00:00Big cook, little cook, welcome to our cafe. Big cook, little cook, want you to come and play.
00:15Meeting all the friends we cook for, sharing stories, trips and fun. Big cook, little cook, we'll cook for everyone.
00:29Oh, hello everyone. Welcome to our cafe, the best cafe in the world. I've just been working out in our vegetable patch.
00:41Hello everyone. How's it looking out there, Ben?
00:45Oh, I tell you what, little cook, the carrots have gone mad. The more we pick, the more they grow.
00:51Look at this lot. Wow, we'll never eat all those, Ben.
00:55I know, little cook. And we can't put carrots in all our recipes, can we?
00:59What can we do with them?
01:02Oh, I know, I know, Ben. Why don't we take them down the pet shop? Their rabbits will love those.
01:07Good idea, little cook. But I think even their rabbits would have trouble eating all the carrots in our garden.
01:12What we need is a bigger animal, Ben, like a donkey. Hey Ben, can we buy a pet donkey? They love carrots.
01:19I think our garden's a bit small for a donkey, little cook. It would be nice to have a pet though. What could we have?
01:26Hmm. Oh, I know what I'd choose. My favourite animal. It's big, it's grey and it's got big flappy ears.
01:36And a long trunk. Can you guess what it is? It makes a terrific noise like this.
01:43Yes, that's right. It's an elephant.
01:49An elephant, little cook. I think an elephant would trample all over the carrots and everything else.
01:56Where would he sleep? Anywhere he likes.
02:00We'll have to think about pets later, little cook. Sounds like we've got a customer.
02:05I'm on my way! Woo-hoo!
02:17Who's our customer today, Small?
02:22Well, our customer's a pet, Ben.
02:24Oh, is it a furry pet?
02:26Oh no, it's not at all furry.
02:29Hmm. Oh, well, does it live in a cage?
02:31No, it lives in a tank.
02:33Aha, I know. It's a fish.
02:36You're right, Ben. It's a goldfish and his name's Gupta and he's in one of my stories.
02:42I think it's time to look in my book.
02:55We need a story to help us cook.
02:57Let's take a look in little cook's book.
03:00Little cook's adventures in the big world. Let me see.
03:07One day I went to visit my friend Holly.
03:10She was very worried about her two pet goldfish, Gupta and Grace.
03:16They're usually really lively, she told me.
03:20But one day last week they started looking a bit sad and now they just swim slowly round and round and they don't seem at all well.
03:31The fish were in a large tank of clean water.
03:34They look very well cared for, I said.
03:38Oh yes, said Holly.
03:41We made sure we got a big tank for them with plenty of room for them to swim.
03:47And we put in some gravel and some big stones and this little arch so they had somewhere to play.
03:54I feed them special fish food every two days. Not too much though.
04:01I clean their tank out every week.
04:05And I've put some water plants in because the plants help the fish to breathe in the water.
04:10I was puzzled. Holly was looking after her fish really well.
04:16So what could be the matter?
04:18Have you moved their tank? I asked.
04:22No, said Holly.
04:24Well, has anything in the room been moved?
04:28Holly thought for a moment.
04:31Yes, she said.
04:34There used to be a radio on the shelf there.
04:37But Mum took it upstairs.
04:40Then I had an idea and I asked Holly to fetch the radio.
04:45We put it back on the shelf, turned it on and music filled the room.
04:51Straight away, Gupta and Grace perked up and started to dash around the tank.
04:57Whoopee!
04:59They played chase with each other.
05:01They copied each other.
05:02They moved backwards and forwards together.
05:04It's almost as if they're dancing.
05:07I laughed.
05:09That's why they were so sad, said Holly.
05:13They were missing the music.
05:16And so, with the radio back in its proper place, Gupta and Grace were as happy as can be.
05:23Little Goop to the rescue once again!
05:26That was a great adventure.
05:29Oh, I'm glad Gupta and Grace perked up.
05:32They looked very sad before Holly brought that radio back.
05:36Wahey!
05:37Well, there's nothing like a nice bit of music to cheer you up, Ben.
05:40Unless it's a nice bit of nosh.
05:43And speaking of nosh, we need to think of what to cook for your friend Gupta.
05:46You're right, Ben.
05:47Now, what would a goldfish like to gobble?
05:49Hmm.
05:58I know!
05:59Big Cook's Big Cookery Book!
06:02Of course!
06:03The Big Cookery Book!
06:04There's recipes for everything in there.
06:06And where do we look for things to cook?
06:08In the book!
06:09In the book!
06:10In the book!
06:11In Big Cook's Book!
06:13Now then, what do we have here?
06:16Look, Ben.
06:17This is perfect!
06:18Fish tank quiche.
06:19See, there are water plants and two goldfish, just like Gupta and Grace.
06:23Hey, hey!
06:24Great!
06:25Well, you read out the ingredients, Little Cook, and I'll see if we've got them.
06:28Okay, let's see.
06:29We're going to need eggs.
06:30Eggs.
06:31Over in the fridge.
06:32Here we go.
06:33Open up.
06:34Eggs.
06:35Yes.
06:36There we go.
06:37Got the eggs small.
06:38Oh, single cream.
06:39Nice and creamy.
06:40There we are.
06:41Got the cream.
06:42Cheddar cheese.
06:43Cheddar cheese.
06:44Oh, I love cheese.
06:45Here we go.
06:46A nice triangle of cheese.
06:47Got it!
06:48A packet of short crust pastry.
06:50Oh, pastry, pastry.
06:51Yes, we've got some of that.
06:53Definitely.
06:54Pastry.
06:55A red pepper.
06:56Red pepper.
06:57Red pepper.
06:58Here we are.
06:59Got the red pepper.
07:00Yes.
07:01Lovely and juicy.
07:02Black olives.
07:03Black olives in here.
07:04Got the olives, Little Cook.
07:06And some broccoli.
07:07Broccoli.
07:08Broccoli.
07:09Broccoli.
07:10Oh, right.
07:11We haven't got any broccoli, Little Cook.
07:13Could we use carrots instead?
07:14No, we can't use carrots instead, Ben.
07:17The broccoli is meant to be the water plant in the fish tank.
07:20See, look.
07:21Carrots would look very strange in a fish tank.
07:23I know.
07:24I'd better whizz off and get some broccoli.
07:27Good idea, Little Cook.
07:28And while you're away, I'll get everything ready.
07:30Great.
07:31See you later.
07:32Hey, why don't you come along too?
07:34Whoosh!
07:35Whoosh!
07:36Whoosh!
07:37Whoosh!
07:38Whoosh!
07:39Ghost mole, Whoosh!
07:40Whoosh!
07:41Whoosh!
07:42I wonder what he'll see today.
07:43see today. Wahey! I'm at a farm. Today, these farmers are picking some broccoli.
08:10Broccoli grows out of the ground. It's a vegetable and is very good for you. That's the part
08:16you eat. They're called broccoli florets. They look like little trees. Hee hee! That broccoli
08:28isn't big enough to pick yet. Oh, but that one is. The farmers have picked lots of broccoli
08:39and now they take it to sell at the farm shop. I wonder what this lady is going to buy.
08:49Ooh, some carrots. And some of the broccoli.
08:56Remember to eat your vegetables. Bye!
09:21Mmm. These carrots are delicious. Mmm. Really sweet. I wish we could find a way to put
09:34them into our fish tank recipe. I'm back! Did you find some broccoli, Small? I certainly
09:40did, Ben. And here it is. Woohoo! Oh, wow! The broccoli was growing out of the ground in a
09:49field. It looked like little trees. Ha ha ha! But now we've got all the ingredients,
09:54what are we waiting for? We're all ready, so take a look. And we will show you how to cook.
10:00The jelly boats and pirates go princess pea pies, carrot cakes and fruit smile and envelope surprise.
10:12We love our cafe and we love to cook. We have a fantastic recipe book. He is big cook and he is small.
10:25Friends in our cafe, we cook for them all. When your tummy gets all rumbly, you're ready for a treat. You can make something delicious to eat.
10:38Have you cleaned the surfaces? Yes. Have you washed your hands? Yes. All clean and ready to cook. Do you remember the ingredients to fish tank quiche? You do. There were eggs, three, single cream, 275 millilitres, cheddar cheese, 100 grams, finely grated, short crust pastry, one packet, black olives,
11:07one, a red pepper, half and some broccoli. A few florets. Whoopee! Let's get started!
11:15Now the first thing we need to do is preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius, gas mark six. And make sure you get your grown up helper to do that bit for you because remember, the oven is hot, hot, hot.
11:27What shall I do, Ben? Could you beat an egg for me in your little bowl, small? It'll be my pleasure.
11:33Oh, thank you very much. Now, I've already rolled out this pastry here and I've cut off a few strips around the edges. So I'm going to carefully pop the pastry onto a greased baking tin.
11:47There! A beaten egg! Great! And now, with a pastry brush, I'm going to smooth the egg around the edges of the pastry. Like this. And this is going to help the pastry strips to stick on. So, put them over. There we are.
12:15This one. And the longer ones. There. And the last one. Now, they need to go all the way around the edges to make a little wall to keep the filling inside. And always remember to wash your hands if you handle raw egg. Now, what's next, little cook?
12:37You have to put a sheet of greaseproof paper over the pastry and then weigh it down with some baking beans. Like dried kidney beans. That stops the pastry from rising when it's cooked.
12:47OK. I've done that. So now, we can put them in the oven. So, oven gloves on. And over we go. There we are. Open up. And pop them inside. And remember, that's a job for your grown-up helper to do because the oven is hot, hot, hot.
13:11I'll set the timer for 15 minutes. Now, it's time to make the broccoli water tank. And the pepper goldfish. I'll do the goldfish.
13:21Right. Now, I've just put some water on to boil and that's another grown-up helper job. So, now it's time for the broccoli. You'll need the florets. They're little sprigs and I've just cut them in half.
13:33Cut two fish shapes out of the red pepper so they look like these.
13:37And now, the broccoli florets need to steam for a couple of minutes. Pop them in. And on goes the lid.
13:51The pastry and the broccoli are cooked and cooled. What's next, little cook?
13:55Whisk up the other two eggs with the cream and cheddar cheese.
13:59Okay, in go the eggs. The cheese. And the cream.
14:09Oh, this smells lovely. And here we go. Oh, I'm whisking. Round and round. Whisk it all up.
14:21Right, that's nice and whisked up now. So, we can pour the eggy mixture into the pastry.
14:31In it goes. Very nice. That should do.
14:38Now you can put the broccoli plants and the fish in the tank, Ben.
14:42Okay, small. Here we go. Broccoli plants going in. One there. I think I'll put a little one over here. Just there. And one there.
14:57Oh, that looks good. And I think we can pop the fish in here. And here. Great. So, now we can pop it into the oven for 40 minutes.
15:11So, oven gloves on. And over we go. Open up. Pop them in. There. And remember, that's a job for your grown-up helper to do because the oven is hot, hot, hot.
15:32I'll set the timer. For 40 minutes. Ben, I've been thinking about what pet we should get.
15:40We can't get a big pet like a donkey. Or an elephant. Well, how about a small animal like an ant? An ant? Oh, no. An ant's far too small, little cook. And I might step on it. I've always wanted a dog.
15:55Well, I'd love a dog too, but they're always wanting walks. Woo-hoo! And we're always so busy in the cafe.
16:01Oh, that's true. Oh, we're never going to find the right pet for us at this rate.
16:07The quiche is cooked and cooled now, so it's just time for the finishing touch. I'm going to put two slices of black olive onto the fish to make their fishy eyes. There we go.
16:24That looks brilliant. It certainly does. I hope Gupta the goldfish enjoys his meal. One fish tank quiche coming through.
16:33There. All done. So what do we do now? Can we play? Not yet. Time to clean and put away. Hooray!
16:45Wash, wipe, scrub and clean. Make the kitchen sparkle and gleam. My name's Ben and my name's Small. We've got the cleanest kitchen of all.
17:06Tidy all the bits and pop. The things that help us do our jobs. Ingredients we'll put away. We're ready for use another day.
17:15Pots and pans will start to smell. If we don't wash them really well. And now it's clear. Let's all smile. We'll be finished in a little while.
17:22All around. Up and down. We've got the cleanest cafe in town.
17:36A-ha. Here comes the plate.
17:40Oh, yes. It looks like Gupta the goldfish enjoyed his fish tank quiche, Small. Look. He's left a note.
17:47Well, what does it say? What does it say?
17:49Let's see, shall we? It says, Dear Big Cook Ben and Little Cook Small, the fish tank quiche was delicious!
17:56Woo-hoo!
17:57I'm leaving you a little thank you present, which might sort out your pet problems from Gupta the goldfish.
18:03Oh, I wonder what it is.
18:07Look, Small. It's our very own fish tank with two little wind-up fish in it.
18:12Great! Gupta's got us the perfect pets. They're not too big.
18:16And they're not too small.
18:18They don't need walking.
18:19And they don't even need feeding.
18:22What shall we call them?
18:23I'm going to call mine broccoli.
18:25And I'm going to call mine carrot.
18:28Ho-ho!
18:29Well, broccoli and carrot, welcome to the cafe, the best cafe in the world!
