quieter dog hi brie it's really nice to see you you know you're a soft cheese
16:52as the younger dogs are adapting well it's a completely different story for the two adults
16:57feta and cheddar who are still so scared they've not left their kennel behavior officer becky is in
17:06assessing them hi becky hello you okay yeah yeah can i come in yeah of course come in hi cheese it's
17:14her other little cheese very scared not quite the same as the other four no no they're definitely not
17:20progressing as well as the other four they're just more nervous they're not really approaching us as
17:25much feta's definitely a little bit more brave but cheddar's still very much like i need to stay away
17:30i mean these two are the slightly older ones they've probably been sheltered for longer the difference
17:35between them and these two you know coming from the same house is quite vast yeah massively and
17:41actually they they don't help each other because they're both nervous as the team are leaving them
17:47alone as much as possible they've not yet had a vet check but there seems to be a problem with feta
17:53you can have it oh yeah that's also a big concern limping yeah yeah he's very lame on his front left leg
18:02it is something that we're going to have to deal with because obviously we can't leave him if he's
18:07in pain so we are going to have to get them vet checked pretty quick quicker than what we would
18:13do like if we were just letting them build their confidence a little bit also
18:17has he got a weird ear yeah his ears quite inflamed it looks quite thickened it looks quite sore obviously
18:24if he is in pain that will be affecting obviously his behavior definitely yeah so we want to try and get
18:30that under control as quickly as possible so that we can help you know him feel better as feta desperately
18:37needs to see the vet the confidence building will have to take a back seat but no sooner is that
18:44decision made a van full of strays arrives including a spaniel cross okay not a single thing needs
18:58a nervous shepherd
19:00get you in your kennel shall we
19:02hello mister
19:05and finally a very excitable spaniel what happened to that eye yeah it doesn't really open a lot
19:13i'm not going to stress him out too much because he's only just arrived it's a lot for him
19:17charlotte wants to assess him further and i am desperate to meet him
19:20hello hello puppy who is this this is eddie he is super friendly hello puppy so we're not entirely
19:30sure his backstory at all not too sure we didn't have a lot of information on him unfortunately um
19:35he has got a doctor towel so potentially previously a working spaniel i don't want to uh be rude eddie
19:42but there's a very obvious constantly winking at you yes is there even is there an eye there not too
19:49sure we've had a look as best we can but obviously because he is so bouncy it is difficult to see
19:54right in there in terms of how a dog with one eye comes i have some slight experience with that yes
20:02peggy one of my dogs has got hello babe has got one eye um and she comes really really well it
20:08doesn't seem to affect her at all is that the same with most dogs or is my dog special all dogs are
20:13special good answer as long as he's got his sense of smell i think he'll be all right what's next for
20:19eddie so he needs his castrate done yeah so we're going to do that and whilst he's under the general
20:24aesthetic we can have a better look at that eye because it's just really a question mark about
20:28whether we need to intervene in some way you're so pretty would you like a one-eyed girlfriend
20:34she's a bit older i love him he is a character i know oh you're so beautiful
20:48i think he loves you as well to be honest what is it yeah
20:51what is it paul where is it i want to find this loving boy at home but until we know what's going
20:57on with his eye he can't be put up for rehoming i've really enjoyed meeting you it's been so much fun
21:04isn't it with every dog the team look after here there is no guarantee their journey will go smoothly
21:11and over in the puppy block there is a serious problem as pregnant pug sapphire has taken a
21:18turn for the worse hi it's just charlotte calling from the dogs trust and we've got a heavily pregnant
21:23pug here and she's off her food and she's panting quite a lot and we suspect she's gone into labor
21:28and she might be having some trouble so we wanted to get her down to you to have a check over
21:32pugs often struggle giving birth naturally due to the puppy's flat faces and broad skulls
21:38we're just a little bit worried about her because she hasn't passed any pups
21:42and so we're going to get down to the external vet so maybe she needs a caesarean section to have
21:46the puppies and so we're just going to get her straight down there now time is crucial complications
21:52in labor could be life-threatening for the pups and for sapphire
22:00back in basildon one two three it's been a few days since the cheese chihuahuas arrived at the
22:06center for the four younger pups today's a big day as it's the first time they have ever been outside
22:13and it's fair to say they're all taking it in their tiny strides come and join the conga
22:20do do do do come on in here we go oh he's coming yeah oh i'm the cheese king i'm the cheese king
22:29i'm the cheese king oh he's still there hi hi he's quite hot even brie has come out of her shell
22:38but adults cheddar and feta still won't leave their kennel the team are no closer to handling them
22:47and they desperately need to see the vets so the decision is made to catch them in crates
22:53as they're both so scared they're having a general anesthetic for their vet checks first to be seen
22:59by vet vanessa is cheddar cheddar has loads of fleas who apart from being infested with fleas
23:05all right which he'll receive a treatment for he's giving the all clear next is feta vanessa
23:14wants to investigate the cause of his limp the joint mobility is pretty good but it's just thick
23:20like here but maybe could it be like one of the other dogs has bitten and then they had an infection
23:26or something and that's where it's just so work so i might just clip it and see
23:30there is evidence of sort of old scabbing and stuff here look it's in my big dog bit him what
23:40we'll do is we'll treat him with pain relief and antibiotics as well now she can move on to his
23:46inflamed ear ear infections can be incredibly painful for dogs and untreated can lead to hearing loss and
23:54chronic pain so we can't see the eardrum in his case because there's just so much discharge there
24:00so what we're going to do is we're going to give it a good flush of saline because that's completely
24:04fine to use within the ear even if the um eardrum is damaged so by removing this discharge that's in
24:10the ear that'll make him feel more comfortable probably he might look a little worse for wear now
24:17but with medication hopefully feta will start to feel more comfortable soon
24:25you guys are right with that yeah yeah over at the puppy block thank you sapphire is arriving back
24:30from the off-site vets after she was rushed off in labor yesterday she had to have an emergency
24:36cesarean section to deliver her puppies and is back with three wonderful pug pups
24:42it's only a day old so how come she had to have this c-section it came um apparent quite quickly
24:51that she did have one stuck um so they did have to go for a c-section so what do they call that
24:56breach is it so it was breached yeah and she was unable to pass that one on her own um and that
25:01that was the first one so obviously not being able to pass that one she weren't going to be
25:05able to pass the rest and that one unfortunately passed yeah unfortunately that one didn't make it
25:09losing a pup is never easy to hear but fortunately for the other three the team were able to intervene
25:16it's such a shame to have lost one
25:20how stressful is it for for mum having to have a c-section um you know any woman that's been in
25:26labor will tell you it's pretty stressful you know standard um but you know this poor girl she's had to
25:33be washed down to our external practice in pain because she's already in labor
25:36um they've had to obviously put her under ga open her up move remove the pups you know she's going
25:43to have a painful wound now as well and you know when you put all of that together it's really stressful
25:48for her after a c-section due to pain and stress mums can be known to reject their pups meaning the team
25:54may have to step in which they desperately want to avoid pups are feeding off of mum where they can
26:00she does at the moment only have three teats that are producing milk so obviously it's a little bit
26:05of a problem and as always with new puppies we will be weighing them daily probably twice a day
26:11to start with just to make sure that they continue to gain weight it's never nice to lose any dog but
26:16there is still three and i think the next few weeks is just about trying to get them through
26:22kind of the worst of it if you like the first couple of weeks is always the toughest and
26:26you know i think sapphire is going to be a great mom and yeah i think it's just all hands on deck at
26:32the minute we don't want to lose anymore so make these moments last what we all hold our breath and
26:38hope the puppies will be okay over in the vet suite oh my goodness all right should i give you your little
26:47jappy then you're so friendly stray spaniel eddie is having a general anesthetic so vet vanessa can get a
26:55proper look at his eye so we've got some eyelids and just some soft tissue but there's no sign of
27:00any globe there so the soft tissue could be muscles but it's whether there could be conjunctiva there
27:07because that can get inflamed and cause issues in the future conjunctiva is a thin transparent membrane
27:13that covers the inner surface of the eyelid and acts as a protective barrier to the eye
27:18isn't it do you think he was born with this yeah i think it's just a congenital defect it doesn't look
27:23like nothing's happened to the eye i'll take some photos of it and i'll send them to the ophthalmologist
27:29they may say that we should remove this soft tissue that's there because if it's conjunctiva
27:38maybe it can cause a problem in the future the team will need to wait for the results to see if
27:42he will need further treatment before he can be rehomed
27:45over in kennels treatment has worked for cheddar whose fleas are all gone
27:53and fetter's leg has improved with pain relief and his ear is clearing up with antibiotics
27:59but while the team had hoped being pain-free might have improved their confidence
28:03they still haven't left their kennel today jemma and jordan have a plan and i want to help out
28:10all right girls hello how are they yeah still very scared um we've not been able to get them out in a
28:18week they've just been hiding in the back of the kennels still a lot of just feeding and them kind
28:22of creeping forward at the minute so what's the plan of action so the plan is um we're going to
28:27introduce um these guys to parmesan and halloumi just to see if it kind of encourages them to
28:34come out or makes them a little bit more confident all right should we go and do it then girls let's
28:37go and do it come on then do it come on a little one better and cheddar haven't come on as much as
28:42we hope they would so there's an awful lot riding on this and i really hope that being around the
28:47younger dogs kind of brings them out of their shell a little bit i'll be quite surprised if these
28:51guys actually come out so that would be good have cheddar and feta left the kennel at all
28:56not out of choice no only for their vet check first we open the door to feta and cheddar hello
29:02are you gonna come out then jordan opens the door to halloumi and parmesan hello here he comes little guy
29:13oh wow they've gone straight in there yeah
29:27about feta and cheddar oh wow they've come out that's really good because feta literally just
29:31followed palms down out so that is really good so this is the first time that they've they've
29:36really come anywhere near coming out of the kill themselves or even coming kind of towards
29:41kind of us and look they're following them out this is exactly what we wanted them to do
29:45this is a massive step forward for feta and cheddar i mean are you surprised by this
29:50yeah i'm surprised by this with these guys definitely fetters completely different
29:56with these guys completely i mean i'm being very calm but i'm very excited yeah
30:02it's nice to actually see them not kind of in the corner yeah just looking completely broken
30:08wow running yeah that's big though really big it's exciting isn't it cheddar yeah you've been very
30:19mature i haven't forgotten that's awful that was really bad i feel really excited after that it was
30:30so nice to see the older two like cheddar and feta be like dogs again because so far we've kind of
30:35seen them cowering at the back but behaviorally it was always going to be a long road but actually
30:40that looks like there's a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel i mean they're nowhere near
30:44being free of that fear but they're making progress because they are all lovely i mean i feel like
30:51i've developed a little bit of love for cheese chihuahuas i already had love for cheese
30:56in the basilden center sapphire has recovered really well from her surgery and has done an
31:09amazing job with her pug puppies
31:14who've now all been given names as precious as they are pearl topaz
31:20and diamond they are now four weeks old and i'm visiting them today with charlotte for some puggy
31:29cuddles hello pete it's baby hi hi baby hey hi little baby hello mommy how are you
31:40i send you a bit crazy don't they oh i didn't need any help with that i'm daddy i'm going out of my
31:48mind yeah right back in the room i have work to do today we're just doing a little bit of weaning
31:56with them so kind of end of three weeks four weeks we start weaning them off of mum with all young
32:01puppies we do need to be careful um with the amount we're feeding them just to avoid aspiration pneumonia
32:06but especially what exactly is that darling um so it's basically inhaling the food that will then
32:11go into the lungs which can then cause a really nasty infection so um obviously that's not good at
32:16all is that something that is more of a risk because they're brachybraids yeah 100 um so they
32:23struggle to eat and breathe at the same time unfortunately so how do we go about this kind
32:27of weaning process then um so really we just want to feed them really slowly so if you just want to get
32:34a little bit of food on your finger there um um and just yeah they do get they get quite excited
32:40over the food it's here though but you can see that they are taken to it really well already and in
32:46terms of their kind of weight and everything else are they all pretty healthy oh they're all doing
32:51really well yeah not worried about them at all they're gaining every day you've done very well
32:55to little baby puppies you know you've done so well to little baby puppies with sapphire having looked
33:01after her pup so well over the next few weeks it's full steam ahead with puppy socialization
33:08from carry walks it's very bright isn't it to toy play outside
33:21and even meeting other puppies so is this the first time these guys have met
33:27um and obviously really important that puppies get to socialize with other puppies what do they
33:33learn from each other manners or you know how to interact with other dogs what's what's play
33:38how do i know another dog's going to disengage confidence around other dogs as well isn't it
33:42yeah yeah just help okay you've been terrorized oh break it up break it up stop stop and just days
33:57after being put up for rehoming the pug phone has been ringing off the hook and they've all found homes
34:03the whiting family took home little diamonds topaz found a new home with kirsty and pearl
34:11became the newest member of the lock family with the pups having gone i want to check in with mum
34:18sapphire hello hello hello baby how are you darling how are you she's away from the pups now has she been
34:27coping being away from them um she's coping fine not having the pups around but she is struggling in
34:33um a block kennel yeah um so we are going to get her into foster okay um just a bit of a nicer
34:39environment for her it's going to be exciting you get to be in a home which has been a long time
34:44since she's been in a home because it's been a couple of months now isn't it yep that's exciting
34:48presumably we're going to find out a lot more about her and kind of her personality when she goes into
34:53foster but obviously she's adorable she absolutely loves people and she's got really great little
34:58character so i'm sure you know it won't be long before we get her home seeing sapphire kind of out
35:04and about and ready to to find herself again is just a really lovely thing she's had a tough ride
35:09since she's been here so getting her into foster and getting her rehomed is is the name of the game now
35:14and i just i love her a little bit and it's not long till sapphire is settling into her foster home
35:21where it turns out this dedicated mum loves slow walks good girl
35:29and big cuddles you really get okay and let's not forget about her sister coco who after three
35:36weeks living with her foster carer janice getting lots of love you're going to a new mommy and daddy
35:43and i will get the foster you know found a new home for life where she's starting her next chapter
35:49with geraldine from hartfordshire and i could not be happier for her
36:01over in the kennel block the team have been busy kennel mixing the younger cheese cheese
36:07with the older ones feta and cheddar and they have finally helped the older two gain some confidence
36:13but they still aren't brave enough to leave the kennel block and have yet to set a single paw
36:19outside he's okay something they probably have never done to help with this the team start lead
36:27training the plan has been to start applying gentle pressure along with following a tree ready can i come
36:33this way good boy this way just the pressure he just resists do we think they've they've never actually
36:40been kind of walked no the only outside we think he's ever seen he's been carried from house to
36:46van there's a whole wide world for these guys to see over the next few days the team work hard on
36:52lead training with cheddar and feta in the hope they will finally get them outside how far have you
36:57gotten down here have you actually been practicing coming all the way to this door at the minute but
37:02we've not opened the door yet rowsers we're going to do it today we're going to be brave and we're going
37:07to do it today we are just going to brave it aren't we boys see what happens yeah let's see it we'll
37:13just do the same thing good this is so exciting look at the big bird world they're both still
37:21obviously sticking to the doorway at the minute oh what a clever boy and you can see they're less
37:27thinking about the leads now than they are when they're actually inside yeah yeah just focused on
37:33what else is going on this is such a massive step forward for these boys wow look at you walking
37:39on a lead like a real dog this is what it's like to be an actual doggy as the team make massive
37:48strides forward with feta and cheddar i've heard there might be some news about my excitable boy eddie
37:53oh yeah okay hold on how's eddie been he's well you can see he's doing very well and what about
38:08the eye so there is no evidence of an eye there at all and they strongly suspect that it's congenital
38:14he was just born without knife oh really yeah what's the next step is he is he available for
38:18rehoming potentially he's going up for rehoming he's ready i mean look how happy you are you're
38:25such a happy boy i know i know i just want to go home find me a home i want to go home i want to go
38:30home i want to go home he's so happy this is fantastic news for eddie who's already stolen the
38:37heart of my crew member james and his dog pig there's something special about him he's got a real
38:43nice bond a really lovely nature hem and peg have got on brilliantly it's amazing to see my mate eddie
38:51living his best life in his new home and there's more good news because the four young cheese cheese
39:00have all found their forever homes our little lady brie has gone home with the king family diane took
39:08halloumi home to brentwood parmesan joined raymona and nathan and finally with an owl took little ricotta
39:19i could not be happier seeing them all set off to start their new lives
39:26but the older cheese cheese are still at the center it's been six weeks since they arrived
39:33and jemma and lisa have been working hard with their lead training
39:37so today i want to catch up with them to see how they're getting on
39:40do we go for a walk go for a walk now yeah the lead training is doing so well they've literally
39:47smashed it can i come and do the cheese party oh look oh running out this is genuinely incredible
39:58here we go john take lead i mean yeah hi puppy this way come on then you've just taken
40:05fetter off can i take cheddar off as well go for it let him be free be free we can run around
40:11okay or don't it's fine you stick with us just hanging with you guys just chilling
40:16it's just so nice to just just just see him like this yeah i mean like what is it at six weeks
40:22do you remember when like cheddar came out and we couldn't get him in a crate and you had to carry him
40:28and he was just so frightened snappy snappy i'm just having a minute and they're up probably homing
40:36now yeah yeah yeah i've got signs up yesterday they're up very homing you know obviously i've
40:43been here a while and i've seen like the work you guys do but this is the first time that i've been
40:48there from pick up yeah you just didn't know hi hey baby yeah i know we just didn't know what was
40:56going to happen seeing them like this is just incredible this is like the biggest turnaround
40:59you can you can imagine i've never in a million years thought that this little lad would be just
41:04chilling on me lap oh yeah oh that's so sweet like him doing that my god baby but even i mean this is
41:12the first time i've stroked either of them yeah it's just so nice isn't it are you feeling better
41:18sorry better it's still so bad i'm so surprised you haven't run out of cheese jokes yet no listen
41:26i'm going to be honest with you jeffa it's not easy being cheesy stop it stop
41:33i did not expect that i genuinely didn't i you know i i knew that they've made some progress but
41:41that's a complete turnaround that's like two different dogs
41:49it's testament to the work they put in there like it really is those those two dogs you know
41:55have spent weeks just trying to get them into the kitchen and just trying to be out of touch them
41:59and now they're all over here and that's it it's like they flipped a switch and they've decided they
42:05want to live how do we fancy doing like a celebratory skip run into the sunset shall we i mean look it's a
42:14beautiful moment should we give it a go let's do it let's give it a go are you skipping are we running
42:18i think we should skip oh god you're ready let's skip come on puppies
42:30they've eventually saved their lives and it's taken them a long time but they've got to a point where
42:35those dogs are just a loving life now they're ready to go on start chapter two of their own lives
42:41and i cannot wait to hear that they found their homes come on don't pretend you're embarrassed of
42:49us he's so embarrassed and it didn't take long because only a few weeks later they both found a
42:57new home with emma in bedfordshire puppies do you want to be a police dog yeah that's a yes oh yeah
43:12definitely it's just hard isn't it even if you know that for the right reasons it's not nice
43:18yes tetley is completely deaf so we have to communicate entirely through sign does that be
43:26quiet yeah that's cleverer than i am silence is golden talk is cheap do you really have nothing more to
43:35say to me cause when your whole world turns upside now i'll be your solid ground
43:48so
43:56you
