00:00What did you learn about yourself playing in these three major championships?
00:03I mean, those weeks, they're huge.
00:06I mean, I remember going to Augusta.
00:07I played those four or five rounds before the week,
00:11and it was pretty cool seeing kind of how empty the course was at that time
00:16and how good the greens were five weeks, six weeks before the tournament.
00:21But playing the par three contest and just being involved in the week,
00:25it's pretty special.
00:27It's a really big week, and even the Open and the U.S. Open,
00:32I think one mistake I made was playing a little bit too much.
00:36You kind of want to spend every minute of every day on the golf course
00:40playing with all these great guys.
00:42So I think I overdid it a little bit, but I think it was definitely worth it.
00:47Trust me, I think I have you beat.
00:48The first major championship I played was U.S. Open at Pioneers.
00:52I just qualified, just got out of school, and I played 18 holes on Sunday, Monday,
00:57Tuesday, and then I played 16 holes, a little day off on Wednesday
01:00before that first round on Thursday.
01:02So I can definitely relate with overdoing it in a major championship.
01:07So I want to ask you this.
01:08You know, there's so many rookies that come on to, whether it be the NBA,
01:13the NFL, and they all have like a welcome to the league moment.
01:17What was your welcome to the majors moment, whether it be the Open,
01:21the Masters, or even the U.S. Open?
01:23And did you have any welcome to the majors moments from any of those?
01:29Yeah, I think there was a few.
01:30I think I remember getting to the driving range on Saturday the week before
01:37at the Open, at the old course, and they got the range on the one side.
01:42I think it's one of the other courses they use.
01:45And I remember getting there, and we got there early.
01:47And I remember I told my dad, I want to go hit some balls.
01:51I'm excited.
01:51I want to get out there.
01:53And I thought no one was going to be there.
01:54Obviously, I had no idea.
01:56You can go out the week before and stuff.
01:58And Lee Trevino was on the range, and Adam was there.
02:01And so many other legends of the game.
02:04And it kind of just hit me.
02:05And I was just, I was standing on the range for about 25 minutes
02:09just watching other guys hit the ball.
02:10And my bag was sitting over there.
02:14And I just didn't want to hit balls.
02:15I just wanted to watch other guys.
02:16So it was pretty cool.
02:18I think that's kind of the biggest moment that kind of hit me.
02:21Anything at the Masters?
02:22Any good stories from that experience?
02:25Yeah, it was pretty cool playing the par 3 with Gary Player and Trevino.
02:30And that was a pretty special day.
02:32Having my dad, Caddy, he had a pretty good shot on 9.
02:36He was very impressed.
02:37But, yeah, it was pretty cool to kind of just walk through that week.
02:41And I think it helped playing that golf course a couple of times
02:45before the week started.
02:46I think it would have definitely looked different if I just rocked up on Monday
02:50playing it for the first time.
02:51And it was pretty special.
02:53I played with Schultz Watzel a practice round.
02:57And I remember going down 9.
02:59And that green is so elevated from that bottom side.
03:03And I think I had like a pitching wedge or 9-9 in.
03:05And I was trying to bring it in so high and kind of getting out of the shot a little bit.
03:09And it was quite nice for him to kind of help me out on that golf course a little bit.
03:13He's got so much knowledge over there.
03:15He's obviously won.
03:16And, yeah, it's pretty cool for him to kind of help me on some of the spots.
03:21Because you can't really hit the straight forward shot over there.
03:24There's three, four other shots you kind of have to create.
03:27So, it's pretty special.
03:29Do you remember any long drives you hit that week in particular where you said,
03:33wow, I can't believe I had a pitching wedge into a par 5?
03:36Did you overpower Augusta National at all?
03:38Was there one drive in particular that stands out?
03:42Yeah, there was one on 15 I hit.
03:45And it was quite wet that week.
03:47And I probably can't say what was on the golf ball with my approach on end.
03:51I'll probably get red flags.
03:52It's like organic matter is what it is.
03:56Exactly.
03:56Exactly.
03:57So, I hit a great shot.
03:58I had an 8-iron in.
04:00And that flag was tucked to that right bunker.
04:03And I hit it in the bunker.
04:05So, it was definitely not a birdie look from the wet shot in.
04:09But, yeah, I had an 8-iron in.
04:11And I remember hitting a long one.
04:13But getting to the ball and seeing that disappointment on my face,
04:16knowing, yep, it's not going to work out.
04:20But, yeah, I remember.
04:23My most fun memory from Augusta was probably sitting on 8th tee box.
04:28And I would hit my drive over that ride bunker,
04:32giving myself a better angle in.
04:34And I would hit it.
04:35And midway in the air, everyone would kind of just be like,
04:39oh, it's going to go in the bunker.
04:40And then I just walk.
04:41And then it flies and it bounces.
04:43And then everyone's, like, cheering.
04:44So, that was always a cool, every day just kind of doing that.
04:48It was pretty cool.
