00:00My name is Elizabeth Sherman, and I am the Robert A. and Elizabeth Roan Jeffy Chief Curator and Deputy Director here at the Museum of the City of New York.
00:09I'm standing inside Gingerbread NYC, our annual exhibition of home bakers' iconic New York landmarks made entirely out of gingerbread, royal icing, candy, and other edible goodies.
00:23One of the most special things about this exhibition is that the theme is always iconic New York City, and that means something different to every baker, to every New Yorker.
00:33We have the most iconic structures in the city. We have Lady Liberty and the Chrysler Building, and then we have the things that everyday New Yorkers consider iconic to them.
00:43The Chelsea Hotel, the Newtown Creek wastewater treatment plant, and while maybe usually the smallest icon, a bagel with lox and a cup of coffee,
00:53these really are the symbols that for those of us who live here in the city are iconic and identify us with the city we call home.
