00:00hello and welcome along to Invicta Sport the only show on your TV dedicated to wrapping up all of
00:22Kent's sporting action I'm Megan Shaw and here is what to expect on this Monday the 19th of January
00:28Chats chase championship Chatham's women's find out their draw for the FA Cup glow all out a school in
00:39Gravesend has organized a sponsored walk to raise awareness and funding to mental health issues in
00:45Kent and from Gents to Gillingham we meet the Belgian Jules fan group repping the club across
00:53Europe but first a roundup of the headlines Jules manager Gareth Ainsworth reveled in a dramatic
01:00match at priestfield against Newport County that earned them a much-needed win County twice took
01:06the lead in the fixture but the Jules were on their heels at every turn and managed to go three
01:10girls to two by the time full-time whistle thanks to a late goal by Gareth McCleary Ainsworth credited
01:16the big players turning up and putting on a good show with substitutes coming on and blocking with
01:20all their life to earn the three points we can hear a bit more from the manager now what's a game
01:28what's a win but what's a game you know we've waited we've waited for a while I think the players turned
01:37up but we also conceded too many chances against us but wow we we turned up and we won the game we
01:43found a way to win in a crazy game and I'm so so proud of the boys and the fans and everyone who's
01:49who's been involved in this you know players that didn't play it's worked some of the big players
01:54turned up definitely and made a difference but there were some awesome moments in the game and
01:59I'm not going to pick anyone out I'm sure you guys will pick people out you know I've got subs
02:04coming on I'm blocking with all their life you know to to get the result over the line fantastic
02:09performance going forward created a lot of chances could have been outside but defensively just want
02:16to tighten up a little bit especially on set pieces didn't think we were good at them today
02:19and that's been one of our strengths and staying with the match against Newport now a fan from the
02:25stands came to the rescue of the Gilles on Saturday after the game was held up due to injury one of the
02:31assistant referees had to be replaced so Gillingham's PA announcer Doug Hudson appealed for anyone in the
02:37crown with referee qualification to help out a volunteer was eventually found to be a stand in fourth
02:43official and Ainsworth praised the referee for how he managed the drama adding I thought he was
02:48outstanding a tough day for the referees when you lose one like that next the Tunbridge Juddians
02:54recorded an unfortunate loss against the Rams 35 to 33 after a win at the last week Nathan Earl
03:01finished off on a sprint down the left by Tom Mannix in the first minute he followed it up with a second try
03:0710 minutes later and the judge led with a 14 nil advantaged as play progressed the scoreboard looked
03:12even better after the ball went through plenty of hands Kendrick popped up to power through and Evans
03:17converted to make the score 26 to 7 at the halftime whistle the Rams persevered and eventually clawed back
03:23the score to 35 33 heartbreaking for the Kent side and staying with the rugby for now and it was a strong
03:30second-half performance that gave Canterbury a 21-12 victory at Westcombe Park and extended their
03:36National League to East winning streak to seven matches given the sticky conditions and the home
03:41sides defensive ability it's no surprise that ended without many tries Westcombe scored early after a
03:47mistake in the Canterbury back line to put themselves in the front foot Canterbury's good fundamentals meant
03:52that they stuck through it throughout the game though brought on a lot of penalties the win was
03:58confirmed after Reynolds punished an offside home team with a spinal penalty only three minutes from
04:02the full-time whistle and lastly Dover athletics striker Dakari Sharif is heading towards top form for
04:09Dover once again he came through 90 minutes injuring the White's 1-0 National League South home successors
04:15over the struggling Bath City he felt the goal gave the side a much heated lift as they ended their
04:20losing streak after picking up a knee injury against Chelmsford it was sidelined until a substitute
04:25appearance against Epps fleet at home he said personally I'm just trying to build more confidence
04:30to try and put away those opportunities I had and don't forget you can keep up to date with all the
04:36latest football news by reading Kent online but but did you know you can also have your weekly digest of

05:00Now Chatham town women team have had a historic run in the women's FA Cup
05:05booking themselves a last-minute 16 spots on Sunday they've defeated New York City to get news the
05:11New York City apologies to get there
05:13alongside Tottenham, Man City, Liverpool, Manchester United and 14-time winners Arsenal
05:19Finn McDermott is down there now to tell us a bit about the atmosphere so Finn I can see you down there now I can see the logo in the background
05:26Tell us what is it like?
05:30Well, it's an interesting atmosphere
05:31as you see
05:32as you could say
05:33I'm here in the stands and hopefully lots of people here will be hoping that these stands will be packed not just with fans of
05:39Chatham women's team but also fans of Chelsea's women's team and United, Man City, Tottenham
05:44Tottenham, there's a lot of different teams that could be drawn up here and it's very exciting 16 different teams at the moment
05:51It's sort of like the calm before the storm
05:53I say that because not all of the female players are here yet not all not the managers not here yet. That's Keith bonus
06:00Sorry Keith bonus has just arrived I should say yeah, but it's not quite there yet
06:05But it certainly will ramp up as the night continues
06:07Let me just read off some of the teams that Chatham town could be facing off against
06:11You've got Charlton, Man City, Sheffield United, Oxford United
06:15Arsenal, Man United, Bristol, Liverpool, Tottenham, Brighton, Chelsea, West Ham, the London City Lionesses, Everton and Birmingham City
06:24So lots of big names that you may well know even if you're not particularly into football
06:29But like I say quiet for now, but the atmosphere will certainly ramp up
06:33Absolutely as you said there some big names a really big day a monumental weekend really for Chatham town ladies
06:40So can you take us back to the beginning? So tell us about Chatham's journey to where they've got to now
06:46Absolutely
06:48Chatham town started out their journey through the FA Women's Cup
06:52Right around with Beaconsfield
06:54They won against them 6-0 a really strong start
06:57They started there and they just kind of kept going really
07:01They then took out Exter City, AFC Wimbledon
07:04They also faced off Sutton United a close 1-0 victory at home
07:08And they've been journeying quite, you know, quite a variety of places around the country
07:13They've only really had quite one or two home matches
07:16One of them being the defeat, the win, I should say, against York City
07:21Not New York City, Meg
07:22Where they managed to win 3-0
07:24In doing so, they managed to book their place in the last 16
07:28That's somewhere they've never been before
07:30So this is a very historic day for the Chats
07:33And with that win, manager Keith Burner said
07:35It was actually probably a better feeling than lifting the trophy
07:39And he would know he's previously won it with Charleston Athletic
07:42Absolutely
07:44And of course, huge for people in Kent
07:48And those in Medway and locally in Chatham too
07:50So we don't have much time left in
07:52But do tell us, what will fans across the county be hoping for?
07:55I think a lot of fans will be hoping for one of those big teams we mentioned
08:01I think there's nothing more FA Cup
08:04And that FA Cup magic of a small team like Chatham Town
08:07Felling a giant like Chelsea
08:10We've seen it in the men's FA Cup
08:11Macclesfield recently beat Crystal Palace
08:13To send them through to the Cup
08:15But, you know, could we see a giant killing from our very own Chatham Town women here?
08:20I think so
08:21And we're going to be waiting with bated breath here at the Beauville Stadium
08:24To find out exactly who that might be
08:26Absolutely something we'll be following along on Kent's night
08:30As well as on Invicta Sport here
08:32Now, according to Charity Mind
08:35People generally give up on their New Year's resolutions
08:38Two to three weeks into the new year
08:41The owner of Shisu Fitness here in Medway
08:44Has been giving us some advice on how to stay consistent in our goals
08:47Especially when it comes to exercise, which I for one am not the best at
08:51So Maisie Walker has more for you
08:53A New Year's resolution is a personal promise or goal people set at the start of a year to improve themselves
09:00These resolutions often focus on building positive habits
09:04Breaking bad ones or working toward personal growth
09:08However, many people abandon their resolutions within just a few weeks
09:13Now, my New Year's resolution was to stay active, but how easy is it to actually stay motivated?
09:20This is actually a really big problem because the gym is a scary place
09:23If it's not your comfortable environment and you're stepping into a gym with hundreds or even thousands of people there
09:28Potentially, it is overwhelming, you are going to feel uncomfortable
09:31So my best piece of advice would either get a gym buddy you can go with
09:35Maybe visit quieter times if you can
09:38Or even go down the road of a personal trainer or things like we do here like group coaching
09:42Where you're with, you know, a qualified professional
09:45And they can help build your confidence in the gym
09:48So then you can potentially go on and do it yourself in the future
09:50The biggest thing is when people join the gym in January
09:52They're highly motivated because it is January
09:55But motivation is a very fleeting emotion, so it comes and goes
09:58I think as soon as people maybe understand that you're not going to be motivated all the time
10:02And then if you go to the gym when you're not motivated
10:04I see that as discipline
10:06And that is actually what yields greater results than just relying on motivation alone
10:10I spoke with local residents of Rochester about their New Year's resolutions
10:14And how they're sticking to them so far
10:16To be a better person than I was last year, mind and body
10:20I feel like it's something that even though you try to achieve
10:23You won't until you're like let go in a way
10:26Like let go of something
10:28Like for me it's like I need to let go of past stuff to move on with my future
10:32It would be to have more education for myself and to enjoy my life
10:39To hit 180kg on the bench press
10:43My New Year's resolution is to get fitter
10:47Because I'm more conscious of my diet and my health
10:52Even at this ripe old age that I am
10:55So yes, as much as I can possibly do, I want to do
11:00As for me, I'll keep working towards my own goal
11:04But that's assuming I can ever reach the bar
11:09Now we've reached half-time on Invicta Sport, which means it's time for a break
11:20But coming up we've got plenty more
11:23We'll be hearing from our reporter Neela Mohammed who went down to a sponsored walk
11:27In Gravesend to raise awareness for mental health
11:33We'll also be catching up with a friendship group in Belgium who are huge Gillingham FC fans
11:38Not something I thought I'd ever be saying live on television
11:42But the duels clearly are going worldwide
11:45Especially after we spoke to someone a couple weeks ago from the States who's a big fan
11:49So all that and more after the break stay tuned and we'll catch you then goodbye
12:19Thank you
12:49Thank you
13:19Thank you
13:49Thank you
14:19Thank you
14:49Hello and welcome back to Invicta Sport live here on KMTV
15:16Now on Friday evening, a school in Gravesend organised a sponsored walk
15:22To raise awareness for mental health struggles in the community
15:25Hosted for free at the local cycle park
15:28The event saw hundreds of people in attendance
15:31All dressed for the glow-in-the-dark theme
15:34Our reporter, Neela Mohammed even, went to the event to find out more
15:39And a quick warning, this piece contains flashing images
15:43Five, four, three, two, one
15:51This was the moment that hundreds of people walked for mental health awareness in Gravesend
16:02Organised by the Shears Green Junior School
16:05This sponsored walk raised funds for mental health awareness and support services in the community
16:10And the theme?
16:13Glow-in-the-dark
16:13But how did this come about?
16:16Well earlier in the day, I spoke to the women behind it all
16:20Just before Christmas, I decided that we needed to do something to build up on mental health
16:26Bring the community together
16:27I think mental health affects quite a lot of us
16:31We're probably out, a lot of us not even realising how much it affects everyone
16:35Especially like children as well
16:37So I just really wanted to put something together
16:40So when I spoke to Matt, our head teacher, I said
16:43Look, why don't our staff do like a sponsored walk?
16:46And he was like, yeah, I think that's a great idea
16:48And then it started off something so small
16:50And tonight we are here at the cyclo park
16:52People of all ages turned up to walk as many laps as they could around the circuit
16:57With Hannah saying their mental health awareness should start from a young age
17:01If you work with them now
17:03And work with how to express their feelings
17:06And be able to even get parents to be able to have that conversation
17:10Because I think it's quite hard
17:11And I think some parents might not know how to tackle some of the conversations
17:16Some of the kids might say things
17:18But they might not quite understand what it actually means
17:20So to just open their eyes to what it means now
17:24And then hopefully we can stop them from going through life
17:28And struggling more when they are older
17:30The walk was hosted at the cyclo park
17:33Who say that community events like this are vital
17:35So it's really important to have events like this
17:38To raise awareness
17:40To put profile on the fact that there are such high levels
17:47But also to try and help people find solutions to this as well
17:51It was an evening of face paints
17:54Glow sticks
17:55Music
17:56And even a group workout
17:59Hundreds of people have shown up here to show their support
18:11To the sponsored walk here at the cyclo park
18:13All of them here to help raise awareness
18:15To the mental health crisis that's here in Kent
18:17In fact Kent has some of the highest mental health cases
18:20Across the entire country
18:22Which is why organisers say community events like this
18:25Are just so, so important
18:27In fact, every penny gained here tonight
18:29Will be going to various mental health charities
18:31Both on the county level and nationwide
18:34For many here today
18:35Every step taken was a reminder
18:37That mental health matters
18:39And that no one has to walk the journey alone
18:42Now it's time to remind you, of course, that you can keep up to date
18:50With all the latest sports news, interviews and features
18:53From here on Invictus Sport by heading to our website
18:56That's kmtv.co.uk and clicking on the sport tab
19:01There you'll see videos like this one
19:03Where our reporter Finn McDermid tried his hand at Tai Chi
19:06In the small village of Barham near Canterbury
19:10Is a class teaching Tai Chi
19:12A Chinese martial art practiced around the world
19:15Although it has its roots in combat
19:17In the modern day it's mostly used as a form of exercise
19:20With slow, low impact movements
19:22To help people with their health
19:23It's often called meditation in motion
19:26It gives them balance
19:29Helps with their mobility
19:31Helps to
19:34Helps them to do movements they're not used to
19:37So it helps to stimulate your neuropathways
19:40If you know what neuropathways are
19:42If you don't, it's the connection between your brain and your body
19:47And it helps to prevent things like Alzheimer's
19:52And things like that
19:53Overall health
19:55And relaxation
19:57Now Barry's been showing me and the class some Tai Chi
20:00I've never really done it before
20:02But he's shown me this move
20:03Where you put your Lao Gong
20:04Or basically the palm of your hand
20:06Onto your Yunmen
20:07Or this area around your collarbone
20:09It's called a lung point as well
20:11All to strengthen your lungs
20:12Ahead of the autumn where you might get colds or flu
20:15Now Barry's been running the group for about 10 years
20:18And his students tend to be between the ages of 70 and 80
20:21And they say that Tai Chi helps with their movement, their joints
20:24And provides a nice social group that they can come back to every week
20:27It empties my mind
20:29I always feel good afterwards
20:31He puts it on the video
20:34You can go home and follow it at home
20:36And I just find it really useful
20:38I feel much better after a session
20:42I feel that I've been exercising my body
20:45Especially balance
20:47Because I think balance is very important
20:49Especially as you get older
20:51Our balance can go a bit
20:53I find it very, very helpful
20:55And apart from the sociability of it all
20:59You know, with a group
21:01You seem to concentrate more on what you're doing
21:04Naturally I had to have a go myself
21:06And it did feel quite good, quite calming
21:09Like a meditation
21:10Although my balance might need work
21:12There was also a lot of emphasis on natural movements
21:14Like making sure we aren't moving our arms on their own
21:17But instead using the whole body for motion
21:19Starting with our hips and shoulders
21:21Now while it was a good stretch
21:24I think I'd need to come back a few more times
21:26Before I could look like I had any idea what I was doing
21:28Finn McDermid for KMTV in Barham
21:31Next, Gillingham's fanbase is mostly located here in Kent
21:39But around the world there's been a few fans of the Gilles
21:43Well you might not expect
21:44In Belgium there's a group of friends
21:47United by their love of the club
21:49One of whom is joining me now
21:51All the way from Belgium
21:52A very long swim away from Kent
21:54That's Dimitri
21:55Hello Dimitri
21:56Thank you so much for joining us
21:59First of all
22:00Can you please tell me about the moment
22:02When you first discovered Gillingham FC?
22:07Yes, it was in 2014
22:09I went with a friend to see Charlton Athletic
22:13But we waste time in pub in Faber-Sham
22:18And so instead we went to Gillingham
22:22And it was a revelation for me
22:25The stadium in the heart of the city
22:27The patience of the fans
22:28And a 2-0 victory
22:30With a goal from McDonald's and Dak
22:32So I fell in love with the Gilles
22:34And it's now 11 years
22:37And I was lucky to meet some other fans
22:43In Belgium and in France
22:45So now we are a dozen of fans
22:49Coming three or four times by season
22:53We went to away games also
22:58To Portsmouth, Wrexham, Wolverhampton, Newport
23:03And Arrogate
23:06So it's very friendly
23:08I have a lot of friends in Gillingham
23:12And in Kent in general
23:14So I'm very happy to
23:17It was a dream for me
23:18To support an English club
23:20So the dream comes true
23:23That's great
23:24And I suppose there are lots of famous English clubs
23:27Clubs like maybe Chelsea
23:29Or Manchester United
23:31Have big international fans
23:33But maybe less so the Gilles
23:35So can you tell us a bit more
23:36About why you really fell in love
23:39With Gillingham FC
23:41Yes, as I explained
23:43It's a club with the stadium
23:49In the centre of the city
23:51And also it's very close to me
23:52It's Nidia Dover
23:53It's the gate to go to the United Kingdom
23:58So it's very easy for us
24:00And I don't like commercial
24:04And big football clubs
24:06Too much money
24:07And it's very authentic
24:10I think it's authentic football here
24:12It's real football
24:15Absolutely
24:17And of course
24:18The Belgian Gilles
24:20It's not just yourself
24:21So can you please tell us
24:23About all of you
24:25About the line-up
24:26And how that group
24:27Came to happen
24:28Came to be
24:29Yeah, but
24:32All the continental people
24:34Appreciate English football
24:38Because it's the
24:40The birthplace of football
24:43And it's like a religion
24:46For us it's very impressive
24:49And a lot of the continental people
24:51Follow English clubs
24:52And also in the lower division
24:55I have Belgian fans
24:56From Crowley
24:58From Mansfield
24:59From other clubs
25:01So I'm not alone
25:04And in Wallonia
25:08The French-speaking part of Belgium
25:10Where I live
25:10There is no club playing in blue
25:13Look, it's very easy
25:16To have people
25:17Because we don't have this colour
25:19In the region
25:20So we can unit
25:22All together
25:23To support the club
25:25And I have a lot of friends
25:27Who come with me
25:28To see the Gilles
25:31Absolutely
25:33So it really
25:34So it really kind of is
25:34Aller les bleus
25:35Then for you
25:36Aller les bleus
25:38Any favourite moments
25:40From this season
25:41It's been a great one
25:42What have been your highlights
25:43Highlights?
25:44Well my first match in 2014
25:49Of course
25:50But the last
25:51My last away game
25:54Was in Newport
25:55Conti
25:56And it was a very good
25:58Memory
26:01With the 21
26:03Consecutive wins
26:06It was a very good day
26:10I was very happy
26:11To go to Wales
26:13And be with the supporters
26:17To celebrate the record
26:21It was a very good atmosphere
26:23Dimitri, thank you so much
26:26For joining us this evening
26:28And telling us more
26:29About the Belgian fanbase
26:31Around the Gilles
26:32It's been a pleasure
26:34Thank you very much
26:37You're welcome
26:38And that's full time
