00:00All right, the first round of these Giants head coaching interviews starting to heat up a little
00:03bit. First, they interviewed and had dinner with Kevin Stefanski. They've interviewed Mike Kafka,
00:09and now it's another Mike's turn, Mike McCarthy. Now, this is a guy that when you go and do your
00:14due diligence, he's just as attractive as a candidate to John Harbaugh. In fact, the resumes
00:19stack up. 11 of his 18 years as a head coach, he's had double-digit wins, and he's had success with
00:25two franchises over Harbaugh's one. Now, I know he's not the most exciting pick out there, but
00:31you have been trained as a Giants fan to hate the man because you've played against him twice a year
00:37for, what, five years? And then when he was in Green Bay, you had to beat him to make it to the Super
00:43Bowl. You take the bias away, though. Mike McCarthy is a coach that can come in and get things done
00:50right away. Let's get into the pros. Since Jackson Dart's development is a top priority
00:55in this coaching search, you got to highlight the success this man has had with quarterbacks
01:00like Aaron Rodgers and Dak Prescott, both future Hall of Famers. Dak, as you know, has completely
01:06owned the Giants and has some of his best seasons under Mike McCarthy. In fact, when he played for,
01:12what, at least 16 games, he threw for a minimum of 4,400 yards and 35-plus touchdowns.
01:19Tell me if Jackson Dart didn't do that, he wouldn't have the key to New York. Those numbers speak for
01:25themselves, but I really like what Mike McCarthy said to Pat McAfee and A.J. Hawk about how he would
01:32develop Jackson Dart and turn him into a complete NFL quarterback. That quarterback has to, you know,
01:39he has to win from the pocket to start off with. So, you know, this young man has an extremely bright
01:45future. I mean, I think every quarterback coach in the United States will love to coach this guy,
01:50just the way he plays, but, you know, he's got to be conscious of his availability.
01:55Another pro, Jackson Dart's longevity and availability and how Mike McCarthy could help him
02:02when it comes to that. Remember, this was a kid in his rookie season that was caught reckless
02:06because he wasn't sliding and my man was taking on way too many unnecessary hits. Fans wanted Brian
02:13Dable to rein him in, but Mike McCarthy on the same Pat McAfee show kept it absolutely 100 when he
02:22talked about how he would get the message across to Jackson Dart by holding him accountable.
02:28Coach, if you were sitting on the sideline and you had a quarterback like Jackson Dart who was
02:32too tough for his own good, I think, and he's taking big old shots all over the place, I guess.
02:36What do you tell him? Because you obviously love his competitive fire and everything about him,
02:40but how do you protect a guy like that?
02:43I think it's part of his responsibility. I think just like everything, we always talk about,
02:47you know, the two most important abilities are accountability and availability,
02:52and availability is number one. You've got to be available to your team, and it's decision-making.
02:58So if you can improve your decision-making, that's going to improve your availability,
03:01then it's part of his job description. The most important stat for young quarterbacks,
03:07you know, starting with this young man right here on the screen, is you have to be,
03:11you know, how many games is he going to, consecutive games can he play? Because you
03:14only improve playing every Sunday. You have to line up and play. So I think it's clearly,
03:21it's all part of his role, his job responsibility, and it's, you know, it's something that he has
03:27to be more aware of. I can see that conversation going something like, hey man, you're the future
03:32of this franchise. And the reason I even have this job, I need you to be smart and get out of bounds,
03:38or get that ass down. He is a coach that if he's holding you accountable, you don't get mad for that.
03:43He's making you better. And the last pro, the man's a winner. We all know about how he and the Packers
03:49absolutely ran the NFC North when he was in Green Bay, but he's also dominated the NFC East as well.
03:56Two division titles in the five years as Cowboys head coach. 12 plus wins, three of those five
04:02seasons. And those other two seasons where they didn't get 12, well, that's because Dak was hurt.
04:07Final thought, this is a guy that's going to make this franchise relevant again. Obviously, your goal
04:12is to win a Super Bowl every year, but because of how things have just been so bad here in terms of
04:18Giants land for the last decade or so, being relevant and competitive consistently is a win
04:25in this coaching cycle. Winning consistency is going to allow you to check off different
04:30milestones on the way or on the journey to a Super Bowl. Giants have a lot of milestones that
04:36need to be checked off before anyone can consider these guys a Super Bowl contender or even put them
04:43in the conversation. But Mike McCarthy will at least get them into that conversation. There's talent on
04:49the roster. The D-line should be a lot more dominant next season. And of course, he has a young QB on a
04:55rookie deal. To me, that is enough for a coach like Mike McCarthy to come into East Rutherford and turn
05:03this franchise around. He is my second choice for the job right now, right under John Harbaugh.
