Post-election violence in Uganda leaves 30 dead

The head of the Ugandan army and son of newly re-elected President Yoweri Museveni said on Friday that 30 opposition supporters had been killed and 2,000 arrested following the election.

00:00On Friday, Uganda's army chief said the military had killed what he referred to as 30 NUP terrorists,
00:10in reference to members of the political party of opposition leader Bobby Wine.
00:16Wine himself remained in hiding after alleging that security forces raided his home
00:21following the vote on January 15.
00:24He described the election as theft and urged people to protest.
00:30According to the Electoral Commission, Wine lost the vote to Uwari Museveni,
00:35who secured the seventh term in office with 72% of the vote.
00:39Museveni's army chief this week threatened to kill Wine.
00:48In the wake of Uganda's elections, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he is monitoring the situation in the country with concern.
00:57The European Union has also voiced concern over wine's safety.
