Cookery series with Big Cook Ben and foot-high Little Cook Small. Big Cook Ben is painting a picture for a competition and it looks like Little Cook Small can fill in as the missing piece to his prize-winning painting. Before Ben can paint the sun, he runs out of yellow paint. Just then Dougie the Decorator comes into the cafe to do some painting. Ben cooks him fruity borders as a meal, and as a thank you Dougie leaves Ben and Small a pot of yellow paint so Ben can finish his painting.

00:00Big cook, little cook, welcome to our cafe.
00:10Big cook, little cook, want you to come and play.
00:17Meeting all the friends we cook for, sharing stories, trips and fun.
00:24Big cook, little cook, we'll cook for everyone.
00:30Lovely, lovely blue sky. Very nice.
00:36Oh, hello. Welcome to our cafe, the best cafe in the world.
00:42I'm doing a painting.
00:44Now, I've nearly finished, I've just got to pop the sun up there.
00:48But it looks a little bit empty down at the bottom here as well.
00:51What can I paint in there?
00:55This is good, Ben.
00:57Ben, small. You fit the space perfectly. I could put you in my painting.
01:02Oh, goody. What's the painting for, Ben?
01:05I have to make a painting called A Sunny Day at the Seaside. It's for a competition.
01:10It doesn't look very sunny, Ben.
01:13Well, that's because I haven't done the sun yet.
01:16Do you want to be in this painting or not, small?
01:18Oh, sorry, Ben. Yes, I do. How shall I stand?
01:22OK, just sort of walk along the beach there.
01:24OK, right, you are.
01:26OK.
01:27Not like that, small. Just don't move.
01:30But you said you wanted me to walk along.
01:32No, I want you to look like you're walking, but really, you have to be standing still.
01:36OK, like this?
01:38What? No, that looks like you're running, small.
01:41Um, OK, like this?
01:43No, now it looks like you're dancing, small.
01:46Well, what, then?
01:48That's it. Perfect. Stay like that and I'll paint you just as you are.
01:52Ben, I don't think I can stand like this for much longer.
01:55Well, you won't have to stand there very long if you just keep still.
01:58Oh, my legs are really wobbly.
02:01Just pretend you're a statue.
02:02OK, statue. Statue. I can do this. Come on, small, I can do this.
02:07There we are. Finished.
02:20You can relax now, small.
02:23Phew!
02:24That's right, you have a bit of a rest.
02:26What do you think?
02:27Oh, Ben, that looks really good.
02:30Is it? Really?
02:32Well, thanks, small.
02:34Now all I have to do is paint the sun.
02:37Oh, hang on.
02:39I haven't got any yellow.
02:43Yeah, there's no yellow to do the sun.
02:46Oh, what was that?
02:49I'll have a look.
02:55Wee-hee!
03:02Who is it, small?
03:03Oh, don't worry, Ben. It's just the decorator.
03:09He's painting our cafe today, remember?
03:12And he's putting up some wallpaper.
03:14Ooh!
03:15Ooh!
03:16Well, he's a very noisy decorator.
03:18Has he started yet?
03:21Oh!
03:21Oops.
03:22Sorry.
03:22Yes, Ben.
03:25He's started.
03:27Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.
03:29Oh, that's the second time you've been painted today, small.
03:34Huh?
03:35Oh, he-he-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.
03:37Very funny, Ben.
03:39Well, we must think of something to make for him.
03:41He'll be very hungry after all that work.
03:44You're right, Ben.
03:45I think it's time to look in my book.
03:57We need a story to help us cook.
04:00Let's take a look in Little Cook's book.
04:04Little Cook's Adventures in the Big World.
04:07Let me see.
04:09Here we are.
04:11This story is called The Perfect Colour.
04:14One day, Dougie the decorator started a new job.
04:18He was going to paint the bedroom of two little girls,
04:21called Mira and Sunita.
04:23The girls had chosen a bright blue colour for the walls.
04:27When Dougie had finished, he called the girls to come and see.
04:31But they didn't look very happy.
04:34I'm not sure about this blue colour, said Mira.
04:38Maybe we should have pink walls instead, said Sunita.
04:42So the next day, Dougie came back, and he painted the room pink.
04:47By the end of the day, he had finished his work.
04:50He called Mira and Sunita to come and see.
04:53I think this looks better, said Mira.
04:57I don't, said Sunita.
05:00I think the blue walls looked better.
05:03The girls still couldn't decide which colour their room should be.
05:06So Dougie said he'd come back the next day.
05:10He went to see his friend, Little Cook Small.
05:13I don't know what to do, he sighed.
05:17Those girls just can't decide whether the room should be blue or pink.
05:22I'll never get this job finished.
05:25Little Cook had an idea.
05:27If the girls can't decide whether to have blue paint or pink paint, let's give them both.
05:35The next day, I took a pot of the blue paint and a pot of the pink paint and mixed them up in a large bucket.
05:42As the two colours mixed together, they slowly turned into a beautiful purple colour.
05:47We quickly painted the walls with a new colour and called the girls to come and see.
05:54Oh, it's beautiful, said Mira.
05:58I love it, agreed Sunita.
06:02Phew, said the decorator.
06:05Everyone was happy.
06:07Little Cook to the rescue once again.
06:11That was a great adventure.
06:14Great, and what a clever idea to mix up the paint like that.
06:17Oh, thanks a lot, Ben.
06:22But now we need a clever idea for the decorator's lunch.
06:29It's no good, Small.
06:30I can't think with all the noise the decorator's making.
06:33Sounds like the decorator's putting up the wallpaper already.
06:36Now, what can we make for him?
06:42Oh!
06:43I know, Big Cook's Big Cookery book!
06:50Of course, the Big Cookery book.
06:52There's recipes for everything in there.
06:54And where do we look for things to cook?
06:56In the book!
06:57In the book!
06:57In Big Cook's book!
07:00Oh, yes, Small, look!
07:02The very thing for a decorator's lunch.
07:04Fruity borders.
07:05They look yummy!
07:08But what's our borders, Ben?
07:10Borders are a special kind of wallpaper.
07:12Thin pieces that you put around the edges of your walls as a kind of extra decoration.
07:16It makes them look all pretty.
07:18Now, you read out the ingredients, little cook, and I'll see if we've got them.
07:21OK, Big Cook, Ben.
07:22Let's see.
07:23We're going to need one kiwi fruit.
07:25Kiwi fruit over in the fruit bowl.
07:27There we are.
07:28Kiwi fruit.
07:28Got that.
07:29Some black grapes.
07:30Black grapes.
07:31Oh, lovely.
07:32Got them too.
07:34Icing pens.
07:34Icing pens in the cupboard.
07:36Oh, there we are.
07:37Two icing pens.
07:38Got them.
07:39Rice paper.
07:41Rice paper.
07:41Oh, yes, got the rice paper.
07:42There we go.
07:43Got them.
07:44And some tiny biscuits.
07:45Tiny biscuits, lovely.
07:48There we are.
07:49OK.
07:50OK.
07:51Got everything small.
07:53Funny little biscuits, aren't they?
07:55Just the right size for me.
07:58But how are biscuits made, Ben?
08:00Hmm.
08:01Why don't you whiz off and find out, little cook?
08:04And I can finish my seaside painting.
08:06I'll have everything ready for the recipe when you get back.
08:08Great idea, Ben.
08:10I'll be back in a jiffy.
08:11Hey, why don't you come along too?
08:18Whoa!
08:20Whoa!
08:23Go small, go small, whiz away!
08:26I wonder what he'll see today.
08:35There's a train!
08:37Choo-choo!
08:38He-he-he!
08:46I'm so excited!
08:49To make biscuits, we have to put all the ingredients in a mixing bowl.
08:53First the flour.
08:57Then the butter.
09:02And last the sugar.
09:04He-he-he!
09:10This is the fun bit, mixing it all together.
09:13Woo-hoo!
09:13Looks a bit messy.
09:20It's mixed together into a ball.
09:22That's called a rolling pin.
09:35It's used to roll out the mixture so it's nice and flat.
09:38Woo-hoo!
09:40Do you know what that is?
09:58It's a biscuit cutter, and it's in the shape of an animal.
10:02What animal is it?
10:03It's an elephant!
10:08Woo-hoo!
10:22Now the elephant biscuits need to be cooked.
10:25Remember that a grown-up helper has to put them in the oven
10:31Are they cooked? Are they cooked?
10:43Ooh, yes they are
10:44Just need to add the finishing touches
10:49Each elephant needs an eye
10:56We must wait for them to cool down before we eat them
11:14Thank you!
11:16Yummy, yummy, I love biscuits!
11:19They've made some for me too! See you later!
11:38Oh, I still can't find any yellow paint to do the sun
11:41Hooray! I'm back!
11:48Oh, Ben, it was brilliant!
11:50I saw how biscuits are made!
11:52Ooh, what's the matter, Ben?
11:55Ooh, something terrible's happened
11:57Oh no, what?
12:00My painting's ruined, I still can't find any yellow paint to do the sun
12:05How can I finish my sunny day at the seaside picture if I can't paint the sun?
12:09Oh, come on Ben! You can always get some more paint
12:13But right now it's cooking time!
12:15And I know how much you love cooking, don't you?
12:19Don't you, Ben?
12:20Yes, I do love cooking
12:22I suppose you're right, Small
12:24I can always get some more paint
12:25It's just I really wanted to finish my picture today
12:28I know, but our decorator will be getting really hungry by now
12:32Come on, it's Fruity Borders time!
12:35OK, we're all ready, so take a look
12:38And we will show you how to cook

13:40Black grapes
13:41Sliced

13:45Rice paper
13:47Three sheets
13:48And tiny biscuits
13:50And tiny biscuits
13:50Three
13:51Yippee
13:52Yippee
13:53Let's get started
13:54Now this rice paper
13:55Now this rice paper can get a little bit sticky
13:58So I'm going to lay it out on this board
14:00There we are
14:01Three sheets of rice paper
14:04Laid out side by side
14:06One long border
14:08Now this is the good bit
14:09Goody
14:10Now we're going to make a pattern
14:12Now we're going to make a pattern
14:12With the grapes
14:13Kiwi fruit
14:14And biscuits
14:15Okay
14:16First of all
14:17We're going to put the grapes together
14:19Like this
14:20To make a little triangle
14:24There we are
14:26One, two, three
14:27One, two
14:29And another one there
14:31To make a little bunch of grapes
14:32I could be a decorator
14:34Dib, dib, dib

14:38Dib, dib, dib
14:40Splish, splash, splosh

14:49Here
14:50There we are
14:52And one here
14:53Lovely
14:55And then I'm going to take one of the biscuits
14:57And put it there
15:00There we go
15:02And I'm going to continue with the pattern
15:03All the way to the end of the rice paper
15:05You can make any pattern you like with the fruits
15:08The juice from the fruit
15:11Should help these pieces of rice paper
15:12Stick together beautifully
15:15Icky sticky
15:16The fruity pattern looks great, doesn't it?
15:19Yes, it looks brilliant
15:20But it's going to look even better
15:23When I add the finishing touches with the
15:25Ta-da
15:26Icing pen
15:27Hooray
15:29The really fun part
15:31Now I'm going to use this icing pen
