00:00From landmark buildings in the city centre to major regeneration plans on the coast,
00:05Liverpool's development landscape is continuing to shift with a series of projects moving through planning and consultation stages.
00:12One of the city's most high-profile upgrades involves St John's Beacon, known locally as a Radio City Tower.
00:18The 138-metre Grade 2 listed structure has stood vacant since the departure of Bauer Media in late 2024,
00:25when the station rebranded as Hits Radio and ended its long association with the tower.
00:31According to its management company, remedial works are near completion following the tenant's exit.
00:36Rivington Hark, which launched an expression of interest process for the site,
00:40says it's received a high volume of proposals for the landmark and has extended the submission deadline to allow for
00:46further bids.
00:47The company said it's open to a wide range of ideas for the building's future use.
00:52Moving on to Southport, Safton Council's licensing committees approved the next stage of plans
00:57under the Les Transformation de Southport project.
01:01The scheme includes changes such as new public space at Neville Street and Promenade Junction,
01:06a one-way system, new pedestrian crossings, a cycle route along the promenade,
01:10and adjustments to parking and traffic flow.
01:12However, the plans have drawn criticism from Southport MP Patrick Hurley,
01:16who's raised concerns about the cycle lane design and level of consultation feedback.
01:20The council says the scheme is intended to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists
01:26and will now move into the detailed design stage with traffic regulation orders to be advertised.
01:32In Lidget, residents are pursuing legal action in the Court of Appeal
01:35over access to information relating to asbestos disposal at a demolition site on Savile Road.
01:40The group, seeking disclosure from the Health and Safety Executive and Information Commissioner's Office
01:45following a long-running dispute over environmental information requests.
01:50The case centres on whether certain documents fall within the scope for release under environmental regulations.
01:56The HSE says it does not comment on ongoing legal proceedings
01:59while the government legal department is representing its interests in court.
02:03A long-lost monument linked to the Mersey Tunnel has been reinstated.
02:07The circular structure, originally designed by architect Herbert Rouse and removed in the 1960s,
02:12has been recreated with funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
02:17Two restored art deco tollbooths have also been included in the project.
02:20Metro Mersey, Rotherham described the monument as a lost cultural asset,
02:24saying it reflects the ambition behind the original engineering project.
02:28Elsewhere, attention turns to the Whitechapel Centre in Liverpool City Centre,
02:32where plans are in place to make a rough sleeping assessment hub a permanent round-the-clock service.
02:36The facility currently operates on a temporary basis in partnership with Liverpool City Council's
02:41designed to provide a safe space for people experiencing homelessness.
02:46Taken together, the developments reflect a city-region balancing regeneration,
02:51heritage and infrastructure change,
02:53alongside ongoing debates over planning, safety and public accountability.
