00:00Big cook, little cook, welcome to our cafe. Big cook, little cook, want you to come and play.
00:17Meeting all the friends we cook for, sharing stories, trips and fun. Big cook, little cook, we'll cook for everyone.
00:30Oh, hello, welcome to our cafe, the best cafe in the world. Can you hear that rattling noise?
00:44Hey, there it is again. I wonder what it could be. It's not me. Maybe it is. Oh dear, I think
00:57I've got a rattly head. No you haven't, little cook. It's me. Listen. It's this rattle.
01:10For a moment there, Ben, I thought I had a rattly head. Is it yours, big cook, Ben?
01:16No, it's not. I found it in the cafe, little cook. I haven't had a rattle since I was a little baby.
01:21I do like the sound it makes, though. Do you? I bet you were a funny baby, big cook.
01:29I've got some photos of me as a baby around here. They must be here somewhere.
01:34I wonder what Ben looked like as a baby. Here we are. My baby photographs. I was so tiny.
01:46A tiny baby.
01:47Here's one of me with my dad holding me up. I couldn't walk properly then. I could only crawl.
01:55Babies often crawl before they can walk.
01:59Oh!
02:02The problem with crawling is that you can't see where you're going and you get very sore knees.
02:08Any more photos, big cook?
02:09Oh, right. Oh, yep. Another picture of me as a baby.
02:13Hey. That's not you, Ben. That's me. You've got all the photos muddled up.
02:19Oh, ho, ho. You're right, little cook. We'll have to put them in order.
02:25But that'll have to wait, little cook. It sounds like we've got a customer. Better go and see who it is.
02:30I'm on my way. Woo-hoo!
02:31Who's our customer today, Small?
02:44See if you can guess. She can fly, but when she was younger, she could only crawl.
02:50I think we need more clues.
02:54She has beautiful wings and long antennae.
02:57And now she's grown her wings, does she flutter around the flowers?
03:03Yes, Ben. Have you guessed?
03:05Is she a butterfly?
03:07Yes. It's Belinda the Butterfly.
03:09Now, what would a hungry butterfly like to eat?
03:12I think it's time to look in my book.
03:23We need a story to help us cook.
03:26Let's take a look in little cook's book.
03:30Little cook's adventures in the big world.
03:32Let me see.
03:37One day I was in the garden when I saw lots of caterpillars munching away at the cabbage leaves.
03:43They love them.
03:45But one caterpillar was different.
03:48She took a huge bite, and then she said,
03:51It tastes horrible.
03:54But she had to eat something.
03:56She was getting hungry.
03:59If you don't eat, you'll never grow up to a butterfly.
04:03You're a cook, she said.
04:05Can you help me find something I like?
04:08I knew I had to help, so I rushed around the garden and collected a great big pile of different leaves.
04:16Some from flowers, some from weeds, some from bushes, and some from vegetables.
04:22It was time for her to give them a try.
04:25A long leaf.
04:27A big round leaf.
04:31A wiggly leaf.
04:33And then finally,
04:36She found a leaf that was tasty.
04:41It was a cabbage leaf, but this time, it was a red cabbage leaf.
04:47Munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch.
04:49Thank you, little cook.
04:50Now I've found my favourite leaf.
04:53She said.
04:55Once she'd eaten enough, it was time to wrap herself into a cocoon.
04:59She looked like she was snuggled up in a little sleeping bag, zipped right up to the top.
05:05Inside the cocoon, she would change from being a caterpillar into a butterfly.
05:11When she finally came out of the cocoon, she had changed so much.
05:16She couldn't wait to show off her new wings.
05:19Look at me.
05:20I'm ballooned with a butterfly, she said proudly.
05:25No wonder you like the red cabbage leaves, I chuckled.
05:29You're a red butterfly, and a very beautiful one too.
05:34Little cook to the rescue once again.
05:37That was a great adventure.
05:39Right, let's see.
05:40Oh, there's me as a baby with my mum.
05:42Oh, and there's me as a little boy.
05:45Oh, and there's Small as a little boy.
05:48And there's me in the garden.
05:51Oh, and there's Small all grown up.
05:54And there he is as a boy with some strawberries.
05:56Oh, and now there's me all grown up.
05:59Hey, hey.
05:59Whey, I'm back.
06:03Are you still in a muddle, Big Cook?
06:05Oh, yes, Small.
06:06I didn't realise I had so many photographs.
06:09Lots of photos of me growing up.
06:11And me.
06:13But we must put them in some sort of order.
06:16No time for that now, Big Cook.
06:17We've got a hungry butterfly to cook for.
06:19Oh, yes.
06:21What can we cook for Belinda the butterfly?
06:23Hmm.
06:24I'll put these photographs away, and then we can have a think.
06:29Oh!
06:30I know, Big Cook's Big Cookery book.
06:39Of course, the Big Cookery book.
06:41There's recipes for everything in there.
06:43And where do we look for things to cook?
06:46In the book.
06:46In the book.
06:47In Big Cook's book.
06:51Hey, hey.
06:52Just the thing.
06:53Cabbage butterfly.
06:54The leaves look just like butterfly wings.
06:57Belinda doesn't like white cabbage,
06:59but she loves red cabbage.
07:01OK, then, Little Cook,
07:02you read out the ingredients,
07:03and I'll see if we've got them.
07:05OK, let's see.
07:06We're going to need sausages,
07:08meat, or vegetarian.
07:10OK, in the fridge.
07:11Lovely sausages.
07:13Mmm.
07:13Here we go.
07:14Got them.
07:15Chives.
07:16There we go.
07:16Got the chives.
07:17Nice and green.
07:18Yep.
07:18Apple.
07:19Apple.
07:20That is in the fruit bowl.
07:22Here we go.
07:22Nice, red and juicy.
07:23Got it, Small.
07:24Bread.
07:25Bread in the cupboard.
07:27There we go.
07:28Loaf of bread.
07:28Got it.
07:29Oil.
07:30Oil.
07:31Oh, that's here too.
07:32Oil.
07:32Got that, Small.
07:33And raisins.
07:35Oh, raisins.
07:36There we go.
07:37And that's brilliant.
07:39So, here we are.
07:42Everything we need for the recipe.
07:44Oops.
07:45Sorry, Ben.
07:46I forgot the red cabbage.
07:48Oh, we haven't got any cabbage, Small.
07:51But why don't you whiz off and get some,
07:53and I'll get everything ready.
07:55That's a great idea.
07:56See you later.
07:57Hoo, hoo, hoo.
08:00Hey, why don't you come along too?
08:03Whoosh.
08:07Go, Small.
08:08Go, Small.
08:09Whiz away.
08:11I wonder what he'll see today.
08:13Oh, what a beautiful day.
08:26I wonder what those farmers are doing.
08:33Let's take a closer look.
08:34Oh, it's a red cabbage.
08:41Cabbages are a vegetable, and they grow out of the ground.
08:44There are white cabbages and red cabbages.
08:48Wow.
08:49Look at those leaves.
08:51They're enormous.
08:53The leaves are peeled away, and in the middle is the cabbage.
08:57Now the red cabbages are taken to the farm shop to sell.
09:08I'd better get this red cabbage back to the kitchen.
09:11Bye.
09:17Whee!
09:19I'm back.
09:20Oh, hello, little cook.
09:21How was your trip?
09:22It was great.
09:23I found out how you grow red cabbages.
09:26And look.
09:27Woo-hoo!
09:29Wow!
09:30Hey, hey!
09:30Hey, hey, hey!
09:32A red cabbage is a vegetable that grows up out of the ground.
09:37Sounds fantastic, Small.
09:39We're all ready, so take a look.
09:41And we will show you how to cook.
09:47Jelly boats and pirates go.
09:49Princess pea pies.
09:51Parrot cakes and fruit smiles.
09:52And envelopes surprise.
09:55We love our cafe and we love to cook.
09:58We have a fantastic recipe book.
10:04He is big cook and he is small.
10:08Friends in our cafe, we cook for them all.
10:12When your tummy gets all rumbly,
10:15You're ready for a treat.
10:17You can make something delicious to eat.
10:21Have you cleaned the surfaces?
10:29Yes.
10:30Have you washed your hands?
10:31Yes.
10:32All clean and ready to cook.
10:35Do you remember the ingredients to cabbage butterfly?
10:38You do?
10:40There were sausages.
10:42Four.
10:42Meat or vegetarian.
10:44Chives.
10:45Two.
10:46Apple.
10:47One whole eating apple.
10:48Chopped.
10:49Bread.
10:50Two slices made into crumbs.
10:52Oil.
10:53One tablespoon.
10:54Raisins.
10:55Two.
10:56And red cabbage.
10:58200 grams chopped.
10:59And four whole leaves.
11:02Whoopee.
11:03Let's get started.
11:05I've started by preheating the grill to a medium heat.
11:09And now it's time to cook the sausages.
11:11And make sure you get your grown-up helper to do this bit for you.
11:14Because remember, the grill is hot, hot, hot.
11:17In they go.
11:18Small, why don't you make the butterfly wings?
11:23Okie dokie.
11:24Butterfly wings for me.
11:26Hoo-hoo-hoo.
11:27You can cook sausages in the oven or fry them.
11:30Ours are under the grill.
11:31And we're going to leave them there till they go nice and brown.
11:35Hoo-hoo-hoo.
11:38Make some butterfly wings.
11:40How am I going to do that?
11:42Well, I can flap my arms like I'm flying.
11:45Hoo-hoo-hoo.
11:46Can you flap your arms like you're flying?
11:48It's fun, isn't it?
11:50Hoo-hoo-hoo.
11:51But Big Cup Ben said I need to make some butterfly wings.
11:54So I need to go and find some.
11:56Back in a minute.
11:57Hoo-hoo.
11:58Make sure the sausages are cooked right through.
12:01This should take about 15 to 20 minutes.
12:03And then pop them to one side until later.
12:08So now we can add the cabbage to a pan of boiling water.
12:12Now be careful.
12:14This is a job for your grown-up helper to do.
12:16Because it's a hob job.
12:18And remember, the hob is hot, hot, hot.
12:23In goes the rest of the cabbage.
12:27There we go.
12:28Press it down a little.
12:35Now the cabbage needs to boil for about two minutes.
12:38And then we can strain it through a colander.
12:43Hoo-hoo-hoo.
12:44Look at me.
12:45Ha-ha-ha.
12:46I couldn't find any butterfly wings, but I did find these.
12:51What do you think?
12:52They're like little antennae, bobbling about on my head.
12:55Hoo-hoo-hoo.
12:56Now I do look like a butterfly.
12:59Hoo-hoo-hoo.
13:00Have you made those butterfly wings yet, Small?
13:04Oops.
13:05Not yet, Big Cook.
13:06Hmm.
13:08Butterfly wings.
13:09Hey, I've got an idea.
13:12Back in a bit.
13:15Look.
13:16The red cabbage has turned the water blue.
13:18Now, just rinse the cabbage under the cold tap.
13:22Here we go.
13:25Turn on the tap.
13:28There we are.
13:29Rinse all the leaves.
13:34Here we go.
13:34Mixy, mixy, mixy, mixy.
13:43I've heated the oil and I've fried the chopped cabbage and the apple for about five minutes.
13:48So now, I'm going to stir in the breadcrumbs.
13:54Here we go.
13:55And cook them too.
14:03Hoo-hoo-hoo.
14:04Do you like my butterfly wings?
14:06I found this napkin.
14:08Perfect for the job.
14:10Now I really do look like a butterfly.
14:12Hoo-hoo-hoo.
14:13Bicker Ben.
14:15Bicker Ben.
14:16I'll be over in a minute, Small.
14:18I'm at the hob, which is hot, hot, hot.
14:20So I need to concentrate.
14:22Right.
14:23I've chopped up three of the sausages.
14:25And I'm going to stir them into the mixture for about a minute.
14:35But I've found some perfect butterfly wings.
14:38This napkin.
14:39Look.
14:40What are you up to, Small?
14:42I've been making the butterfly wings like you said.
14:44Oh-ho-ho-ho.
14:46What I meant was, lay the cabbage leaves on a baking tray like this.
14:51They make the butterfly wings.
14:53Oh-ho-ho-ho.
14:54Oops.
14:55Oh-ho-ho-ho.
14:56Hee-hee-hee.
14:57Right.
14:58I've already brushed the cabbage leaves with a little oil.
15:02And now, we can pour in the mixture.
15:10So, I'm going to put some in each wing.
15:14Very carefully.
15:16Like this.
15:19Here we go.
15:21And this one.
15:25And some in this one down here.
15:32Brilliant.
15:34And then, we can pop on the fourth sausage as our butterfly's body.
15:40And all we need to now is pop it in the oven for 15 minutes.
15:44So, oven gloves on.
15:47And over we go.
15:51And open the oven.
15:53Now, I've preheated the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
15:56Gas mark six.
15:58So, pop them in.
15:59And cook them for 15 minutes.
16:04I'll set the timer.
16:07For 15 minutes.
16:16When the butterfly is cooked and cooled, arrange it onto a plate like this.
16:20And then add two bits of chives as antennae.
16:27Like mine.
16:29And then, pop two raisins on top.
16:34Is it ready, Ben?
16:36It certainly is, little cook.
16:37Belinda the butterfly's in for a real treat.
16:41One cabbage butterfly coming through.
16:49There.
16:50All done.
16:51So, what do we do now?
16:53Can we play?
16:54Not yet.
16:55Time to clean and put away.
16:57Hooray!
16:58Hooray!
16:59Wash, wipe, scrub and clean.
17:08Make the kitchen sparkle and gleam.
17:10My name's Ben.

17:15And my name's Paul.
17:16We've got the cleanest kitchen of all.
17:21Tidy all the bits and bobs.
17:22The things that help us do our jobs.
17:25Ingredients well put away.
17:26Ready for use another day.
17:28Pots and pans will start to smell.
17:30If we don't wash them really well.
17:31If we don't wash them really well.
17:32And now it's clear.
17:33Let's all smile.
17:33We'll be finished in a little while.
17:35All around.
17:37Up and down.
17:38We've got the cleanest cafe in town.
17:42A-ha.
17:42Here comes the plate.
17:53Oh yes.
17:54And it looks like Belinda enjoyed her cabbage butterfly.
17:57Look, Small.
17:58She's left a note.
17:59What does it say?
18:00What does it say?
18:02Let's see, shall we?
18:04It says, Dear Big Cook Ben and Little Cook Small.
18:07My cabbage butterfly was delicious.
18:10Woo-hoo.
18:11To say thank you, I thought you might like a photo album.
18:14To help you put all your photos in order.
18:17From Belinda the butterfly.
