The city region mayor says Network Rail capacity issues have delayed the new Baltic Triangle station. Alternative contractors are being considered to keep the project moving.

00:05The Mayor of the Liverpool City Region has now confirmed that the project is now expected
00:10to open in 2029 instead of 2027.
00:14Speaking on BBC Radio Merseyside, Steve Rotherham said Network Rail is unable to prioritise
00:21the work due to other rail commitments.
00:23The Combined Authority is exploring contractors capable of operating on a live rail network.
00:29The station, planned for the Baltic Triangle on the former Liverpool-St James site, is
00:34designed to include step-free access, modern facilities, toilets and cycle storage.
00:40Network Rail says it will continue supporting the project as plans progress.
