00:00the final home game of any college football season is cause for celebration senior day
00:14a perfect way to celebrate and remember all of the accomplishments of this group of leaders
00:21glad to have you with us in the magic city birmingham alabama protective stadium home
00:27to the uab blazers as we'll see a squad from the american the south florida bulls squaring off
00:35with another team from the american the uab blazers free sports college football i'm reese davis
00:42joined here in the group by a couple of legends and yes we do use that term loosely
00:47david from the university of georgia and former gator jesse palmer guys let's get down to the field
00:52coming out with it it's mccray really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make
01:02the stop at the 19. so the uab blazers offense will go on the attack first and david their quarterback
01:10hasn't always blown you away statistically but he is a guy that the coaches yeah and he'll show you
01:16some flashes of why you should trust him but here's the thing this is not a guy that we're saying go
01:22win me the football that's not where he's at right now in his career jesse he's a guy that needs the
01:27others that they gotta help him out they gotta play on schedule not make those mistakes and guys really
01:33play well around yeah david the one thing quarterbacks don't want to be referred to as
01:37is a game manager but that's really more what this guy is you're right they have to be able to run the
01:42football they can't turn it over they gotta play great defense if they do that in this game he's good
01:47enough to get this one they'll snap it on first down from the 35
01:57looking to throw it's kitna got it in the middle it's milner they'll get him at the 45 but he got
02:0510 on that one the blazers will snap it on first and 10
02:15looking downfield on first down the short hands it's milner creates a little space
02:22boy are they loving that huge play he's got it down to the nine
02:26well after that last play you can see how electrifying this guy is and how special he is
02:32after he makes the catch if i'm on offense i'm trying to find a lot of ways to get him touches in
02:38this game he's gonna lose a yard on that one well there's a statement by the defensive line first down
02:45play expecting run and they just dominated up front beat their one-on-ones and forced a tackle for a loss
02:54he's got it on move good throwing catch takes it down to the five as the offense tries to cash in
03:01they've pushed it forward down to the five but now looking at third and goal
03:06under fire and the pressure was too much they get him at the 15. all right defense nice job early in
03:16the game playing well with your backs against the wall the job's not over yet though this is an
03:22offense that has shown that they can go forward on fourth down especially during these situations
03:26and the field goal unit is on the field
03:41he splits the uprights and the first points of the day come on that field goal
03:47and you want to touch down and you want to be aggressive but man right down the middle that
03:51obviously gives me some confidence down the road that i can trust this guy
03:55so they are lining up to kick it off after that last drive put a three spot on the board and
04:01now the defense will try to shut him down he'll start to return inside the spot he was looking for
04:08some running room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18. so usf's offense will have its
04:15first possession of the game as we take a quick look at the impact players for today's game what players
04:21did you guys look to for motivation to make an impact during your playing days jesse well it was
04:25the guys we relied on each and every week we came into the season expecting got these types of guys to
04:31be our biggest weapons and every week those were the guys that had to deliver for us in order to have
04:36success and it's just fun to have those those guys that are consistent like they lead by example
04:41then they start to learn their voice and lead the team but every week guys that you can count on they
04:46punch the clock and they're hard workers off play action using his legs to buy some time
04:55and they couldn't make the connection on the long shot
04:59love the coverage on the back end by the defense on that play in the scramble type situations the
05:04quarterback's rolling out to his right everything breaks down and it really gets hard on these
05:08defenders to have to stay with their man but a good job there by the defense
05:13oh he's got a chance he'll step out of bounds right at the 35 yard line and maybe they've got something
05:20cooking and usually when a qb takes off and scrambles it's because the defense didn't do a great job
05:27keeping lane integrity not keeping him in the pocket letting him get outside and then he can do damage
05:34it's the next play that you have to play instead of this just the original pass so defense has got to
05:39do a better job of keeping that guy in the pocket brown will throw it moves it in it's singleton
05:48he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's gonna go
05:59a solid gain on that one and it goes for not as the penalty will back them up
06:03all right here comes the offense on second down
06:17on the run it ties it oh he's got some space and they swarm him under
06:25and i know it's not a first down um but i still like the way they they ran the football here just
06:30try to make the next third down manageable try to get it where it's not as predictable
06:34i think the offense did a really good job being smart there taking what the defense gave
06:39in the double coverage and they made him pay it's intercepted
06:44and they'll drag him down after a good return on the interception
06:48and he makes a play in the back end nice job reading the pass and that's his second of the season
06:53this guy unbelievable job seeing the quarterback breaking on the quarterback and going and getting
06:59that big play
07:12uab has the ball back ready to send the offense out to go to work
07:16so they've put up some early points and now to build on this three nothing lead powers through the
07:21defender all right guys let's look at the situation for you ap it has been a season to forget and
07:28honesty compels us to say changes are probably coming i'm not sure but i think reese davis just
07:34fired a coach is that what i heard i'm pretty sure that's what just happened listen hasn't gone well
07:39you've heard the outside noise continued to get louder and louder haven't met expectations and this
07:44is the business we live in in college sports when you get paid a lot of money to do a job and you
07:49don't perform listen at the end of the day in college football it's results oriented they've
07:53lost football games this year and so all signs right now pointing to them potentially making that
07:58change before next season if they're going to stay competitive and they're going to feel the
08:01best team and program possible heading into next year then it looks as though a change is inevitable
08:07now to see if these guys can get back in the game in the second quarter
08:18so they had a chance to talk over this third down play to open the period
08:27scanning the field it's kidnapped
08:30unloads to the wideout complete downfield he's got enough for the first down they'll
08:36spot him at the 24-yard line and listen the defense knew coming into this one they were
08:42going to target him early and often he is a weapon and there's no mystery where the quarterback's going
08:47to be looking on critical down and distances let's see how they're able to cover him throughout the rest of
08:53this game the screen and watch out didn't pick up a lot there moved it forward just a few
09:01let's talk for just a second about you ap good pickup on the recruiting trail just last week three
09:07star defensive back a guy that could be a bit of a diamond in the rough but that type of talent
09:12is what they need to build that secondary man yeah and this is a program that's they're trying to build
09:17something they're trying to climb to that next level and this is how you do it you get players
09:22that your school can go out and get and now you let them play start to develop and turn into something
09:27great they go to the ground he's brought down at the seven yard line and they are threatening to take
09:35it in it'll be second down and remember they can pick up a first without scoring
09:47touch pass on the jet sweep the defense wouldn't let it loose and even though it's a completion they
09:53lost yardage the first thing you have to do to make these plays successful offensively is i have
09:59to block the edge i gotta get my speedster in space they didn't do a good job of getting that
10:04guy out there in space where he could really use his jets nice job by the defense understanding it
10:10seeing it rallying to it and tackling that guy for a loss and they've got him down after the short
10:15completion but they inch closer and closer to pater fourth down and four yards to go the offense will
10:23try to get it motion from the back he'll try to throw it pick up the first down
10:29it's dropped and oh what a tough way to end this drive the decision to go for it does not pan out
10:40the bulls backed up deep in their own end trying to create a little space on first down
10:46running to green turning it on big pickup on the ground here to keep this drive moving and give them a first down
10:55that is exactly what you want from your offense create some space get out of the shadow of your
11:00own end zone palmer and make it easier on this offense yeah it's nice when you have a running
11:04back like that too that can create that space for you now if you're the play caller your entire playbook
11:10is wide open and the bulls after exploding for that huge run back to work here we go
11:16rides to back on the option to give defense there to stop him after a two-yard game to the 31.
11:25and the defense doing a great job committing to the run when you commit to the run like this obviously
11:31you can give up some plays in the passing game but you got to stop the run first
11:35ground wants to pass pressure all over the quarterback and down he goes at the 24
11:45man oh man that doing that man had a great get off on that play exploded out of his three-point
11:50stance he's able to use the swim move and get to the qb now a lot of work to do to move the chains
11:56keep this drive alive after that earlier sack gets rid of it intercepted a first half turnover can swing
12:05momentum got some room to run they'll be stopped but not before getting the football and picking up
12:13big yardage on the return what a play there
12:26and the blazers trying to cash it in on first and goal
12:44they'll try to get it in with the run
12:46and to the end zone he goes touchdown uab
12:52offense did exactly what he's supposed to do with a start like that one
12:56when you're set up with that field position you're thinking touchdowns you're not thinking field
13:00goals it's exactly what the offense does takes advantage of great field position
13:18now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic
13:20and with the extra point they push the lead out a little further and for a quick update
13:30let's go to kevin conners in the studio weekend and week out guys you never know what's going to
13:35happen in college football check this out georgia state is trailing right now but i'm not ready to
13:42say this team is out of not after the way this group has rallied around that coach it really has been
13:48something to see it's a touchdown game they're trailing by seven to troy sun belt fun belt and
13:57we'll circle back if anything big happens you need to know about and how about that one kevin will be
14:02keeping an eye on everything going on elsewhere the bulls in the hurry up and it's frustrating as
14:08a defense when you give up that first down and you give up that pass play but here we go with this
14:12offense they're right back on the ball you got to flush that you got to get lined up and you got to
14:16communicate solid pick up a four on first down at second and six and after that run getting right
14:22back up to the line of scrimmage to go hurry up defense has to be ready fires to the tight end
14:28works his way to the 41 and that is plenty to give him a first down and the bulls come to the line with
14:35a new set of downs on the run it's north and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to
14:43wedge it back to the line of scrimmage well this is a defense that we know takes tons of pride
14:49stopping the run that's where it all starts and ends with them and you saw a great effort on that last
14:54play let's go they got nothing on the last play it's second and ten
14:59keeps it on the bootleg looking to throw and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was
15:08not loose and third down is coming what a hit by the defender that's a good throw and that was going
15:14to be caught but how about the defender dislodging the football from its intended target nice job
15:20with the catch it's isaac he's going to come up about five yards short of the line to gain
15:30the bulls will punt it away on fourth down first time we've seen their punt team this afternoon
15:37first one is away and boy did he put him working that loss last week kicking it five times
15:42first play of this drive comes from the 14-yard line
15:53wants to throw on first down off the play fake i don't think that's the way they drew it up incomplete
16:00that's a throw the qb would like to have back it just has to do a better job giving
16:04his receiver a chance to make the catch the play action fake pocket breaking down nowhere close on
16:15that one as he got drilled trying to deliver the football and now they face third down
16:21trying to pick up a first down
16:23fight off the defender stopped in the backfield he's going to lose three yards on the play
16:36the blazers will bring the punt team onto the field
16:42he gets his first one of the day out of there they used him three times in that loss last week
16:47and the coverage team able to make the tackle
16:56south florida ready to send the offense back onto the field running out of time here in the first
17:01half they do have a chance to make this a one possession game and so you got to locate your best
17:07player going over the top and the db right with him to knock it away well at this juncture of the game
17:16obviously the offense has struggled no points up on the board you're at the end of the first half
17:20and you're just trying to make something happen that time the quarterback thought he had a guy open
17:24way down the field but again the defense in perfect position and that thing falls incomplete quickly to the
17:31tight end he gets it across the 40 and out of bounds at the 38. it's so important that this offense is
17:38able to stay on schedule what that means is keeping third downs manageable that last completion to the
17:44tight end accomplished just that really nice play and the bulls really need to keep this drive alive
17:52on third down caught behind the line it's norton now they're really starting to threaten as they pick
18:00up the first down at the 34 yard line we've got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try
18:07to get more points on the board before the break here we go they've got a first and 10 at the 34 let's go
18:18use the play fake now to throw looking for the end zone almost intercepted they took a shot on
18:25first down and just about turned the thing over i think the biggest issue in the passing game for
18:31this offense has been accuracy right the last time this guy took the field he completed less than
18:3550 of his throws and you're seeing that again in this game just hasn't been able to put the ball
18:41where he wants it to go intercepted a first half turnover can swing momentum and they get the
18:49takeaway and prevent points from going up just before the end of the half who says defensive backs don't
18:55have hands nice job breaking the football and making the catch a lot of times you see guys
19:00swat it down or you see him trying to catch it looks like they have two left hands
19:03defense packs don't catch real well nice job breaking on the football nice job securing the int
19:09and actually catching
19:18okay inside 30 seconds to play in the half we'll see how aggressive they are on this drive
19:23easy looking for a man it's kitna throws to the wide out got a man it's hooked quick time out from
19:35the offense to save precious seconds great spot to attack there right off the turnover try to strike
19:42and keep them reeling absolutely coaching 101 sudden change when you create a turnover and you get the ball
19:48back on offense attack attack attack use the momentum try to make a big play connection to the right
19:57we've got a timeout in the waning seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more plays
20:03running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points
20:07on the board before the break wants to go up top on first down and the rush will get to him at the 25
20:16final seconds of the first half and they'll try to put up three the offense wastes no time getting
20:23the timeout call and in the final seconds of the first half they'll send out the field goal unit
20:29he'll try to put one down the boulevard from 42 yards up and this one is perfect and that will extend
20:38their lead even further at the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join kevin and our
20:43half time update gentlemen what a pleasure it's been to watch these two teams thus far there in
20:49birmingham and yes football is a game of inches but man is that really the case when you consider the
20:57length of some of these possessions look i'm not an analytics guy but i do know this the team that
21:03sustains drives and just moves the sticks might be the team that comes out on top today and with that
21:11let's send it back to the guys at protective stadium
21:25and the blazers will line up to kickoff and start the second half
21:38on the run from inside his own five
21:47nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22.
21:53south florida has it back and the burles offense will return to the field a big reason they find
21:59themselves trailing to start the second half those two turnovers in the first yeah and i think coaches
22:04will tell you the number one thing that you got to make sure you do is take care of the football
22:08you want to create explosives you want to put up a bunch of yards but step one jesse taking care of
22:12the football it just goes to show you how critical those mistakes are only two plays that's really
22:17what separates this team from potentially having the lead if they clean up the errors they've got a
22:22chance to win this game got away from trouble and got rid of it looks as if we have an injury on that
22:28last play and we'll take a break to check him out
22:45the bulls come to the line on third and short looking to keep this drive moving
22:49they'll run play action got him downfield great pickup as they'll keep this drive moving and
22:59they've got it at the 45. and the bulls come to the line with a fresh set of downs
23:09leaves it with the back gets it past the first down marker and still running all down but he has enough
23:17to move the chains well you wonder if one of the adjustments they made at halftime trailing in this
23:23game was to try and get the ground game established david they're off to a good start here dang right
23:28stay patient you don't have to worry about it you don't have to press just try to get scoring drives
23:33together don't abandon them and after a successful run like that on first down if you're the offensive
23:39coordinator here maybe you're thinking about being aggressive and potentially taking a shot because
23:44even if it's incomplete now on second you only have a short amount of yards to go here on third
23:49and the db forcing the incomplete pass with the deflection man down on the play as the officials
23:55take a break to let him be checked out
23:57and this offense can ill afford to come up empty on this drive already trailing by multiple possessions
24:15more will throw got out of trouble got rid of it just a short pass to the tight end he'll pick up a few
24:22before being knocked out of bounds at the 31. the offense really struggled in the first half of this
24:29game so it was important coming out of halftime they were able to generate some momentum and get some
24:33rhythm offensively and right now they look like they have it on this drive great news to see the
24:39quarterback make that last throw there to pick up the first down they need him to play great in the
24:43second half what a nice job by the defense to string it out not give him any kind of alley and knock him
24:49down for a loss hit a little speed bump on this drive it's second and 12. here we go here we go
25:01off the play fake fires to the middle it's caught and fire the completion there in the red zone and set
25:09up at the 13. zone coverage means everybody's looking at the quarterback so now when i'm a wide
25:17receiver i gotta make sure i know i fit in the hole between these zones i know where they're dropping to
25:23and i know where i need to get to great job by the wide receiver finding that hole and the quarterback
25:31going to work in the red zone they can't pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone
25:35looking to fire moving keeping the eyes downfield touchdown south florida grab the short pass to put
25:46the six on the board hey when everything else is covered sometimes you just gotta look to the big
25:51fella i mean it might not be the right matchup but i got the size i can throw to him and he rewards
25:57you with the score ready to try the point after and the pat will draw them one point closer let's go
26:17to the studio now and check in with kevin connors kevin what do you got fellas take a gander at what's
26:22happening in this interesting battle in the pac-12 oregon state looks like it sent the jv squad out
26:29there today an offense that can't move the sticks and a defense that looks awful so unlike this program
26:37they're trailing by 14 to san diego state if anything changes in this pivotal pac-12 matchup guys you know
26:46we're here to bring it to you oh and how about that i know kevin and those guys will be keeping an eye
26:50on it for us he misses his man the accuracy just not what it needed to be on that play behind the chains
26:59now on second and long trying to play action he lofted high and deep down the left side and they
27:11wanted it all on that incomplete pass instead they're looking at third down now this offense
27:17tries to figure out a way to move the chains after the second down misfire back to throw it's kitna
27:25got his man downfield and they reacted well to the completion but it was too late to keep them from
27:31getting the first down from the 39 yard line it's first and ten
27:36looking to throw on first down here comes the heat and the defense makes a play and they get
27:47the quarterback down at the 26. 13. well quarterback went down behind center pretty quick that time and
27:53it makes you wonder as a play caller against this pass rush do you start thinking about maybe rolling your
27:58quarterback out and changing the launch point
28:08got it the blazers now with a long way to go to pick up the first down
28:15now the play fake fires to the big fellow bounced off his feet and that's why they got to keep running
28:23the football man because play action is going to be a big part of this game plan you've got to get this
28:27tight end over the middle of the field vertically and give him an opportunity because you just saw
28:32how dangerous he is after the catch
28:36he won't get there it'll bring up fourth down
28:40and the blazers send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away
28:45everybody stays in their lanes well enough and they stop him at the 31 yard line
29:01south florida ready to send the offense back onto the field first play of this drive will start from
29:07the 31 yard line and some room to work brought down at the 47 but not before he ripped off 15
29:16as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the quarter
29:21they'll give it to him again and as they get into the ground clock running looks as if time will expire
29:28here in the third we've reached the break it's uab on top and as we switch ends of the field let's take a
29:35quick look at the national rankings when you're dealing with a deficit like this it's all about
29:46somebody stepping up to make a play and you might as well start here in the fourth quarter
29:52it'll be second down as we open the final stanza
30:06off play action fires on the move a strike downfield slicing and dicing through this defense and they've
30:15got it down to the 23. well how about the offense setting that play up we've seen earlier in the game
30:21a couple shorter throws they're just trying to suck those safeties closer to the line of scrimmage
30:26anticipating that they would get an opportunity to take a shot they called the perfect play
30:32at the perfect time right there the bulls getting set on first and ten he leaves it with his back
30:39fighting off the defender tough run gets it into the red zone and they knock him down at the 17.
30:46defense man you got to go low and you got to chop that tree down right go with the legs
30:51take the legs out from underneath them so he can't continue to turn those puppies out and get extra yards
30:56got some room headed to the goal line he's all the way down to the three showed it all on that run
31:04when the running back gets going and gets ahead of steam like that so hard to get to the ground
31:10that's why you blitz that's why you bring pressure that's why you bring more guys in the box so you
31:15can get him before he gets going but once he got going you could tell it was hard to get a hand on
31:19him hard to get him to the ground and he's swallowed up at the line of scrimmage by the big defensive tackle
31:27stopping the run is about physicality it's about i'm bigger than you i'm stronger than you up front
31:32really nice job by the defense showing their strength bowing up stuffing the run now try to
31:38pass that way in he's got it down in the one yard line right on the doorstep of pater
31:44well he gets tackled down at the one yard line so offensively do you feel confident enough on
31:49third here trying to hand it off yeah and i'm taking both these downs and i'm coming downhill i'm running
31:55the football trying to get this in the end zone i only got a yard to go i gotta be physical looks as if we
32:01have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out
32:18trailing and getting deep in the game they'll go for it here on fourth and goal
32:23banner banner banner they'll try to sneak it sneaks into the end zone and how about make no mistake
32:32about it line up bring in the big boys you know you probably have a good idea of what i'm trying to
32:37accomplish fourth down situation and the offense comes through playing a little physical playing with
32:43a little physicality a little muscle
32:49setting up for the extra point that would put them on top
32:53and they did have to knock through the extra point to move on top and they have the lead in the fourth
33:00they took it 68 yards on that drive it was finished off with the quarterback sneak
33:05looking for block
33:13and the return man reaches the end of the line and down he goes
33:18uab regains possession the blazer offense back onto the field another opportunity here they had to
33:24punt it on their last possession but this time tight game hoping to get something on the board
33:30he's got an open man a little more space open up that playbook even more as they pick up the first
33:36down out to the 30. passing game kept his drive moving let's see if they try it again
33:44off play action on first down looking to take a shot
33:51and it was worth going for a chunk play but the long pass is incomplete
33:55yeah i don't know if the quarterback got confused on first down he might have thought the defense
34:00was going to be in man coverage that time but they were in zone they fooled him and just didn't
34:05seem like he had his eyes in the right place was forcing that ball to his intended target the
34:09window way too small the guy was not open so that didn't have a chance to be complete
34:14now this offense facing a third and long from their own 30. looking downfield is kitna
34:25rushes on him and he just throws it away that is not what you're looking for on third down
34:31fourth down coming up the blazers will line up to punt it away he's going to try to flip the field with
34:37this one
34:42let's see what he can do with it and he'll work his way on the return out to the 35 yard line before he
34:48stopped south florida has it back in the bulls offense will return to the field
34:55they'll run it to keep this clock grinding they'll get him at the 45 but he got 10 on that one
35:04i know exactly what i have to do here defensively we got to get the stop so we're playing run we're
35:09selling out to run because we're thinking they're going to run the football and we got three timeouts
35:13let's use them wisely let's use those timeouts save as much clock as we can so our offense has some time
35:20on the clock to do some damage when they get the football back well they dial up on second and a long
35:26way to go leaves it with the back and he never had a chance just stopped cold as soon as he got it
35:34defense doing their job getting that last stop and now third in california not a lot of play calls
35:39to convert this so defensively let's get off the field now the clock's running going downfield for the big play
35:46and they've wanted it all on third down but now dealing with fourth down and the bulls will try to
35:54pin them back with the punt this will be the second time they've had to kick it away and he doesn't feel
36:00it it cleanly it's loose that's a huge blow offensive possessions are already limited now with time
36:07running out in the fourth quarter and you're losing and to give the ball away and give one of those
36:11possessions away it's not over yet but man did you make your job a lot harder now the offense will try
36:17to run out the clock with the lead going to the ground he is going nowhere stop at the line of
36:25scrimmage defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense
36:33got stuffed on first down it's second and ten they'll go to the ground
36:38stuff on back-to-back plays he got nothing and now they're looking at third and long
36:46great job by the defense everybody firing off the ball hitting their guys holding their gaps
36:51running to the football nowhere to go
36:52they will stop him short and the defense trying to keep him alive i'll tell you this defensive end
37:01not only can he pass rush but he can play the run as well you see beat the offensive lineman there
37:06trying to block him and get in the backfield to make that tackle for loss that was impressive
37:11two minute timeout arrives and this defense desperately needs to get the football back
37:17so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world
37:24he just barely got enough of that one and just barely kept it straight enough too
37:30they push the lead to four here in the fourth
37:34hey listen y'all know in the booth and everywhere how i feel about kickers don't always love leaving
37:39it on their foot so to speak but nice job executing he keeps doing stuff like that i'll keep trotting him out
37:45there he'll bring it back from inside his spot really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down
37:57there and make the stop at the 19. uab has the ball back ready to send the offense out to go to work
38:05so they start this drive from inside their own 20 at the 19 yard line they weren't able to move it on
38:11their last possession ended up hunting it away but now in a tight game another opportunity for this offense
38:17base to grab almost to the first down marker but a good pickup on that one
38:23and the blazers in a good spot here with second and short
38:26quarterback on the keeper and the defense holds firm no pickup at all on that play
38:33to the air it's kitna he's taking a deep shot late in the game makes the grab along the sidelines and
38:46they get enough for the first down the blazers come to the line with a new set of downs
38:52moves first down baby to the air on first down that's real and it's fine
39:00caught and he's close to the first down on the nice pickup there
39:04clock's running and they'll try to get to the line warp speed for second down
39:10back to throw and he needs to make a play going for it all
39:14touchdown blazers and the final moment taking the lead who can you count on those big moments who
39:24can make those big plays who can you trust and they trust the receiver to run a go and to run
39:30right by the db he makes the play breaks the tie takes the lead for this football team
39:36and let's hold on just a minute here as the officials are going to have a second look
39:56and they take another look at the play with the officials on the field we're right and the play
40:08will stand this one's big to make sure they can't beat you with a field goal
40:18and he knocks it through and the lead is a field goal here in the fourth quarter
40:22a very efficient five-way scoring drive and what a late touchdown in the final minute that is likely
40:30the game winner here he wisely lets that one bounce through the back of the end zone and they'll take
40:35over at the 25. the drive starts from their own 25-yard line
40:44off the play fake on first down here's a throw downfield late
40:50really nice job there by the safety back in the middle of the field you see his range and speed
40:55he's able to close on the ball and then knock it away nice play got to move quickly here they need
41:01to get it to field goal range more to the air excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away
41:12and this thing's been very solid all across the board and it's got to be a fun unit to coach
41:17especially when you got quarterbacks out wide that you can just depend on you can leave them on islands
41:21you can vary coverages and you see it right here he breaks on the football he understands where it's
41:27going and that's such a luxury to have a guy out there that you can trust for a whole football game
41:34the offense takes a timeout with 30 seconds left got to give this defense tons of credit how good have
41:40they been on the back end and coverage just feels like every time this qb is throwing the ball it's been
41:45contested they haven't given up a lot of yards and they need to continue to be great in coverage with
41:50the lead in this two-minute situation
41:55all kinds of room to throw that one in there down a little bit of room to operate but he'll be stopped
42:01just short of the first down
42:05wants to pass the clock an enemy he'll get rid of it got his man they get the timeout called 11
42:14seconds remaining to play
42:20timeout they'll put it in play from the 41 on first down
42:29use the play fake now to throw fires toward the end zone the pass is incomplete and the clock will
42:36stop with five seconds left they're dealing with a second and long
42:44the play action fake fires to the middle he had that one slip to the ground and if he had held on that
42:52might have been a wrap instead it'll be third down and now this offense will try to figure out a way to
42:58move the chains after that second he's going to fire deep going toward the end zone pick off right at
43:05the goal line he'll try to take it back and a tremendous wave for this defense to finish the
43:12interception as the clock reaches zero it has been said that the obstacle is the way and this obstacle is
43:19now back-to-back losses back-to-back l's um it's not the end of the world though i still think there's time
43:25for this team to figure out what they're going to do how they're going to finish the season strong
43:30it's not over yet two bad weeks flush it down the toilet refocus the mechanism we're ready to rock and
43:36roll next week it just needs to be about finding a way to win a game right now in all likelihood 99.9
43:43chance the college football playoff now is not a possibility anymore that's okay let's worry about
