00:00That's good right there, Tim.
00:07Stop.
00:09Today, we are at Scotty and Cynthia Cooper's house,
00:13getting ready to start on the addition in their backyard.
00:17We did the initial remodel in their home when they bought it.
00:20I'm just like shaking.
00:21I'm like, oh my gosh.
00:23The colors are perfect.
00:25It's a really small house, and they just need more space.
00:29Travis, what's up, man?
00:31Hey.
00:32What's going on, guys?
00:33Well, we're getting ready to dig some footings.
00:34How you doing?
00:35Doing good.
00:36Good.
00:36What do we got going on here?
00:37So my inspector got a hold of me Friday
00:42and said that the plans for the expansion
00:45were going to be too close to the pole and violate our new specs.
00:48Our specs now require any new structure
00:51has to be 20 feet off of the pole.
00:53So you'd have to go from the face of the pole 20 feet in
00:58in order to meet the specs.
00:5920 feet?
01:0020 feet.
01:03This was not how we wanted to start this project.
01:05We thought we were good to go.
01:06I thought we were going to dig this morning.
01:08Everything approved.
01:09We now have a new issue.
01:10The power pole that you're seeing behind me
01:13is eight feet off of our fence.
01:16So we were going to run the structure right along the fence
01:19line just like the existing structure of the house is.
01:22But we can't because there is a city of Bentonville code,
01:25not a national code, a city of Bentonville code,
01:27that you have to be 20 feet away from a pole
01:30with any new structures.
01:32We now have to move that entire structure 12 feet
01:35into the middle of this yard.
01:37We're going to, we're just going to have to go back
01:39to the drawing board and completely refigure this thing.
01:46Hello?
01:47Hey, babe, I need you to come down to the Coopers,
01:50if you could.
01:51We've got a little bit of an issue here.
01:53Well, actually, a big issue.
01:54OK.
01:58All right, Jenny.
01:59One, two, three, two, one, go.
02:06Yeah!
02:07Perfect.
02:10For me and Dave, every day is a lot of moving parts.
02:14With five growing kids, no, do not go in the house.
02:19All right, quick break on.
02:20Whoa.
02:21Oh, wow.
02:23A working farm full of our beloved animals.
02:26Sometimes cows don't do what you want them to.
02:28It's the strangest thing.
02:29I think I have to go in and scoop some poop, too.
02:32Woo!
02:33A renovation business.
02:34Oh, what?
02:37And running two stores in our community
02:39of Northwest Arkansas.
02:41I think we did it.
02:42We definitely did it.
02:44We stay pretty busy.
02:45Ah!
02:47And sometimes a little stressed.
02:48God!
02:49Oh, my Lord, David!
02:51But when your job is helping your neighbors
02:53transform their lives.
02:55Oh, my God!
02:57By transforming the place they call home, they crushed it.
03:01Oh, my God!
03:02It's so pretty!
03:03Oh!
03:04It's not really work at all.
03:06Just another day in this crazy, beautiful life we call ours.
03:09Oh, my God!
03:10How did you do that?
03:11How did you do that?
03:22There's my lovely garage.
03:24Hey!
03:25How are you doing?
03:26How are you?
03:27Good to see you.
03:28Good to see you.
03:29Hi!
03:30You look so cute.
03:31Hurry down.
03:32I had to stop and get coffee for everybody.
03:33It's a coffee day.
03:34You need coffee, it's raining.
03:36And maybe you need to add bourbon to it,
03:37because it's just so stressful.
03:39Well, one minute.
03:40Yeah.
03:41When we renovated this home, we were downsizing.
03:45We were empty nesters, so we had gone from a much larger home
03:48into this, and we just downsized too much.
03:51But with this addition, this would just make it possible
03:53for us to live out the rest of our lives here
03:55and have room for our guests, our family to come and stay.
04:01The intention is to have day-to-day more of that living space,
04:06additional living space.
04:07We have three dogs, two cats.
04:09Yeah.
04:10The dogs now have an entire house that is their dog room.
04:13Yes, I understand.
04:14So it ends up being a lot and chaotic.
04:17So we need some more space.
04:18We just need some more space.
04:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:21The priorities are having a full kitchen.
04:23I definitely want to have a fireplace.
04:25OK.
04:25Bedroom, obviously.
04:27Cool bath and closet.
04:28OK.
04:29Secondarily, Beau, even though Beau has her own house,
04:32when it comes to a holiday, she wants to be home.
04:35Days before, days after, she wants to be with us.
04:40Yeah.
04:41So not only did we renovate Scotty and Cynthia's home,
04:43they also renovated their daughter's home.
04:46We did.
04:46We renovated their daughter's home.
04:47Oh, my gosh.
04:48Oh, my gosh.
04:49Oh, my gosh.
04:50It's so cute, Toe.
04:52Cool.
04:53Oh, my gosh.
04:54The whole family we've done stuff for.
04:55We love working with the Coopers.
04:56They're amazing.
04:57And they do kind of what we love.
05:00They save old houses in downtown Bentonville.
05:02They don't just bulldoze them to the ground
05:04and build something new.
05:05But building within Bentonville can
05:07be a little tricky because of some of the codes.
05:09National Electric Code says we have to be seven feet off
05:14of the power lines before we build any structure.
05:16OK.
05:17Which, that power pole is eight feet off of your fence.
05:21OK.
05:22City of Bentonville says you have to be 20.
05:25What?
05:26Oh.
05:2620 feet.
05:28So we need to figure out new dimensions for the addition.
05:32OK.
05:32Matt and Tim and I, we laid out a couple different options.
05:37Let's go from here to the pool just
05:38to see what we have for room.
05:41Is that good?
05:43Keep going.
05:45Where are you going?
05:4624 feet.
05:47Right there.
05:51Dude, that's, I can't even put a stake.
05:54Dude, this is a killer.
05:57So option number one is we shift the 12 feet, which literally
06:01the fountains that shoot into the pool
06:03would be on your covered porch of this structure.
06:06Option number two is we take this structure.
06:10We shift it 90 degrees, trying to keep the layout the same.
06:14Got it.
06:14So it's longer instead of wider.
06:16Exactly.
06:17As long as we have the components,
06:19the layout is not as important.
06:21OK, so we're going to go ahead and commit
06:23to rotating the structure.
06:24Yes.
06:25All right.
06:26Perfect.
06:26Do you want this to be different or tie in?
06:28We definitely want it to tie into the rest of the house.
06:31I mean, we love the house as it is, the white on white on white.
06:35Yeah.
06:35We have love.
06:36Yeah.
06:37It's crisp.
06:37It's great.
06:38I'm assuming wood floors throughout.
06:40Something that is going to be durable because it is,
06:42at the end of the day, a pool house.
06:43Exactly.
06:44You want people coming in and out of the pool.
06:45So durable hardwood.
06:47I noticed when we were getting rained on,
06:49there's still a couple pallets of that used brick.
06:51Can we use that brick?
06:52Absolutely.
06:53Please.
06:53We have held onto it for that very perfect.
06:55Very recent.
06:56Yeah.
06:57OK.
06:58Our budget for this addition is right at $300,000, and we know they can take that and do with
07:04it exactly what we want, adding their touches, adding their creativity like nobody else around
07:09here can.
07:10So besides the structure, what else do you envision out here?
07:12We need patio and hard space back here.
07:14Yeah.
07:15Yeah.
07:16We're lacking back here.
07:17So we'd love to have a fireplace as well as potentially parking.
07:21OK.
07:22So we'll build the main structure, create a parking area, then add a patio and an outdoor fireplace,
07:29and maybe add trees to help with privacy and create basically a full entertaining space
07:35back here.
07:36Yes.
07:37What else do we need?
07:38Let's go talk about it out of the rain.
07:40We had also talked about a safe room, and I had in mind something above ground.
07:46OK.
07:47When the tornadoes hit back Memorial Day last year, Cynthia and I were just wandering around
07:52in there, and there's really no room that does not face an exterior wall there.
07:56It would be nice to have someplace to go and corral all the animals and crawl into when bad
08:02weather hits, which it tends to do a lot these days.
08:04They have complete units now that they actually come as a unit.
08:08And then we'll just find a way to conceal it.
08:10All right.
08:11Let's go talk about the design.
08:12OK.
08:13I mean, I know what Cynthia likes.
08:15I've worked with her enough.
08:16They love New Orleans.
08:18So everything we did on their house was inspired by New Orleans architecture and the aesthetic
08:23there.
08:24I love the design that Jenny was able to bring to the original structure.
08:29Can I, like, hug my island?
08:32Can I hug it?
08:33So I really want to keep the addition the same as the house so that it really has this
08:41seamless flow from one space to the next.
08:44Like, it needs to feel like you're not stepping into a totally different space.
08:48Right.
08:49So I love that.
08:50Well, we're not starting today because we've got to figure this out.
08:53Yeah.
08:54But I feel like as long as the city, they seem willing to work with us, it'll probably
08:59take a couple days to resubmit with the new layout, and then we'll get rolling as soon
09:04as we can.
09:05It should take about four months to complete.
09:07We're going to get everything redrawn.
09:09I'm going to verify it with Travis and the city of Bentonville.
09:12When we're digging, we know everything is good.
09:14All the permits are in place, and we'll move forward from that point.
09:17Bye.
09:18Bye, guys.
09:19See you, man.
09:21Thanks.
09:22Like we hoped, the city approved the plan so we were able to get the foundation forward,
09:29and once the concrete is cured, we'll be ready to start framing.
09:36All right, Matt, come back about three feet.
09:42That'll work.
09:44Stop.
09:45So I found a miniature cow for Jenny.
09:48You know, we've got a lot going on, and we already have so many animals.
09:52I just figured, what's one more?
09:55You've got to be kidding me.
09:57It never works that easy.
10:00Dusty bought this cow as one of his breeder stock, like something to raise up, and all
10:07the other ones grew.
10:08This cow never did.
10:09It just never grew.
10:10It just stayed that way, and the rest of them, they just took off like weeds.
10:14Well, I can tell you right now, this little cow just hit the lottery.
10:20Minnie's going to have a long, lazy life.
10:23All right.
10:24We'll keep her at Matt's until I can find the time to surprise Jenny.
10:37Jenny said she'd be down here in a minute, because we've got to figure out where that storm shelter is going to go.
10:43Let's just start these bathroom walls.
10:45Hello.
10:46Hey, Jenny.
10:47Hey, babe.
10:48Look at this.
10:50What are you doing?
10:51Just supervising?
10:52Uh-huh.
10:53Oh, it's nice, isn't it?
10:54I know.
10:55It's kind of fun.
10:56He's a supervisor.
10:57We've got some questions for you.
10:58All right.
10:59Bathroom wall here, pocket door going into there.
11:00Yes.
11:01We've got a few options.
11:02What is this?
11:03This is the safe room.
11:04Oh, wow.
11:05It's roomy.
11:06We're kind of worried, though, the way that the door opens.
11:10Do we put it along this wall and make it enter from the bedroom and make, like, a hidden door?
11:16I definitely think it needs to be hidden, but it needs to be quickly accessible from both the main house and this addition.
11:22What if we did put it this way and then you just had, like, a wall across here with, like, a door that opens up or a fake door or something that opens up here?
11:33And then we can have the storm shelter on one side and laundry on the other.
11:37And we can install pocket doors to conceal them both, just to keep it simple and accessible.
11:41It's going to be nice.
11:56Okay.
12:01All right.
12:02Cynthia Cooper just texted me her and her daughter Bowman are coming into the store to meet me.
12:08She wants to talk about the project.
12:10She has some changes in the design, she said.
12:12So I'll meet her up front.
12:14Hi.
12:15Hi.
12:16Hi.
12:17Yes, yes, yes.
12:18How are you?
12:19I'm great.
12:20Good.
12:21Good to see you guys.
12:22Good to see you.
12:23Okay.
12:24Okay, so what's happening?
12:25Well, we know we wanted to do, like, white and white and white, and we said match the house.
12:30Yes.
12:31Yes.
12:32But we really want to kind of do something as a surprise for Scotty.
12:36Ooh, okay.
12:37Okay.
12:38Because, I mean, you know, we love him.
12:39Yes.
12:40But we're going to kind of kick him out into that space to hang out in, you know?
12:44That's going to be his hangout.
12:45That's going to be his man thing.
12:46Exactly.
12:47In addition to everything else.
12:48Yes.
12:49In addition to, yes.
12:50Hosting and all the things.
12:51Yes.
12:52All the things.
12:53So we would rather have kind of a more masculine feel.
12:54Oh, I love that.
12:55And he loves bourbon.
12:56He collects bourbon.
12:57Okay.
12:58We were kind of thinking about, you know, that crazy countertop y'all did for me.
13:03Give it a push.
13:05Oh, my God.
13:06This is awesome.
13:07Come on in.
13:08He's more of a bourbon guy than a wine guy.
13:10Okay.
13:11But something along those lines to really capture.
13:13Fun and unexpected like that.
13:14Yeah.
13:15I remember.
13:16Oh, that was the best.
13:17It was so fun.
13:18It was so much fun.
13:19Yeah.
13:20Your house is so cute.
13:21I love it.
13:22Every time I drive by, it makes me smile.
13:23Me too.
13:24Okay.
13:25So any preference on colors or anything that you can think of?
13:26Probably the dark green.
13:28So outside, keep the same.
13:29We'll do the gas lanterns and do the French doors and everything.
13:32So it really mirrors the house.
13:33But inside.
13:34Yes.
13:35It's going to be Scotty's man cave.
13:37Yeah.
13:38Not really man.
13:39Not like tacky man cave.
13:40Cozy.
13:41Right.
13:42Bourbon lounge.
13:43Yes.
13:44Man lounge.
13:45Man lounge.
13:46There we go.
13:47All right.
13:48So you'll be in charge of keeping them away from the inside for the next couple of months.
13:50Yes.
13:51I love it.
13:52I'm on it.
13:53We're about a month into the build and we're at the point where we need to order all the
13:58design materials going into the house, like tile, light fixtures, paint, things like that.
14:03And now that this space is a surprise for Scotty, I have some ideas on how to give it a manly,
14:08vintage New Orleans feel.
14:09So we're trying to get a lot into a very small space.
14:12It's less than 500 square feet.
14:14We want a living room, a kitchen, a bedroom, and a bathroom.
14:16And a laundry room.
14:17And a laundry room.
14:18And a storm shelter.
14:19And a storm shelter.
14:20All right, if you want to start drilling, I can start going this way.
14:22And also, Chris is here to take measurements for the cabinets and countertops.
14:29This is going to be Scotty's kind of hangout, entertaining man cave space.
14:35So they want a full kitchen, but it's pretty small.
14:37Yeah.
14:38This whole space is going to be funky, very New Orleans-inspired.
14:41All right, so the lower cabinets will be painted.
14:43Then we'll have panel-ready fridge and dishwasher, so they'll be hidden.
14:47And then we'll have one upper cabinet that will be walnut with glass front.
14:51And we'll have dark countertops and the stone that will go up behind the range.
14:55It's going to be gorgeous and moody.
14:57And I know both Scotty and Cynthia will love it.
14:59Awesome.
15:00What do you want to do on the fireplace?
15:01You know that stone fireplace that we brought back from Italy?
15:05I would love to use that here, but I don't know if it'll fit.
15:08And Cynthia would love that if it would work.
15:14It's not even five feet.
15:15We could use it outside and use the leftover brick for the base.
15:18That's a good idea.
15:20I'm having art painted of their animals, because you know how much they love their animals,
15:24and doing like a vintage-style art.
15:26And I was thinking of filling this whole thing with the art.
15:29That could be cool.
15:30But more importantly, Cynthia does not want a bed in the bedroom.
15:35Like, she doesn't want this to just be like a bed in the middle of the room.
15:40She wants it to be a built-in little nook where the bed goes.
15:44So we're building a wall.
15:45Yeah, so I think we have a built-in bed on one side, and then a wall with some bookshelves,
15:50and maybe a liquor cabinet on the other.
15:52Scotty collects bourbon, so that's perfect.
15:55So what's above the nook?
15:57I think we build it all the way up, right?
15:59Give her storage up there?
16:00Yeah.
16:01Sweet.
16:02Okay, so for the bathroom, we're going to do a walnut vanity to match the kitchen.
16:06We'll use the same countertop material, and then a black and white floor with dark horizontal tiles for the shower.
16:13I think Scotty will be really surprised.
16:15All right, so, you know, in the front of the house, we did the New Orleans style.
16:19We have the shutters.
16:20You need to build some more shutters.
16:21And then I'm going to order a gas lantern.
16:23You want to have a little driveway here so they can enter directly back here.
16:27Okay.
16:28And then we've got to do, I'm going to call Jacob and have him come out,
16:31because I want to do a lot of landscaping out here.
16:33And since they have a house right behind them, I would like to have a big brick fireplace here.
16:38That'd be really pretty to kind of give them privacy and just to kind of establish this area as the hangout area.
16:44That'd be great.
16:45Big fireplace here.
16:46You put the big, tall trees.
16:48Yeah, that's true.
16:49You got the driveway.
16:50You still need to leave a space for the dogs.
16:52Then you almost create a living room here.
16:55Love it.
16:56Perfect.
16:57So I think we have a good plan to bring old world vintage character both on the inside and outside.
17:03So Scotty will be surprised, but Cynthia will be really happy too.
17:08I got the miniature cow for Jenny, but I figured, you know what, let's make it fun.
17:20Like you can't just go give it to her.
17:22Come on, baby.
17:23Let's go for a walk.
17:24Matt has been keeping the cow at his place until we could pull this off.
17:27And he dropped her off in my neighbor's fenced in pasture this morning.
17:31And so I'm going to bring it out and we're going to act like it is a little calf that got out.
17:37Jenny!
17:38Babe, there's a cow out front.
17:39What?
17:40There's a cow right out front here.
17:41I need your help.
17:42Luke!
17:43Whose cow is it?
17:44I don't know.
17:45Oh, I see it!
17:48It's a baby!
17:50He's so cute.
17:51Hi, baby!
17:52What are we going to do with him?
17:53I don't know.
17:54Should we put him in our pasture?
17:56I called George and he said that he didn't know whose it was.
17:59Are you serious?
18:00Yeah.
18:01So we just have a loose cow.
18:03Our cows get out and the neighbor's cows get out for sure.
18:07Cows get out a lot.
18:08Oh, my gosh!
18:09He's just, he found his home!
18:11He's mine now!
18:13I love him!
18:14Hi!
18:15Oh, my gosh!
18:16He just, like, belongs in our pasture.
18:17I mean, if we find his family, fine.
18:19Hey, Jenny.
18:20I have a feeling he, like, found us.
18:21Jeff, he's a year old and he is yours.
18:23No!
18:24Minnie!
18:25It's her little name.
18:26Stop it!
18:31It's actually a female.
18:32A farmer up in Missouri bought her with four other ones.
18:35They're all this big and she never grew.
18:37That's how tall she is?
18:38That's it.
18:39She's almost a year old and she's 36 inches tall.
18:41Stop it right now.
18:42Stop it right now.
18:43Those little feet, she's full grown.
18:45Stop.
18:46Come here, baby.
18:47She just walks right in like she owns the place.
18:49I want a penny.
18:50I know.
18:51Don't run.
18:52Don't scare her.
18:53Such a good gift.
18:54Fun surprise.
18:55I mean, always accept another animal on the farm.
18:58We have plenty of room.
18:59Huh, Sadie?
19:01Look, they're meeting.
19:02Oh, they're going to be friends.
19:12Okay, guys.
19:13Look at...
19:14Oh, she said guys.
19:15Austin, you're in on this now.
19:17Oh, boy.
19:18Austin, you'll appreciate this.
19:19Yes, ma'am.
19:20I had...
19:21When we did Cynthia and Scotty's house the first time, I had an artist paint their dog,
19:26Nola.
19:27And this is beautiful.
19:28Who is a killer.
19:29She's a cutie.
19:30She's so mean.
19:31Yeah, but she's so mean and they kept saying she's mean.
19:32I'm like, dogs love me.
19:33She's not mean.
19:34Oh, my gosh.
19:35It is my dog who likes dogs people.
19:37He likes dogs.
19:38No.
19:40So I had my friend, Marion, paint the Cooper's animals.
19:47Look at this.
19:48Are those hand painted?
19:49Hand painted.
19:50That's pretty cool.
19:51This is Walker.
19:52Absinthe.
19:56Stop it right now.
19:57Look at that face.
19:59That's Paisley.
20:00Look at those eyes.
20:02This is Nola.
20:03This is Maddie.
20:04How many animals do they have?
20:07A lot.
20:08You just blew that right on me.
20:11Sorry.
20:12This is incredible.
20:13She did such a good job.
20:14And now I need to have her paint all of our animals.
20:17The Coopers love their animals.
20:19We love animals.
20:20So I just wanted to celebrate that.
20:21And these paintings definitely have a different feel.
20:24They're a little more moody and the shadows and the colors are a little bit more dark and there's a lot more depth to them.
20:31They feel kind of vintage, which also really plays well with the aesthetic of this new space that we're building for Scotty.
20:38We're going to do this gallery wall.
20:41Scotty, of course, will love this, but Cynthia thinks this entire space is for Scotty.
20:47So this is also like a little surprise for her.
20:49Okay, so seriously, can we talk about how beautiful these are and the colors?
20:54This is exactly what I wanted.
21:00Since Cynthia kind of pivoted on the new space and now it really is more of a space for Scotty.
21:07I want to do something that incorporates something old where we can store bourbon, a bourbon locker for Scotty.
21:16So coming to the Copper Crown.
21:18Let's see what they have.
21:19Hopefully I can find something.
21:20I'd love it if it was sort of New Orleans inspired.
21:24Ooh, I love these chairs.
21:25Ooh.
21:26I get very distracted very easily.
21:28Oh, I love the sofa.
21:30Oh my gosh.
21:31I love copper pots.
21:32Ooh.
21:33Oh my gosh, this would be perfect.
21:36Oh, it's missing some glass.
21:38Dave would just have to fix the glass and it's missing a little knob.
21:41I'm going to get this for sure and I'm going to keep looking for other stuff, but this is perfect.
21:45Okay, great.
21:46Oh my gosh, how cute is he?
21:48Okay, that's hilarious.
21:49What is this?
21:51Just a metal dog.
21:52Actually, I feel like Cynthia would love that.
21:54Where would I put that?
21:55But it's $45.
21:56Oh, look at this old corkscrew.
21:58That's only $9.
21:59Okay, I've got to stop.
22:00Oh my gosh.
22:01Oh my gosh.
22:02No, no.
22:03No, no, don't stop.
22:04No, no, no.
22:05We're here all day, girl.
22:10So this will be the shower tile.
22:12Isn't that pretty?
22:13Yeah.
22:14Okay.
22:15At the Coopers, this build started off a little bumpy, but we are cruising now.
22:19We have a little over a month left to get this done.
22:22We have the siding going up.
22:23We have the hardwood floors going in.
22:25We have tile for the shower and the bathroom floor.
22:29We chose a bold tile for the bathroom floors that are often found in historic New Orleans
22:34businesses and homes.
22:36And Tim is getting the bedroom nook free.
22:41And Cynthia has been helping us keep this a surprise from Scotty.
22:44She's in charge of making sure he doesn't see anything.
22:47How's it going?
22:50Hey.
22:51I thought you were going to have these all ready for me.
22:54They are?
22:55Ready to get on the lathe.
22:56I've seen your lathe work.
22:57It's solid.
22:58We need some accent legs for the bathroom vanity.
23:01They'll just slide in at the base to add more character.
23:04Sort of a New Orleans vibe.
23:06So Matt and I decided to go back to our roots when we were in high school,
23:09making small decorative pieces in shop class.
23:12It's probably going to be about the best thing you've ever seen.
23:22I mean.
23:23And we could each do a half and then let Jenny decide which one she wants for the winner.
23:27And we could just split them in half with a saw.
23:30Maybe.
23:31Let's do that.
23:32I mean, I'm probably going to win.
23:33So we're going to put one on each side and just see which one Jenny likes the best.
23:39Hey, you're not messing with mine, are you?
23:41Huh?
23:42I think she's really going to like yours.
23:46So what if we get them on there and she's like, I don't like either one of them.
23:51Let's bring it over to the Coopers and then we'll just say, hey babe, go check out the vanity and see what you think.
24:08And then have one on either side.
24:11Okay.
24:20That's good.
24:21You're good.
24:24Hey.
24:26What's this?
24:27Isn't this fun?
24:28I got this for the Coopers.
24:29Oh, cool.
24:30What is it?
24:31I got this for the Bourbon cabinet.
24:32We have to replace one of the knobs and we have to replace some glass, but it's all taken apart.
24:37So we just have to put it back together.
24:38See, they're in individual pieces.
24:40So I figured we'd build it in at the Coopers and then we could use, you know, put bourbon in there for Scotty.
24:46I love that idea.
24:47Make it a fun little display cabinet.
24:49Let's do it.
24:50Let's stack.
24:52That's really.
24:57So do you think you can match this glass?
24:58I mean, this doesn't look like it's super wavy.
25:00So it needs something that is old, but not wavy.
25:05Let's see here.
25:10Will you take that?
25:11All right.
25:12Let me grab a flat bar and we'll do it real quick.
25:16I'll send you pictures when I'm done.
25:18All right.
25:19Thanks.
25:20Bye.
25:2130 by 10.
25:25It's broken down here.
25:26So we'll start down here.
25:31Sometimes it doesn't work.
25:41I got a piece of glass.
25:50Dirty piece of glass.
25:51All right.
26:00Like a glove.
26:08Okay.
26:09Don't worry, Matt.
26:11I got it.
26:12Yeah.
26:13you, dude.
26:15You want help?
26:16Yeah.
26:17Oh, crap.
26:19We're here at Cooper.
26:20We're adding in some more trim.
26:22We have the new bedroom.
26:23I also ordered a rolling ladder so that they can access the storage above.
26:28The tile is in in the bathroom.
26:30Very pretty.
26:31So things are moving along.
26:33I also brought the paintings that Marion did of Cynthia and Scotty's animals.
26:37I just want to look at these over the fireplace and make sure we have enough.
26:44Put him down.
26:47Okay.
26:5055.
26:51How far up are you wanting to go?
26:54I want it to go all the way up.
26:55That's pretty much all the way up.
26:56But I guess if we had the mantle here, this would fill.
26:58So I just need to find frames.
26:59This is going to be a challenge.
27:01Now for the mantle.
27:02We need a unique design.
27:03Think New Orleans, but also it needs to feel very French in here.
27:07Stone.
27:08I know it would be stone, but we're doing stone outside.
27:10We don't have another one for in here.
27:12Okay.
27:13I got to stop because we need these, but it's so addicting.
27:14I can't.
27:15I can't.
27:16So it's the mantle.
27:17Matt and I.
27:18Oh crap.
27:19I'm tired.
27:20Matt and I.
27:25Matt and I over the years, like we're both keepers of things, random pieces of trim.
27:31So I think between him and I, between our shops, we probably have enough old school crown molding to make this work.
27:37We're trying to make this look old and unique and used and.
27:42Used.
27:43Not.
27:44I wouldn't use the word used.
27:45You have to, you have to use the right terms.
27:47Antique.
27:48Vintage.
27:49We're giving you an antique treasure.
27:50Repurposed.
27:51Restored.
27:52Revitalized.
27:53Used.
27:54Oh crap.
28:02What are you guys doing?
28:03Oh hey.
28:04Ooh.
28:05Here's our mantle.
28:06We bought this in Italy at this antique store.
28:09From the 1600s.
28:10I feel like Cynthia would really love, love this.
28:13We were in Italy last winter.
28:16We went to a friend's antique shop and found this mantle.
28:20It's over 400 years old.
28:22And when we started the Coopers project, I knew Cynthia would love this and she would appreciate it.
28:27And so we are going to put it in their new backyard.
28:29Cynthia and Scotty will love it.
28:32I feel like maybe these are.
28:34Like two different legs maybe.
28:36Yeah.
28:37I mean.
28:38Maybe grab the wrong ones.
28:39I don't think they are.
28:40I think they are.
28:41No, because it has the flowers.
28:42I think that's just chipped off.
28:43And this was this raised edge right here.
28:45Yeah.
28:46And it's just gone.
28:47But look at this.
28:48This is the same as this.
28:49This guy.
28:50I don't think we want to take the paint or anything off though.
28:52No, I like it like this.
28:53And I actually do think it would look good outside.
28:54I think I can just set it on moving blankets.
28:56So I'll bring the truck back here and we'll just wrap it in blankets and then we can take
29:00it down.
29:01I'll get rid of that later.
29:02Please be careful.
29:03Jenny, we are always careful.
29:06This is a good selection, Matt.
29:11I think I brought you about every piece you could ever need.
29:16The cabinets are coming in.
29:17This place is taking shape.
29:19Dave, Matt, and Tim are working on just building out this fireplace around with the trim.
29:23And of course, we'll use the stone fireplace for the outside.
29:26Cynthia and Scotty love vintage pieces.
29:29They want it to feel very collected and, you know, like something that you would find in
29:35New Orleans.
29:36Got gas lanterns for the exterior.
29:40So we're kind of matching what we did at the front exterior, back here and the back exterior.
29:45Which side do you want?
29:47I'll take this side.
29:50You just set yours up on either edge and then I'll set mine up and we'll see which one she likes.
29:56We're going to have the foot challenge.
29:58The ones Matt and I made on either end.
30:00Just to kind of make this a little bit more decorative.
30:02What are you guys doing?
30:04We got a little, we got a dilemma here.
30:06We need you to pick.
30:08We put some feet on this.
30:10Okay, which one do you like better?
30:12Did you make them?
30:13Yeah, we made them.
30:14These.
30:15I see.
30:17Those are mine.
30:19So Dave did win.
30:20He won, but he needs to make two more.
30:22So he kind of lost anyway.
30:24Brought us back to high school.
30:26Shop, class.
30:27Oh.
30:28And also how pretty is this floor?
30:30Yeah, the floor is nice.
30:31And this vanity.
30:32So you like the legs?
30:33You want to leave them or no?
30:34Yeah, I like them.
30:35Kind of reminds me of a V for victory.
30:41They look good.
30:42Now it's time to pick out Pete.
30:44Cynthia said she really wanted to surprise Scotty with this space.
30:47She wanted it to be his space.
30:48So we need a masculine bold color in here as opposed to the white on white in the main house.
30:55Hey, hey, come here.
30:57Four, four of you.
30:59I just want off the top of your mind, Chris, you two.
31:02If you're going to a cigar lounge, just sit.
31:06If you're going to go sit with your friends, have a bourbon.
31:09Green.
31:10Green?
31:11Dark green or dark blue?
31:12Brown?
31:13Like what about a deep brown?
31:14No.
31:15I'd say green.
31:16Green.
31:17Brown.
31:18Brown.
31:19You kiss.
31:20Kiss up.
31:21I'm just wearing a brown shirt.
31:22Brown nose.
31:25I think we'll go with the brownish green.
31:30This does not even feel like the same back then.
31:32I know.
31:33Isn't it amazing?
31:34I mean, it could not be more perfect.
31:44How's it going?
31:45Dave March.
31:46I mean, you come be the judge.
31:48It looks good.
31:50It's looking nice.
31:51It's pretty.
31:52We worked in the Cooper's house about seven or eight years ago.
31:55One of the things that Cynthia specifically asked for were French doors flanked by beautiful,
32:01long shutters, louvered shutters.
32:04And so Dave had never actually built louvered shutters at the time.
32:08Do you remember when you accidentally nailed the shutter to the table?
32:12Remember when you accidentally nailed it?
32:14Yes, I remember.
32:15What do you think?
32:16They're going to look good, aren't they?
32:17Yeah.
32:18Let's stand it up.
32:21Dave.
32:22Dang it.
32:24I can't do this.
32:26I did not switch the long nails with the short and I just nailed the shutter to the table.
32:31Dave was so mad he had to make louvered shutters and how much work it is.
32:35It's just a lot of tedious work and he was so mad about it.
32:38And then he did all this work and then he accidentally nailed them to the table.
32:41But he learned from his mistakes.
32:45I've checked this nail gun seven times to make sure the nails are correct in it.
32:50It looks great.
32:51We're going to paint it the same color.
32:52You need four.
32:54I'm an hour into half of one.
32:59Well, you're not quite halfway, just to be clever.
33:02Thanks.
33:03At the Coopers, both exterior and interior paint are done.
33:12We have the exterior fireplace going in and we're trying to get everything set inside.
33:16We have about two weeks left to get all these last minute detail items that we have to get done so we can give this house back to the Coopers.
33:25All right, I got the drill.
33:34Are you going to carry the big one?
33:35Turned out so good.
33:36Look at this.
33:37They're so cute.
33:38I'm so glad we found frames.
33:40Holy cow, there's a lot of trees here.
33:42Oh my goodness.
33:43I think they've added 10 more since I was here yesterday.
33:46Look at this.
33:47Dang.
33:48Holy moly.
33:49Jacob, you'll never stop.
33:50It's amazing.
33:51Hi, guys.
33:52Hello.
33:53It looks so good.
33:54Oh, look at the brick.
33:56It looks awesome.
33:57How's it going?
33:58Good.
33:59Oh my gosh.
34:00Look at that fountain over there.
34:01Oh, I love it.
34:02Oh my gosh.
34:03It looks so good.
34:04It looks perfect.
34:05These bricks were from the Joplin Hospital that got tore down by the tornado.
34:09You're kidding me.
34:10Oh my gosh.
34:11Wow.
34:12It's reclaimed brick from there.
34:13Very cool.
34:14You know, Scotty's a doctor.
34:15Really?
34:16There he is.
34:17That's crazy.
34:18The last cat is too far.
34:19The what?
34:20This cat is too far.
34:21Here, hop down so I can see it.
34:22Wait.
34:23Shoot.
34:24I think...
34:25I said, babe, is that not too high?
34:26Why don't we...
34:27No, no, no, no, no.
34:28It's perfect.
34:29No, but I didn't know.
34:30I asked you how far it's going to go down.
34:31What if you just bring this guy down?
34:32How does it look from back there if I bring...
34:33I think it looks amazing right now, but whatever.
34:36What if he's like here and that guy goes down?
34:37And that one comes down?
34:38Oh my gosh.
34:39Look.
34:40Wait, look, Kim.
34:41We'll take him...
34:42Yep.
34:43To like right here.
34:44Yes.
34:45Put a pencil mark in...
34:46Where?
34:47What?
34:48I don't have a pencil.
34:49Not a pencil, it's your nail.
34:50I don't have a nail.
34:51You have a nail.
34:52I see them on your hands.
34:53Just make a little nail mark at the top of that painting.
34:57Okay I got it, I got it, I got it.
34:58I got it, I got it.
34:59Oh yeah, no.
35:01Crap, I got it.
35:02That one comes down.
35:03Wait, look.
35:04That one comes down.
35:05That one comes down.
35:06Oh my gosh.
35:07Look.
35:08Look, Kim, we'll take him...
35:10Yep.
35:11To like right here.
35:12Yes.
35:13Put a pencil mark in...
35:14Where?
35:15What?
35:16I don't have a pencil.
35:17Not a pencil with your nail.
35:18Right in the center.
35:19I don't have a nail.
35:20You have a nail?
35:21do you guys have like a solid wood wall that I can smash my head into hey you
35:26know this is a dark wall so every time I make a hole in I know you know Dave
35:32sometimes you just don't know until you know you know I'm not mad I love this
35:37there's nothing I'd rather do than any pictures for you on a day like this I
35:41love doing so the space is intended for Scotty as a man cave but of course it's
35:50also for their whole family I think we managed to create a space that looks
35:57like it is an extension of the home it doesn't look like it's an addition it
36:01looks like it should have always been this way it's just come out beautifully
36:06and I know they're gonna love it who we have I love all these plants I want to
36:17live in this backyard
36:22uh-oh is that Nola I don't know
36:26what I really wanted was this to be a space for Scotty but it was not easy to
36:46keep him from finding out okay so we did the lovely you guys have been living
36:53with this all this time so awesome so it's really a surprise all right well I
36:58say we go in through the laundry let's go this way okay and then we'll go I don't
37:01want to see outside yet and follow you okay sounds good all right Maddie go check it out here we go
37:08here we go oh I love the color oh okay this is the first stop just a little stop you got a new
37:15hallway okay and then if you want to open this building go ahead okay oh my gosh yeah I know what
37:23this is so I know the storm shelter is important to you guys yeah yeah so
37:28especially with these tornadoes this will withstand over 250 mile an hour winds it's
37:33got like little storage for all your documents look at that and it's got a rug and throw pillows
37:38that's right Jenny had to make it pretty of course and then over there you've got a washer and dryer oh
37:44that's great yes everything you have for in here yeah perfect so this is just nice and contained but
37:50it's also tucked away so it's not right in your face oh yeah no I love it it's perfect all right so
37:55are you ready ready yeah oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh so actually Scotty you may be a
38:12little surprised by the color choices in here because it's very different than your main house yes I was
38:17going to ask about yeah so I actually had a conversation with these two ladies you guys can tell
38:21them this is your space yeah we wanted you to have an area of the house yeah oh really I get an
38:28area today I can take that one of two ways Cynthia's minimalist black and white motif that's that's what I
38:36was expecting and then I you know I was taking it back I wasn't smart enough to pick up on what's going
38:41on this was yeah not expected at all so over here we have of course you have this amazing ladder so
38:49you can access your storage above oh yes and then this is an old piece that I found that we made into
38:56just a little bourbon cabinet that we've kind of built this whole built-in around I can't get over
39:02there and Cynthia we have a little something for you as well
39:05oh my friend Marion painted these you know obviously we had Nola in the other house so all
39:21of the animals needed a moment in this space and of course you got your fireplace amazing
39:26okay and then you have a full kitchen amazing yeah amazing I wanted the rest of the appliances
39:37like the fridge and the dishwasher to be panel ready so that they're just hidden behind cabinetry
39:41I feel like this is the perfect not only entertaining area when you have the doors open
39:45and people are outside coming in but it's also when they kick you out of the house this is a great
39:49place for you to come hang out we did not put a door here we kept this open so that people have
40:07you know when your guests are here you can go right into the restroom right and it just kind
40:12feels tucked away and really cozy okay so master we check this out oh it's so nice oh I love the
40:22mirror isn't the mirror fun oh my gosh it's so cool it all feels very much like you're in you know the
40:29French Quarter yes and one of the little cottages perfect okay that's what we wanted that is what
40:33that's exactly what she wanted yes and that's exactly what it feels like the floor reminds me of a
40:38certain restaurant in New Orleans that we like yes okay well perfect that's what we're going for
40:45so that makes me happy elements of the original home are reflected in this as well and and I just
40:51love that everything just ties together so seamlessly the portraits of the of all of our beastie babies was
40:59just the cherry on top all right we still have one more really big space that's connecting with this
41:06space which is out back all right come on Maddie what's all this oh wow
41:15this does not even feel like the same background I know isn't it amazing I mean it just feels like a
41:30a courtyard like a new Orleans courtyard yes that's what we wanted isn't it simple this is salvaged brick
41:37from the Joplin Hospital after the tornado hit they salvaged that brick and so we were able to get that
41:43here so it's from the hospital which feels like a little nod to Dr. Cooper then we have the salvaged
41:49brick that actually matches the front of your house and your walkway on the fireplace so you have a
41:55wood-burning fireplace and go check it out this is amazing okay okay so that is from the 1600s from
42:03Italy we brought that back from Tuscany no way it was in three pieces we pieced it back together and
42:11installed it here for you because I knew you would love it I absolutely love it I'm so glad it's gorgeous
42:19extra after extra yeah we also have a wall of trees with a little arched gate to enter from your new
42:28parking spot back in the back so you have more parking for guests as well which I know is really
42:32important yeah yeah that will become a living fence as as everything grows in but okay so the dogs are
42:38contained I mean it could not be more perfect no it just looks so natural yeah I mean the vibe
42:45the outdoor space far exceeded my expectations I could not have envisioned how lush and private it
42:56feels it is perfect right to another wonderful project for the Cooper family thank you for having
43:02us thank you very much
