00:00Do you think there was some surprise in Washington about the scale and the intensity of the outcry with regards to Greenland's sovereignty by the Europeans and others?
00:12I don't think there was a surprise. I think that was a big shock to a lot of people.
00:16And when he said we have the framework, it's like the temperature in the room just went to normal immediately.
00:24People were like wiping sweat off their foreheads with the European parliamentarians were so relieved and happy.
00:31And the certainly the European politicians.
00:36So President Trump will work in this framework, and I'm sure he's going to bring in all of the influential leaders.
00:43But but I think his example of being strong leaders and and of substance and putting that security first,
00:50because if those European leaders had just looked at the facts that Greenland wasn't secure,
00:56that it was really open season, that Greenlanders had and Denmark, because they're responsible for the security there.
01:02They had no awareness of some of these ports into Greenland.
01:06I mean, they just didn't. They don't have the personnel and there's just nobody there.
01:11So people and things could come in and out without awareness.
01:15And I think that's probably one of the reasons that when I was there, they acknowledged that they had a drug problem.
01:22I mean, you know, it's an island, but it's only fifty seven thousand people or so.
01:28And how would that be? Well, there must have been some smuggling coming in.
01:31So what else is coming in and who else is there and, you know, what are they up to?
01:37So and I will just acknowledge it's not just about the island.
01:41It's also about the seas around the island.
01:43And the fact that China and Russia have this no holds barred, this pact of military cooperation,
01:51and they'll be doing more Arctic exercises together.
01:54And the fact that Russia has more militarization in the Arctic than any country by far,
02:00they have more than 40 icebreakers and some of them have missiles on them.
02:04So they're working with China. China's gaining more skills.
02:07And China wrote a paper in 2018 called the Polar Silk Road, where they claimed the right to the wealth in the Arctic.
02:15Forty percent of it. They said we have a big population.
02:18We're a near Arctic nation. We claim the ownership of 40 percent of what's under the earth and in the sea in the Arctic.
02:26And they're not a near Arctic nation. There's no such thing.
02:29So so there is there are threats and there are rising threats and challenges in the Arctic,
02:35especially with the proximity to this very militarized, gigantic Russian coast.
