Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has filed an appeal against the High Court ruling that dismissed his bid to serve the remainder of his SRC International prison sentence under house arrest.

His lawyer, Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee, confirmed that the appeal was filed on Dec 24.

00:00Datuk Seri Najib Razak has filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal against his conviction
00:07and sentence in the RM2.28 billion, one Malaysia Development Berhad case.
00:14His lawyer, Mohamed Farhan Mohamed Shafi confirmed that the notice was filed Monday night.
00:19On December 26, the Kuala Lumpur High Court found Najib guilty of four power abuse charges
00:25and 21 money laundering charges involving RM2.28 billion linked to one MDB funds.
00:33The former Prime Minister was sentenced to 15 years in jail and fined a total of RM11.4
00:38billion, with a default sentence of 40 years jail for the power abuse charges.
00:45While no fine was imposed for the money laundering charges, the Court ordered him to pay a recoverable
00:50sum of RM2.081 billion, in default of 270 months jail, for those charges.
00:57Najib was charged with four counts of using his position to obtain RM2.28 billion in gratification
01:03from one MDB funds and 21 counts of money laundering involving the same amount.
01:09Recently, on December 24, Najib also filed an appeal against the High Court's dismissal
01:15of his judicial review in the addendum case, which he claimed would have allowed him to
01:20serve his sentence under house arrest.
01:23The Court rejected the judicial review, ruling it invalid and unenforceable as it was issued
01:28outside the Constitutional Framework.
