Another disturbing trend I've noted looking at patient reviews of doctors in the Birmingham, Alabama area is the growing difficulty for some customers to actually arrange an exam with a proper MD. More and more practices are telling people they can only see their nurses and the staff doctors are always "booked up" and "BUSY".

As was the case with the UAB Leeds location I did a video on a few years ago, I was quoted an 8 month wait in a recorded telephone conversation (SEE VIDEO) to see a primary care doctor. UAB is not at a lack of resources and is a quite wealthy medical institution, so why make customers ready to pay them for services line up and wait for so long for basic exams? I found some images of the parking lot of this location online on a random day and noted it most of the parking spaces were empty! I think there is a possibility that in some instances there may exist ulterior motives behind their waiting lists.

I read a review in this video on Complete Health, formerly known as Northside Medical Associates. A patient of their Pell City, AL. location (formerly their corporate headquarters & home to founder Dr. Ronald Helms) This person describes being blocked attempting to schedule a doctor's appointment weeks in advance, only to be diverted to a nurse practitioner. The patient claims "I haven’t seen a real Dr. in over 2 years". They say they waited 25 minutes on the phone: "I verified with 2 different people the date and time of my appointment only to get there and be told that my appointment is a week away".

-As of 2025 this office has adopted a rather unethical & unprofessional practice of using representatives to speak to the public who discuss health information (AND ARE RESPONSIBLE) but go by pseudonyms (nicknames) & outright refuse to give identity when requested.
-Visited Trussville Complete Health 2019-2020.
-MRI in this building w/ St. Vincent's Ambulatory, $500 - 10 year honors graduate / neuroradiology specialist Dr. Michael Brant Ruff (Vulcan Imaging) failed to note broken skull bone or 6 inches diameter infection in the images!
-Attempted to see Dr. Scott Boyken. Always booked up / asked if I would see a Nurse instead.
-Many problems with nurses I saw here acknowledging a very serious injury I had - broken skull (occipital condyle / condylar canal / possibly foramen magnum also broken), head trauma, infection and parasites.
-I saw nurses Frankie James Crumb & Celeste Richardson. Referred to MRI in same building.
-Crumb was attentive, I thought he was going to help me. Stuck instrument in my ear / could see visible infection & swelling from the 6 inch mass in my head (matches MRI anomaly) & neck & noted it. He saw the MRI pictures & everything changed, probably realized I had a $1,000,000 USD head injury. After I told him about the antibiotics effects next visit he sounded in a panic, repeating "we're done, we're done". The exam ended.

00:00You can see roughly 60-60 hours of documentation on what happened to me, including all the MRI, all the CT, all the x-rays, the uploaded written doctor's reports, I have recorded telephone calls, YouTube channel, My Medical Nightmare.
00:21Alright, some new reviews out on Complete Health, which hosts primary care doctors and nurses in many locations around Birmingham, Alabama.
00:33I'll go into my own negligence-ridden experience with this practice, formerly known as Northside Medical Associates, CEO Dr. Ronald Helms.
00:44But one problem I had in my visits is I would routinely try to arrange an appointment with an actual doctor.
00:53They always came back and told me the doctor's schedule was booked up, that I could only see a nurse.
01:00I had visits at the Trustville, Alabama location in 2019 and 2020.
01:06Digging through some of the reviews on Complete Health, I noticed this issue as a repeating theme.
01:13I'll mention this review written in 2024.
01:17This is for the Pell City location, which was formerly the headquarters of Northside Medical Associates.
01:24Location 74, Plaza Drive, Pell City, Alabama 35125.
01:29The review reads,
01:30This place has honestly become a joke.
01:32They only care about growing the number of patients that they have, not providing their existing patients with adequate care.
01:40I can schedule an appointment weeks in advance and only get to see a nurse practitioner.
01:46I have not seen a real doctor in over two years.
01:50Their phone service is the absolute worst.
01:54You can never get a real person on the phone.
01:56I waited over 25 minutes on the phone and finally had to just leave my number and wait for a call back.
02:04I verified with two different people the date and time of my appointment only to get there and be told that my appointment is a week away.
02:14When I told the staff member there that it must have been a mistake, she rolled her eyes and got an attitude and tried to argue with me.
02:23We'll be looking for a new doctor, one that actually sees their patients.
02:27I had some visits at the Complete Health Trussell location at 7201 Happy Hall Road, Trussell, Alabama 35173.
02:36This is just off Deerfoot Parkway.
02:38Most recently, in 2025, I regrettably had to deal with this location again for a family member.
02:46And there I made a startling discovery.
02:49The office has adopted a rather unethical and unprofessional practice of using representatives to speak to the public who discuss health information and are responsible but go by synonyms, nicknames, and outright refuse to give identity when requested.
03:05I visited 2019-2020 when it was called Northside Medical Associates.
03:10A referred to MRI in the same building, billed by St. Vincent's Ambulatory Healthcare Network, LLC, of $500.
03:20The radiologist misdiagnosed an injury that appeared in those images.
03:26Tenure, honors graduate, neuroradiology specialist, Dr. Michael Brandt Ruff, MD for Vulcan Imaging Associates,
03:33did not note the broken skull bone or six inches diameter infection that appears in the pictures.
03:40You can see the actual MRI images I am referring to in this video.
03:45I had many problems with the nurses I saw here, acknowledging the very serious injury I had.
03:51Broken skull in the area of the occipital, condyle, condylar canal, possibly forming magnum.
03:56Head trauma infection, six inches diameter visible in the MRI.
04:01I almost did not make it trying to deal with this injury.
04:05Doctors and nurses who were trying to mislead me in this very vulnerable time period,
04:11especially when I was paying the money for medical services, this was not appreciated.
04:16Curiously, when the nurses seemed uninterested in examining me,
04:21I was not referred to the MDs in the location like Dr. Scott Boykin.
04:27So what happened here?
04:28Did they patient dump me?
04:30I saw nurses Frankie James Crum and Celeste Richardson.
04:32The MRI tech for St. Vincent's misrecorded which side of my head and neck of my pain was actually on in her notes.
04:43Crum was attentive.
04:45I thought he was going to help me.
04:47He stuck an instrument in my ear and could see visible infection and swelling from the six-inch mass in my head.
04:55And that same infection appears in the MRI.
04:59In his notes, that's written down and recorded.
05:02When Crum saw the MRI pictures and everything changed, probably realized I had a $1 million head injury.
05:08After I told him about the antibiotics effects, in the next visit, he sounded in a panic, repeating,
05:15we're done, we're done, and the exam ended.
05:17This was an extremely disheartening experience.
05:20I was not done because I still needed treatment for a possible critical injury that almost cost me my life.
05:27Yeah, Crum kept talking about physical therapy, and he wrote some critical observation about my concerns of seeing a physical therapist.
05:40And yeah, it's really simple, okay?
05:41If you have a broken neck, broken skull, a broken form, and magnum, you can go into physical therapy, all right?
05:50Just think about this for a second, all right?
05:53I was told by the Northside Medical Complete Health staff that the results of the St. Vincent's MRI were normal, negative, and contained no injury.
06:04And this is not true, and I brought this up to Nurse Crum and Celeste Richardson.
06:10Unfortunately, they did not take my concerns that seriously.
06:15Money's paid for services.
06:18I obtained imagery from the scan and my records and found I had serious head trauma in the basilar area of my skull.
06:26I made Northside Medical Associates aware of this and even called CEO Dr. Ronald Helms of Pell City.
06:33My phone call was never returned.
06:36I believe there was substantial talent in this practice to help me, but they did not.
06:40Nurse Crum told me he was going to call St. Vincent's and try to get the MRI error straightened out.
06:46I had a $700 bill all in, and my injury was not noted.
06:51This resolution never happened.
06:53Phone tag went on for weeks.
06:57Eventually told I was being, quote, referred, unquote, to Cooper Green, to a neurologist, because I had no insurance or source of income.
07:05Actually, I was being patient-dumped by St. Vincent's and Complete Health, who did not want to acknowledge the truth of my injury.
07:13My next visit with Celeste Richardson in 2020 was a new low.
07:18Conversing with her, very difficult.
07:20I seemed oblivious that I had any injury or prior injury history, talking about this area of my neck and head.
07:28She was not open to my input.
07:31I took in printouts of the MRI CT frames showing the broken skull mass infection.
07:37She simply asked me, where did you get those images?
07:40She did not want to see them, and I feel, didn't believe I had a physical injury.
07:45I requested anti-parasite medication and argued over this with Celeste Richardson.
07:52She wanted to take a blood test, which I refused.
07:55She walked out on me before the exam was finished because of this, and I was accused of trying to dictate my treatment for my efforts.
08:05I finally agreed to the blood test.
08:08I requested a detailed analysis of the blood for parasites, fungus, and other issues.
08:16She denied me this, and she made an offhanded comment that that was going to be expensive.
08:23I got the blood test back.
08:24Celeste Richardson dismissed some of the anomalies there.
08:29I was simply stressed, and this was absolutely not true.
08:33You can see the MRI images.
08:36I had massive infection in my head and neck.
08:39Slowly and incrementally, my health was declining.
08:43I paid money and went to these medical practitioners.
08:46My time was wasted, and they were playing these games.
08:49I complained to the Northside Medical Associates office manager.
08:52She said the MRI people next door would contact me but never did.
08:58I was denied a request for medical records from Northside Medical Associates Complete Health on the same day.
09:05Usually, any medical practice will simply print out the patient's medical records right in front of them.
09:13It usually takes a couple of minutes.
09:15That didn't happen in this case.
09:17They said they were going to need several days to prepare my records before they would give them to me.
09:23When I finally received my medical records from these visits, they appeared edited with boilerplate disclaimers inserted as well as curiously empty fields, etc.
09:37I believe this practice backed the misdiagnosis of their business partner, Ascension, UAB St. Vincent's, Vulcan Imaging, and Dr. Michael Brayton Ruff in a sloppy attempt at patient dumping.
09:47Ascension, UAB St. Vincent's, Vulcan Imaging, and Dr. Michael Brayton Ruff.
