00:00Freddie, set, go.
00:02Mets finally land stud pitcher and now look ready to make noise in 2026.
00:07OMG, the Mets have been on a complete run this last couple of days
00:11and they just locked up their ace in Freddie Peralta.
00:14Raise your hand if you had zero clue or faith in what David Stern's process was
00:21earlier in the offseason, but now you think both he and Steve Cohen's checkbook
00:25just saved the Mets fans spring and possibly the season.
00:30Here's our MLB insider, Joel Sherman, on how Stearns cooked
00:34and what the Peralta trade means to the Mets being competitive in 2026.
00:39The Mets get a guy who, in theory, could start opening day.
00:43I wouldn't be surprised if he does.
00:45He is an ace type and David Stearns knows him well.
00:50David Stearns had a great run running baseball operations for the Brewers.
00:54Arguably his best trade while he was there was acquiring Freddie Peralta and now he has done it twice.
01:02The kicker here is they get Tobias Myers, who's an optionable arm, who had a very strong rookie season in 2024.
01:08It was not quite as good last year in 2025, but it gives the Mets some pitching depth and it really gives them rotation depth.
01:17You can check out Joel's full instant analysis on our YouTube page, but I think we all owe an apology and a shout out to David Stearns for sticking with his plan and his process through the noise.
01:30Through folks questioning what the heck he was doing while he was blowing up a core and resetting a roster to be more competitive.
01:39Individually, the Marcus Simeon or Devin Williams signing wasn't going to move the needle when you compare what and who he allowed to leave.
01:47But like my mom used to say, comparison is the thief of joy.
01:50Those guys and then going out and adding Bo Bichette and Luis Robert Jr. late and now this trade just completely reset all of the energy in the fan base and the expectations just weeks away from spring training.
02:04When you take a step back and you look at the offseason and its signings as a whole on paper, this is a more competitive roster in the signings match division.
