Some might argue that poutine, smoked meat or bagels are Montreal’s true claim to fame but it seems we’ve all forgotten about one dish that hits every. single. time. Chicken. Rotisserie chicken is just as much a staple across the 514 — with countless family-run spots and chains galore that are found all throughout Quebec. So, when it came down to narrowing down the best of the best, only two restaurants came to mind for MTL Blog’s Mike Chaar: St-Hubert BBQ and Ma Poule Mouillée. Find out which one came out on top!

00:00I like it creamy I don't prefer it traditional do you the spice blend that
00:05they use it's just an explosion in your mouth you can't go wrong with
00:11Montrex hey Montreal Mike Schar from MTL blog coming at you with another food
00:16battle video this time around rotisserie chicken I'm heading on over to
00:21Mapun Mouillet right now which is regarded as one of the best spots here
00:24in the city for rotisserie chicken their menu is easily topped here but I'm
00:29pinning against none other than Quebec's very own chain restaurant Saint-Hubert
00:33barbecue chances are if you grew up in Quebec you grew up eating Saint-Hubert
00:39and you can never go wrong all right so how is this gonna work well I'll be
00:44ordering the same dish from each restaurant chicken french fries and
00:47salad and testing out the cost presentation and flavor of both to see
00:51which one comes out on top let's go find out
00:55how are you very good thank you can I grab one of the Louie Sears foods yes non-spicy foods
01:10okay so I ordered the Louie Sears and that comes with half the chicken serving
01:24the french fries and salad it looks so good such a huge portion 18 bucks after
01:30tax can't go wrong I'm also sat right beside where they cook the chickens and
01:34it's so hot but I'm pushing through and I'm doing it you know we're gonna have
01:39the chicken first so let's give it a taste
01:41the chicken is so good I've been to my family so many times before but when you come back it's as if you're eating it for the
01:58first time again the flavor the succulent chicken can't go wrong I'm gonna give
02:04the french fries to try next I already know I'm gonna like them because it's my
02:08favorite cut of fries and they're one of my favorites to begin with so you can't go wrong with french fries
02:14you can't go wrong with french fries honestly she speaks facts I'm gonna give the salad a try
02:22sounds always sort of like a compliment to the meal and I never really hold it to
02:26that high of a regard but the salad legit looks pretty good there's tomatoes there's
02:30red onions arugula and a good garden sort of like mix so and the dressing looks
02:36really good too
02:42and there's a bomb salad
02:45every time every time all right so I just got done with my
02:50so delicious can't go wrong but I got a rubric to follow I gotta give it a score so
02:57when it comes to cost 18 bucks huge portion I still got some for dinner um so five on five
03:03can't go wrong there when it comes to the flavor every single bite was a burst of flavor I still
03:08don't know what they use what spice blend but it's so good there's not one thing that I could think of
03:13that I did not enjoy about that meal also a five on five and as for presentation a little bit messy
03:18so a three on five for that but ma poule mouillet is one of those spots where it's like the food and its
03:22taste sort of speaks for itself I'm a little I'm a little worried for Saint-Hubert to be perfectly
03:26honest but we still have to give everyone a fair chance I'll be heading to Saint-Hubert tomorrow to try
03:32it out and see how it compares to ma poule mouillet's chicken all right I am back day two of rotisserie chicken
03:39battle here in Montreal I am heading on over to Saint-Hubert barbecue to try out their chicken dish to see how it
03:45comes up against ma poule mouillet's chicken again like I said yesterday I'm a little bit worried for
03:51Saint-Hubert because yesterday's meal was just freaking so good um but we're giving it a chance
03:57we're gonna try out chicken fries their coleslaw to see how it measures up side note it is very very
04:03cold today um so brownie points for your your mans over here for going out and braving the Montreal
04:09winter to let y'all know what chicken is better so can I get can I get a few snaps just just a few
04:15it looks really good um so you have creamy coleslaw I like it creamy I don't prefer
04:44traditional do you french fries comes with a piece of bread and of course I got an entire chicken
04:50with barbecue sauce and a drink let's eat
04:54okay so the chicken is actually really good um super juicy succulent flavorful especially with the
05:13barbecue sauce okay so french fries are also really good really crispy more generic um than the hand cut
05:31style fries that I usually like but you can't really go wrong with these um coleslaw next
05:37so the coleslaw is bomb um I prefer coleslaw than like something like a mixed like garden salad with
05:52a meal like this only because the crunch of the cabbage in the coleslaw just is sort of the texture
05:57I'm sort of looking for um so yeah I don't I I have a lot to think about I really do um yeah I'm
06:05gonna finish this up and then we're gonna do our final verdict all right so I've had time to think
06:09if we take into consideration the criteria cost flavor and presentation I would say when it comes
06:15to cost for Saint-Hubert not bad at all but still more expensive than my poule mouillée so I'm giving
06:20them score on five when it comes to flavor yo it was pretty bomb um especially with the barbecue sauce
06:27the chicken was very succulent very juicy lots of flavor so I'm giving that a solid score on five
06:32and then when it comes to presentation very neat very organized I love when everything is sort of
06:37separate so definitely a solid score on five on that as well okay it's the very next day I have had
06:44time to thaw out from the cold I've had time to eat my mapu mouillée leftovers y'all it's verdict time
06:51so the winner of this food battle is mapu mouillée with a total score of 13 out of 15
06:59whereas Saint-Hubert came in with a 12 out of 15 so mapu mouillée only won by the skin of its teeth
07:04or the chicken skin of its teeth um but honestly it all came down to the chicken's flavor mapu mouillée
07:11the Portuguese chicken the spice blend that they use it's just an explosion in your mouth every time
07:17you have it um and it could stand alone you don't really need a side you don't need anything to
07:21accompany the meal the mapu mouillée chicken is just fire on its own whereas Saint-Hubert the chicken is
07:28good great even don't get me wrong um but you need a little barbecue sauce sometimes you need a little
07:33ketchup um in order to make it perfect so it really comes down to whatever secret mapu mouillée has
07:39on that chicken and it did them justice but there is only one mapu mouillée here in Montreal
07:45yes only one located here in the plateau so if you can't get your hands on mapu mouillée Saint-Hubert
07:50is obviously your next best bet for rotisserie chicken you honestly can't go wrong thank you
07:55all so much for watching this food battle definitely check us out on our next one
