00:00We are at Gingerbread NYC, the Great Borough Bake Off.
00:04This is our fourth year inviting professional and amateur bakers from across the five boroughs
00:10to render New York City icons in gingerbread here at the Museum of the City of New York.
00:15The Gingerbread event invites bakers from across the city
00:19to imagine the city's greatest icons in baked goods in edible form
00:27and create a winter wonderland here, a winter baked goods wonderland at the Museum.
00:34Some of my favorite of the 21 creations on view are the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Brooklyn
00:42which is an incredible icon for Brooklynites, but also a very, very technically complicated creation to bring to life.
00:52I love the A Tree Grows in Brooklyn street scene, the Statue of Liberty is here,
00:58and of course we have the Governor's Island Ferry, the Roosevelt Island Tram, the Christopher Street Subway Station,
01:06all of your transit in gingerbread right here at the Museum of the City of New York.
01:10In the past we've mostly had people create icons in buildings, consider buildings, and New York City icons on the street.
01:20But this year we actually had somebody create a New York City icon of food
01:26that Daigle and Cream Cheese is really one of the special ones we've got on view this year.
01:31Another one of my favorites is the Broadway show Gingerbread
01:37where you can see real characters from some of your favorite Broadway shows including
01:43Hamilton and The Lion King and Book of Mormon and Fiddler on the Roof
01:49all together on Broadway here in Gingerbread.
01:53So Gingerbread NYC is open through January 19th
01:57and we are having People's Choice voting through the first week in January
02:02so we invite everybody to stop in, vote for your favorite New York City icon.
02:07We will be announcing the award winners just after the New Year so vote soon
02:13and we look forward to seeing everybody here at the Museum.
