00:00But I was starting to hit some shots at quail.

00:02I'm like, dang, I feel like I haven't hit these shots in a long time, or maybe even ever.

00:08So that's kind of when it started to click in my head.

00:10And I know I got smoked, and I was not happy coming up the last.

00:14But I was super excited, because Valhalla was next week.

00:17Next week, yeah.

00:19And I heard that Valhalla is very much, if there's a course on tour that's close to Valhalla,

00:24it's quail hollow.

00:25So I was jazzed, and I was just trying to focus on what was up ahead,

00:29not what just happened.

00:30And that seemed to pay off quickly.

00:33Yeah, because you went out and shot 60-0 the first round.

00:36Because I was doing an outing on 18, and they just kept on updating your board.

00:40And I was just like, is that a?

00:41Yeah, OK, Xander's playing good today.

00:44So it definitely got to a good start.

00:46And you were tied for the lead heading into the final round.

00:48And just another opportunity to go try to win a major championship.

00:52Did you feel as comfortable maybe in that position

00:55that you've had maybe to that point in your career?

00:58Yeah, I think I've touched up on that spot.

01:01Maybe I wasn't leading before, but I've been in the hunt at some point of a major championship

01:07sort of enough times.

01:09And I finally felt like my game was elevated enough across the board to where,

01:13as long as I kind of keep my head on straight,

01:17bring some of that stricker magic from that qualifier with me,

01:20like, I'm going to get this job done.

01:22And that board was wild throughout the day, too.

01:24It was like, I had the lead, and then I had a one-shot lead.

01:28And I wouldn't see a board for, like, three or four holes.

01:30And all of a sudden, I'm one back.

01:31And I'm like, holy shit, this is wild.

01:34Oh, my gosh.

01:36And well, the situation on 18, you knew exactly where you stood.

01:39And as kids, right, we always talk about a putt to win a major championship from

01:44six feet away.

01:45And you had it.

01:46And was it easy for you to stay in your routine?

01:48And were all the voices quiet in your head?

01:53They were.

01:53I was trying to control as many, all the voices that I could

01:57just with not really the subconscious, but like, just consciously trying to tell myself

02:01what to think.

02:03Pretty much.

02:03What did you tell yourself?

02:04Yeah, what did you say?

02:07Like, positive things around, you know, around the lines of, like, seize the moment.

02:11Basically, this is what you've wanted your entire life.

02:15You are in control of what's happening.

02:17And that's all that you can do.

02:18And that's all I could seriously wish for.

02:20I always joke about what I really want is it to be extremely boring.

02:24I want to have a seven shot lead going up there.

02:26Yeah, why wouldn't we?

02:28Adam Sandler hockey stick this last hole and laugh about it with one hand.

02:31Like, that's how much of a lead I want, but you got to earn that too.
