00:00:00what's happening guys welcome in to wake up barstool hey guess what i don't have holes in
00:00:05my pants okay so stop talking about my holes in my pants look we got a lot to get to on today's
00:00:11show college football playoffs yesterday we're going to recap all of it ha alabama we got david
00:00:17pollock and our guy baldy brian baldinger stopping by and nfl week 18 preview the money corner and
00:00:23all starts now on fs1 who's yours let's go baby let's get it on
00:00:30what's happening everybody i hope you're having an
00:00:53excellent friday this is wake up barstool given the holiday-esque nature of the calendar we got a
00:01:00very fun and disparate crew for you today pretty cfb heavy day i mean i look around the room i see a
00:01:06lot of passionate college football fans uh that's how i've cut my teeth i'm t my baby we got michael
00:01:12kadik former indiana great now leading the charge from the media standpoint we got our guy big t
00:01:19we got connor griffin and what i must say a fantastically old school penn state sweater
00:01:25love it thank you very much and our girl megan making money who remains hot in the picks department
00:01:31also a massive cfb girly herself guys how are we feeling uh i loved yesterday i love this for i love
00:01:39this quarterfinal round even though there were a couple of boring games we didn't get treated with
00:01:44an instant classic uh but even the boring games i feel like were interesting enough in their results
00:01:49as to set the table for what is a very novel and a very exciting final four here i think we got to
00:01:56start with kadik yeah how's this guy feeling i feel great i actually didn't go out last night wow
00:02:01oh no no we're surprising i worked at our guy that's what we're leading with yeah we had old
00:02:09miss georgia and we're leading with kadik not going out i had a great day yesterday i had an
00:02:14unbelievable day yesterday the hoosiers beat the crap out of uh alabama it was so much fun to watch
00:02:20it was enjoyable um maybe the first drive i was nervous and then after that it was kind of just a
00:02:25blowout um but yeah the the day was great it ended off great with uh old miss and
00:02:31georgia so we got a little a little something there yeah i think um look man the the the thing
00:02:37about indiana is and we talked about it all week on this show and um the thing about it is that's
00:02:47who indiana has been for the better part of two years now like that's what we continue to have to
00:02:53wake up and realize this is not the exception what you witnessed yesterday it is the rule and especially
00:03:00this season i mean outside of the penn state game in which their backs are truly against the wall
00:03:05this is what indiana has done week in and week out they are more talented than you think they are uh
00:03:13more uh consistent than you think and they execute at a level in all three phases of the game
00:03:20that is unparalleled by anybody in the country i mean i think you doubt it like the execution that
00:03:26these players have it's just it's unbelievable like in years past years that i've played there
00:03:31there was just a lot of miss assignments a lot of inconsistent play on you know both sides of the
00:03:37ball special teams but now it's like it's it's it's unbelievable and big t said it's like the high
00:03:42school team that is always going to be very very good and i kind of agree with that like the high
00:03:48school team you play that's just always good you don't have the best talent but it's always well
00:03:52very good i think it comes from coaching so the i it absolutely comes coaching you played for sig
00:03:57you can speak that we'll get to that and i want to throw to ut real quick all i'll say is i still
00:04:02maintain this indiana team has more talent than we want to give it credit for they have one of the
00:04:09best offensive lines in the entire country full of nfl guys they've got the heisman trophy winner
00:04:13at quarterback all the skill guys are nfl guys like the only group to me that i look at and i struggle
00:04:20to be like and how are they so dominant is the kind of undersized d line yeah like it's it is a
00:04:26bit i can't fully understand how the d line can be the size they are and yet be so dis consistently
00:04:31disruptive but not have to add to the rush yeah like yes there's stimulated pressures a lot of
00:04:35movement but they just make plays but like that's the only kind of plucky group that i see when i look
00:04:41at this indiana team t what was your takeaway from uh from from the rose bowl yeah like i said to
00:04:47katik i said it was like a high school team where you don't even need to know who's on the team like
00:04:52for for our east tennessee viewers out there i think alcoa high school just won their 11th straight
00:04:56state championship shout out alcoa and i think they're supposed to be a 2a school but they just
00:05:01keep moving up and they're going to be in like five or six and they just keep winning because it like i
00:05:05don't you don't need to know who's on the team they're going to win the state championship every
00:05:08year that you just have elite execution and coaching and like indiana they don't miss blocks they
00:05:13don't miss tackles every play just does what it's designed to do the run they have two awesome
00:05:19running backs they have two great receivers like yeah they're they're an awesome football team and
00:05:25mendoza's a kind of a microcosm of that and that he just doesn't make a mistake yeah when he has to
00:05:30run the ball and escape he did it consistently yesterday doesn't put the ball in harm's way for
00:05:34the most part um he's just executing at such a high level and it's funny because on last night's
00:05:41roughness uh somebody said something about you know it's it's so funny what's what's happened
00:05:45to pavia since the heisman compared to mendoza and in a lot of ways mendoza is kind of anti pavia in my
00:05:51mind mendoza is the anti everything in the modern culture all of the cynicism all of the anger all of
00:06:01the ill will towards one another that has infected our society through social media and the internet top
00:06:07the bottom fernando mendoza is here to save us from it all he brings a sincerity a joy and like
00:06:14a genuine kindness to the game that i find to be magnetically attractive i love you fernando
00:06:21katie do we know does he have an iphone there's no chance confirmed yeah does he use it yeah
00:06:27he's on like social media okay he's on linkedin linkedin and youtube okay that's it he watches
00:06:34youtube videos okay that's fair yeah i love youtube youtube's best but he dude he like i mean he he's
00:06:40with the boys all the time like he's not just like a he plays video games in his apartment like he's
00:06:45with the boys like they have a good time yeah the hoggies so he's not i mean obviously the things you
00:06:51see uh post game and his interviews that's in a in a unique setting but like once he gets with the
00:06:57boys he's very chill and i mean he's totally cool but even that is interesting because you like
00:07:03the the type of person he is it's easy to be pigeonholed into the russell wilson category yeah
00:07:10where russ is very kind in in many ways or the kirk cousins like everyone says like kirk yes right but
00:07:15like but but it doesn't seem like maybe he always is vibing with his boys so you're saying that
00:07:21mendoza can even struggle the gap yeah being the guy that we see the post game interviews
00:07:24and maybe having a few cold ones yeah biggins you're not gonna see fernando mendoza saying
00:07:30mr unlimited you're not gonna see that you're not you're just not russ kind of did lose his way a
00:07:35little bit he did russ was the puppy who lost his way he did lose uh connor what does this mean for
00:07:39alabama well yeah god i don't know where you go for alabama you had everybody saying on the broadcast
00:07:45like this is embarrassing like this is a really pathetic look for the crimson tide
00:07:49we talked about it all week i'm not going to bring up certain names i'm not going to bring
00:07:55up uh landon locker i'm not going to bring up any of that but there obviously were people who
00:08:02were saying that alabama was going to win this game i just we saw this alabama team i know they
00:08:07went to athens earlier in the year and they had this great win over georgia but then we also saw them
00:08:12face up against georgia two months later and they were two vastly different teams we saw a very
00:08:18similar version of what played out yesterday in that sec championship except yesterday i would
00:08:23argue was maybe 10 times worse uh and kurt signetti the guy he has clips where people say he's full
00:08:30of it he's cocky this guy no way he believes what he's saying i fully believe that he believes
00:08:36everything he's saying and everything that he said whether it's ohio state and michigan suck
00:08:40whether it's you know we beat the crap out of top 25 teams like maybe last year there were moments
00:08:46where it didn't didn't necessarily pan out but he was not wrong he was just a little bit early now i
00:08:51mean you're seeing it play out full throttle they are just a juggernaut well and he's he's kind of
00:08:56eliminated any excuse that any new coach could ever make this face right here yeah is the absolute best
00:09:03this was after kalen deborah who is a very good coach in his own right but just ran up against the
00:09:10most unstoppable force in college football right now that face that's after kalen deborah tried to run the
00:09:16fourth down shenanigans where they line up and punt and they try to go under center try to draw
00:09:20them off sides they call time out they come out try to run the ball they get stuffed up for the one
00:09:23and it's just like bruh um are you serious you're certain that kalen deborah's a great coach i i do
00:09:30believe so i know i know i know people aren't aren't high on him right now i i i believe that i think he
00:09:36accepted a um i think he accepted a job and following in the wake of nick saban that is about as
00:09:42challenging even with all the advantages that have been built in that when you take over that kind
00:09:47of culture you try to continue on i think there's a great challenge in that i think it's a very tough
00:09:54look that now it's two four lost seasons in a row granted one of those in sc championship but there's
00:09:59like i think michael pennix and roma dunze might have done a lot for his career i don't know i mean
00:10:04but but kalen deborah's also a guy like signetti who's won every level that he's been at and and and i do
00:10:09think there's a lot of value not at alabama uh yeah i mean he made the playoff but they have an
00:10:14impossible expectation that doesn't mean anything anymore uh i i think to the vast majority of
00:10:21schools it would but to kind of your point and my point i do believe in the context of alabama that
00:10:26you're right like what kalen deborah is doing at alabama would be okay and good for a lot of schools
00:10:31but for alabama yeah it's anathema the disaster the product yes okay they made it to the playoff they got
00:10:37to 10 wins they made it to an sec championship game the product is not the alabama product that
00:10:42we're used to seeing but big t i'll ask you this because i know but that's the problem the product
00:10:48sorry but the product of alabama that we're used to seeing though was always it's it's singular for
00:10:54a reason because the product was the number one team in the country year in and year out correct
00:11:00like the closest thing that we have to alabama now is actually indiana this season well yeah and the
00:11:06the trenches that used to be always you chalk that up as a win for alabama it's not the case anymore
00:11:11but you pointed out you have alabama as what the fourth best job in the sec it might be fifth
00:11:17but i mean we just assume that alabama like has all these resources yeah job job job program job
00:11:25yeah we assume although they might be the fourth or fifth best program now too but
00:11:29yeah they they we assume that they have all this stuff caked in where they could win and anybody
00:11:33could walk into that situation and do totally fine but in this new age of nil and transfer portal
00:11:39where the playing field has been even a lot i don't know if alabama anybody could just walk into
00:11:44their win and obviously you have the expectations of following up nick saban it's very difficult well
00:11:48you mentioned nil and the transfer portal i mean look at the final four that we got we will essentially
00:11:54be crowning a a a first-time national champion and obviously miami's had their time but it's been a long
00:12:00time i've been on this uh regarding tennessee in particular but now i just believe it generally
00:12:06uh you should never pay a quarterback out of high school ever yeah i don't think you should pay a
00:12:10lot of people out of high school yeah i want tennessee to have a transfer quarterback every single
00:12:15season until that change how how i mean look do it change to to to to a man mendoza yes chambliss
00:12:24more and and and more is kind of interesting because he was signed with oregon then they brought
00:12:31in he's a double nicks right and then he was like oh okay well actually i want to play i'm going to
00:12:36usually uh i thought it was nick it doesn't matter so he goes to ucelia because he wants to play
00:12:41immediately he gets humbled and then he makes the very mature decision so you know what i'm going to
00:12:46go sit behind dylan gabriel for a year i'm going to learn and then will be my time but yeah transfer
00:12:51quarterbacks one and all and it makes sense why would you pay a guy out of high school
00:12:54especially when they're just going to hold it over you that they're going to transfer every single
00:12:57year whereas you could go get a proven product and and it'll cost you a little bit more but you
00:13:03know what you're getting yeah and sig says it all the time product over potential like he's he'd rather
00:13:08go out and get someone that's proven to show a good product on the field at the college level
00:13:13and then rather than build like he's not going to pay someone to come out of high school and go play
00:13:18quarterback right away he'd rather watch them put a product on the field and prove it at a high level
00:13:24and then you know and then raise a quarterback through the class you know what i'm saying but
00:13:28no no i know exactly all this whole transfer portal thing like a quarterback doesn't want to sit anymore
00:13:34they want to play immediately but they don't understand like you have to come you have to mature
00:13:39at the college level before you can play like it's just well and there's something about winning no
00:13:43matter what level of football you're coaching and or playing at signetti's proving that trinidad
00:13:48chambliss is proving that and that'll miss georgia game so like in this business so often we like to
00:13:55like pound our chest when we're right right um but guess what we're right just as much as we're wrong
00:14:01and it's like yeah i i feel like i do really good read on indiana alabama but i also sat here all week
00:14:07and consistently said old miss did not stand a chance in this game against georgia right georgia figured
00:14:12something out in the fourth quarter they've ascended old miss doesn't have their head coach
00:14:16and it looked to be true and maybe that's the craziest part about last night is going into
00:14:21half georgia appeared to be in firm control of that game and yet here comes trinidad chambliss and i
00:14:28love when you watch a guy just perform achieve greatness he stands on his head 24th quarter points
00:14:35and they end up knocking off kirby smart and the georgia bulldogs in the sugar bowl amidst all the
00:14:42adversity all the drama and like they're not like indiana play was crazy they're not statistically
00:14:48dominant drive looked like ncaa football it was crazy um by the way tebow i guess you can say georgia
00:14:55was in control because they were up nine and old miss like had the botched field goal at the end
00:15:00they had a scoop and score late in the first half like old miss was playing better than them in the
00:15:05first half too it was self-inflicted wounds by old miss well i thought it was pretty even from
00:15:09playing perspective but but but even then like a scoop and score though to me is not fluky that's
00:15:15a sign of like that was like georgia dominant like like that felt like the play that's kind of fluky
00:15:20that that that felt like the play where it's like oh okay well this is where georgia takes over the
00:15:24game they got they got a defensive touchdown scoop and score it's like when tennessee when alabama had
00:15:29the the the the play right before half against tennessee and that put them up what 17 yeah that's
00:15:35different but the but the the the the point is they were up nine at half defensive touchdown it's georgia
00:15:43against an old miss team that doesn't have a head coach that hasn't been statistically dominant
00:15:48offensively or defensively compared to every other team in the field like it was it's
00:15:53there were i've seen that play out a million times and there was no way old miss winning the game
00:15:59and then they get the the face mask that doesn't get called that should have won by a lot and then
00:16:04and then you have the the kind of questionable pass interference so old miss every like i've watched
00:16:09so much old miss football and they lose that game a hundred times out of a hundred for their entire
00:16:16school history maybe outside of the 60s yeah and yet trinidad chambliss from ferris state proven on the
00:16:24division two level stands on his head and creates a win i two things number one these teams have played
00:16:31twice now and there's nothing to indicate i think it's clear as day old miss is just a better team
00:16:35than them and georgia got away several times this year they probably should have lost to tennessee
00:16:41they were flirting around with auburn and florida like they got out by the skin of their teeth several
00:16:47times um but also maybe i'm crazy i know indiana has the heisman trophy winner there's a lot of great
00:16:53players reuben bain if i was drafting a team of the players remaining in the college football playoff
00:16:59i'm taking trinidad chambliss number one overall am i remembering correctly that he was a third string
00:17:06whenever the season started yeah uh most second i wouldn't find that hard to believe i i mean
00:17:12who's their other one i i don't know but the point is austin simmons was supposed to be the guy right
00:17:18and this is actually a huge credit to the gm lane given who you already read the credit to it's a credit
00:17:22to old miss's roster creation that uh that they go out there and they give themselves this insurance
00:17:29plan behind simmons and then it makes a little bit of luck because they were playing simmons
00:17:33and if it hadn't been for injury who knows if they would have ever given trinidad his true shot
00:17:38but then credit to chambliss like he said in the post game last night the dude's just a gamer
00:17:42yeah aj aj maddox i guess was the other one but i and he was he was i mean it would have made sense
00:17:47for him to be the two he's been in the program you bring in this guy from ferris state who knows
00:17:51and then all he does is go and earn it well to big t's point i absolutely agree that game could
00:17:57have been way worse for georgia last night if not for that fake punt where they were yeah the fake
00:18:01that was a great play by kirby smart great execution but georgia was reeling at that time it would have
00:18:07been two straight or three straight three and outs the offense was struggling you had chambliss on the
00:18:13other side just absolutely tearing it up that was one of the most fun performances we've seen in the
00:18:17playoff ever yeah and now this old miss team yeah i'm really curious old miss in miami facing off
00:18:22in the final four i would not have expected that we haven't said it yet we haven't said it yet we
00:18:27have to say the the name congrats ben mince congrats mince hell yeah man he's having the best playoff
00:18:33anybody could imagine yeah widespread over new year straight into an old miss sugar bowl and
00:18:39would say of the vast majority of the crowd they knock off kirby smart in an exciting comeback fashion
00:18:46it it it boggles the mind oh and shout out lucas canero i mean we we talk about i want that guy
00:18:52bad we talk about college kickers sucking all the time uh you have you have ohio state fans in the
00:18:59cave yesterday constantly complaining about their kicker alabama fans constantly complaining about
00:19:03their kicker canero just comes out and is it is lights out and and and shout out lane kiffin
00:19:11shout out lane kiffin who made another five hundred thousand dollars paid by lsu to uh
00:19:16be at the lsu women's basketball game yesterday with i think they're kind of regretting putting that in
00:19:22there about now i think um i think we're so d drunk that we're not really regretting anything at this
00:19:30point it's still a very still a very heady heady time down there in baton rouge all right look at that
00:19:38the old girl looks beautiful in the winter more wake up barstool a lot more college football talk
00:19:44coming up next don't go anywhere
00:19:45what's happening y'all welcome back wake up barstool love it here on a friday uh okay so let's dive back
00:19:57into college football again we're going to set the nfl scene later on we still got katie's crawlers
00:20:02we'll go into the film room very excited to have both uh david pock and our guy brian balding are on
00:20:08the show later as well uh but let's let's dive back into the playoffs yesterday so again old miss
00:20:13georgia instant classic alabama indiana a shocking level of domination we broke down uh the very
00:20:21impressive miami performance yesterday the one we have not talked about yet is oregon and that's kind
00:20:26of fitting because this is an oregon team that that's kind of where they've existed all season
00:20:30long just played really really good looked really complete and yet never really moved into the main
00:20:39headline space at any time of the year and and a lot of that's because when they ran up against
00:20:44indiana they they kind of got dominated but in many ways they they shut out texas tech 23-0 at the
00:20:50orange bowl um and i want to say this real quick on texas techs i'm not sure how much we'll talk about
00:20:55them here uh their defense was incredible yeah like texas tech's defense did its job and then some
00:21:01like they were so worth the hype all the front seven showed up they just got nothing from their
00:21:07offense and eventually you kind of break down that's just how it goes i thought oregon was going
00:21:11to win the game because they were going to be able to run the ball better than other teams have they
00:21:14could not run the ball no texas all their points came from throwing the ball all the way down the
00:21:18field and and and you know baron morton uh texas ex quarterback entered the the tournament as
00:21:23the guy with kind of the most question marks lowest qbr and and you could see it as he played
00:21:27really poorly granted tough spot tackles getting your butt kicked right like it was just a disaster
00:21:33off it yeah they were they were their offensive tackles were horrendous i mean they opened we
00:21:37watched it in the cave this year and every time they would lose a rep they opened their hips
00:21:41immediately and just gave up a two-way street for this for the edge rusher to pick and he would just
00:21:47have his way with it and it's also a credit to oregon's defense which has been a top five defense all
00:21:52year long shout out uangale rushing the passer the freshman corner brandon finney jr a guy who had
00:21:5818 years old as a true freshman allowed the lowest completion percentage in the entire country uh when
00:22:05targeted in coverage uh i think he had the most pass breakups of any quarterback in the in the big
00:22:09ten he's now the second player in cfp history to have three turnovers in a single game and that's
00:22:15the thing about oregon to me they are indiana just a year earlier right now they're a little younger a
00:22:25little more inexperienced but they feel complete in every phase of the game they execute at a very
00:22:32high level and this rematch between these two is going to be electric very excited about it this is
00:22:38a team that's evolved throughout the course of the year obviously very young as you pointed out
00:22:42they they needed some time to get their footing a little bit find their identity they're now i mean
00:22:46hit on all cylinders and that game yesterday you know the front seven well it was great for oregon
00:22:52the defensive backfield was phenomenal they just had morton in hell and dante moore also faced a ton
00:22:58of pressure how many times was oregon starting it was like second and 20 yeah or they were constantly
00:23:03behind the chains behind the chains non-stop but they were able to fight through it and i don't want
00:23:07anybody to delegitimize that win from oregon and say oh well you know i guess texas tech just wasn't
00:23:12that good you know maybe they're just yeah the product of playing in a week big 12 or whatever the
00:23:16case is that was the best scoring offense in the power four from texas tech and oregon absolutely shut
00:23:23them down yeah they texas tech coming into the game is getting 42 and a half points a game yeah they
00:23:27scored zero that's not just chalking it up to oh yeah they weren't as good yeah and and texas tech's
00:23:32defense i mean very clearly was a championship level defense um the offense was just too much
00:23:40maybe the offense was a bit of a product of the schedule because like they just they're just they
00:23:46just weren't good enough to handle elite defense and and you even kind of saw some signs of this i
00:23:50keep thinking back to that utah game where really the offense in the first half looked a lot like they
00:23:55did in this game only the defense kept staying on ted eventually they came through but it's still a
00:23:59great year for texas tech yeah it's still a great year still a very good team very deserving to be
00:24:04in the position that they were they just now have to go back and figure some things out maybe invest
00:24:08that o-line the same way they did the front seven this last year um that game though i will say like
00:24:14it felt like there was a thousand plays bad and good and then like halftime it was only three nothing
00:24:19yeah like there was picks there was fumbles yeah i mean like everything you can think of in that game
00:24:24happened in the first half well how many times did oregon try and go for it on fourth down and texas
00:24:29tech was able to stop them it was crazy still only 16 to nothing in i think in the fourth quarter
00:24:35yeah yeah or actually yeah right until the very end right the touchdown right like texas tech was
00:24:40they were never in the game because they couldn't score but they were it the game was never put away
00:24:46until the last 30 seconds yeah no on paper they were still right yeah it's uh only it which is funny
00:24:51because i'll credit brandon walker here he had a funny joke when it was six nothing he said it's a
00:24:56three score game because three safeties might have been the only way yeah that uh that the red
00:25:01raiders were gonna tie that thing up shout out joey mcguire though we still love you big fan of wub
00:25:07you're our guy again great season for the raiders they just ran into an oregon team and dan lanning
00:25:12who's one of the best young coaches in the entire country a program on the rise and one that looks to
00:25:17be as much of a perennial national contender as anyone in the country uh and and their story's not
00:25:24written yet again this game of the indiana is going to be massive but like oregon i would buy
00:25:28all the future stock in oregon as well the same way i would buy indiana but here you see it guys
00:25:33oregon indiana fiesta bowl rematch at night for my money the two most impressive teams from this round
00:25:44uh is it the peach bowl yeah how are you feeling about this matchup k-dick no i mean obviously earlier
00:25:50of the year just two like two high-powered offenses going at it again um defense i thought in the in
00:25:56the first matchup the way fernando came back from that pick six late in the game kind of led that that
00:26:02for that last drive there it's just it's going to be a lot on on defense and how we shut down these
00:26:07high-powered offenses on both sides of the ball um but you know i think texas tech like our i know our
00:26:14ga's i talked to some of them last night they're already on the texas tech on how you know they shut
00:26:19down oregon's offense and how they're going to stop the run game and things like that i think i
00:26:23think it's interesting because uh i think indiana's better again i think they're like oregon only more
00:26:29so um it's not as obvious as alabama the thing that gives me pause and it doesn't give you boy
00:26:36pause it's hard to beat a good team twice yeah true you know that's that's i'm an indiana fan that's
00:26:40that scary sort of not real analysis gremlin that's in the back of my head and fernando said that in his
00:26:47post game yesterday so they're aware of it they know they know the task at hand but i think they'll
00:26:52be ready for it sig will have the boys ready i know i i picked alabama to win yesterday i also
00:26:57picked ole miss and see there um i'm i already bet oregon plus four that's you know i don't
00:27:03obviously yeah
00:27:05listen listen there's going to be non-believers every single week you and brandon will never believe
00:27:11in indiana it's okay i said they're they're one of the best teams it's okay it's all right but with
00:27:17that said i i am going to bet against them until one of us dies it's going to be me and and we're
00:27:23going to find out at a certain point you're already committed you're you're you're you're the meme you're
00:27:28in the mines you're chipping away like you're either going to get exhausted and die in the tunnel
00:27:33or i'm finding the diamond eventually they're going to lose and there's your diamond by the way uh
00:27:38no and it's unfair in indiana because it's an impossible metric like the only way you die in
00:27:42the tunnel is if they win the natty correct by the way uh note to sell for next year first court bet
00:27:49first quarter of the teams that did not have a buy because even alabama covered that yeah it's um
00:27:57so i hit i i lost alabama huge but i hit alabama first quarter i still think i'm not sure how i feel
00:28:04about the sample size that we have because it's still relatively small it is one in seven teams
00:28:11that have the buy but then also like if you look at the majority of those games because i was seeded
00:28:16last year it's like the favorite last year was kind of fake but this year i mean people thought
00:28:20georgia was going to roll over old miss people thought uh ohio state was going to roll over miami
00:28:25and by the way you just watch and you'll be thrilled about this by the way you love this
00:28:30uh this will be the justification for expanding the playoff further i don't care about expansion
00:28:35so that the best teams uh don't have to have buys six also six six teams been that's that's been a
00:28:44done deal forever now 16 has it's all it's you think they're stopping at 16 uh i do actually but
00:28:50but okay well the good news is we have evidence that that's they'll stop here's here's uh the one
00:28:56thing i would say is that i just agree with what i i agree with what dan lanning said move the season
00:29:01up a week starts at week zero play every weekend of december stop the breaks i think the breaks are
00:29:06bad for the viewer as well it's kind of it kind of takes them the wind out of your sails in the season
00:29:11on january 1st it kind of cleans up the entire calendar i'll be interested to see yeah if they do so
00:29:16um okay other side of the docket uh so we have we have indiana oregon and then you have um
00:29:23old miss old miss and uh miami i'm here for the narrative i'm here for the narrative of
00:29:29indiana miami playing in miami that would be so much fun you have mendoza at home his family's
00:29:36there shout out if you're watching uh eddie and evie love you uh i'm just so excited i think that
00:29:41would be amazing and it'd be so much fun so much fun it uh the canes fans all of a sudden
00:29:48would be crawling out of uh crawling out of their holes that they've been hiding for so many years
00:29:55the stadium finally be i think it'd be awesome if it was a quarter full like
00:29:59um who do y'all think okay because i do believe that indiana is the clear overall favorite here
00:30:09out of this final four or the other three teams who do you think is the biggest challenger
00:30:13the one thing quickly on indiana yeah i don't struggle with the fact that they have to be a
00:30:19very good team twice i struggle with the fact that they would be the first team ever to go 16 and 0
00:30:23if they were to win this whole thing which they could easily do uh but their biggest challenger i
00:30:28would have to say miami right just because of that yeah i think oregon i think well i mean yeah
00:30:33i think it's oregon a team they get sorry if they get past oregon in a national championship yes if
00:30:38they're facing one of these two teams almost miami yeah if we were to rank if we were let's rank the
00:30:42final four teams indiana oregon miami and then ole mass yeah i think i think is that are we i think
00:30:48i would put i think i would put miami over oregon just because recency bias but that's just me
00:30:54i mean they do have but i think oregon does as well potentially i was gonna say they do have the
00:31:01the the skill set that you have to have to beat an elite quarterback which is can you get pressure
00:31:04with four and just get pass rush wins but so does oregon look everybody's good and what i love let's
00:31:11just take a second guys as we enter the year and let's give thanks for this 25 26 football season
00:31:17about the college and nfl levels yes because it is subverted expectations and we are going to crown
00:31:24a new champion it's like it's like george kittle said the other day he said you know this super bowl
00:31:29is weird because it feels like anybody's to lose because it's wide open all the old bulwarks against
00:31:34you winning or gone who's going to step up and claim a ring can't wait to watch more wake up
00:31:41barstool next
00:31:41what's happening y'all welcome back to wake up barstool we do it every single friday at this
00:31:49time it's time to once again head into the money corner
00:31:53let's go mega mega buddy's been hot lately i've missed you guys i hope everyone had a fantastic
00:32:01christmas you as well um this is the party yeah you gotta dance big team i like it let's see some
00:32:07moves big team got dancing oh yeah big oh hell yeah that's what we need we need some some some live
00:32:14livin it up boys uh because these picks aren't very lively i'm gonna i'm gonna be honest i'm getting
00:32:19sad we're running out of football and it's okay let's be where our feet are we're good we're
00:32:23happy be happy with what we have and first up we're gonna take the panthers plus three quick
00:32:29and easy uh they're in a better position to take the division more so than tampa bay tampa bay needs
00:32:33the right things to fall uh they've already beaten the bucks uh the bucks are obviously in a free fall
00:32:38they've gone one and seven their last eight and they have not covered a game yet uh obviously baker
00:32:43is playing through some injuries something's wrong and the panthers have the better d uh especially
00:32:49against the past so we're gonna go ahead and take them catching some points uh so panthers plus
00:32:52the three first one on the docket uh second up we're gonna go ahead and take the colts team total
00:32:59under 13 and a half look i understand you like this colts team t bob however well i don't like
00:33:06them anymore i i i always i will they will be forgotten their time i'll always remember the first
00:33:11half of the season and look that's totally that's totally cool but when it comes to betting you got
00:33:15to think about the here and the now and the here and the now is riley leonard okay uh my thing is is
00:33:22the cold second they would love to play spoiler but i think that texans defense locks in i would
00:33:26like to take the spread the texans have the ability and have blown people out but there's a lot of games
00:33:31that have been kept relatively close so don't feel safe with the 10 and a half again i like the defense
00:33:36i think they're gonna lock down the colts give me the team total under i love that team and a half
00:33:41also remember uh what was your call a few weeks ago oh raiders team total under 12 and they scored
00:33:46i thought it was like seven and a half yeah it was plus big money it was under seven and they got
00:33:51zero so what would a parlay in week eight or so have been of panthers to make the playoffs and colts to
00:33:57miss it's a very good call and and i would like to congratulate the carolina panthers on the nfc south
00:34:03title because when the saints beat the falcons they win no matter what buddy i you said that as if i
00:34:10like care one person well speaking of caring let's go back to um since big t is here we decided to go
00:34:17with a teaser uh vikings bills we're gonna take the vikings you can't do that well so is making making
00:34:23money uh vikings minus one and a half and bills on the money line packers have secured the wild card spot
00:34:29so who knows how they're really going to play in this game jj and squad have been on absolute fire
00:34:33winning their last four um so i expect that winning streak to continue bills have the wild card but need
00:34:39this game for seating they're playing the jets i mean one of the worst teams in the league so we're
00:34:44gonna go with that teaser uh i also like jackson dart anytime touchdown that line is not out yet uh
00:34:49they're playing the cowboys and i just think jackson dart's gonna have that old miss energy running
00:34:53veins and he's gonna run one in uh and last but not least we're staying here in chicago uh we're
00:35:01gonna go caleb williams over 240 plus passing yards obviously the bears are coming off a just
00:35:06heartbreaking loss to the niners um and obviously uh i just think that they're gonna go up against
00:35:14the lions who have a subpar pass defense yeah so i think caleb will have a big big bounce back
00:35:20week here i like the over 240 plus passing yards and that is the money corner for this
00:35:27there it is baby i love you guys hopefully we can make some money and come back and uh start college
00:35:32basketball betting soon yeah the the the caleb williams uh line is interesting there because
00:35:37if he hits 270 the bears will finally have a quarterback that is thrown for 4 000 yards
00:35:46something that has eluded them uh for their long and storied history will caleb williams be the one
00:35:53also you know ben johnson's motivated to win this game although for the bears like
00:35:57win or loss the nfc is so topsy-turvy they're gonna have a really tough first round matchup
00:36:03he threw for 330 yards last game i mean it was it was a shootout but i think he comes back and
00:36:08he has he has some real real pressure uh you know the bears historically just have not been in this
00:36:14spot in a long time two seed on the line if they lose this yeah they lose a two seed that that could
00:36:19be really critical i agree yeah you will you want one or two but everything else you're right it is
00:36:23so topsy-turvy uh tyler shucks the best quarterback in the nfl right now more wake up barcel coming up
00:36:28an hour to david pollock next
00:36:30what's happening y'all welcome back to wake up barcel so excited to talk to one of my favorite people in
00:36:40college football you said my own show every now and then one of the all-time greats it's our guy
00:36:47david pollock check out the c-ball get ball podcast kicking ass nose ball better than anyone david what's
00:36:54up man how we doing this morning doing wonderful how you fellas doing uh we're doing great we're
00:36:58doing great i i really like the quarterfinal round uh even the blowouts were interesting to me in a lot
00:37:03of ways because the takeaways that we get from them and then we got the instant classic last night
00:37:07of course if you don't know pollock is one of the all-time georgia greats i mean i remember being
00:37:13recruit in high school go to the weight room you see who the strongest guys in program history were
00:37:17it's just pollock pollock pollock uh how we feeling after last night man tough tough one for the dogs
00:37:23really unreal what old miss did uh it really unreal what old miss has done and just to think about
00:37:29lane kiffin and everything that went down and how it went down and pete golding like who's pete golding
00:37:35like he's gonna come be a head coach oh he's gonna he's gonna debut in the playoffs oh he's gonna go
00:37:41against kirby smart in the second round and more than hold his own and and then and then the story
00:37:47of trinidad chambliss obviously we can get into too i just like if you told old miss fans before the
00:37:52season like austin simmons wouldn't play and they'd have been like all right we sucked we're terrible
00:37:57and this little dude right here that's running all over your screen just continued to make plays from
00:38:02in the pocket outside the pocket um he was unguardable and last year this time he was playing
00:38:08in the division two national championship and that's the guy who's leading old miss to to new
00:38:13territory um so it was an unbelievable it was a roller coaster game and both qbs making plays back
00:38:19and forth but um old miss and hotty toddy a lot to be depressed about over the holidays now they bring
00:38:25in the new year with some cheer i i don't want to stick too long here but i do have one follow-up on
00:38:30georgia um there's been so much hand wringing about bobo for years now and yesterday's offense
00:38:38was i i mean shout out to gunner stockton like the way that he would put his body on the line to make
00:38:46the plays that georgia upgraded was unbelievable some vicious hits but what do you think georgia
00:38:53needs to do offensively to get back to those teams that that stacked a couple national championships just
00:38:59like a few years ago gunner stockton is everything you love about a competitor yeah like you saw that
00:39:04last night he died several times on the field and got revived and still continued to get up and make
00:39:09plays like his toughness is in question yeah watch this hit just like that's unbelievable like there's
00:39:16a third hard line and what you don't see is he runs up gets on the line runs a qb sneak he's pushing
00:39:23his linemen out of the way but like he's got the toughness he's got the playing ability with his
00:39:29feet um you know this is first year as a starter i thought the offense was a little bit limited i
00:39:35think he's got to take some steps to continue to grow and get better in the throw game and the
00:39:39in touch and layering the football but i do think he took some steps in the right direction here's the
00:39:44thing bob when they lost your elbow they lost their best offensive lineman yeah and it was different and
00:39:51and and we got some people on set that know something about all the line that could break
00:39:55it down but when you watch guys in there like it was a different game a lot of swings and misses
00:40:00they weren't blocking as much they weren't as well communicated the the the center who's an all
00:40:05american who's a guy that's going to get drafted one day and play in the nfl is also the the son of
00:40:09the offensive coordinator which really helps knowing and identifying everything so um the offseason for
00:40:15georgia will be interested listen the play calling down the stretch if goal for me and i'm making that
00:40:21decision and i tie and go to overtimes be it do it without you having any clock so i'm throwing a
00:40:27screen to brandt i'm running my qb again i'm making sure the clock's still ticking or i'm kicking a field
00:40:33goal as clock as the clock winds down and i've all missed time so there's plenty of blame to go around
00:40:38for georgia and the way they lost yeah i agree and real quick dave we're gonna uh re-establish the
00:40:43connection and then and then and then we'll hop back in uh yeah i mean i i agree the drew bobo
00:40:47element's huge yeah a center's always big and then you have an all-american center like that's massive
00:40:53and um he brought up something we didn't talk about though which is the uh speaking of mike bobo
00:40:59the pass on third down at the end of the game yeah so let me set the scene so it's third and goal
00:41:05right about a minute left uh they choose to pass so if it's incomplete you're going to leave time
00:41:09the clock almost had no timeouts they had no timeouts i don't mind the choice maybe because
00:41:14they go for the win because it's going to be very hard for miss to score a touchdown with no timeouts
00:41:18but it is the risk versus reward right like like i kind of agree with david said like maybe run
00:41:23stockton he's done that very well maybe wide receiver screen all right we got we got david back
00:41:27here um mikey i asked you you can take it away about uh indiana here yeah uh i wanted to ask two part
00:41:34question what what was your biggest takeaway from the alabama indiana game and then are you a it's
00:41:41hard to beat a good team twice guy you know the rematch with oregon indiana what's your kind of
00:41:47analyst you know or whatever analysis analysis on on that game
00:41:52yeah i've got it too i can relate um you know listen i i thought the easiest game to pick of the
00:42:00weekend was indiana alabama yes um indiana's been the most complete team indiana's physical
00:42:06indiana's what alabama used to be yeah it's like literally they're physical they're disciplined
00:42:11they're tough they're exceptionally well coached nobody's better coached in the country so
00:42:14the rematch is a real thing um oregon last year they got some experience with this don't they
00:42:19like oregon last year runs the table ohio state they beat ohio state in the regular season ohio
00:42:24state beats them beats the mess out of them in the playoffs goes on to win a national championship so
00:42:28how are you not just so impressed with indiana and what they continue to do how they talk after
00:42:34the rose bowl post game like everything about them man like that it screams everything and here's
00:42:39the coolest thing about college football how about last year's four teams we had left this year
00:42:44totally new four teams love it love totally new like we wanted parity we wanted newness we
00:42:50wanted something different like we absolutely got it but like i'm not i'm not worried about
00:42:55indiana like i wasn't worried about alabama i didn't think alabama had the um had any part of
00:43:01the game to go play with indiana just didn't see it yeah and and and if you don't believe him uh you
00:43:06can look up the clips uh he he had this that game nailed to a wall i want to ask you one thing about
00:43:11indiana from the d-line perspective because i look at them and i think they're way more talented too
00:43:16than they get credit for like the o-line's great heisman winner quarterback all the skill positions feel
00:43:20like nfl guys the d-line is the one group to me that seems to be sort of plucky in that they're
00:43:27undersized but they dominate how were they able to dominate when they like they looked small compared
00:43:34to that alabama front and yet it didn't matter they were consistently making plays how do they how do
00:43:38they accomplish that they got one of the best dcs in all of college football period um but they do the
00:43:44best job that i've seen of anyone stunting up front a lot of times when you stunt and when you
00:43:50move you get moved out of the way sometimes with your momentum and so you go a different direction
00:43:55and you give up big plays and linebackers are trying to fill gaps that become extremely wide
00:44:00and it's really hard to do man they don't do that they don't miss with their stunts they're so tight
00:44:05they're so clean they find ways to affect the quarterback everybody in the zone coverage in the back
00:44:11end man all the eyeballs are absolutely dialed in they all move on the football they're just they're
00:44:17so disciplined they're so sound they're so good like across the board safety's triggers so fast
00:44:22and make plays pawns can cover anybody on the outside like it's just a great unit well coached
00:44:28and they know exactly what they're doing and they don't give up those big plays and they make you earn
00:44:33it yep david how would you rank the four quarterbacks we have left because obviously indiana has the
00:44:38heisman trophy winner we talked about chambliss who was unbelievable yesterday i thought dante
00:44:42moore made some great throws he's going to be a first round pick how would you tier the quarterbacks
00:44:47we have left mendoza's going number one um because i i just first of all everything about mendoza you
00:44:54love like there's not there's nobody in this world that can say i i think that dude's terrible like
00:44:58he's an unbelievable human being he's big he's physical he's tough he died on the field too the first
00:45:03game against ohio state remember on the championship game curry hit him and you're like oh my gosh
00:45:07and he gets up finishes the game his toughness his size his ability to scramble make plays stay calm
00:45:14like mendoza's at one trinidad chambliss is at two for me like i don't know what else i need to see
00:45:19throughout the season the running the throwing the dude is the ultimate consummate point guard like
00:45:25it's literally distribute distribute distribute when you talk about rushing him like you can rush him
00:45:30all you want the ball comes out most of the time on time then you'll see him run backwards sometimes
00:45:3635 yards with a corner chasing him and still be able to play make the red zone his ability to run
00:45:41is huge he's just been growing as the season's been going on then i'll go dante moore who's got the
00:45:46highest probably ceiling just smooth cool customer never gets rattled wants to push the ball down the
00:45:53field can make plays that that's what makes oregon unique man they had the run game which is so great
00:45:58but moore can do what he did against texas tech when you're not running the football he can still make
00:46:02plays and then you go down to carson beck now that's not it's not like a big slide at carson
00:46:07beck they're just all really really good but i think all of them bring the element of mobility to
00:46:12the table that carson doesn't bring that second play that i have to play um but the styles in the
00:46:18next matchup are going to be great david i want to focus on the opposite side of the ball with the
00:46:23defense we talked about indiana's defense and how fundamentally sound they are yeah you know
00:46:28miami we haven't talked about what they did the other night against ohio state and that front
00:46:33um obviously you have oregon just absolutely shutting down texas tech what does it say about
00:46:39the the future of the sport and where we're heading with the fact that three of these four teams just
00:46:45have these lights out defenses in the final four well it's it's just changed so much man like we went
00:46:51to a couple years ago like if you didn't get to 30 or 40 like you got no shot and now
00:46:57defenses have done such a great job of being much more versatile like they're not worried about
00:47:03like size as much as they used to be like linebackers used to be 250 right and they're
00:47:08they're adults like in the middle like you got to be physical you got to play this style of football
00:47:12offenses went a bunch of hybrids and went went a bunch of speed and spread and so defense is kind
00:47:19of counteracted with that and now you're seeing defensive linemen who can be smaller linebackers who can
00:47:23be smaller but a lot more speed a lot more versatility guys that can do multiple things
00:47:28and and right now defense and run game i would throw that in there too like if you can't run the
00:47:33football right now you're in trouble yeah i mean you're not going to just drop back against the
00:47:37the defenses because they're so skilled so we kind of went through a period where defense always won
00:47:41championships and then it was like wait a minute okay you better be able to score a lot of points to
00:47:45win and now it's i think we're back to like play great defense and run the football um and good things
00:47:51happen for you and and you were one of the most fearsome pass rushers of your time and i want to
00:47:56zero in on a pass rusher here because uh the performance and look your best players got to
00:48:01show up on this stage if you want to win a championship and for miami that's reuben bain
00:48:05and him and misador were both awesome but like what did you see out of bain the other night his ability to
00:48:11to dip maintain balance uh bend the hoop there i i mean he was an unstoppable force against the
00:48:18buckeyes well you know jason taylor's their pass rush coach i did not know that that's not that's
00:48:24not bad to have a hall of famer as your pass rush coach um but you can see the nuance of it because
00:48:30he's got the quickness he's got the strength he's got the hands but it's the ability like the first
00:48:35play that he makes in the game first i love the way they use them too because they brought him inside
00:48:39it on the guards some which i think was smart to start the game they put bain and mesador on the same
00:48:44side at times so it's not just the ability for them to get after the quarterback like to use speed
00:48:51to use hands to use the double swipe to use a ghost rush like to move them inside at the guard
00:48:56it's also their relentless nature like these dudes hunt yeah like they hunt they play the run they play
00:49:02the screen game like they cover down like they are an absolute problem and it's just bain and
00:49:08mesador's ability to penetrate and listen the others showed up too the others made play as well
00:49:13there's plenty of others in there that are that are helping them out but those two guys man they
00:49:17they have a plan they have a they have ability to win right now but all great pass rushers the best
00:49:23pass rushers they win now but they also win with a counter so you make those big boys drop back and
00:49:29you beat them with speed but then the ability now to beat them inside both of those guys have have
00:49:33that ability and it's it's pretty freaky man david i had a question speaking of pass rushing uh we were
00:49:39watching the texas tech offense line yesterday one thing that stuck out to me is every set that they
00:49:45lost they were opening up their hip like almost immediately and giving the d and a two-way go
00:49:50what was something that you saw in film of an offensive tackle you were like oh i'm gonna i'm
00:49:55gonna get after his ass this game well you're you're always looking for a squealer like you're always
00:50:01looking for somebody that tells the take i'll never forget man i'm watching the colts and it's dwight
00:50:07freeney and they're playing dante culpepper and the vikings yeah i'll never forget i'm watching for
00:50:11hours and freeney and mathis when i put when i put it in slow motion they were moving before the ball
00:50:17moved and i'm like wow what the heck do they have like they have a tell what is it knee twit never
00:50:23forget i'll never forget man um i finally found that a couple hours later when dante culpepper went
00:50:29under center his hands flashed before the ball came so they were out there so freaky fast so literally i was
00:50:36like all right so i did the same exact thing obviously and it helped me have success i still
00:50:41wasn't freeney and mathis so i wasn't that quick to get to the quarterback but i made some plays
00:50:46because of but but that's the most underrated part man like like you just said watching the hands how
00:50:51do they attack you uh what do they do they turn the upfield shoulder are they are they high punchers
00:50:56are they low punchers like there's different stuff that you can continue to get information and piece
00:51:01together if you'll use it and then when you're an athletic freak like bain and mesador like
00:51:05like you obviously have a chance to really really destroy people and do some damage yeah and uh look
00:51:10if you're my age you cannot have david pollock on the show making his debut on the show and not talk
00:51:18about one of the greatest football plays of all time and it's because we keep seeing it right the play
00:51:23you made is seared into my brain and we saw some similar plays on sunday it was chase young with an
00:51:28incredible strip sack right out the corner of the hand touchdown yesterday ue ungulale from oregon
00:51:34doing his best david pollock impression here steal it from the quarterback now he didn't quite end up
00:51:40finding the end zone but guys play the tape do we have do we have the old uh pollock highlight here
00:51:46because i don't know if the young guys have seen it this is one of the coolest like you remember where
00:51:52you were when you were a kid and you saw this all touchdown stolen in the end zone bruh dave what
00:51:59what did that feel like dude that had to be one of the all-time great feelings i love it look at his
00:52:03face right now it tells you everything i wouldn't know i wish i could have the celebration back that's
00:52:08for sure
00:52:09but you you said the right word t bob it's old because there there is no hd
00:52:16um listen sometimes sometimes a blind squirrel can find a nut and that one right there man like
00:52:24if i did that 65 000 more times i ain't making that play i was just trying to bat the ball down
00:52:30as i was coming in and then uh you know ended up just catching it and pinching it to his body but it
00:52:35was a 13 to 7 game that was the only touchdown in the football oh i didn't remember that detail i just
00:52:40remember the play oh that's crazy six game so yeah it was a real barn burner it was not a
00:52:45it was not a great contest for offense that's for sure also uh credit to david because i think his
00:52:51arm was coming forward there uh that went down as an interception pick six let's pick six on the
00:52:58resume dude that ain't it thank god i didn't have to run
00:53:01thank goodness david cannot thank you enough man you're the absolute best guys see ball get ball if
00:53:08you want to be informed of the college football check out the pod thank you so much brother
00:53:11appreciate you dude it's good to be with y'all absolutely there he is david pollock
00:53:15absolute legend great insight into what it takes to succeed as a pass rusher on the highest level
00:53:21uh when we get back let's shift to the nfl we got baldy coming up here in a little bit we'll talk nfl
00:53:26we got smash your pass it's friday it's wub and it's snowing it's great
00:53:32all right guys we got brian baldinger coming up next but first let's shift our attention to the nfl
00:53:45week 18 coming up the playoffs are uh are nearly set here yeah only a couple of spots up for grabs
00:53:53this weekend uh something i've been hammering you know you got the afc north the winner gets in
00:53:59nfc south nfc south could end up being a winner gets in situation depending on saints falcons
00:54:06um but all those teams maybe feel a little irrelevant potentially to kind of the overall
00:54:12super bowl picture but i'm gonna highlight something uh george kittle said which is
00:54:17he was he was asked the other day after the game about kind of the lack of a superpower
00:54:23in the nfl this year and and a lot of times we frame it as well it's uh it's it's anybody's to win
00:54:30and kittle with a little word play said he kind of uses as anybody's to lose and for a second i was
00:54:36like oh doesn't that mean the same thing but then i started thinking about okay you know what i'm
00:54:39actually coming around a bit here to what kittle's saying i i believe my interpretation is
00:54:44basically that with the path being wide open and the normal roadblocks be like a patrick mahomes
00:54:51whoever with the normal roadblocks being out of the way like this is almost every team in the
00:54:58playoffs this is gonna be your best chance to win a super bowl likely your entire career now nobody
00:55:04wants to believe that everybody wants to believe they're gonna go on these legendary runs that are
00:55:08gonna last years and years but no every team in this field really the top three seeds on both sides
00:55:13the bottom three seeds on both sides feel like this is their championship to lose and what it's
00:55:19gonna come down to in a lot of ways is quarterback boys so let's do a little quarterback qb tiers here
00:55:25we're gonna start in the afc and we got three tiers super bowl good not good enough we got bo nix
00:55:33trevor lawrence josh allen drake may justin herbert cj stroud aaron rogers lamar jackson where would we rank
00:55:40these guys let's start with the super bowl tier who out of the afc is good enough to win a super
00:55:44bowl drake may josh allen josh allen i think josh allen's gonna be one with the bullet his playoff
00:55:50stats are unbelievable after that it's it's kind of it's kind of tough there there are talented guys
00:55:58and they're absolutely people who have the talent to win a super bowl but they have not necessarily
00:56:02shown in the postseason i mean it's difficult to unpair these guys from the team like that's fair
00:56:09the broncos can win the super bowl do i think bo nix is one of the three or four best quarterbacks
00:56:13i would best quarterbacks in the nfl that i would mention version no so i like they can win the super
00:56:18per this conversation well at least in my mind but you can interpret it however you want
00:56:23i would say then that he would fall into the good category for this if nix if you're saying if they can
00:56:29win the super bowl but it's more about the team then i would say that that's maybe more of the i think
00:56:33he's great well then i think we only have two super bowl yeah i would agree yeah it is
00:56:39kind of interesting that drake may's already there even over lamar jackson because we're saying
00:56:43oh but lamar jackson struggled in the playoffs but okay but he's also been there but lamar jackson
00:56:47also really banged up this year we don't know what he's going to look like this week yeah i'd
00:56:53probably put a lot of good in there yeah what's the one not good enough is it aaron rogers is it
00:56:58roger yeah i hate to say it but it's it's it's it's rogers i think would be in the not good
00:57:03enough category um cj stroud cj stroud kind of feels like i feel like good yeah i feel like he's
00:57:09in the good category people really like decided he wasn't good last year for some reason and then
00:57:14he's back to being good again like yeah he's a sophomore slump yeah but you just don't think
00:57:20about cj stroud when you think about elite quarterbacks but if you look at if you like
00:57:23repeat what big t said about not being able to like unpair them with the teams then like i think
00:57:27he could win the super bowl yeah like obviously their defense is gonna carry them but i mean
00:57:32trevor lawrence is interesting to me here because should trevor lawrence be in that super bowl tier
00:57:37i gotta be honest with you t bob if there was one person we were elevating from the good to super
00:57:40bowl it would be trevor lawrence i agree the way that he's playing i agree i absolutely think he's
00:57:45playing in a spot right now where he's good enough to win the jaguars a super bowl and kind of
00:57:50contradictory to what we're just talking about the texans you think about the defense for the
00:57:54texans first not cj shroud i think of trevor lawrence first when i think of the jacksonville
00:57:58jaguars and he's been on a tear right now it's kind of funny too because i would almost throw
00:58:02herbert in there but the oh my it's just so bad yeah um all right now let's look at the nfc side
00:58:09of the equation uh we got sam darnold kyle williams yellow hurts baker mayfield uh bryce young matt
00:58:15stafford jordan love brock purdy uh number one with the i'm still going i'm still going hurts in my
00:58:21super bowl tier because he's done it obviously stafford stafford stafford done it absolutely
00:58:26i would like to put i would like to put baker up there just because of how well he can play but
00:58:32it's i don't i think he'd be falling i think he's too injured right now i think he's too injured right
00:58:37now i think um if i was gonna bump somebody up i think it would be brock purdy actually kate said
00:58:44something very interesting about darnold i also yeah i i'm still brock purdy just i he's a guy who
00:58:51doesn't make sense he should not be playing this good but he is the system around him is phenomenal
00:58:58he elevates the the players around him yeah uh i just yeah i i don't know i think with sam
00:59:04maybe it's the maybe it's the salary i'm thinking of i don't know if he's like a 55 million dollar
00:59:08quarterback however much he's been getting paid but he's very very good i think with sam darnell i mean
00:59:12that he's good enough but he does make mistakes in the biggest game but the seahawks are still good
00:59:16enough around him to to kind of make up for those mistakes then he can get you through so i'd go
00:59:21good on there's just something about sam darnell that just doesn't do it for me like every it's
00:59:25just like he doesn't have that spark i guess i don't know i just every time i hear his name or
00:59:30watch him play i'm just like oh he doesn't feel terribly threatening now i'm gonna be interested
00:59:33to see if the unreal crazy comeback win the other night like does that spark something did that unlock
00:59:40something out of him um yeah who would you say out of the nfc would fall into the not good enough
00:59:45category because i'd put caleb williams in good yeah uh bryce young with too inconsistent would be
00:59:50not good enough one person jordan love he has streaks of like where he could potentially be elite but
00:59:58then he just kind of falls back down to good yeah no i agree bryce young's been like the most up and
01:00:03down the panthers they're one of the most up and down teams earlier jordan love last one where do you feel
01:00:07guys uh good okay okay i think eventually he could be a quarterback in the super bowl tier but
01:00:16considering everything again it's it's the team around him i i don't know if the team around him
01:00:21is good enough right now to put him in that upper echelon well you know we're kicking this around you know
01:00:27who we should really be asking any question concerning the nfl yes brian baldinger that's right
01:00:33we got baldy coming up next baldy breakdowns the best social media accounts to follow so don't go
01:00:40anywhere more wake up barstool on the other side of the break
01:00:43what's happening guys welcome back let's dive right in we got brian baldinger baldy's breakdowns
01:00:55uh the absolute best you see the logo on the shirt on the hat if you ain't watching baldy
01:01:00you're not educating yourself on the game the man watches every snap of football on this beautiful
01:01:07earth in which we have it and uh well with that let's start with a quick college question we're
01:01:12in the nfl quarterfinals just wrapping up exciting top four here uh baldy what was your kind of main
01:01:18takeaway that that from from watching these games the last couple of days uh i love i love these college
01:01:25coaches i you know obviously signetti is signetti but mario cristobal i got to know him this year
01:01:31went down their practices at university of miami i i challenge anybody that plays football at any level
01:01:37to think that nobody could practice harder than what mario cristobal does really refreshing
01:01:42to see the the pace and the amount of contact that they practice with and how physical they are and
01:01:49showed up obviously against ohio state but uh i was just impressed by the overall coaching
01:01:54and how they get these players to to play as physical and hard as they do that was that georgia
01:02:01old miss game that was one for the ages last night that that was a great football game yeah and and it
01:02:07really seems like uh the trenches are are deciding these as as it should be in a lot of ways and as it
01:02:13you know is a lot of time in football um all right let's get to the nfl uh there's there's you know
01:02:20final week of the season a lot up for grabs i want to start in the nfc west because although you have
01:02:27a couple of games or teams are going to be fighting for entry to the playoffs i actually think the stakes
01:02:32in niner seahawks are the highest of any game this weekend with first round by with a home field
01:02:38advantage on the line division title and it's two of the best if not the best teams in the nfl
01:02:45what are your keys to seahawks niners and and how will be decided uh a couple things i mean i agree
01:02:51with you all the way around i mean to get the first round by is huge uh i i live in philly and you know
01:02:57they got a first round by last year and to get a week's rest you know and then you know the whole
01:03:01thing it really worked out great for them but i guess maybe detroit got the first round by but
01:03:06regardless they got a week of rest they didn't play week 18 it's a huge deal huge deal you get
01:03:11the home playoff games um that's an advantage but i think the key in this game honestly is two things
01:03:17one uh can seattle's defense rattle control uh christian mccaffrey the offense goes through
01:03:24christian mccaffrey can they limit him the first time they played which was four months ago uh they
01:03:29held him to 69 yards on 23 rushes so you know like three less than three yards they uh carry
01:03:35so that was that was huge and then i think uh what can can sam darnold take care of the football
01:03:41can he play a clean game yeah because that's in question i saw him last week against carolina
01:03:46and in that game he threw an interception in the end zone and he had the ball stripped out of his
01:03:51hands so there was two turnovers on his part the defense is good enough to overcome it against
01:03:56carolina but if he does that two times against san francisco i don't think that he's going to be good
01:04:00enough to overcome well baldy first of all hi i'm connor oh yeah it's connor griffin yeah
01:04:06big time eagles fan hello connor hello uh what's the s on the shirt stand for it's penn state he's
01:04:12also a big penn state guy yeah penn state philly guy um okay i i gotta ask about the eagles i already
01:04:18warned them in the break selfishly i gotta ask eagles are arresting their starters this week there
01:04:24are people freaking out because this offense pretty much the entire season hasn't fully
01:04:28looked right what have you seen from the eagles on tape that's concerning and do you think it's
01:04:33something that they could just flip on a switch in the playoffs and fix or you know well what is it
01:04:37well i was in the barn at lane johnson's house on monday and i thought the starters were going to play
01:04:43and then by tuesday um you know they decided to rest a lot of the starters yeah like they did last year
01:04:50and it's it's the right move i i would take rest over trying to get another week and trying to figure
01:04:56this offense out but i think the biggest problem honestly is the offensive line and just get
01:05:01movement at the point of attack and look i mean right now uh you know landon dickerson these guys
01:05:07are beat up really been landon's been beat up since his since training camp when he had a knee scoped
01:05:12and so get him a week rest right now i think that could be the best thing they'll play either green
01:05:18bay los angeles or san francisco the following week at home i don't know if that'll be a you know
01:05:23saturday or sunday game whatever but uh i think the week's rest is going to help them if they get
01:05:28movement at the point of attack saquon can still he can still kill you he can still put up 100 on you
01:05:34real quick he's done it a couple times this year when they did play well up front and then when he
01:05:39plays well the quarterback plays well and so i don't have any questions about the defense the defense is
01:05:44as good as anybody maybe houston could is a little bit better right now but they're as good as anybody in
01:05:50the postseason and they proved last year that defense wins these championships when they shut
01:05:55the the chiefs out for the first three quarters of that super bowl baldy of the teams that aren't in
01:06:00the playoffs yet so bucks panthers steelers ravens which of those teams do you think has the best chance
01:06:07to win a game or maybe go on a run further than that i think baltimore baltimore because well you know
01:06:14we might get a really healthy lamar jackson uh i i remember just spending time with him
01:06:19in the preseason this year at training camp and you know this stigma about can't win playoff games
01:06:25and what his record is it bothers him more than anything else and so he's going to have a chance
01:06:30right here to come back obviously they got to beat pittsburgh in pittsburgh this weekend um you
01:06:36know sunday night finish this whole season off and and then derrick henry i mean you put patrick
01:06:41card and derrick henry the eye formation yeah give me any defense in the history of mankind like
01:06:47they're gonna have trouble stopping that combination and so the steelers are gonna have their hands full
01:06:51i think that's a team that could be dangerous in the postseason i know they didn't play well down
01:06:55the stretch and i know there's rumbles about lamar and the coach and all that stuff that all goes away
01:07:01when you win it all goes away and so they need to take care of business but if they win and they win
01:07:06that division they get a home playoff game i think they'd be a dangerous team baldy i've been
01:07:11watching your breakdowns for as long as i remember one day i want to break down offensive line film
01:07:17with you and just fully nerd out can can he can he be the first baldy's breakdown the intern i'll be
01:07:23i'll just be like a little nerd on the side let me let me just say this let me ask you this like
01:07:28what's your sleep cycle like can you go 15 hours do you need like a lot of red bulls no i'm good i
01:07:34usually just run off pure adrenaline and energy just adrenaline okay because i mean that's you
01:07:39know that's that's sunday night deep into the night after the games whatever game i do then
01:07:44that's all day monday and all day tuesday then we come up for air on wednesday and then we dive
01:07:48back in you know thursday night and get going you might be able to hang with that adrenaline
01:07:54for a day but can you do that and sustain it for 18 straight weeks i don't know you're a different
01:08:01breed you are a different breed he just wants to do a little he just wants a week he just wants
01:08:05maybe even a day i can't bother i can't bother uh what do you what i mean do you find time to eat
01:08:13and drink how much coffee are you consuming how do you keep it going yeah yeah you look like i work
01:08:18out at nfl films and um emat is the chef down there so they know they make my breakfast for me every
01:08:24morning and then when i come down for lunch they pack this lunch whatever time i think it closes at
01:08:30two o'clock sometimes i can't get there too but they they store it for me like in this oven and so
01:08:36then you know they just have and i just eat meat so they just have all this meat for me in some form
01:08:41or another i'm a carnivore so you know when you're a carnivore you just eat meat like honestly it's like
01:08:47a tiger you know it's just time to go to work it's time to eat so um they he met like he's my mvp
01:08:55and they just feed me like that that's so awesome i don't i don't want to give any free away um any
01:09:01ideas for free here but i will say kind of like what coach gruden did to find his assistant i think
01:09:06you could make some great content have like 20 guys that have to go through like your rigorous cycle
01:09:11you they have to break down film with you all the time and you know you eliminate one once a week
01:09:16tell them to get out of there last man standing gets to be your right hand man just throwing it out
01:09:20there i would watch it it would be awesome the disciples yeah uh baldy what about this when you
01:09:28look at the uh when you look at all the teams entering the playoffs so much of the nfl can be
01:09:34decided by who's peaking at the right time is there anybody jumping off a film that you would throw your
01:09:39weight behind in terms of they're carrying a lot of momentum into the final portion here no the texas
01:09:44have won seven in a row you know jacksville's won six in a row sometimes that stuff can be overrated
01:09:49you think about detroit last year they were 15 and two and they looked unbeatable you know and
01:09:56washington went in there and put up 45 points on and at home you know so sometimes it could be a
01:10:01little overrated but honestly right now the way houston's playing if they score 20 points i think
01:10:08they're 15 and one this year when they score 20 you know they would be if they scored 20 a couple games
01:10:13they couldn't score it the offense was struggling early in the season but if they put up 20 points right
01:10:17now i don't know if anybody can beat them the way that defense is playing i mean will anderson is
01:10:22is he's a nice guy so i hear but he's the most violent player in this league and he sort of sets
01:10:29the tone for daniel hunter and daryl stingley and lassiter and petrie and like the whole gang
01:10:35like they just they they're just playing defense at a different level right now that looks like a team
01:10:41right now that might be really hard to beat like that momentum that they have um other teams have
01:10:46momentum right now like i said jacksonville has it other teams have it but i don't know that anybody
01:10:52looks more dangerous to me because defensively you know these playoff games are played differently and
01:10:58if you're not you know if you're not scoring points on some of these possessions like all of a sudden
01:11:04you start to panic a little bit you get out of what you really want to do and you just play right
01:11:08into their hands and that's what's been going on in this league right now hey baldy obviously
01:11:12steelers are going to be without dk metcalf this week what do they have to do to hang with
01:11:19the ravens and then you know what are they going to do to beat them well you know what miles garrett
01:11:24said last week wasn't wrong when he said they were the steelers were more concerned with stopping him
01:11:28from getting the sack record yeah than winning the game it's it's not wrong if you go down to that last
01:11:34stretch of plays where they threw to a marquez valdez scantling and they were all for three against
01:11:39denzel ward with a chance to tie it up i mean their leading receiver is kenneth gainwell and
01:11:44he's over there chipping on miles garrett you know like that ball and in the last play i'm not
01:11:50here to throw shade at aaron rogers but you know if aaron had looked over to his left and seen
01:11:57kenneth gainwell nobody covered him he would have walked into the end zone like when they played
01:12:01baldebore week 14 the first play of the game aaron rogers threw a 52 yard bomb to dk metcalf yeah and
01:12:08that kind of got the thing started they need explosive plays they're just not good enough
01:12:13uh honestly with with everything with with the players that they have they're not good enough just to
01:12:19go 12 plays you know 70 yards and score on any sort of consistent basis they need the explosive
01:12:26plays when they get them they look like a pretty good offense and when they don't get them they look
01:12:30like they did last week against cleveland yeah so baldy one of the best parts about working in this
01:12:35office is you just have a bunch of sports fans a bunch of football fans um and what that leads to
01:12:40is a lot of in-office arguments and every day me and my producer jeremy sitting next to each other
01:12:48uh i yell at him about tyler shuck he continues to doubt him not a franchise quarterback but he's not
01:12:55watching the games okay you watch everything what's your evaluation of the rookie quarterback down there
01:13:00in new orleans sneaky good falcon saints team coming up again team coming up this week and a couple of
01:13:05hot nfc south teams baldy tell me about shuck so i've been doing some breakdowns on them since the
01:13:12miami game they lost to miami but they played really well and i woke up um the next weekend to an
01:13:20executive of the saints sending me a text and he's like we're back we're in baldy's breakdowns we're back
01:13:26that's how they determined that they're back you know he's won four in a row now you can you can
01:13:31debate the competition all that kind of stuff but you watch that guy just now i understand chris
01:13:36alave unfortunately he's not yeah blood clots in the lungs blood clots i mean that sounds serious
01:13:42to me like that would scare me to death if that ever happened to me but so let's let's you know
01:13:47prayers out to alave because he's had five touchdown catches the last five games yeah and he looks like
01:13:53you know he looks like a lobby and that's what great quarterbacks do and i'm not going to call
01:13:59him great yet but he's really good he's you know it's interesting i went to i was in metairie this
01:14:04summer i went to the saints camp it was a sunday practice and kellen morgan goes baldy you came to
01:14:10the right day i go why is that coach he goes we got 128 play scrimmage like what it's what it's like
01:14:17to play two games back to back i go okay so i stood behind him for 128 plays spencer rattler
01:14:22tyler shuck i came away saying tyler shucks their guy because it was a competition i go
01:14:28then tyler shucks their guy and then he didn't start for whatever reason but when you watch that
01:14:33guy throw football you see his size he's six foot five he's 225 30 pounds he can really run
01:14:40you know when he has to uh he's got everything it takes now people don't aren't excited that he's 25
01:14:4526 years old i don't care like that guy can throw a football he can design he can um he knows how to
01:14:52look at a defense and really go through progressions like he's a really smart player it helps that you're
01:14:58in college for seven years and you learned all this stuff and all these different programs but i i have
01:15:03i am convinced they have their quarterback for the future they've won four in a row atlanta's won
01:15:08three in a row this game could be a lot of fun um saints defense everybody's played better since
01:15:15shuck came in there right now and he started playing like that uh okay what what about this
01:15:20baldy we talked to the afc team peaking at the right time you highlight the texans when you look
01:15:26at the nfc there's also kind of a weird setup where your top three seeds are kind of new to the party in
01:15:32some ways and then the bottom three seeds feel like you're kind of you know you're you're stall
01:15:37warts uh who's maybe your favorite out of that side of the conference well i mean seattle is really
01:15:44good they're just a really good team yeah but chicago that's one of the teams we're talking about
01:15:48i mean the bears here um the way that they can run the ball the the the way that they take the ball
01:15:54away uh those things you know you're looking at carolina they were awful last week just dreadful
01:16:00but they have had dreadful games so you will see and them in tampa here uh tomorrow afternoon
01:16:06we'll see we'll see what happens uh carolina's defense you know derrick brown is a very underrated
01:16:11player he's as good a defensive tackle as there is in football almost had an interception last week
01:16:16um you know if they win the game uh i don't think they're going to scare anybody they're going to get
01:16:21a home playoff game but uh bryce young is going to have to play a whole lot better than he played
01:16:25last week i like chicago that that three that you're talking about wow just because the commitment
01:16:30to the run the way that they take the ball away consistently lead the league in takeaways and then
01:16:35the x factor is ben johnson and his ability to just subtly design offenses it's like it's like this
01:16:43good play callers what they do is they establish a pattern pattern pattern pattern and then the defenses
01:16:50pattern read that and then the good coordinators they go pattern pattern break the pattern big play
01:16:56like he's a master at doing that and it's like he knows where you're going to be based on what they
01:17:04have done and what they have they have shown you to do and then he counters it and that's what
01:17:09kyle does that's what you know shannon i mean these guys know how to do that but but ben does it in
01:17:15really subtle different ways they ran for 280 yards against the eagles on black friday and nobody
01:17:21should be able to do that and they did it and they made it look pretty easy so um they they were
01:17:27going to get roma dunze back and i think that's caleb's favorite target they could be a fun team
01:17:32to watch in the postseason brian baldinger baldy's breakdowns at baldy nfl uh i mean nobody knows more
01:17:37baldy can't thank you enough for joining us this friday man happy new year hope you had a great christmas

01:19:17absolutely i've never had these you couldn't is this a southern thing the black eyed peas and the
01:19:21collard greens yeah i think i think up north they do something different but down south it's

01:20:34that chili i did i did all right what's next
01:20:37bruschetta smash i love bruschetta i'm gonna go i'm actually gonna go pass here not not because
01:20:46i dislike it i'm i'm just very neutral on it this is a tomato centric dish but you have the
01:20:52balsamic vinegar yeah like usually like a piece of fresh mozz on there that's a big god that does
01:20:57sound really good i mean yeah yeah i'll pass yeah i guess we just don't need enough bruschetta because
01:21:03you're right like balsamic vinegar is just just think about being like the sun like after a pool
01:21:08day and someone just comes out with a plate of bruschetta and a little lemonade or something on
01:21:13the side after a long day at the pool that that's the the game here you know this or doritos
01:21:21that actually that would be a good that should be the new that's a very that's a very good game
01:21:26all right what's next spinach artichoke tip with the doritos oh yeah smash so this is this is i've
01:21:32never heard of this in my life never had it is one of my favorite things in the entire world i love

01:21:47i've tried recently the mexican street corn dip didn't like it what i like it look what i didn't
01:21:52like the dip it tasted like the taco bell quesadilla sauce but just quesadilla sauce what's so bad
01:21:56about that okay it's like i drink it what's wrong with that smash the smoked fish i'm smashing for

01:22:43backups are playing for the eagles i think he's leading this offense to a win a resounding one over
01:22:47washington big t is this going down today yeah this afternoon navy minus seven and a half against
01:22:53cincinnati i forget what bowl game that is it might be armed forces bullet no no soresby for
