00:00Tonight will be someone's final chapter.
00:02This is what I've been waiting for.
00:04This look was fabulous.
00:05I mean, it's fantastic.
00:07This is impeccable.
00:08The first designer to make it to the finale is...
00:11Charles.
00:12Yay!
00:13The second designer joining us in the finale is...
00:17Curtis.
00:18Oh, my God.
00:23Foster and Leland,
00:26you are both so talented in your own rights,
00:29but only one of you can move on to the finale.
00:32I feel so proud of myself that I didn't give up
00:35and I made it this far.
00:37Honestly, I've given them everything.
00:40Y'all know how badly I want this.
00:42I am sweating in so much rhinestone neoprene right now.
00:51Leland.
00:52You are in and you will be moving on to the finale.
01:01Congratulations.
01:02Thank you, guys.
01:03I really appreciate it.
01:04Thank you so much.
01:05I can't believe it.
01:07It all paid off.
01:08I've never been this proud before.
01:10Foster, that means you are out.
01:13I am so proud of the work I did.
01:16You know, it's been a journey
01:18and I'm so honored to be standing here
01:21with these three incredible designers.
01:23Foster, I can tell your class act.
01:26And I'm so impressed of you.
01:28Do not change that.
01:29Can I give you a big, big hug?
01:30Thank you so much.
01:31Come here.
01:32Thank you so much.
01:33Thank you so much.
01:34Congratulations.
01:35That's the love.
01:42Oh.
01:43Foster.
01:44Surprise, surprise.
01:45I want you to know that you have made me the proudest mentor.
01:53How do you feel?
01:55I guess I'm emotional in a way.
01:57It's always sad to get to the brink of something that you want
02:01and not have it.
02:02Watching you grow and develop has been absolutely insane.
02:08And you're really talented.
02:10Thank you, Aurora.
02:11Can I give you a hug?
02:12Thank you so much.
02:14This does not take anything away from me.
02:16I wanted to see if I should stay in the business
02:19or have I just been telling myself a lie.
02:22But I'm a great designer.
02:23I just didn't win $100,000.
02:25But I'm excited about the future.
02:28Congratulations to our fabulous trio.
02:33Woo.
02:34You have made it to the finale.
02:36Are you ready to hear about your final challenge?
02:40Yeah.
02:41You will each have seven weeks and $10,000 to create your own collection of 10 looks.
02:51This is your chance to show your voice.
02:54And most importantly, why you deserve a feature spread in Elle Canada magazine.
03:00From TD, a career launching investment of $100,000.
03:05And the title of Canada's next great fashion designer.
03:10Before you go, us judges have some advice for you.
03:15You are three incredibly talented individuals in personality and in style.
03:25Leland, you are a master craftsman.
03:28But we question your ability to not be referential.
03:33You need to give us something that is authentically Leland in this finale.
03:39Curtis, we love your historical references.
03:43But we're really hoping to see some modernity in your final collection.
03:46Charles.
03:48We know a Charles design the moment it comes down that runway.
03:52But for your final collection, we need to be wowed like never before.
03:59Challenge accepted.
04:01All the best with your collections.
04:03And I can't wait to see what you come up with.
04:06Now go celebrate.
04:07We did it.
04:08We did it.
04:09We did it.
04:11We'll miss you.
04:12Bye.
04:13We'll miss you too.
04:14We did it.
04:19We made it.
04:20We're top three.
04:21I'm so excited for this.
04:25Woo.
04:26Top three.
04:29Top three.
04:30I'm smiling like a little kid.
04:33My cheeks hurt.
04:34My cheeks hurt.
04:35I'm going to push myself so hard.
04:37This feels incredible.
04:38I've worked harder than I've ever worked in my entire life.
04:42And it paid off.
04:43Thank God.
04:45Thank God.
04:46Oh my God.
04:47Oh my God.
04:50Final three.
04:51What?
04:52Hey.
04:53Pass.
04:54May I propose a toast for the final three to ten looks each and the chance to really show
05:02Canada who you are.
05:04Cheers.
05:05Cheers.
05:06Cheers.
05:07Cheers.
05:09Take it all in, and remember, tomorrow, the real work starts.
05:14I'll be checking in.
05:16Bye, Aurora.
05:17Thank you for everything.
05:19It's hot for us.
05:22At stake for the winner from TD, a career-launching investment of $100,000
05:28and a feature in Elle Canada magazine
05:31with global supermodel Coco Rocha.
05:34Fashion designer Spencer Badu
05:36creative director Aurora James
05:39and legendary fashion journalist Jeanne Becker.
05:42This is Project Runway Canada.
05:55Getting home, I just feel like a serenity over myself.
05:58This is my neighborhood.
06:00This is my hood.
06:02My shop in Chinatown means the world to me.
06:05That's where I'm making the finale collection.
06:08This is huge.
06:09Realistically, I've got four out of ten looks about halfway done,
06:14and I've never made a collection before.
06:16So it feels a little scary being the person that has to make all of the decisions.
06:21When I was coming into this, I was afraid that I was going to be labeled as the costume designer,
06:27but I made incredible high fashion garments.
06:30I listened to the critiques, and this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show the world this is who I am.
06:36Ma, I'm just going to put this over here, okay?
06:41Yeah, sure, babe.
06:42How do you feel about Aurora seeing the collection?
06:45I feel good about it.
06:47It is looking really cool and high fashion-y so far.
06:51I really want this to be a punk rock Chinatown collection.
06:56I feel so confident in it and so excited to show it off.
07:01It's going to be good.
07:02Ma, you're going to be front row going, hmm.
07:04You too, Poppa.
07:05You're going to go...
07:08Everybody's going to say, Leland Mitchell.
07:11And I'm going to say, yes, he's my son.
07:13Yes, he's my son.
07:14It's been a month, and I am so excited to check in with the designers.
07:21I want to see some risks.
07:22There's $100,000 on the line.
07:25My first visit is with Leland, and I still have some questions
07:28about whether Leland is a fashion designer or a costume designer.
07:31Oh, my God!
07:33Hi!
07:34Hi!
07:35Bring it in.
07:36I'm so happy to be here.
07:39This is my mom, Barb.
07:40So nice to meet you.
07:41Nice to meet you.
07:42This is my Chinese grandma, Ying, my Poppa.
07:45You kind of grew up in here.
07:47100%.
07:48They've owned this place since the 60s.
07:51Is he living your dream?
07:53Yes, he is.
07:54He's my twin.
07:56Oh, Ma.
07:57It's in our genes.
07:58I'm very, very proud to see Leland accomplishing his goal.
08:02In the Chinese culture, you don't talk about your emotions.
08:06And just having my mom realize and see everything, it feels incredible.
08:12Oh, Ma.
08:13Any design advice that you give Leland?
08:16Don't overthink things.
08:18Keep it very basic.
08:19Oh!
08:20Wow!
08:21That doesn't feel like a Leland thing ever.
08:23I don't know about that one, Ma.
08:24I feel so seen right now.
08:27I cannot wait to see this collection.
08:30Shall we?
08:31Let's do it.
08:32Goodbye.
08:33With Leland, I'm really expecting something that's colorful.
08:36I'm imagining sequins or sparkle.
08:38I'm just hoping that it's chic.
08:42So come on in.
08:44Oh, my gosh.
08:45Look at all of this.
08:46Yes!
08:47Wow!
08:48Absolutely incredible.
08:53The dragon.
08:54Oh, my God.
08:55Puff.
08:56Love him.
08:57Hyena.
08:58Bruce.
08:59In a top hat.
09:00In the top.
09:01He's dapper, you know?
09:02Never seen a stuffed hyena in someone's house before.
09:04There is nothing subtle about Leland.
09:06How has it been for you the last month?
09:08I've learned so much through this competition.
09:11I feel wiser.
09:12I feel ready to build a collection.
09:14So I can already see everything kind of coming together.
09:18One thing that I'm really leaning into this collection is my heritage and who I am as a person.
09:23I really want to mix Scottish plaids with some Chinese embellishments.
09:29And I've had this idea just swimming in the back of my mind for years.
09:32So what I've actually done here is this is a heat transfer vinyl that I've done in a branch pattern all across the skirt fabric.
09:40And then after I'm done that, I literally hand, like, stitch each individual cherry blossom on.
09:46This, to me, screams what I would be wearing out.
09:50All right.
09:51There definitely is a lot going on here.
09:53There's no shortage of color.
09:55This yellow is, like, very yellow with the pink.
09:57Yup.
09:58It's giving theme.
09:59Theme.
10:00Okay.
10:01I understand it's a lot.
10:02But this is what I do.
10:04Sparkly plaids with too much on it.
10:07Is every look in this collection plaid?
10:10No.
10:11Seven to eight.
10:14Ah!
10:15I'm concerned there's just too much plaid.
10:18Right now, I'm not sold.
10:20Because it's just so on the nose.
10:22This is only for looks, though.
10:23Are there going to be looks that are slightly more subtle?
10:27I can show you a few little sketches of these.
10:29Sure.
10:30I'm so excited for this one because it's going to be, like, a bagpipe skirt.
10:33Oh, wow.
10:34That are going to be creating a fan effect behind the model.
10:38Okay.
10:39This is your finale look?
10:40Do you want to see the maybe finale look?
10:42I want to see the maybe finale look.
10:44I'm really leaning into, like, an anime Wong Chinese dragon moment, you know?
10:51Not what I would have chosen, but Leland will Leland.
10:56It just re-authenticates for me who Leland is.
11:01The bones are totally here.
11:03Like, to me, this is a really beautiful shape.
11:05I love the transfer that you've done onto it.
11:08Would love to see a leather pant on this.
11:10Like, make it wearable.
11:12Totally agree with you.
11:14It's also critical that you make a hero piece that is not solely the theme.
11:21Got it.
11:22What is the piece that Coco, that Jeannie, that everyone that's seeing is going to be like,
11:27Oh, I have to have this.
11:29I need Leland to give me something that can walk on the steps of the Met Gallop.
11:34Remember what your mom said.
11:36Keep it simple.
11:37Keep it basic.
11:38Remember?
11:39I'm not throwing away these designs.
11:41But one thing I think I really need to incorporate here is a tamed-down version of me.
11:47I'm gonna leave you to it.
11:49I will see you in a few weeks back at the workroom.
11:51Aw.
11:52Bye, Leland.
11:53Bye.
11:54For Leland, so much of his whole career has been about his clients making costumes for people.
12:00I don't know if Leland can figure all of this out in three weeks, but that's the assignment.
12:06I can't believe Aurora was in my house.
12:08Oh, my God.
12:12Returning home has been really great, but also a little bit isolating.
12:16I have a lot of work to get done, and I normally do bespoke one-of-one pieces.
12:22I've never done a collection of this scale before, so this is the ultimate challenge.
12:28Not only am I making a massive collection, I'm also holding up a mirror to myself as a designer,
12:33and really looking at who I am and what I want to present to the world, so it's pretty scary.
12:39With Curtis, I'm really looking forward to seeing something completely unique.
12:43Curtis is someone who's constantly surprised me, fascinated me, always piques my curiosity.
12:49Oh, my gosh.
12:50Oh, my gosh.
12:51Wow.
12:52I mean, this is very period, a little bit religious.
13:06Do you live here?
13:07Yeah, and my secret studio is hiding right behind that curtain.
13:10Oh, my gosh.
13:12Let's go take a peek.
13:14I'm really excited to have Aurora in here and get a fresh set of eyes on these garments,
13:19because right now I've got rose-tinted glasses on, and I know she's going to give it to me straight.
13:24Welcome to the studio.
13:26Oh, wow.
13:28I am obsessed.
13:31What is all of this?
13:33There's so much here.
13:34So this is my little altar, and a lot of my looks are referencing these very typical binary feminine and masculine characters.
13:43My inspiration for this collection is I spent so long being fearful of everybody else, but now it's time for people to start fearing me.
13:50Ooh, I love that.
13:52I mean, I will say, over the course of this competition, you have really blossomed, and it's been an absolute joy to see.
14:00I did not expect to grow and change as much as I did.
14:04I don't even recognize the designer I was at the beginning of this competition.
14:08Now I'm taking big swings, I'm doing experimental stuff, so I think there's no choice but to let me have that win.
14:15What is this?
14:17You're trying to spoil the surprise.
14:20I have a pretty ambitious idea for my final look.
14:24Okay.
14:25And I'm actually going to be constructing what is going to be an entire suit of armor created out of embossed tin.
14:33Whoa.
14:34This tin dress is going to be show-stopping.
14:37I don't think the judges have seen anything like this before, so I'm hoping to really shut it down with this look.
14:43The inspiration is amazing, but it feels like there's a lot going on.
14:48There are so many ideas in my head, and there's only ten looks, and I only have three more weeks, so I really got to figure out what looks are going to sell this collection.
14:58Wow.
15:00It might not look like it right now.
15:02Okay.
15:03But this is going to be my opening look.
15:05I've created this really beautiful, shattered lace, 17th century inspired corset piece.
15:10I think where I'm struggling is the bright white.
15:15It's just too harsh.
15:17The white makes this really expensive lace look cheap.
15:20Damn.
15:21Okay.
15:22Similarly, the first thing I noticed in this was the white.
15:26I think you're going to have to redo it.
15:28I might not have the time, but that doesn't mean I won't find the time.
15:31This needs to be fixed, and it needs to be fixed now.
15:34All right.
15:35Let's see this look.
15:37This one, I have to say, obsessed.
15:41Oh, thank God.
15:44This could be like a gala moment.
15:46I went for a walk, and I found football shoulder pads on the street, and I took it as a sign.
15:53Keep going here.
15:55I think that the gown is the perfect combination of historical reference, but modern, beautiful, and wearable.
16:02I mean, it's very good.
16:04But you have to keep reaching inside, pulling it out, and taking risks.
16:09Going into the finale, I do consider myself a bit of a dark horse.
16:14I only have one win under my belt.
16:16It's kind of intimidating, but now I'm done being fearful of everyone else.
16:21Hi.
16:22Hi.
16:23Hi.
16:24Hello.
16:25So great to meet you.
16:26Hi.
16:27So nice to meet you.
16:28Hi.
16:29You as well.
16:30This is my family.
16:31This is who's responsible.
16:34Did you always know that Curtis was going to be this incredible fashion designer?
16:40Yes.
16:41He did.
16:42Fashion's been his whole life.
16:43There's a shot Curtis could win this whole thing.
16:49He amazes us.
16:51Thanks, darling.
16:52He deserves it, because he works hard.
16:54He's very, very creative.
16:56When you went into this competition, I was scared for you.
17:00I was worried.
17:01How are you going to cope with it?
17:03And then the one thing you said to me is, I don't have the luxury of being afraid.
17:08If I'm going to make it in this industry, I need to step up.
17:12I need to show what I can do.
17:14And those were such grown-up words.
17:16I'm very proud of you at that moment.
17:18And now it's like a hundred times more.
17:21I love you, Mom.
17:22I love you, too.
17:23It's been such a pleasure meeting you both.
17:28Curtis, you have a lot to do.
17:31I do.
17:32I'm going to leave you to it.
17:33You guys get back to work, too.
17:34Yes.
17:35Bye.
17:36Bye.
17:37Bye, Laura.
17:38I know the judges really don't want Curtis to go historical, and I do see a little bit of that here.
17:43But Curtis is being super ambitious, which is exactly what we need.
17:47I think it's going in a really great direction.
17:50But there's a lot of work between where we are and where we need Curtis to be.
17:59The last few weeks have been the most draining.
18:02I've been working 16, 17-hour days.
18:05I'm at my limit.
18:06I'm probably the most tired I've ever been.
18:09People have no idea how physically taxing it is to make garments from scratch.
18:15And I have to be at my peak in order to deliver.
18:17But I know I have so much responsibility to create the collection in a right way.
18:23I'm really fueled to continue.
18:29I don't doubt that Charles is going to deliver something really exciting for the finale.
18:34If it is the thing that can win him, Project Runway Canada, this remains to be seen.
18:41Hi, Laura.
18:42Hi.
18:43I'm so happy to be here.
18:45It's been so long.
18:46Is this your house?
18:48So we're actually at my parents' home.
18:50Really?
18:51And now my studio is downstairs.
18:53Can we go take a look?
18:54Yes, absolutely.
18:55I'm trying to show you.
18:56I'm nervous for her to see the collection.
18:58She's going to be the first person to see this.
19:01Oh, my gosh.
19:04Welcome to my studio.
19:07Wow.
19:08Are these your parents?
19:09These are my parents.
19:10And this is my inspiration.
19:12I'm Vietnamese.
19:13And it started with me meeting my grandmother for the first time.
19:16Not just, like, chatting.
19:17Like, I met her, spoke to her.
19:19How old were you?
19:20This year.
19:22Traveling to Vietnam, I really felt connected to my roots.
19:25It wasn't just about me meeting my grandmother.
19:28It was about my whole family and their journey coming from Vietnam as refugees to Canada.
19:34It was so life-changing, reflecting on my heritage.
19:37And so, telling the story in this way, it's a love letter.
19:41It's not a collection.
19:43And it's a big I love you to my family.
19:45It wasn't until I was in this competition that I was ready to tell this story.
19:51This is making me so happy.
19:53Yeah.
19:54Because that's a creative breakthrough.
19:56Yeah.
19:57And especially, like, once I saw my mom's wedding photos, I knew where to go.
20:01I was really inspired by her wedding dress.
20:03And, like, the shape of the trousers with the aliyai, which is the traditional long shirt over the pants.
20:09This is, like, my most authentic self.
20:11It's beautiful.
20:12Thank you so much.
20:13It is so hard to make an emotional collection.
20:16He's being vulnerable, he's being raw, and he's putting that on the line for judgment.
20:21Here it is.
20:22Wow.
20:23My collection really is about the intersection between utility, street wear, and couture.
20:30It's my best work.
20:32The amount of work that has gone into this is so apparent to me.
20:37There are elements of this collection that I was expecting to see.
20:40I'm not surprised.
20:41I'm seeing a lot of black, white, cream.
20:43Those are the Charles staples.
20:44But the references, how he's bringing his Vietnamese family into this work, he's really taken it to another level.
20:53When I look at this collection, I ask myself, like, where am I wearing these pieces?
20:58And what is wearable?
21:01These are big, powerful looks.
21:04This could be a winning collection, but you have to find a path into people's closets.
21:12Yes.
21:13Because this won't fit in my closet.
21:15Literally.
21:16My collection definitely does have some giant pieces.
21:19So now it's time for me to really reel this whole thing in.
21:23Obviously, I really want to win, but I also need to tell the story in the right way.
21:27I think you know what to do.
21:29But you still have a few hundred hours worth of work to go.
21:34Whew.
21:35You're 30% of the way there.
21:37I can still do it.
21:38I can do it.
21:39There's more in me right here.
21:40My biggest fear with Charles is that he's actually going to burn himself out.
21:43Charles is his biggest critic and his harshest judge.
21:48Hi.
21:49Hi.
21:50Hi.
21:51Aurora, this is my family.
21:53This is my mom.
21:54So nice to meet everyone.
21:55Hi, mom.
21:56My dad and my sister.
21:57Hi.
21:58Hi.
21:59You all haven't seen anything downstairs yet.
22:02Is that right?
22:03Nothing.
22:04Under wraps.
22:05Very excited to see it.
22:07He told me downstairs that this is his best work yet.
22:13It's art to him.
22:14It's not just a piece of clothing.
22:16Yeah.
22:17It's an expression.
22:19So we're very proud of him, for sure.
22:22Everything he touches turns into gold.
22:25My family means the world to me.
22:27It really motivates me to do my absolute best, and I want this badly.
22:31If he wins this, it's a game changer, right?
22:34I signed it for him.
22:36You know, I really want him happy.
22:39Charles, thank you for sharing this collection with me.
22:42I can't wait for you all to see it as well.
22:45I'm going to keep the secret in the meantime, and I know that you have a lot of work to do.
22:51So I'll see you back in the workroom, okay?
22:53I'll see you back in the workroom.
22:54Very soon.
22:55As beautiful as some of what I've seen is, for Charles to really take this, he needs to scale some of it down.
23:02It has to be wearable, and that is absolutely critical if he wants to win this competition.
23:08Bye.
23:09Bye.
23:10Bye.
23:11See you soon.
23:12I feel a lot of pressure right now.
23:13I've been through a lot in my life.
23:15I've had moments where I could almost taste what I've wanted, and for that to be ripped away from me.
23:20I'm very strong, and there's no way I'm giving up before the end.
23:23I was born for this moment, I want the glory.
23:38There's nothing that can stop me now, I know it's for me.
23:42I was born for this instant, I want the glory.
23:46Yes, I want the glory.
23:48Yes, I want the glory.
23:50Being here in the finale, this is starting to get real.
23:54$100,000 would change my life.
23:57I might not have as many wins as Charles and Leland, but I'm taking risks because that's who I am as a designer.
24:04So I deserve to win this competition.
24:06I want the glory.
24:07Yes, I want the glory.
24:09Winning Project Runway Canada would be such a validating experience.
24:14This has been a lifelong childhood dream.
24:17Everything in my career led me here to this exact moment.
24:22Yes, I want the glory.
24:23Baby, I earned my spot in this finale.
24:27I want to win so badly.
24:29It's everything I've ever dreamed of.
24:32Yes, I want the glory.
24:34I might be this costume designer and it might be easy to write me off, but I'm gonna eat this competition up.
24:40I've been waiting for this moment for so long and I can't believe this is finally happening.
24:46I can't wait to see what Charles and Leland have been working on.
24:52Okay.
24:53So this is what the finale looks like.
24:57All my stuff is here.
24:59This is getting really real.
25:01I feel really good about what I am bringing, but there's just too much to do.
25:06I can't even begin to make a checklist because I would need way too much paper.
25:11Her, Tina!
25:12Leland!
25:13Hi!
25:14How are you, baby?
25:15Hello!
25:16Oh, my God.
25:17I love the finale workroom.
25:19Baby, we're here.
25:20Whoa!
25:21This last two weeks, I'm not kidding, it was like 18 hours a day.
25:26I was just working it and working it and working it, coming up with these 10 incredible looks
25:31that are all cohesive and that all match and go together.
25:35It's really pushed me outside my comfort zone.
25:37I've added some leather items, a gorgeous leather gown, a cool rhinestone tank top.
25:43I just had this creative drive in me to be like, let's do this.
25:53Oh, my God.
25:56It's so big.
25:58Where's everyone?
26:03Yay!
26:05I missed you guys!
26:07After my hometown visit with Aurora, I really forced myself to create pieces and silhouettes
26:13that were more wearable, because it's easy to make really crazy big pieces.
26:17She really pushed me to simplify.
26:20Do I see pink?
26:21You see pink!
26:22Pink!
26:23Pink!
26:24I did pink!
26:25Oh, my God.
26:26She's taking a big swing.
26:27I just want to go outside my comfort zone.
26:28Charles did pink.
26:30I'm sure he thinks this is revolutionary.
26:33Delete that.
26:36Delete that now.
26:38There's so many fun things.
26:39I got obsessed with this giant orange.
26:41This is so fun.
26:42My designs are fun.
26:43They're camp.
26:44This is my collection.
26:45So it is so important that this screams Leland.
26:51Not shout.
26:52I want to scream Leland.
26:55But here's the collection.
26:56I have no doubt that Charles is going to give us white and black with some stripes.
27:00This is inspired by an orchid.
27:02And Curtis is going to give us codpiece and nipple piercings and goth.
27:08I made this corset and then I printed it onto a t-shirt.
27:11Printed it on.
27:12That is really fun.
27:13One of my big wow moments is this giant mermaid low-rise sequin moment.
27:20Aurora made me shift my perspective in terms of this collection.
27:24Beautiful.
27:25I love what you did for this.
27:27It's so good.
27:28I have some very wearable pieces that I've integrated my historical thumbprint onto,
27:33but I've subverted them and made them feel super modern and really cohesive together.
27:38Probably some of the most wearable stuff that I've done.
27:41I feel like my collection is the best one.
27:43I'm sure Leland thinks his is the best and I know for a fact Charles thinks he's already won.
27:48I have so much hand finishing to do.
27:50Hello, designers.
27:51Hey.
27:52So we're back.
27:53We're back.
27:54We're back.
27:55I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that I kind of missed y'all.
27:59Aww.
28:00We are two days away from the final runway.
28:04This is all happening.
28:07Yay!
28:08Yay!
28:09We are standing in the former home of a historic fashion institution.
28:14For decades, this space showcased masterful creations.
28:19From the likes of Oscar de la Renta, Versace, Dior, maybe yours truly.
28:26And in 48 hours, it'll be your collections that take center stage right here.
28:32You've spent weeks on your designs and now it is time to choose the models that will sell your voice and your visions.
28:42What are you looking for in a model?
28:44For me, the less gender the better.
28:45I want everything so I can just blur it all together and take gender out of the equation completely.
28:50I want people who have personality and I have so many Asian influences in mine.
28:55I really would love to obviously showcase that on some Asian models.
28:59I'm looking for people with a lot of personal strength and contemporary elegance.
29:04Each of you needs to choose ten models.
29:07Leave no crumbs.
29:08They're going to be selling your collections.
29:10Let's bring our first model in!
29:12Woo!
29:13Woo!
29:14Woo!
29:15Yes!
29:16Woo!
29:17Okay.
29:18This one we're going to have to fight over.
29:19She isn't my colors.
29:21They're mine.
29:22I'm looking for models who can own the runway.
29:26I'm going to fight for you.
29:27The collection itself is just so fun, campy, so I think I really need to like get the personality.
29:33You're so cute.
29:35Did you just point your toe at Booyoo Dancer?
29:37I was.
29:38Perfect for my collection.
29:39Girl.
29:40Ooh!
29:41So which one of you needs a male model?
29:46I know I need two.
29:47I need two.
29:48You do?
29:49Oh my god, I also need two.
29:50Technically, mine can go on anybody.
29:52With this collection, I really just want to drive home this point that gender does not exist.
29:59And I want to do that with models that can relate to that concept.
30:02It's literally me with bleached hair.
30:04Yeah, it's like a lot of hers.
30:06Ooh.
30:07They're mine.
30:08No question about it.
30:09A model can make or break or know that they need these models to really embody this elegance, this confidence.
30:19All right, he has a major attitude here.
30:22I love your walk.
30:23This is screaming Leland.
30:24Yes!
30:25Or is this screaming Charles?
30:26Uh-oh.
30:27Uh-oh.
30:28That is my model.
30:29You want it?
30:30I have to have her.
30:31We're all really good.
30:32Okay, so the first one I think I'm going to clock is Alice is mine.
30:36I'll take that.
30:37Thank you so much.
30:38If you take Alice, I'll take Caleb.
30:40I think she's actually better suited for my collection.
30:43It's going to be Maya.
30:44Oh, Maya!
30:45Oh, I want Sharon.
30:46You wanted Sharon?
30:47I want Sharon.
30:48I just want to know who's taking Yen.
30:49Yen is that girl.
30:51And you know what?
30:52Something about his calling.
30:53Yen, you wanted to walk for me?
30:54No?
30:55Let's put up all the male models that we've seen today.
31:00I need Tope and I need Brayden.
31:02I feel like I need Shane and Wes.
31:04I could do Shane and Michael.
31:05Yeah, you guys can figure that out.
31:06Okay, it's down to us.
31:08Take Wes.
31:09All right, so you're all set?
31:10Oh, yeah.
31:11First fitting starts now.
31:16All right, these are our finale models.
31:20Get fitting.
31:22Okay, kids.
31:23This one's going to be a fun one, okay?
31:26There we go.
31:27It's going to be so cool.
31:28Could be an off-the-shoulder moment.
31:29That's kind of fierce.
31:30Is it feeling it's going to get loose?
31:32Now it hits you in the right spot.
31:34I'm just going to put a pink scarf.
31:37In my head, I'm just thinking about all the things I have to get done.
31:41I'm feeling overwhelmed.
31:42Looks like that will at least fit in a suitcase.
31:45Yeah, there's a few that will.
31:46There's a few that will.
31:47All right.
31:48Does that feel okay under your ribs?
31:50Yeah.
31:51So right now, there's a giant Velcro panel in the back.
31:58Come on, little baby.
32:00You know, sometimes people don't take me seriously.
32:03No offense, but that is who I am.
32:05And that's what I'm running with.
32:06And that's who I'm going to be when this is done, too.
32:09Wow.
32:10We're ready.
32:11I also don't care about what the others think.
32:14Love.
32:15I love it.
32:16I'm really relieved it fits you better than I thought it would.
32:18How's it going over here?
32:20The vision is coming alive.
32:21Has the collection changed?
32:22Have we grown in the last little while?
32:24I made this really kind of futuristic hip peignet.
32:27I managed to find another pair of those same football padding, and I covered them in lace.
32:32Do you feel like we're modern here?
32:34I feel like I've pushed beyond modern and have gone almost more futuristic.
32:38Whoa.
32:39You're going to hate this.
32:40You're going to hate it.
32:41You're not doing it to this look.
32:43No.
32:44Why?
32:45You know who's going to be really excited to get these?
32:48Who?
32:49The bargain bin.
32:50Bargain bin?
32:53Bargain bin?
32:54This is not for your finale show.
32:57I mean it.
32:58I spent two full days individually coating all of these knee pads.
33:03What about the wrist ones?
33:04We don't need it.
33:06We don't need it.
33:07Less is more sometimes.
33:09Next.
33:10Talk me through this look.
33:11After you'd made me freak out, I tried to fix that corset and ended up making it terrible,
33:16so now I do have to make it again from scratch.
33:18So you're going to remake it in the next 48 hours?
33:20Yeah.
33:21Well, 48 hours to push it.
33:23All right?
33:24Okay.
33:25The t-shirt's cute.
33:26I got to put the work in this workroom.
33:28I have a full corset to create, tons of places that still need lace trim and embellishment,
33:33hats that I fully have to make.
33:35I have decorative elements that still have to go on, so it's going to be a hard couple days.
33:40The fact that I made this is crazy.
33:42The fact that I made any of this, I'm very tired.
33:45Hey, Charles.
33:46Hi, Ra.
33:47I'm truly in love with what's come out of me.
33:50Show me.
33:51This is the opening piece.
33:52Mm-hmm.
33:53Very you.
33:54What's next?
33:55I kind of wanted to build up upon this idea of, like, this sport wear tuxedo jacket.
34:00Is the bottom done done?
34:01It's done done.
34:02I'm on the fence about leaving a train.
34:05If you can hem it so it just kisses the ground, that will be great.
34:11Yeah.
34:12All right.
34:13Still some tweaks that need to happen.
34:17All right.
34:18Leland.
34:19Hey.
34:20How are you feeling?
34:21I feel incredible.
34:22I feel so good.
34:23I feel excited.
34:25I did take what you told me during our little hometown visit, that it can't all be plaid.
34:30So should we talk about the dragon?
34:32It's very subtle, right?
34:33You barely see it.
34:34You abandoned subtle a long time ago.
34:36I'm joking.
34:37This to me is cool, camp, fun, costumey, and it's still fashion.
34:41I know that this took a lot of work.
34:43I just want you to pull inside yourself and say, how else can I make it feel more like haute couture?
34:50I need this to be archival.
34:52This needs to be an incredible work of art.
34:54Then, baby, I got more work to do.
34:56You got more work to do.
34:57Okay, drop it like it's hot.
35:01Hmm.
35:02Okay.
35:03Shall we start getting a dress then?
35:09I'm probably about 85, 90% done.
35:12I have to re-stone the tanks and I have to fix the drop crotch on these pants just to make sure they fit perfectly.
35:26What the hell did I do?
35:29I'm trying to remake the corset that goes with my printed t-shirt.
35:35In the panic of getting ready to come back to this finale, I cut the pieces of this corset incorrectly
35:41and I now have to start over.
35:43It is extra stressful when it's two days before the runway and the winner of this challenge gets 100k.
35:52I'm like, at this point, what's possible?
35:54I know.
35:55Physically, what is possible?
35:58There's no fast way to do this.
36:01There's so much I need to get done.
36:03That list is getting long and I'm one person.
36:06I'm at my absolute limit.
36:08I'm exhausted.
36:09And honestly, I thought this would be the easiest part.
36:12The hand sewing, I can't rush.
36:13No.
36:14So I want to get that out of the way first.
36:16You can't rush hand sewing.
36:18How did I get here?
36:22It is so baffling to me because I thought I had this under control.
36:26And right now, I'm going to admit, I don't.
36:39Tomorrow is runway day and I have four outfits to still alter.
36:42So I'm just trying my best to get ahead before the next models show up.
36:47Okay.
36:48It's day two in the workroom and the heat's on for sure.
36:52I just realized I made another mistake that I made when I was at home.
36:56I have sewn this corset incorrectly three or four times.
37:01I have to recut.
37:03I got to make sure my finishing is absolutely perfect because the runway is tomorrow.
37:08It should have been so much easier than it has been.
37:12Oh, my God.
37:14For the gray hoodie look, I still have to add this bias tape, which I have to hand sew on the very top,
37:19and then fix all of the drawstrings.
37:23It's so much work, and I'm just afraid that I'm not going to get it done.
37:27I just need to look at it being like, just finish it.
37:30Good morning, designers.
37:33Good morning.
37:34Time to start thinking about hair and makeup.
37:37L'Oreal Paris has sent you kits to help you get inspired to sketch out some ideas,
37:42and I'll be back a little later.
37:45Ooh, sweet goodies.
37:48I think with the makeup, I just want heavier blush on the side to echo into the Chinese influence.
37:55And then smokey eye for everyone across the board to really sell this grungy punk thing.
38:00I'm designing an entire universe.
38:02I need to make sure these looks are head-to-toe perfect, so I'm thinking bold brows and a beautiful glossy lip.
38:09I really want to make a sculpted, contoured eye with a beautiful, smoky liner.
38:15Bold brows that really go up and out as well.
38:18Having the perfect face really is an extension of the story.
38:23Oh, my gosh. Okay, I need to stop.
38:25There's work to be done.
38:26Love you, L'Oreal.
38:27All right, guess what? Models, come on in.
38:31Yes!
38:33Yes!
38:34Yes!
38:35Yes!
38:37Hi, everybody. Welcome.
38:39Let's get you in these pieces.
38:41I know exactly what you'll be wearing. I know exactly what you'll be wearing.
38:44All right.
38:46Hey, how are ya?
38:47Good, how are you?
38:48So, this is this awesome split-split outfit.
38:52I really wanted to do a half leather, half varsity jacket.
38:55This is great. The jacket feels wearable, shoppable.
38:58Totally, totally.
38:59All right, what's next?
39:00I've got this dress on. Chelsea's eating it up alive.
39:03All right.
39:04I'm so happy with this one.
39:05Is this your finale?
39:06It's between this and dragon.
39:09Why don't we line everyone up and give me an idea of what you're thinking the order's going to be.
39:13I think the three most important garments are leather dress, gold dragon, bagpipe.
39:21They're really distinct moments.
39:24Okay.
39:25If it were me, I would switch these two.
39:27Seeing them together, I do think.
39:29Yes.
39:30Honey, I think you're closing the show.
39:32Sorry, Yen. I love you.
39:34It's looking fun. It's looking great.
39:36I think the leather dress is going to be the finale look.
39:39That is a couture high fashion garment right there.
39:42How's it going over here?
39:45So we've got this super great, like, striped wool coat.
39:48And we've got a Victorian BBL in the back.
39:51Feels historic and modern.
39:53All at the same time. It's perfect.
39:55Talk to me about these sailors.
39:58This top, which you called cheap the last time you saw it, now looks a little bit more expensive.
40:03At my hometown visit, Aurora pointed out some issues with the way I was using my lace.
40:08I went back in and redid a couple pieces to make sure that this stark bright white was nowhere to be found.
40:14Yeah. This is better. I want to see our tin girl.
40:18Saunter over. Don't collide.
40:21Making this skirt was really difficult, so I hope all that pays off.
40:28I cut it all up and made it into, like, shingle-sized pieces.
40:31I made this little, like, raw edge leather belt.
40:34I think it's, like, interesting, but I don't know about this belt.
40:38Okay.
40:39What happens if we take it off?
40:42I mean, I think it feels more elevated, because this just feels a little raw.
40:49You have to decide.
40:51Yeah.
40:52I'm gonna do some pinning stuff, but first I'm gonna get you out of your tin skirt.
40:56Tin skirt.
40:57Okay, wow, Charles.
40:59Hi, Aurora.
41:00There's whole new silhouettes that were not here when I came over to your house.
41:04Yes.
41:05So after our discussion about embracing pieces that are more wearable and relatable,
41:09I just wanted to take the best parts of the silhouettes, but make them modern,
41:13and then also add a little color.
41:16I was not expecting a full pink look.
41:19I don't love a lot of colors, but pink is one of the colors I really, really love.
41:23The pink blush look is so representative of the person I've become.
41:28There's a little hardness, but there's softness to this look.
41:31It's interesting because there's so much structure here, and this look is really fluid.
41:38This is probably the most fluid piece, apart from the sleeves of this one.
41:42Okay.
41:43Which I still have to put on the sleeves.
41:45But I can't just pin them in.
